  1. Just serviced my 2.0tdi superb. 155000 miles. Did oil and oil filter, air filter and pollen filter. Parts cost me 75 quid for Castrol oil and Bosch filters, took an hour and a half. Just looked up how much that would cost at a local garage and it's 280 quid, they do things like check battery health and other bits and bobs. But that's mental. I'm not mechanic but it was very simple really.
  2. All 245s have the VAQ. FL 230s do not have it. The PFL 230 did have it, as the PFL was split 220/230 rather than the FL 230/245 - although the PFL230 came quite late. Looking at a 230 vs a 245, the latter has the LSD, larger brakes and a bit more power. IMO, it's worth it for the LSD alone. I debated a Mk4 vs a Mk3.5 for a long time. I liked the Mk4 interior and Matrix headlights, but preferred the look oif the Mk3.5 and how it felt to drive. Ultimately, I couldn't stand the touch buttons, so went for the latest model 3.5 (Jan 2020) I could find. I don't regret it.
  3. Here is a picture of a pollen filter. 7,000 miles after it was changed by a main dealer. Looks like the original to me - at this point 26K miles and three years. It was absolutely rammed with silver birch seeds - yet the local trees hadn't cast seed in the 7K miles / 8 months since the service. I know what I think.......
  4. Hi , My driving license is up for renewal next year and it's really easy to remove the oldies from the road ( I am 75 ) thus removing the car numbers. I fully support a fair driver assessment by a qualified accessor but no based on age.If you are caught driving in a reckless manor twice in two years your driving by standard should be apprised but regardless of age. I personally believe that we should employ a zero alcohol driving limit for drivers reaching retirement and a mobility standard again should be set. I witnessed yesterday an old couple having great trouble entertaining a high performance sports and I believe the driver was not in real control when driving off. I live in a small town that had in realty no buses and a train service that again has a cancellation level that is totally unacceptable. Driving standards should be assessed regardless of age.

Hello, I'm Numan, I'm new here. I've been following the forum before. I have a 2023 1.5 Octavia and I'm very happy with it. Being here gives me confidence. By the way, I'm joining from Türkiye.
  6. Thumbs up from me. 👍 But did you do everything else like checking all the suspension joints and bushes individually with a good light and a bar where necessary? CV boots checked and listen out for any clicking on full lock on the road? Tyres and pressures? A good look round all the coil springs for fractures and check that the top suspension mountings turn smoothly? Did you check both pistons in the rear wheel cylinders were free (drums obv) and check the function of the handbrake? Spin up all wheel bearings? All the lights (including headlamp motors) for correct function plus washers and wipers? Oil all hinges and check locks? Look out for corrosion on body, brake and fuel pipes? Check boot for spare tyre if applicable and corrosion. Seat belts not loose, frayed and working correctly? Diagnostic check? Good road test? No gearbox, suspension or engine noises? Might have missed a few things.. Tongue in cheek post of course 🤪 but there is a lot more than just changing oil and filters. Plus the garages have to pay to dispose of all contaminated commercial waste. They used to have to have 9 separate chargeable bins when I was in the trade. Lots of H&S and insurances too.
  7. Still very happy with mine. Smooth, plenty powerful with great fuel economy (not an EV fan), stylish, well finished and equipped, also roomy (for a smallish/med wagon). All modern cars/brands laden with electronics have the odd hiccup, it's not unique to Škoda. Maybe I'm lucky, but mine has been totally reliable and everything works so nothing has ever ruffled my feathers. Before I bought the car new I was fully aware of the safety systems it came with, so I harbour no negativity toward them and we get along just fine.

Looks something like this so its nice & discrete. The cover even closes over the top of it.
  9. First visit in ages to Attenborough Nature reserve this morning. Spotted what I thought might be a Lapwing in the far distance? Along with a few others
  10. Thanks to both @travs and @LeGrumpy I will not observe the very rich site with a more ... dedicated eye. I am freeing up some resources and Superb deserves a bit of pampering ... 🥰
  11. I was lucky when I bought the Karoq. I sold my previous yetiformore than I had paid for it, I only had to find 6 grand to put along with it for the Karoq. I had 4 grand saved up which was going to be a new shower room and won 5 grand one raffle so bought theeKaroq with no loan. In the 2 and a half years since I've managed to get enough so my new shower room is now fitted too. The karoq has only cost me twice in the region of £250 for a service and mot and two tyres. If that continues for another three years or so I may be able to get a newer car then.
  12. Another unfortunate example of things that servicing agents think they can get away with.
  13. Actually I'm 62 (nearly 63) and funnily enough I also currently have Karoq dsg which is 6.5 years old, lol. Fantastic cars, but with a whine from the gearbox (expensive!!!) and one or two other issues, I cant afford to take the gamble with the amount of travelling I will be doing. But being 62, disabled, technically self employed in a rented house I havn't got a hope in hell of getting a loan to buy a newer car
  14. The symbol top left would appear to indicate screen brightness control?
  15. It's not the stuff that smells really odd and not nice is it?
  16. I get the higher rate on personal care on ADP, and the lowerrate of motability so I don't qualify for a car. Not that I would take it at the moment anyway. I can hardly walk to the end of the street and I live in number 3 so without measuring it would be about 20 meters max. I'm 62 and have been like this for 17 years. I would rather have my health back and be able to still be working and be providing for myself than having to put up with constant severe pain physically that nothing can be done about. My condition cost me my marriage and worse my selfrespect having to ask for help for everything. Yet I am lucky because I own my home, don't drink or smoke so I can afford to own my own car. Having done the sums often I am better having my karoq dsgwhich is 7 years old and absolutely perfect for me than spending a few grand to get a pos corsa or the likes that would not suit me. I would swap positions with anyone who has their health and happily pay my taxes, as I did before I became unfit. And I hate the word "benefits" to describe what I relieve. I paid national insurance and now am claiming off that insurance. Benefits to me insinuates that I'm a lazy git that never worked a day in my life and I've got everything for nothing.
  17. I've no issues with a fair retest at any age. TBH why not retest every 10yr, doesn't need to be the full thing just a brief drive around with a qualified person to check you're safe and a few questions to cehck you're not mental. Drink drive limit can never be 0 because naturally your body produces a little bit, some food contain a tiny amount (apples for example) and testing below a certain level is unreliable. TBH the current levels are ok I think. People who are a danger are way over that or drug driving which is likely a bigger problem these days
  18. I've owned mine for 18 months and struggle to recall any issues with the infotainment- maybe once I had to turn it off and on once when an update got stuck, but nothing more.
  19. Thank you, I know how it works. The numbers are staggering. Either we are a VERY sick nation or we are overly generous and tens of thousands know how to game the system. No wonder the country has no money.
  20. Plus there's that feeling of satisfaction that you've tackled it yourself with a tidy saving of over £200
  21. Press the right hand roller button on the steering wheel to answer an incoming call.
  22. Agree - perfectly reputable company as far as I’be ever known 👍🏼

  24. One in five new cars is now paid for by the taxpayer, bought through Motability. Literally unbelievable.
  25. I’m a bit mixed on this personally. Carbon collective is a well respected company and they have some decent products (generally companies can be hit and miss depending on who their chemist is, or what they buy from which chemical company - there is a some relabelling going on in the industry). But I have a couple of reservations with the claims on this page: Anyway who starts quoting numbers from the Mohs scale isn’t a real measure of it. Ceramic coatings have strong solvents which break the bonds of the clearcoat and mix in with the softened layers; crosslinking with itself within the clearcoat. This is what gives it its longevity. Claiming this is just as good on bare metal and painted finished as well as clearcoat. With no clearcoat I don’t see how it can bond as well and claim the same longevity. I’ve had chemical burn using a tar remover (strong solvent) on a wheel (clearcoated wheels like those from the factory are fine) to find it’s been reconditioned with a cheaper rattle can finish (you get white etched marks) and there’s a good chance that the solvents in this would do the same which would look awful and would be too late. Those marks need to be polished off with compound so claiming this is good for painted finishes. Of course happy to be corrected on any of this if the chemistry and research has moved on. In a nutshell, on clearcoated wheels like those from the factory will be fine and benefit from this as much as pretty much any other respected ceramic coating. As usual make sure they’re super clean and decontaminated from, brake dust, iron fallout and tar remover (get rid of any leftover glue from wheel weights) processes to make sure they look best and the coating has the best chance of bonding.
  26. Yes, that's sensible. Let me rephrase, how do you reject a call when the screen is full of reversing camera so you can focus on reversing?
  27. It's all Octopus other than the DNO who is SSEN. But since everything was clearly labelled on the fusebox which they asked for a picture of in the first place they could have raised the issue right at the start to get DNO signoff rather than at the point of connecting up the cables after he's drilled through my walls. So yes car back on assuming the order wan't cancelled. I've not heard anything tbh. Next week's chase.
  28. It is called a VAQ Diff, and there are cars out there that did not have them serviced at 3 years / 30,000 miles because Dealership staff never told owners, because Service staff did not know, or would say optional to service. (Mk4,s the interval was changed to @ 2 years / 20,000 miles. Others will know about them, i thought standard on 230 / 240,s. But i am often wrong.
  29. As with the Golf GTI, it was an optional extra. As part of the pack you also got bigger brakes and slightly more power, I believe that's it. Autotrader lists the diff is the specs of the cars which have it. (I think they call it an "electro-mechanical locking differential"
  30. Efficiency has been good. Cross Climate 3,s on. I will leave the pressures up until I see how much difference if any with these.
  31. I will wrap myself in tin foil just like I do when using any modern day electronic device. Isn’t everyone doing this ?
  32. If they keep at it they might get more research grants and keep them selves in a job. Holy camoly it must be a worry for those in electric trains, tubes, trams. Especially drivers of these.

Hello, welcome to the forum. You would need to integrate a voltage regulator into the supply circuit. Wouldn't it be much simpler to just clip the RC unit onto the visor?
  34. Havent heard any isseus regarding that tho
  35. The cooling system needs to be flushed, its a very expensive job. There is a risk that the new matrix gets glogged up etc. if the flushing is not done correctly. There is also some pipes that needs to be replaced. Unlucky
  36. I've had my vRS since May '21 and it's been trouble free as far as permanent errors go, yes I've had a few 'glitches' with the infotainment system, things like park distance error etc., but they have always resolved themselves on restart - pretty much like any computer. From what I've seen on here, and it's just my impression is that the majority of the issues seem to be with UK cars - this may be biased by the fact that there may be a majority of UK owners on here. There are also other factors like different specifications for different markets, for instance down under our cars have different engines to the European ones, so hard to compare apples with apples to some extent. It also seems that UK dealers are a bit more problematic than in some countries...
  37. Get a 4.5 it seems a massive upgrade from an infotainment perspective let alone others and I haven’t read any issues at all reported on this forum with it.
  38. I had a Mk 4 vrs from September 2022 until I upgraded to a face-lift 4.5 in July. In all the time I had the car I had no infotainment issues apart from a period of about a month when it kept on restarting, after an OTA software update the problem went & never reoccurred. Excellent car - but the new one is better 😊
  39. OK, mine isn't a VRS but shares the same infotainment system; was a complete 'mare in the early days but has been rock solid for a couple of years since getting upgraded to v1941 by the dealer. Now it's out of warranty I'd have to pay for it to be done or follow the DIY method outlined on here - and accept the risk of bricking the car. The way I see it, the benefit is little, the risk likelihood is low, the risk impact is high - so why bother. v1941 works fine (for me). My car lacks a few toys compared to the VRS, such as matrix headlights & roadsign recognition which had issues in the early years of a mk4. ACC, SOS, blindspot detection, all work fine (now). As others have said, the mk4 is a very good, highly capable, and fuel efficient car; and in estate form a brilliant load lugger. Aim to buy new or an Approved Used model which should have all software updates applied before delivery.
  40. No worries - no errors being needed. There was some sort of authorisation codes that needed updating/replacing on earlier updates that aren’t needed for the later ones so shouldn’t be a problem. Not sure on why navigation isn’t updating/available though. Maybe this was needed and never done on earlier updates etc. Get a 64gb usb stick, download the update, put it in and leave it. Keep checking after every few days’ driving to see the map which the latest is something like 2025.02.
  41. Thank you for your information. It will prove useful. I'll add to this post when I get going on the job.
  42. Thank you 3T51704X4. Strange coincidences the way things work out. Although I had practically answered my own questions about my fuel sender problem following a drain down and refill after misfuelling. Also shows how those who think they are quite knowledgeable can fall foul of their own confidence. After refilling with the correct fuel (diesel) and replacing the fuel pump/ sensor can this last week I have had fault code B103E12 intermittent and finding that switching off the ignition and then restarting the fault would clear. I was convinced that I had somehow disturbed the connections on the fuel sensor resistance track by leaving the tank with petrol in it overnight before draining it and have ordered a new pump/ sensor unit. Tonight I was musing through ebay and noticed the the used pump sender units that had just had the fuel lines cut through instead of disconnected when I realised I have put my fuel lines back on the wrong spigots. Sure the car ran fine until doing a hard right turn up a local hill ! I have rushed out to the car and repositioned the fuel lines. Have driven 25 miles without issue. The car even drives and feels far smoother. There are no stored fault codes. It would appear that mis placing the fuel lines on the pump unit allows the container the sensor sits in to get pumped dry or so low that the sensor track does not sit immersed in fuel which must affect the electrical resistance of the track hence B103E12 'Fuel sensor resistance too high' Someone may correct me if I'm wrong on that one but I don't mind being subject to howls of laughter even if I do have a B/TEC 1st in Motor Vehicle Engineering !.
  43. After a call to the nearby skoda dealer I've found the alarm siren. Turns out it is located in the plenum chamber, wedged between the battery and the brake servo. (I have also finally ordered a new scuttle panel as I was on the phone to them anyway, meant to do that for ages) (Pics are of an RHD model, LHD models will be mirrored here) Removal necessitates removal of battery first. Once the battery is out, undo the nut circled in red, preferably without dropping it. The nut has a captive washer. Once this nut is loose, wiggle the unit as a whole out. It has a lip at the bottom which catches on the battery tray for security, so you'll need to pull and twist at the same time until it comes out. Once it is free, you can undo the plug which is located on the side facing the brake servo, with the plug facing straight down. Et voila, it is removed. Currently the battery is on the charger. I will reinstall it later and see how much it has deteriorated before trying to get it replaced under warranty.
  44. The wait goes on. But by the time they have one for sale they should have it being very efficient.
