  1. I guess if @TMB were to disco his gearbox speed sensor, he'd see the same sudden variability? I was vaguely aware that the fuel gauge sender might not be permanently 'excited' having looked at the circuitry in mk1 and mk2 Fabia clocks. Easy for the relevant microcontroller to pause sampling if some threshold acceleration is calculated to have been exceeded.
  2. I think the float pivots in an arc in roughly the direction of travel, and behind it's axis of rotation, judging by the polarity of my observations. People may be keen to howl indignantly that Fabias do have steering angle sensors, but they'll be meaning the turn rate sensor instead.
  3. Removing the relevant cabin fuse for ABS on my Polo on the way home demonstrated this interaction. Braking made fuel level drop, accelerating made it increase. Not having a gearbox speed sensor meant I had an alarming array of warning lights and no speedo!
  4. Dunno with the PSB bushes, thought they were meant to be easier than OEM. Lube and ratchet strap is probably where it's at.
  5. Are you sure it is at 90° on a Fabia @J.R.? @BilTechnik where did you read about this feature? I'm presuming you didn't make it up.
  6. ^ Oh, and there's another leak site I had omitted to consider; thanks. 😁
  7. Crow's foot wrench, with long extension(s)?
  8. Not the garage to be using then, as they've probably quoted for both bits to cover their asses. But see edit to my last post, please. If it were just a junction leakage, it would just need re-sealing, nothing replacing.
  9. Sump (two parts) part numbers e.g. here LLLParts Has the leak been localised to 'between the two sump parts' or between both and crankcase? Edit: or impact damage, presumably to lower bit?
  10. Nice one, cheers for sharing that fix!
  11. IIRC your car has a speedometer sensor on the gearbox, Lee, which may make a difference to the instrument cluster side of things?
  12. On my Polo it's only 16mm cable and a 90A alt, but watching a voltmeter it only starts to get pulled down if you have everything (both PTC relays, cabin fan, rear screen heater) on and leave it at idle revs, which I tend not to do for long enough to worry; just enough time to scrape ice from the side windows while the rear screen heater and PTC soften the other two. Once on the move the alt can cope, but the Polo is very dry compared to Fabia, so very little internal moisture to remove. No ice and I'll drive straight off. However, with the OEM system the control algorithm's probably going to get involved and reduce power to the PTC, so yes, probably best to put bigger alt there.
  13. WD suggests it'll be 25mm² already on AMF/BNV/BNM so should be good to go on that front.
  14. Can you apply some heat to soften the plastic? What will have happened is that water will have got in between the hole in the aluminium console and the plastic outer, corroding the aluminium which will tighten up on the bush. Cutting them out with hacksaw is a quick and dirty alternative.
  15. This all I can offer: LLLParts Not sure why they truncate the first couple of characters off the part numbers, but guess they should be 03. Edit, or maybe not always. Could do with an ETKA expert, are you able to help @varooom? The last one in that list (120A) appears to be 045 903 023A, and seems to fit your engine.
  16. Which car/year/engine will you be working with?
  17. Ah, I see, yes, just seen the * not valid for vehicles with air conditioning system bit in the WD. Good info.
  18. That's not ringing any bells, what page is that on? Ah, maybe J248, the engine ECU on diesels? I think the system that piggoy and I came with up was independent of that, more self-contained, from memory. I'll have another look at the circuits, but I think it's only the diesel engined Fabias that have that wire in the engine bay loom?
  19. You don't think you can measure acceleration by measuring wheel speed changes?
  20. Go for it, please. I ended up fitting a manually controlled system in my Polo, just a couple of rocker switches on the coils of the two relays. Never got round to making it inhibited by the cabin fan being off or any such niceties. Works well though.
  21. Think I've seen an adaptation channel in module 17, Instruments, so yes, something is tweakable. Can't remember details, have a play.
  22. Right hand one of the two marked 53 on bottom row. Left hand one of those 53s on bottom row is your ECU relay.
  23. The bit about non-OE batteries not being able to be coded sounds like a blatant lie. Doubt coding would change the situation though. Find a local VCDS owner to do it for you if you want. Quick, easy job I believe, Battery voltage as measured by you, and seemingly confirmed by them does not seem low enough to cause legitimate warnings, I expect there's a minor but irritating fault with the battery management system that they wish to avoid fixing at their cost under warranty.
  24. Perhaps the OP can look at the service code on their boot floor sticker?
  25. UK market Fabias may not have been supplied on variable service in 2008 root, but other markets probably were. Mk1s could be on variable in other markets. See this ETKA page for year 2000 Fabia for example, first section of table engine oil; for models without extended servicing... - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2000 year] (7zap.com)
