1.5 SEL first gear issue.

It's supposed to fix everything. See my earlier posts, it fixed the engine dying in the middle of a junction. It didn't fix the kangarooing, if anything made it a bit worse.

The first fix was to fix the "hesitation" (dying at junctions etc) - which seems to have worked on my car. The next fix - due in "the next two months or so" is to fix the kangarooing; at least, that's what I was told by Skoda UK Customer Services. I suspect that there are major delays caused by the need to retest every tweak and twiddle in the light of WLTP requirements.

The fix for "hesitation".  Does it have a proper name, or release number, or part number, etc that can be quoted?  And does it state for which engines, gearboxes and model years, etc it is applicable to?

Or is a bland "we have a fix, bring your car in, they install it"?

My Karoq 1.5TSI EVO manual MY19 had the update for hesitation at the end of April and some 900 miles later it has improved in respect of low/no power flat spot at under 1300revs in 2nd gear but it could still be better in my view.

Didn't have the kangaroo issue to start with but after the update on a very few occasions from start up there has been some brief Joey type 3 or 4 hops.

The warranty invoice stated the car was road tested and hesitation was noticed and the Skoda UK supplied update given to the dealer was used, TPI was mentioned but I couldn't get any reference details about it, I contacted SUK using chat and with regard to the details of the TPI they couldn't/wouldn't give me that type information.

On a round trip of 151 miles from home to the nearest city using A and B class roads the Karoq stats stated the fuel consumption for the day was 48.2 mpg

Sounds like they installed a computer virus if you hadn't got the skippy characteristic before the update but now you have. Think I will stay well away from the dealer because I can drive around the hesitation in the wife's Karoq.

As with 'Apprentice' above, my car is an MY19 manual (Sept 18) and the story is the same - though mine did have possibly more of a 'kangaroo'. The kangaroo is still there, possibly worse, but I have been told about a second, anti-marsupial update in  a couple of months time. I was just asked to take the car in towards the end of April and this was followed by weekly phone calls from Skoda UK to see how things were going. I wasn't given any further information about the first update - but then, I hadn't asked. My main concern was that, as the car had cost 3x the price of my first house, it desisted from trying to kill me.

BTW, I very much get the impression from this thread, that some dealers are FAR better than others; I seem to have a decent one.

Just been informed by my local dealer that the new update is called "THE MOLE", because most of the time you will not notice it but if it rears it's ugly head simply hit it with a large spade and it will be sorted. Sorry to any Mole lovers out there.

The dealer I sourced it from sent me an email reminder about the service this week! I actually use a different dealer closer to home who were happy (naturally) to take the booking. Mileage will be around 8500.

Checked with dealer yesterday and mine (July 18) doesn’t have a fixed service regime, it’s mileage dependent and doesn’t need a service until 18k miles. I wonder why yours is on a fixed regime and mine isn’t? At least it will save me £300.

Did you not get the free 2 service offer when you purchased the car I thought that was a nationwide benefit?

Our manual 1.5TSi has over 16,000 miles on it now and dropped a friend off at the central bus station late last night (very little traffic) and 26 mile return trip averaged 50.9mpg. Long term is over 49mpg.

Happy days. Just done a 28 mile round trip to daughters house and achieved 52.6mpg.

I have no issues with the fuel consumption. Mine averages 38mpg on a three mile urban trip which I think is quite good.

My gripe is that it behaves like a drunken marsupial when moving off if I don’t give it at least 2k rpm.

It shouldn’t  happen on a car of any quality let alone one produced by AVG.

One year in and STILL no resolution.

Not good!!!

Great car on a long run but the issues need sorting for us urban dwellers.

It certainly is!!

Yes it can be avoided by giving it a fair bit of right foot but that does not make it ok.

I would have had dsg but my wife isn’t comfortable with it.

Last Octavia was dsg and a really nice car. I don’t “love” this one.

whats the TPI number for the kangarooing? Is it the same across all VAG brands where they use this engine?

TPI 2050744/9 for my Octavia 3 FL

Did anyone think about chip tuning (like Revo or APR)? Do you think it will solve the problem?

Of course, this deprives us of a guarantee, but I already agree to everything, just to not feel this horror every day: (

I got told yesterday by my dealer that as far as they know there is no fix imminent, I’ve successfully rejected mine, should be all done and dusted by Tuesday. In a Volvo now.

Congratulations!!

You are lucky. Although the law is also on my side, I still can not do anything for 8 months.

Last chance is a trial, but it is too expensive:(

SUCCESS!  i am pleased to say, we have finalised rejection of our 18 month old car.  The failure of the last update, plus my new concerns about the flat spot when pulling out, were the final nails in the coffin.

Thanks to a supportive dealer and Skoda finance, within three weeks we have returned car, and upgraded to VRS, 6 months newer at no cost to ourselves.

I think given the history it was a fair deal.. . Have only driven the new car a few miles, but the difference has been immediately noticeable.

Good luck to all others with rejecting cars and even more luck to those who are goingto wait for the problem to be fixed.

Just received my 1.5 SEL Karoq today and taken for a spin. I didn't notice any 2nd gear hesitation and no kangarooing at all. I'll keep tabs on it of course, but the drive is very smooth. So far I am very happy with the ride comfort

I did the same with my Superb almost exactly six months after taking delivery.  Sad to part company with it, as it was otherwise a great car.  The fix eliminated the second-gear flat spot, but not the kangarooing, and I was very concerned that this would be worse again in the Autumn/Winter.  Now driving a rival make, as there were no suitable petrol alternatives in the Superb range with the fuel economy that the 1.5 promised.  Like you, I had a very supportive and sympathetic Skoda dealer.

My dealer wasn’t interested, no admission of any issue, no contact for 4 months during rejection and no interest in trying to get me into another vehicle, shocking. In a Volvo now.
