Maybe VW will ultimately be forced ( probably by a class action) to buy back from owners if a fix is not mutually suitable (emissions for the regulators - power for the owners) ......even the Australian regulators won't be able to ignore this, will any?.

Are you guys over there going to be effected by the emissions problem that VW has created on its diesel motors that has broken out in the US?

I can't see how it will do anything to us here in NZ as we don't have emission checks but do you over there?

If you haven't heard, VW has software in its diesel cars (models last 5+ years) that when doing emissions checking has reduced the results to be compliant but reverts back to not being compliant when not in test mode. VW share price dropped etc etc, going to be bad for them. Wonder if Audi, Seat and Skoda can deny knowing as well?

There are no Skodas sold in the US; I'm guessing SEAT is the same.

It appears to be only diesels fitted with SCR systems but Skodas appear to be meeting present regs with EGR instead so not an issue for us yet...

So listening to all the news and it being reported the driven on the roads emissions could be 40 times higher.

What were the VW official Emission figures in California for these TDI engines that could only be met when the car was undergoing the Annual Emission testing.  The OBD Port is used during testing.? 'Smog Testing'

Were they the same as the figures in the other US States and World Wide.

ie

'VW Installed Software that meant that only during testing was the Full Emissions Control System turned on'.

 

Does this then mean that the Official Emission Figures must be fiction not only in California but even more than we suspected every place else that the same engines are by used.?

ie

'The Full Emission Control System is never fully working' when cars are being driven on the road.'

What will be effected, 

you bought a Dirty Diesel, & you knew it was a Dirty Diesel & the Road Tax and fuel rates must still be as you expected them to be, and the Australian Government are not going to tax you extra are they.

 

If any Government World Wide does impose extra Taxed on these Dirty Diesels already in someones ownership the Volkswagen Group will be compensating every buyer of them.

(Not in Shares because they will be valueless.)

 

The Volkswagen Lease & Finance Schemes will be interesting as people might return vehicles and VW Finance might have to compensate losses, 

and then the 'Great Residuals' are not so wonderful on these returned cars, at least for Volkswagen Dealerships.

 

Bargains to be had soon in various new and used VW Dirty Diesels it would look like.

Just wondering what, if anything is going to happen to the new EURO 6 diesels in the VAG group?

 

Will they stop manufacture untill further testing is done , or move the emissions up the scale and let users pay more excise duty.

So I buy a Volkswagen because it is a "good car". It has been back to the garage for warranty work due to loose brake caliper clips, a product recall and now this emmissions scandal in the USA?

Feeling somewhat feed up with the whole Volkswagen "experience" at the moment.

However it seems ironic to me that the Yanks have found this issue with emmissions on economical European cars but are quite contented to drive around in vast pick ups that only do 10-15 miles per gallon. I am sure there is a isolationistic, vested interested interest here? The Yanks have never liked diesels but they seem to have plenty of pollution in California from gas guzzlers?

People bought New Euro 6 Emission Skoda recently and then received a £100 cheque from Skoda because the Emissions Co2  g/km is slightly wrong.

All happened in a rather quiet and un-publicized way, like Skoda / VW / Audi / Seat Service Campaigns, 

You do not get Autoexpress, Autocar, EVO, Topgear, Which, Car etc etc showing much interest.

Often on a need to know basis is the Volkswagen Group way in Europe.

Ssshh  do not tell everyone, it is a voluntary recall (service campaign) and not 'Safety Critical'

never bothered running an article like this one which said 'Recall not required', 

but a SERVICE CAMPAIGN HAS STARTED NOW, BUT NOT A VOSA RECALL. SO THEY DO NOT HAVE ALL KEEPERS CONTACTS, because it is a Voluntary Service Campaign, and many will never hear their vehicles are part of it

& Skoda UK never bothered to put it in the News Section of UK  Websites beside the 'Good News' Srories 

and Increased Sales, Awards won etc.

Which engines are the offending engines guys?

I'm sure there's a long list of other manufacturers that are doing the same.

Wow.  Just bloody wow!  Presumably this will also affect any Skoda with the 2 litre engine.

 

Apart from the company losing millions of dollars in fines - what will be the effect if/when they have to make changes to our cars fitted with the affected engines?  I can see a class action looming for damages if the changes affect the value and/or fuel consumption of our vehicles.

 

The whole thing is a bloody disgrace and they should be more than ashamed of themselves.  I for one will not be buying another car from the group.  I wonder if they will even survive if the situation escalates and I can also see prison sentences in the States for German management.

So I guess it involves 'Blue Motion' series cars sold in the U.S.

Many folk are saying it's the tip of iceberg and other manufacturers will be found out, not sure who else is trying heavily to get a diesel foothold in the states? Merc? BMW/MINI? You don't imagine GM or Chrysler trying to promote diesels; I don't remember seeing many other European manufacturers in the US, and the Japanese don't seem big on derv.

Hopefully some of the fall out from this will be changes to the ludicrously unrealistic testing that determines the official mpg/emissions values for cars, seeing as everyone already knows they bear no relation to real life

+1 - corporate deception was invented in the land of the free!

The reports in the US are only for engines fitted with LNT systems so it wont directly affect most European engines as many don't have Nox traps or SCR systems yet.

The TUV in Germany already announced (& I imagine many other countries) they are monitoring the outcome of the findings in the US.

 

However, if it turns out that VAG us a generic "defeat device" (like activating a special low-emissions mode when the bonnet is open or back wheels are stationary) it may well affect European cars as well 

 

In the end for the consumer I don't see this as the huge disaster the media is trying to make out.

The fuel economy on my VRS is 15-20% better than my last Mondeo and previous Focuses or Mondeo for the same kind of Journeys.

This means 15-20% saving on fuel. If this comes at the cost of some extra Nox emissions (that would be less than someone burning wood in their home wood burner) then I know I for sure wont be taking my car to the dealer for the calibration "downgrade"...

Suzuki say VW took their research and technology and never gave back to Suzuki VW 'Secrets'.

 

Suzuki were buying 'Fiat' Engines,

 that is JEEP / Fiat Diesel Engines,   & VW took the huff.

 

So lots going on.

2010 the VW USA CEO left to go to Volvo,

and in 2013 went to GM..
