I'd like to sharpen up the throttle response on my car and having read through numerous posts in this forum, I believe one way of doing it is by enabling 'Audi' throttle mode using vcds (or similar). My question therefore is, is there anybody in the Darlington or Billingham (where I work) area with a vcds who would be willing to come out and do this for me (plus enable a few other things maybe like traffic sign recognition).

 

I know there are other (and maybe 'better') ways of sorting the throttle response but they all involve forking out almost £200 which I'd rather avoid and from what I've read, the 'Audi' setting might be all I need. I'm not looking for a race-track sharp response, just an improvement over the 5-second-wait-for-something-to-happen response we have at the moment. I know sport mode improves things a  bit but I like to squeeze as much mpg out of the car as I can so I have it set in eco mode 99% of the time. 

Might not help the op but does this throttle lag thing happen on every model? Was it included by design I wonder, to discourage the sorts of people that may drive Skodas from accidentally ploughing into their garage or swimming pool or other people.

Yes fuel type or power output makes no difference.

 

@Albourneboy you may get a better response if you contact a VCDS owner directly (map of owners in my signature) and be prepared to travel to them.

I know you say you prefer going down the VCDS route but I recently fitted a pedal box, 2 minute job to fit but the result is good and also adjustable to suit. Although as you say it is £200. I wouldn't discount it as an option.

I've changed my mind! DTUK have produced a new pedal box so I've ordered one. Couldn't find any details for the 'Audi' setting and as the pedal box unit is highly configurable, decided to go for that instead. 

My pedal box arrived this morning so I fitted it at lunch time. Had a quick play and it makes a considerable difference to the way the engine reacts to your right foot. Makes the car much more enjoyable to drive and now it really feels as though it would accelerate to 60 mph in the time Skoda publishes (7.7 seconds).

As above, mine made a big difference. I now have the car in normal mode but use the pedal box to improve the throttle response. The throttle is now as reactive as in sport mode but without holding onto the gears on the DSG for too long.

Hi Albourneboy. -  have been considering this for some time.   Any chance you could let me know after using it for, say a week ?   Just to see how you feel about it after using for a little while.   Thanks.

Finally took delivery of my car today.  I can kind of see what people mean with this.  I do suspect it is intentional by Skoda though.  The superb is pushed as being very comfortable and therefore it kind of makes sense that the first 50% of travel is very gradual, to make the ride more smooth for the passengers.  

It's taking some getting used to.  I've heard others on here mention a problem, that I've already run into it, whereby you push the pedal.... not much happening.... push some more.... still not much.... push a bit harder again....BOOOM WHOOOOAH THERE TOO MUCH.  This puts it at odds with the comfortable thing.  

I'll give it a couple of weeks to remap my right foot before I throw money at it though.  For now, the wife can tut and the kids laugh and tell me to do it again

when i picked up mine brand new - the throttle response was a "bit lacking" and the engine felt tight.

but a 1000 kms later - its "loosened up" nicely and i don't feel the throttle lagging or lacking anymore.

Had my pedal box fitted for 3.5k now and honestly can not go back. The difference is night and day, also with the various programs you can tailor to suit. Worth the £180 and brings the car up to expected response level.

A pedal box is sounding more and more like a good purchase.  Which one do you have @Rossy75?

Have had mine fitted for a week now and it's great. I I still drive around in Eco mode but have the pedal box set on it's 'City' setting + 2 leds and it makes a big difference. The DSG still changes gear low down the rev range but the response from the throttle is so mach better. Will be going to to Norfolk this weekend with the caravan in tow. Connecting the van's electrics to the car puts the into Normal mode automatically so I will set the pedal box to the first of the sport modes settings and see what happens.  Must try the car in Sport mode with the pedal box set to it's Sport+ mode one day.

Changed my setting to Audi a while back and noticed no difference.

 

Anyone know if the "Plus" model is needed at all?

I have to say, I didn't really notice any difference, either. 

I think a pedal box is now on my shopping list and I have only had the car 5 months.  I know what people mean.  When I drive my wife's Octavia 2 FL 1.8TSi the engine feels very much more alert than mine that is for sure.

@simhub I have the DTUK one with the multiple modes. It's on the website for £169 but there may be some forum discount, I'm not sure. 

Like I said really nice piece of kit and the discreet cubby box to the right hand side of the steering wheel houses the program selector nicely, with no wire showing and the ability to swap whenever required. Just watch sport 2 +3 it's too savage on my DSG auto.

My Sportline has Economy, Normal and Sport modes, but also Individual, where I can mix parameters from the 3 options. I use sport throttle but most others are normal settings.

Just wondering what the little electronic plug socket on the top of the unit is for? It's not mentioned anywhere in the manual.

If you're fitting it to a brand new car then avoid the temptation to try out any of the higher settings until the engine has bedded in - after about 500-700 miles.

My personal opinion would be to not fit it until the engine has completed the manufacturer's recommended minimum running-in of 1000 km (625 miles) - especially with the 220 or 280 petrol engines.

It's a USB Micro-B port used solely by the vendor to download the software parameters of your car to the controller's Eprom. That's why you need to specify your vehicle model and engine when you order it so that you receive it pre-programmed for your car and with the correct connectors. If you later decide to use the same controller on a different type of car/engine you should contact the vendor to have the Eprom reprogrammed - that's also assuming the 'other' car uses the same type of connectors.

My 280 now has a good 774 miles on her and I’m keen to fit my Pedal Box + that I got from DTUK.

 

Question before I do – On ordering the Pedal Box I obviously had to specify my vehicle so that it came with the correct software for my vehicle etc.

However in the Manual it gives instructions on ‘Individual tuning with PerfecTune – How you perfectly match your PedalBox to your vehicle.’ Do I still need to do this?
