  1. Firstly this is my first ever new car at the age of 40.. and it's fantastic. I am coming from a 15 year old VW 2.8 4motion passat, which was a well specced nice car, but obviously I have jumped up a decade and a half. I got this through work and wanted something without a 20 week wait, so basically I got a pre built car which was sitting in Germany. It took just over 3 weeks for the car to arrive. As it was already built I didn't have much spec choice.. My local dealer sent me a list of all Hatch and Estate cars available in the UK and I choose the one closest to my spec.. minimum was front parking sensors and heated front seats.. So my car is a 2.0T dsg combi in Meteor grey with front sensors and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, spare wheel and electric tailgate. I wasn't convinced on the colour, but it was that or black and I personally think the estate is too large for black and it doesn't show off or contrast the black features of the sportline (grill, mirrors, roof bars). Only thing so far are dsg pedal extensions from Aliexpress.. No plans for the car apart from keep it clean.. now choice of wax? I have Collinete and also has a AG lifeshine kit.. Only issue is trying to run it in!! :-)

  7. The jobs that come under “oooh wouldn’t that be nice” are easier to justify when you’re this balls deep into a project, one of these such things was additional sound proofing in the engine bay, again all hidden. Looking online my budget wasn’t excessive for this but the Silent Coat range seemed to get good reviews. I smashed an order in for their 3mm black aluminium topped stuff which is ok for under bonnet use. So remove the sound proofing factory carpet, for once held on with clips that are both re-usable and also don’t render your digits a blooded mess removing them! Go VAG! And removed... I was expecting it to be much grubbier under there bearing in mind it’s never been off!! Quick clean with Surfex and a wash down with a solvent soaked rag ensured the Silent Coat pads would stick. Pads were easy enough to trim, stuck on, warmed with a hot air gun then rollered down with a hard little roller to ensure adequate adhesion... Job done. Obviously the Factory carpet sound proofing clips back over the top and the bonnet immediately sounds solid, no hollow ring when you tap it. Engine cover is next for being poked with the soundproofing stick, just thinking differently for that one...

  8. Ford and Peugeot were using a fuel adertive system instead of DPFS way befor adblue and DPF systems were common it’s not the same fluid and lasted longer ltr for ltr over adblue but this was only to control soot as Luckpants has said adblue isn’t new it was around in the 90’s on PSV vehicles and some trucks I had a DPF on my 2007 Octy scout I actually saw an advert for adblue deleat in a trade mag the other day ! Back to the original post if you don’t want to be bothered to fill up your self your dealer will do it and look in your local area there’s a man in a van buy us and he goes round doing re fills at home

  10. IMO it looks (and I can't believe I'm going to say this...) better on your car @penguin17 - It's slowly growing on me, but I think the Estate has a lot of metal for the grey to cover

  13. Coming from a part of the country where we have narrow roads both in town and out in the countryside, some with speeds as high as 50, the correct procedure seems to be..... that whoever has the biggest vehicle pulls out into the centre of the road, speeds up and puts on every forward-facing light possible. The other vehicle must then give way. The method of giving way is not specified. If in doubt as to who has the bigger vehicle, whoever has the shiniest SUV is the tie-breaker. If both have the same model, then stopping in a fashion that blocks the entire road while you get your genitalia out to compare is mandatory.

  14. I wanted to provide some input to the 'right of withdrawal' option, please note that this is only available to individuals that are looking to buy the vehicle for themselves and not through a company! I happened to do so through the company but the Finance company decided to charge me a years interest (or thereabouts) upfront because purchasing through the company is not protected by the same rights. In my situation, as I could've technically gone for either option and was provided incorrect advice (due to this being a rarity and an unknown) the dealership paid the difference (approx £750) as VW Finance refused to make any concessions at all. Hope it helps someone next time who may want to exercise this right and purchase the vehicle through their company.

  15. Something does need checking out if the date keeps getting reset to 2038. I've been using android auto every journey for 3 years and I think it's brilliant; Google maps is good with traffic updates, Spotify, acast, audible, iPlayer radio work fine and the ability to use voice commands/voice for maps/voice for text messages/WhatsApp is mostly good. Wouldn't have a car without it now!

  16. He is an incredibly nice and generous and knowledgeable chap who contributed massively to the brisky community from the very early years. Did vcds work for members often nothing but a thank you or beer tokens. He left about 12months ago after a new member started harassing and threatening him on both brisky and elsewhere after he did/didnt do some vcds work for him. The level of **** the toerag tormented him with led to him cancelling his membership here and elsewhere. A genuine loss to the community

  20. Just had to have my EGR replaced. Not intending on keeping the car for much more than another 6-12 months so went with a Haas EGR from Euro Car Parts (was about £240 last weekend with their discount/promotion that was running). Local garage fitted it (was about 5 hours labor) and supplied the new gaskets for just under £300 so came in at under £550.

  22. Aside from the obvious arrogance (of some Dealers), I'd imagine that they didn't want to release the car, as the other Dealer would then be loosing out on commission (only a guess mind!) Car Manufacturers / Dealers who have this "can't be bothered" or "take it or leave it" don't deserve to retain their Loyal Customers, nor do they deserve new customers (in me own humble opinion!)

  24. Hi IceyLady, not a Karoq, but my current car (Octavia) is Meteor Grey. I've attached a few pics in different lights. I think it looks great but think it suits a sporty/vRS type car more than the standard spec though. Still would have been tempted by it for the new Karoq but thought I'd better change up!

  28. I had an 11 plate Octavia Tsi Vrs DSG, If you planted your foot on the " go " pedal the box wouldn't change up a gear until the rev counter needle reached the red line. Instant gear change and the revs dropped to around 4K rpm then again went back to the red line before the next gear was selected.

  30. Agreed... when we had our Mk2 superb we didn't bother with covers and when I accidently picked the wife's keys up, I'd open the door and find I couldn't get in (shes Tiny and I'm 6ft2!) and it took ages for the seats to reset! Nice key covers on the Mk3 keys now...issue resolved! @logiclee - Love the Blue one! I have an Orange one and my wife has one of the Pink ones.

  31. Well Roomies I am sorry for this very tardy reply! I didn't recieve notification of any replies, and I did not check. According to the replies, if you were here in Oz, we could collectively storm the Council with scary Roomster Wagon (Estate) supporters and form a Wagon encirclement, just like in the Wild West Movies. Result was : I spent hours writing a submission to the Magistrate stating within the State law compliance, my "sedan" was a wagon. This tome was duly delivered, and I am sure that it had the desired effect of either boring Your Worship to tears, or Worshipful went out and bought a Roomster. Anyway I got off the whole charge with no costs. Yay!!! I subsequently complained to the Motor Registry department, and long-story-short, they said that there was a mistake in classification- it was indeed a wagon ! Well, what can I say. Thanks for all your great replies! PS. I definitely use my 1.9 tdi Vroomster as a wagon- you would not believe what I have loaded both inside and on roof racks! Its Never missed a beat ...Great car ! ( Actually for fun I think I may make another post with this !)

  32. At last the problem is fixed after 9 months and several visits to the garage. Turned out to be the lambda sensor before the catalyst. That is after replacing the plugs, cleaning and re-adapting the throttle body and replacing the engine coolant sensor - about £300 of repairs in total. Annoying thing is fault memory reported the lambda sensor and local Audi VW specialist thought that wasn't the problem. Happy to have a car that works properly and safely though. Hope this helps someone withe the same problem with the DOHC 12v 1.2litre 3 cyl 70bhp engine.

  34. Hi I Know that VW are the controlling arm of the Skoda warranty albeit the company trade as : Lawshield UK Ltd and are the ‘Appointed Administrators and Claim Handlers’ for Volkswagen Services. I never got them as far as a court, I simply wrote them a letter pointing out the terms of the warranty booklet - ie my contract with them, this was backed up with the financial services ombudsman who took on the case and started discussions with them. Under UK law there is quite a lot of protection given to consumers. It's no good ranting and raving you need to extract and lay out basic facts (not opinions) and back these up with bits of law from the consumer and financial services system. It takes time and effort but if you get this bit right they often have no where to go - these are at the end of the day lawyers and accountants - they understand nothing but legal wording and figures. Play them at there own game. I am not a well schooled person just an ordinary bloke. I spent some time doing my research and then very carefully laid out the way i communicated with them. It paid off for me - it was not easy but like I say a bit of effort has saved me a fortune. I wish anyone the best of look in dealing with them and i hope never to have to in the future. I would never make trifling small claims in any case. That said I may or may not take a warranty in the future as the car I have just bought comes with one for a year.

  35. Most people can’t decide between running the 2yr TBM ‘warranty’ it’s course or having a rollback. In reality, any problem you have following a rollback was a certainty to happen with the fix file and in a much shorter space of time. The longer the car runs with a fix file the greater the certainty of a problem arising. There are a list of parts covered under TBM, I think it’s 14 items which include: EGR DPF injectors turbo My thought with TBM was that it was a lot of stress and time to get something fixed under ‘goodwill’ which shouldn’t be faulty in the first place. I couldn’t afford to be stranded at the side of the motorway going to work at 4am with a DPF sensor failure or an EGR stuck open etc. I’ve done 10k miles since rollback, I change the oil and filter every 5k with a dose of AR6400 and I use AR6900 every tank, hopefully I remain problem free.

  36. While I don’t know the number of people who completed a rollback, there are now over 700 people who have joined the rollback forum, there are at least 3 requests every day for a local expert to do the work. it will cost you between £80-150 to have it done, takes about an hour including removal of the pencil holder. The list of damage to the car is fairly lengthy and technical but in short, your car after the fix now produces less power below 2000rpm so you put your foot down more. Your car produces way more soot (I forget the figure but it’s something like 6x) so your car regenerates 2-3x more often. The extra soot and regens have the EGR work harder so EGR failures are far more common, so much so that VW have a backlog on order and they have produced quite a few files to cycle the EGR in different ways to reduce the failure rate, which produces more soot. during an active regeneration the fuel leaks into your sump when you turn the engine off, this dilutes the oil and wrecks the turbo seals and the piston rings, it also trashes DPF sensors. be sure to get an oil and filter change done ASAP, particularly if your dipstick shows the oil is very full. There are numerous documents on the Facebook page to help and understand. for ref, I had mine rolled back and the difference was staggering, I’d go as far to say criminal. Volkswagen et al. deny any of these problems exist.

  43. I went out to trade and buy a new car...........my intention was to do the deal THAT day. My list of 3 dealers and cars were set. Second dealer was VW. I advised them of my clear and specific intentions. They refused to give me a trade in price for my car unless I took out their VW Golf for a test drive. I said, “OK, let’s get the Golf out for a run”. The response came back “You will have to come back in 2 days time for a test drive”. I said “Thank you. Goodbye” i vowed never to buy a new VAG car again and then the emissions scandal hit! Karma

  44. Your car (EA189) is before SCR was developed on VAG cars, and its only the larger EA288 models that use it. 60 miles on the motorway is perfectly fine for the dpf. Your car probably wont generate enough heat to do a passive regeneration, so it will be performing an active one where it injects fuel into DPF, it takes about 30miles to complete. DPFs tend to only have issues on short journeys where they cannot regenerate. Active regenerations cause oil/fuel contamination. Recommendations from the EA189 diesel gurus on these engines are: do not go with longlife service change oil and filter every 7000miles due to fuel/oil contamination use either premium diesel or an additive to help keep the EGR mechanism from gumming up As Offski has said, please check to see if your car has had the emissions fix as the DPF will be the least of your worries - EGR, injectors, turbo charger... they will all have accelerated wear and increased failure. Check here with your VIN http://skoda-recallactions.skoda-auto.com/en-gb?cd=0 if it has been fixed, then go to facebook and join the "EA189 Emission Fix Reversal Assistance Forum" and get it rolled back by one of the recommended tuners ASAP. If you want to monitor your cars DPF, EGR and regen behaviour and you have an android phone, then I would highly recommend downloading VAG DPF, you can connect it to your car with a Carista which are £15. I bought an android phone specifically for it, gives much better piece of mind as to what your car is up to and the Carista helps with diagnosis (you can also program your car to a certain extent). Absolutely do not let your car be updated by Skoda. ps, the sales person was supposed to advise you that the car had a diesel particulate filter.
