  1. I'm not entirely certain how much help this is, but if you unlock the car and don't open a person door within a minute it relocks itself by design.
  2. I identified it on mine by the smell alone.
  3. Porous flexible section in downpipe?
  4. AIUI if you fail a "pre-MOT" the car classifies as unroadworthy just like if you failed an annual MOT.
  5. @Alasdair1 @Breezy_Pete I was talking about recessed drive fittings, not embossed, since @cello specifically talked about "Allen keys" in the OP. I have sets of triple square and bi-hexagon drivers in my tool kit. Said tool kit is some 200 miles away though.
  6. No, well not beyond that "Allen keys" are 6 (SIX) point heads, not 12 so it's no wonder that they don't fit right. I don't even know if the bolt heads are triple squares offset by 30 degrees or bi-hexagon.
  7. Fixed that for you. ;)
  8. For similar age engines I've made thermostat gaskets from breakfast cereal packets.
  9. <weary> What nose weight is in the trailer?</end>
  10. The "47 views" in the post metadata (visible in the forum index) seems like an indication of how many people thought they might be able to help.
  11. That reads like it's going into limp mode. Get the fault codes read.
  12. ISTR It took about 4 hours for a pro mechanic to do it on a turbodiesel, including stripping and replacing the cold side HP air pipes.
  13. @s45 As @Warrior193 says above.
  14. The "logic" refers to this being a fairly common fault, to the extent that it is regularly mentioned in competition drivers' (auto)biographies.
  15. Tell an independent VAG specialist this story. They may have a suggestion (my thoughts being around the expansion bottle).
  16. Based on other replies, if you have 15" wheels, 312mm discs (well the brake callipers) won't clear the wheels. If you have VAG 16" or larger, you need new calliper carriers, discs and pads.
  17. This sort of fault sounds like a loose connection on the battery or starter motor/solenoid to me.
  18. According to SUK latest recommendations, cambelt life is ~130_000 miles, but experience says that a plastic water pump impellor has a life of about 90_000. It may well be driven off the cambelt. Those are the facts AIUI; your call.
  19. I'd expect those fixing before taking delivery. Oh and software and firmware updating to latest standards too.
  20. As a generalisation, that would depend on the brakes and that is more dependent on trim level and engine that model year. Also, depending on brakes fitted you may need to remove one or both of those bolts to change the pads anyway. This may seem unhelpful, but anyone who doesn't have access to your car will need this information.
  21. Firstly, congratulations on the Race Blue, the best colour. Secondly, the quoted faults can all be either fixed (hopefully) or confirmed using VCDS or OBD II. Just cancel them and see if they stay gone.
  22. A 5 speed box is definitely a manual. A 6 could be a manual (direct bolt in, test by selecting 5th, and try to change up by declutching and pulling straight back. No coding needed.) or a DSG, in which case you should no longer have a clutch pedal.
  23. It looks like a tailpipe for a vRS. Is there a badge or evidence of one having been removed, on the front grille?
  24. I like the Vitesse more, at least in part because it's a drophead rather than a saloon (there is, at least in principle, also a fixed head coupe with a hard top but a similar roof line to the drophead).
