I thought I'd read somewhere not to use micro SD cards in an SD adapter. I could never understand why, and as I happened to have a 64GB micro SD card handy I used that for the update, which worked fine.

Mib2H zip i were able extract by built function of Total Commander 7.55

but Mib2 zip failed that way and i had to use WinRAR 6.1

I have successfully unpacked all of the 2022 map files using BreeZip after 7Zip failed to do it for me. I never heard of BreeZip before but it was a free download from the Microsoft App Store and has resolved the problem for me, so I recommend trying it for anyone else who is having problems.

You might find that Microsoft use the same code in their File Manager built in unzipped. I used the built in option of Windows 11, right click, drag and drop. No issues. Expect it's the same in Windows 10... so did you try that ?. 7zip moaned but generated the same output but I opted to use the File Manager built in option. Think they used a varying level of compression on those files which upsets 7 zip.

I didn't even know there was an unzipper built into Windows. So no, I did not try that.

ECE file now also on VW's servers

I just can't get a good download on this - tried the direct link twice and the Skoda Portal twice. Each time while extracting I'm getting:

File Header is corrupt

Never had this issue before.

The VW portal link is kinder using 7zip on their zip file. As mentioned earlier it seems that Skoda mismanufactured the 7zip file to use with 7zip. It moans but works whilst the Windows built in one works without moaning. VW zip works on either and no moaning 😍.

I don't think I gave the File Manager example screen here, open with the built in Windows Explorer, sit on the download, right clicks and Open With Windows Explorer.... so easy:

The unzipped should have this size then you know you are in business:

Perhaps this is why I'm struggling to update from the Skoda portal via my Mac using 'Unarchiver' to unzip?

Always worked in the past.

Frustration is winning - might have to get a chum to d/l it on a Windows machine?

The VW recommended way for Macs is Keka and CleanMydrive, although I do know that some use Unarchiver.

 ATTENTION
If the map update is performed using the Apple® OS X operating system you may find that
Discover Pro does not recognise the map material or displays it incorrectly. This is due to a
lack of compatibility between the “7 zip” program and the OS-X operating system. In addition,
the OS-X operating system has a tendency to create hidden additional files on external data
media. We therefore recommend that OS X users use the “Keka” unzipping program. We also
recommend using the “CleanMyDrive” program to remove any hidden files.

There the issue is whether the Skoda zipping method works any better in Keka. CleanMydrive takes out the dross that Mac's put in.

Another solution is to use the VW portal that doesn't have the "funny" zipped file in it but still needs the special treatment on a Mac.

Thanks, Tell - I'll give all that a try - what a wonderful resource Briskoda is - well worth Freedom subs!

Sorted - Many thanks!  👏

Reckon he'll need a photo of the screen with hardware part number, firmware number and map serial number. Mib 1 / Mib 2 / standard or high. Four combinations to resolve.

That's a MIB2 High showing the previous release of the maps so either of these:

# ECE 2022        26.5 GB
Version:    V03.959.810.C 195 ECE 2022
DevVersion:    P195_N60S5MIBH3_EU_NT_Q1.21
 VW portal:   https://vw-maps-cdn.lighthouselabs.eu/vw-maps/P195_N60S5MIBH3_EU_NT.7z

 VW portal:   https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/P195_N60S5MIBH3_EU_NT.7z

Avoids the Skoda zipping discussion and VW servers are faster than Skoda generally.

I have also had problems unzipping the ECE 2022 download for my Columbus (tried twice and got a 79 error message) which I have not had before !

As a check on my MacBook I re-downloaded the previous ECE 2021/22 which unzipped without any problems and is currently installed on my sat nav, so there is clearly an issue with ECE 2022.

I will look at some of the solutions proposed but may wait until the next update as I would hate to corrupt my sat nav.

Traditionally on a Mac based on VW instructions you were suppose to do what I posted up on 1st November, Keka for unzipping and CleanMydrive once it's copied to the SD card. CleanMydrive removes all the Mac garbage that if inserted within the files will stop the unit doing it's SLA1 signature check. Suspect thou Keka might blow a trumpet on the way the files are zipped by Skoda. VW download doesn't suffer from Skoda's wobbly zipping so you are better using that link. It's all the same material. Bit by bit .

Hi Tell, thanks for your reply, I will give the VW a try later this week.

I always use CleanMy drive after unzipping to clean off the Mac inserted rubbish otherwise Columbus will not accept.

Cheers, CJL

Hi, had same problem with ECE 2022 unzipping HIGH12_P195_EU_202145.zip. On Mac it doesn’t worked, then tried Unarchiver, it was unzipped, in car it showed update data available after plugging card in slot, but when I pressed update software, nothing happened. Then I download it again on windows, tried winzip - error with unzipping. So then I tried default unarchiver from windows and directly copied it to SD Card and now when I press update software it shows NavDB 2022 continue so I am going to do it today 🙂

BTW question to all who use Columbus. When I am in information about version, press update online it shows me License is not available, but that’s not true because I have all paid, locking unlocking everything works except this update online function. Also maps update online doesn’t show new updates, I must do it by USB.

DO NOT USE THIS FILE

I've downloaded this file using my VIN twice to eliminate possible download issues, the checksums being consistent so downloaded correctly.

Testing the file with 7-zip's test function, it has numerous invalid headers for the files it contains. Therefore the zip file has been incorrectly built or stored corrupted on Skoda's servers and is not useable.

It's not that you shouldnt use it, read above, it's they changed the compression between the files in it so it throws up 7zip errors. MartiniB used his method he recommends above (Total Commander on it I seem to recall), I used the built in File Manager unzipper of Windows. See above also... or just use the non Skoda alternatives for the 195 release.

Think Skoda now assumes you use the built in File Manager unzipper, right click on the zip file within File Manager, pick the unzip, drag and drop to a new directory on HD, copy out. Bob is your Uncle. All on the thread above, 22nd / 23rd October.

Xman & Tell,

Thanks for your input on this issue.
