End of last week - it was sitting there in stock.

 

I'm told they stopped making the current S3 months ago and the only new cars available are those that were already in stock. I was told anything ordered in recent times or now would be delivered from Oct onwatds.

Latest update is a bit of a beast - almost 30GB uncompressed!  Currently copying to my 32GB SD card which is taking aaaaaages!  Should be fun when it comes to updating!

I used a 64GB USB stick and it took less than an hour to update. I just sat in the car with the satnav on and switched the ignition on and off a few times to stop it sleeping.

Are you sure it’s new? It’s still saying to me that the last update was in Nov 2018. Map names are 2019/2020 but so they were in the last update (said Nov 2018). VW site still doesn’t have an update (last one is Oct 1, 2018).

last spring Škoda's portal were also faster than VW,
but yes, usually VW portal got files few weeks earlier

I wasn’t implying that they are cheating. I was just confused as the site still tells me “Last update was Nov 2018. Next is Q2 2019.” and VW files from 2018 already have 2019/2020. I thought that they maybe just reshuffled the old things for whatever reason.

Looking at MartiniB's links above, it looks like the maps are between two and six months old before they are publicised. If I've read it correctly, the latest download seems  to contain files from December 2018. I don't know for sure if that is the case, but  it would tie in with my experience in that the update hasn't recognised (for example) the removal of the toll gates on the UK M4, which happened at the end of January 2019.

 

Where did you see the last update info? Mine just shows version number and the 2018/19 against each country.

I'm aware that map update process is slow (that's why people like Google Maps much more) and maps are old the day the hit the public. For me the best feature of Skoda maps is that I have a next action in front of me without having to look to the right at the infotainment.

The November 2018 update was version P76.

 

This May 2019 update is version P79.

 

It shows the version details in the metainfo file, with each release.

 

p.s. mine is the "ROW" map version, not "ECE"

The thing is that with ECE they named Nov 2018 version as 2019/2020 and it's still called the same. The only number that I can attribute to the version would be 1115 which is the same as VW file I downloaded a couple of months ago (Nov 2018 on Skoda didn't have ECE A1 2019/2020 version).

 

Where can I locate metainfo file to check more details of the version?

 

P.S. My car is MY19 with Amundsen.

This looks nothing like what I see for Amundsen so I guess it’s for Columbus?

 

Since you know your way around Skoda/VW maps, could you check last two Amudsen versions?

The one that can be downloaded from Skoda update site right now is STD2_1115_EUA1_201920.zip. This is allegedly May 2019 update.

On the other hand, VW file from October 2018 is DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1115_V10.7z.

 

The whole reason I started this discussion is due to "1115" being the same in both of these. Somehow I feel that the real update has not arrived yet (at least to Amundsen) at neither Skoda nor VW.

You will need to change the download directory folder if it does.

 

Based on this comment from another thread, in December of 2018, the file name was STD2_1115_EU1_201920 which is the same "1115" as it is today.

just three files inside are different

also browsed and compared content of Amundsen and Columbus archives,
there none file or folder title are similar

Ok, so my hunch was correct one. Q2 2019 update has not happend yet (at least for Amundsen). Will keep on checking.

Not sure if i'm doing something wrong this time. I've updated successfully twice before, but this time when I download the zip file for 201920. I haven't got the downloader app. The previous version tried to look for the 2019 zip file. Is it possible to download a more up to date version of the downloader app which looks for the right file to decompress.

Thanks, found that Windows has it's own unzip tool. Just hope it's actually worked and will transfer to the car's system!!

Just downloaded the latest map from the Skoda Portal and get a checksum error on the Poland map when I unzip it. Trying again now but did anyone else have the problem ? 16 Minutes to download 25Gb still amazes me now !!
