Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

The main issue is with the NOx outputs.

They are well on their way to finding a solution, what that solution is at the moment is under wraps.

I think you'll find it's AdBlue! :D

I'm wondering if there is a hidden reason for bringing it all to light.

The states have been refusing for years to meet quota's for pollution levels. If they have been given some kind of fine or warning for it maybe this is them trying to pass the buck and blame it on something out of their control

What with the news of VW trying to murder us in our sleep and the killer cows filling the air with methane, we are all doomed I tell you, doomed!

i'm sure there must be a conspiracy in here somewhere   :peek:

I think all of us air breather want to get the diirty cars out of our cities as quickly as possible.

So stop selling them in the UK/EU until we actually know how bad this cars are, they appear to be ten times worse than petrol cars on the Key NO emissions.

We know the solution is to fit them with SCR/ AD Blue systems so that what should happen.

Whilst not denying that diesels produce more nitrous oxides than dirty petrols, there is a reason why diesels are looking so much worse right now. Because petrols have already had their nitrous oxide emissions controlled via more complicated Cats. It is now the turn of the diesels with EGR and SCR.

All this scare mongering that diesels are dirtier than dirty petrols is just that- Scare mongering. They are both dirty in their own ways, but with diesels having the added benefit that they pump out less of that silent killer, CO, and use up less of our oil reserves.

Looks like a good time to by some shares when it bottoms, the only way will be up in a couple of months.

If people have ordered TDIs then they should be offered TSIs with compensation by VW for the fuel difference.

As a solution to any problem, that right there is just ridiculous. There isn't a compensation pot big enough to tempt me into a petrol snorting machine.

I think you'll find it's AdBlue! :D

Yes adblue injection and egr systems are there to reduce NOx output but the solution they are hinting at is retrofitting adblue injection systems to the vehicles concerned!

I bet there will be some emails flying around VAG in Europe to dealers of how to cover their backs and fob off the unlucky b######s who purchased their product, unlike in the USA with the fear of libor action they will do the right thing....like the TFSI engines ,where in this country they fobbed off the customer with all sorts of excuses just to save a bit of money but in the states they knew the game was up and replaced the engines but we are British and we take it ,like lemons.

I think it's just the engines with Adblue and SCR systems. I wouldn't worry

Seeing they are referring to 11 million engines now being effected with the 2.0 140hp version being the most represented this has the potential to be VW's worst nightmare.

Fines might be minor compared to the potential buyback scenario

A class action has already commenced in the U.S. (Surprised?.)

If it's ~ 40 times over in the U.S. they will fail substantially elsewhere at the very least.

Resale nightmares to me = optional buyback.

You can hear a pin drop in the boardroom of all manufacturers I imagine.

Be honest would any of this really stop you from buying another VAG product?

Sure, not. People usually cry like "they sold me a bad car!!! A bad car!!!" and after some while they have forgotten it :) And that's good. Did they sell you a car without brakes? Not really. Someone simply didn't like it for some unknown reason.

Americans should not make themselves as great friends of environment. Everyone knows what kind of cars they usually drive. I don't see anything environmental friendly at all.

Give me a 'dirty' diesel over a petrol.

If this is to be believed modern petrol's can cause more pollution than even non-DPF equipped diesels...

It is also food for thought when you consider that the worlds 15 biggest ships create more pollution than all of the cars in the world...

Imagine that!

Seeing they used AdBlue at higher rates to combat a 'test' image the consumption rate for AdBlue if it was required during normal driving.

An AdBlue fill was supposed to last between services for many......now you might need to fill with every station visit.

Not what you signed up for?.

VW...TAKE IT BACK OFF ME AND COMPENSATION TOO.

Perhaps every new migrant to Germany will be given a VAG car (diesel) and accomadation that might be why they are letting so many with no ID.

I always have suspicions when the U.S. regulators find fault with a non-American manufacturer.

Maybe their's won't have the last laugh after all.....they might be hiding under THEIR boardroom tables too.

I have been on audi forum and someone with an Audi S3 on order and about to leave the factory is going to cancel his order over this scandal. His dealer has apparently agreed to re-reimburse his deposit too...

I think this is a bit strange given he then states once its all died down and 'if' VAG hasn't folded he'll probably re-order... Its a PETROL........!

that doesn't make any sense on their part seeing as though it's only diesel engined cars that have been labelled as having the issue.

I think you will find a petrol TSI with ACT cylinder deactivation will be very similar to the a TDI.  You do not need as many HP in a petrol to be better performance than a diesel.  The 1.8TSI is a far better engine than the 2 Common rail TSI, better acceleration, new one combines direct and indirect injection.   1.4 TSI ACT or 1,88 TSI, especially using the 7 speed DSG which they can use and the diesel cannot in a fantastic combination for economy and performance.

On the European continent where diesel has been 20% cheaper than petrol (hopefully that will change now) but in the UK diesel do not make sense where the pump price is similar.

After being forced to have 4 cylinder diesels for a decade as a company car just loving the choice of picking my own superior three cylinder petrols, virtual no road tax, 55 mpg, cheap to buy and not adding to another 75 deaths a day in the UK.

Behave!

AdBlue is currently being fitted to some Skoda models today, the usage remains minimal and is perfectly manageable. It can even be topped up by the owner if required.

Of course it's 'minimal' as it stands because it's currently predominantly being used to 'mask' the problem only during a detected 'test' but if the test rate becomes permanent to fix the problem the consumption rate will surely soar.

Retrofitting would be a v expensive fix and I imagine it would be up to the current owners as to whether they are satisfied by the 'fix'......if not.....?.

Volkswagen have lovely new Euro 6 Emission Golfs with 1.0 litre petrol engines for sale.

Anyone in Europe that needs a Mid Sized Hatch or Estate & concerned about pollution could maybe look at those as an option.

Behave!

How much for an option is it??

Bet they charge VAT on it even though it is a safety/health thing, B*st*rds.

So far, that is.

Someone might make the link between Audi drivers and their levels of intelligence.

I doubt that any owners have the option to ignore this worldwide emmissions scandal.

It's probably out of our hands......but you might get an offer from VW you can't refuse seeing v few second hand prospective buyers are going to touch them at anything other than a massive discount .

Lawyers are lining up to screw VW.

So far, that is.

Their main gripe at the moment is with the NOx output which diesels produce far more of than petrols.

If the US authorities choose to investigate other VW AG models then they'll have to check other brands too or run the risk of singling out VW. I'm sure if they check they'll produce similar findings across the board.
