What bulbs are fitted to the S3 & upgraded bulb recommendations

I have similar reverse lights (tried two makes now) and they cause the DAB to drop out while in use so it’s the reason I won’t change the indicators over to LED. Do you get the same problem?

It would be good to see a pic of the dipped bulbs… my Osram Cool Blue Intense H7 (road legal 4200k) are noticeably warmer than the DLR.

Pictures don't really show but now the dipped beam Phillips racing look "very warm" against DRL'S and the 100W MTEC Super Whites look "slightly warm" against DRL'S.

With the stock DRL's the Phillips looked a very "cool" colour temp.

I'm happy with results as main focus was getting rid of the old DRL's that ruin the look day or night, the MTEC bulbs are not blindingly bright so could be used for dipped if one was happy to take the chance. So the old stock candles are gone for good!

Bulb listing/links in previous post

Will show the Nightbreaker H8 fogs later

I noticed the camera struggles to pick up the difference when straight on… top down shows it better.

It would be good if 4500k (or even 5000k) PWY24W were available, but I can find any… at least, not from any sites I’m willing to trust.

Anyone recommend 8000k DS3 bulbs?

if u care about actually seeing where ur going at night - no way.

if u care only about looking cool with purple headlights - sure, fill ur boots.

anything above 5500k and u start to loose light performance/output.

Yep purple is generally 10k+, fully awareness of light output etc, but would like a bit more blue.

Although I don’t want it to look aftermarket, so perhaps I settle at 6k

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a brand.

Well I changed to these boot lights and they are ridiculously bright

The boot torch now looks quite out of place so I’m wondering if anyone has soldered some new LED chips onto it? The ones that run off the batteries are great, but the boot facing ones are far warmer on the spectrum to match the OEM boot lights. I will check what voltage (serial/parallel) they use, but if they are just standard chips I might give it a go… unless someone has had any issues before?

I was wondering about that too. Would be cool if this works (changing the kelvins) and if you can increase light output ^^.

So about the fog lights, the OE osrams give out a lowly 800lm so a led replacement would be huge improvement. But it turns out it's not easy to find a replacement that has all these:

  • Adequate color (4000-4300k)
  • Matching wattage (around 35w) - most leds are way over or under (and then you need the canbus ****, plus missed opportunity for higher light output)
  • Fanless design - most leds have this huge fan behind them. No only that there might not be enough space but come on, moving parts? I bet a fan would break sooner than a halogen.

Can anyone recommend something that also fits in a 280?

What do you think about https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-styling-Car-H7-H4-LED-Headlight-For-Cree-XHP50-104W-12000LM-H13-H11-H1-9005/32818088440.html - it's 360, 4300k but a bit too powerful, might draw too much current? Does it even fit a 280?

Or perhaps https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2x-H1-H3-H8-H11-9005-9006-30W-CREE-Chip-Led-Bulb-Halogen-Color-4300K-Warm/32828424762.html - seems like it might just work with its 30w draw? For sure it fits the 280.

Hi

Any issues with canbus errors on the S3?

None at all, plug and play the ‘resistor’ included is not needed either

I fitted these too, bought from ebay, worked whilst the boot was open but on closing caused the interior led's and the boot open display to flicker on and off followed by the boot unlocking so changed them back and opened a case with the seller wh o is currently trying to figure out why.

Yes.

I've ordered a slightly different model from the same seller; I ordered reverse and indicator lamps.   They arrived within 2 weeks but haven't tested them yet as I don't have the car they are going in.

Just installed a set of amber BAU15S indicators from AliExpress

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2Pcs-Car-Light-1156-LED-BA15S-P21W-LED-BAU15S-PY21W-BAY15D-1157-P21-5W-R5W-Canbus/32849592837.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.zQM20O

Nice metal construction, bright 3030 SMD leds but not eye zappingly so and good colour finish.  Retail boxed in foam so no problems with being broken during delivery.   Works ok with no errors.   On discount at 7.06GBP delivered which seemed reasonable - Came to me in 10 days which is quick by AliExpress standards.   They white ones would probably make for a sensible reversing bulb upgrade.

Mine don’t have the cree chips running up the side, just at the top.

Ahh ok, I've ordered the ones in my post picture. Have been dispatched so give it another week or two and will post up when they are installed :)

Trying to work my way through this long topic for LED fog light upgrades

Found these https://www.hids4u.co.uk/h8-high-power-12-led-foglight-bulb.html - are they going to be okay, or likely to cause error messages etc?

MY18 S3 Sportline 220PS DSG

Many thanks in advance

don't think so, the light beam will be too wide from that design LEDs

your vs benchmark(Philips) vs compromise

your  benchmark(Philips)   compromise
