But it would fit in your garage or on your drive.

Big enough for my parents and 3 children, and my Grandfather & Uncle before them who I would reckon were as tall as if not taller than you, it would be swallowed by a standard garage.

Standard garage sizes havn't changed since then but vehicle sizes and peoples expectations have, modern vehicles are catastrophic from the point of view of space utilisation, for all their size even a small person wont be able to move their knees or elbows sideways more than a couple of cms yet all these vehicles regardless of their size can accept an overweight 2m high adult in the drivers seat or passengers seats.

Regulatory car parking space size and the distance between opposing rows hasn't changed either.

Nope, it wouldn't fit in the garage, myself and my 3 sons are all 1.94m tall and me and my eldest are built like brick sh1thouses and while I could fit into most drivers seats not even my wife could possibly sit behind me as there is literally about 2" between the back of drivers seat and the back seat. One of those cars would have been fine when the boys were babies in their baby seats but as adults, no way on earth. Hence why I was looking for so long to find another decent Superb, or other similar sized car that was reasonably cheap to to maintain, tax, insure and run.😤

I thought perhaps I had not quoted the words "in my case a small car will not fit me or my family "

Are you really saying that a small car would not fit in your garage?

My 1960's garage door has a 2.4m clear opening, the one on my last house built in 1958 was the same, any small car could pass through that and the garage behind is always considerably wider, the Skoda Superb is 2.031 metres across the door mirrors leaving plenty of space even with them not folded. Length of a standard garage is 6m or longer so again no problem with the Superb.

It sounds like you want to park in front of your house to stop anyone else doing so, which if they have a large van & your front garden is not long I can understand in terms of blocked light.

What I'm saying is that my car would not fit in my garage as the garage also has other gear in it like 2 freezers etc and unlike garages which standalone, mine is part of the house structure and also part of the neighbours house. In there words, it is attached to both houses and the garage door only just fits between them so when you get inside the garage it measures something like 2.6metres wide between the walls and with the doors on a Superb being larger than most smaller cars, and the doors are indeed thicker most other cars, that there is insufficient space to open the door and get of the car. It might just be OK if you are built like Twiggy but totally useless if you have a large frame like I have.  The neighbour who has the race to get the spot outside of my house, also cannot use their garage, mainly because they are using as a living space even.

APR hat kürzlich ein neues Produkt herausgebracht, das eine ähnliche Funktion wie der DCC- Mod hat, aber 10x mehr kostet.

Es ist ihr Suspension Control Module (SCU).

Do you have any experiences with this?

But you don't automatically have the DCC slider either

No I don't have the APR SCU - there is no need for me to because I have the DCC Mod.

Nor do I know of anyone who has got it.

As I said before, the DCC Mod is way cheaper than the APR version, and it use the Arteon algorithm, unlike the APR one which uses an algorithm made for the Golf - so no good really.

Yes I have the DCC slider - it's part of the DCC Mod.

Slider in the middle is Normal.

Took the car to Wheelbase on Sat to secure a courtesy car and collected the 280 today after they’d replaced the water pump etc. Bloody ridiculous; the cost of parts were over £480.

I feel your pain.

Correct.

Going into ECO Driving profile doesn't change the DCC mode.

It will remain in whatever mode it was set to by the previous Driving Profile.

Hence if u were in Normal and change to Eco - DCC will remain in Normal.

If u were in Sport and change to ECO - DCC will remain in Sport.

ECO Driving Profile only changes the ACC, Drive mode, Xenon lights and AC.

Thanks for the explanation, last night I tweaked my settings in the individual mode to give comfort and eco modes plus the AFS mode for the lighting. I could never work out why they decided that people using the eco would not wish to take advantage of the extra safety of enhanced lighting mode?

Vor 20 Stunden sagte JR RS:

das ist auch nicht nötig, weil ich den DCC- Mod habe.

DCC mode is all well and good, but the Arteon data set is not optimal for the Superb either. There can sometimes be problems, since there is more to it than that in the gateway.
If the data set came from the Passat, it might be better.
But the fact that it works that way is good - I also know that from Octavia drivers.

I would only have been interested in what the APR module can do more/better than the original DCC STG.

I must admit after watching all the various YT videos of the mk3 with DCC that I was expecting a far more compliant ride from comfort mode, TBH I don't think it is much different to the ride of the mk2 without DCC which is a bit of a let down.

We could just get my wifes MKI Fiat Panda in our garage, which was built by the first owner of our house in 1946, to keep their Austin 7. Actually, I should add I had to climb through the hatchback to get out, having left the garage doors open! Oh yeah, there’s an inspection pit in there too!
I’d love to have a double garage to keep our 280, where I could store and clean it, however the cost would be prohibitive I suspect.
Does anyone know the cost estimate of a concrete brick garage with a corrugated roof?

Ditto. Our place was new when we moved in in 1986 & has a single attached garage. I just about managed to get my wife's Mk1 Seat Ibiza in it when we first moved in & like you had to climb out the hatch to get out. She refused to put it in the garage & we've never had a car in it ever since. Nowadays it's my storage area come shed come workshop & is so rammed with tools, appliances, push & E-bikes, lawnmower, floor to ceiling racking, workbenches &, most recently, a wall mounted Solar inverter & battery that you can only just about walk down the middle of it.

As for the cost for a brick garage have a look below. 🤑🤑🤑

👍It seems it's cheaper to convert an attached garage to living space than have a new garage built. We had a quote to convert our attached garage into a room a few years ago. £7k & that including insulating the floor to meet latest building regs. Decided against it because I don't really have anywhere else to put all the stuff in the garage because our garden is quite small with no room left for a shed etc.

On the flip side my son is about to buy a 1930's house that has a concrete panel stand alone garage &, wait for it, 6 sheds!!  I'm quite jealous.

The garage needs to go because it is not big enough, has an asbestos roof & is located where they want to extend the house. Most of the 6 sheds are going as well because they are rotten & will make way for a "work from home" office in the huge 100 x 18m garden. Guess what I'll be doing after they move in?

We moved into our current house in 2014 (built in 1958) and one of the main criteria was a garage that could take my MX5.  I did want a double garage but no joy so settled for the single.  The MX5 fits pretty easily but it's smaller than most cars these days...   and the previous owners only ever used it as storage.

It was the same at the old house (built in 1926) which also had a garage built at a later date.  And both garages have needed work due to being unused (roof in the old house and crack stitching and new floor in the current one).

In terms of cost of a garage - it might be worth considering a pre-cast concrete garage as I recall they are considerably cheaper (anything from about £5k upwards) and some are 'clad' to look like brickwork...  I investigated them a bit when we were house hunting and finding houses without garages and most are pretty good these days (I'd certainly be happy to have one).

Took the Blue pill and updated the firmware of the MIB2 Columbus unit in Gandalf today.

Thanks to @varooom's guidance.

The headunit had no issues, but I just wanted to update it cause newer is always better, plus there is a TPI for it - 2047101/6.

No noticeable changes really, but it does feel slightly more responsive.
Could also b placebo effect too....

Would appreciate a link to the instructions on how to do it, please.

Anyways, I've attached a how to guide I just created.

Firmware Update Guide v1.0.pdf 6.43 MB · 11 downloads

Many thanks for doing this, what prompted you to do this in the first place, in other words, why did you update, was it to fix a problem or just a desire to have the latest firmware etc?  If it was to fix a problem, what problem were you having?

Edited by Graham Butcher

@Graham Butcher , @numskull - I had no issues with my MIB2 unit, I just wanted to update the firmware to the latest version, given I have a 6 yr old car.

After the update though, it does seem to b faster in doing things, like loading up.

According to the TPI, this firmware update will address the following customer issues, which I had none of.

Screenshot_20230701-195612.thumb.png.ee3a4ba92db8eb6d28b9e14dd33249ba.png

That is what I thought you updated it for, just wanted to check to make sure my assumption was correct. Currently I'm not having any of the issues as listed in the TPI, so may not do the update at this juncture, but I do want to do at some point soon is to try and update the maps, POI and also get the TMC working again, which I still have to research further. But well done on your "how to" guide, we really more of these types of guides for the benefit of other members. 👍
