This may or may not be the best place to answer this question but I am at a loss to solve it . The problem is a long saga. To be brief . The Skoda connect services on my car produced  error Skoda connect. I took the car to the dealers who reflashed something and in the process removed the FEC code for the voice enhancer. It went in again and they reflashed 5f and in doing so put back the fec for the voice enhancer but removed the fec for media command. I purchased the car less than 12 months old as an approved used. Since then with  customer services involved the maps  won’t   update in the car via Wi-Fi as they have duplicated a my poi licence( see pictures ) which causes an error when it connects to the server and Skoda seem clueless how to remove it. Also they cannot re add the media command fec 00060200 as it appear it was installed legitimately post production but Skoda  uk are no longer supporting the app which they have removed from the App Store so they won’t reactivate it as they say the accessory code is no longer available and they can only reflash from FAZIT. So I have an online update system that crashes and an icon for media command that if used will often cause a system crash The car is a sportline plus 2020 MIB 2.5 unit .

Any assistance e would be appreciated . 450A792F-8F33-43BE-B1DF-BFCE755E9B03.thumb.jpeg.f3a4e6fa42def005fd7914a2b93df015.jpeg

You might want to look at Mib Tool which you can install in the green menu but you need a module for your firmware release, failing that the enthusiasts that support the tool have to write you one for free. Once the module is installed it gives you control over the FeCs. So you could add your missing FeC code, it also has the ability to remove duplicate FeCs. It's been used on Seats to remove duplicate FeCs where a retrofitter made a pigs ear of some work and screwed up the navigation FeCs.

There might be Briskoda experts on the board on another thread on this, but it's all the same tool across VAG developed by European Mib2 enthusiasts. It can be found in

It's sits in M.I.B

where they don't know about your firmware you upload the backup it generates into M.I.B_Backup

I believe they have slightly changed the way it's packaged since I used it. It's one of these thing you use once. Then I had one of the Seat experts to write me the module for my firmware. He also sorted out the guy with the duplicate FeCs. How the group works is they have experts in the brand so I expect you need to make contact with one if your firmware isn't within the tool. They do look in the return directory.

3.1.7 is what I used, they are on 3.2.0 now.

I didn't find a match on the board for Skoda experts in this.

Those Audi people of recent asking map questions will have passed through the link on firmware using an AIO version I suspect which combines the firmware with mib tools to add FeCs in an easy update. Due to you using online probably not a good idea to go for a complete firmware update but a FeC tinkering tool. In mib tool it does list the firmware it works with across the brand once you have it on an SD card. You can nose around seeing whether they have a patch written. Addfec.txt is then edited in notepad to add anything unlisted. I see they have your media one dropped. You should just be able to edit it in. The Seat one is dropped on the same basis. After tinkering, you reboot the unit, long press and go to the FeC listing screen. Mibwiki supports the link. Google on that as well. Being computer programmers they can be exacting 😉. I can look at back posts to see how duplicate FeCs are removed. It can be done in the tool or a module run. Where it came to pass that the Seat guy didn't need the extra programming help it was in the tool.

Basically the tool packages retrofitters techniques but in the car in a user friendly way as possible.

If you happen to live in Yorkshire, East Yorkshire Retrofit could probably sort it out by putting it on a bench using traditional retrofitter methods. They are reliable. The place that Seat people go to if they don't feel comfortable with DIY or mess up their units. They do all VAG. They use another associate in that location who is their expert.

Thanks for the information. I am still pursuing with the dealer. Skoda Uk have had another dealer look at it but basically said someone has interrupted or incorrectly cleared errors and as a result they won’t help as say it’s not a manufacturing defect and suggested I go to the ombudsman if the dealer won’t assist further  . So if the dealer that messed it up or sold it with a fault won’t assist it’s the ombudsman I think, and then the above options. A trip to  Bridlington may be in order. I am looking round Manchester to see if there is anyone there who does what East Yorkshire retrofit do.

It's Ryan of North East VAG Adaptions in Durham is the associate that East Yorkshire Retrofit use. That guy is used by Seat mib2 high people after they mess up their units on DIY firmware updates or another retrofitter has messed it up or fancy a firmware update want someone to do it. They cover VAG stuff. Durham may be closer or easier to get to. They use traditional on the bench retrofitter methods rather than the end user Mib Tool approach. For that you need a bit of hand holding when your FeCs get messed up. That's how I got the Skoda navigation FeC on my Seat when Seat dropped support for one release only.

For DIY you need a Mib Tool Skoda expert who can do a bit of surgery on your FeCs or the module if it's currently not supported by Mib tool. One of these guys did it for free on a Seat for me. Another case where a retrofitter in France had messed their FeCs.

If you don't fancy DIY and / or are not plugged into the Skoda network of enthusiast on firmware then it's a retrofitter.

Ryan is actually East Yorkshires technical expert sub contractor. If you told them the FeC you wanted and the duplicate ones etc they could sort it out I'm sure for a cost obviously.

Seems a bit of a mess that your dealer messed it up. Ryan does do a postal service so your dealer could send it to them but you'd have to be clear on the missing app FeC you need and the duplicate. The Mib Tool people miss out that app FeC from their app like Skoda do but it can be put back in by the user. Retrofitters uses "Whatthefec" for their work, Ethernet / USB port boxes to the laptop and password crackers on the unit.

Traditionally on a Mac based on VW instructions you were suppose to do what I posted up on 1st November, Keka for unzipping and CleanMydrive once it's copied to the SD card. CleanMydrive removes all the Mac garbage that if inserted within the files will stop the unit doing it's SLA1 signature check. Suspect thou Keka might blow a trumpet on the way the files are zipped by Skoda. VW download doesn't suffer from Skoda's wobbly zipping so you are better using that link. It's all the same material. Bit by bit .

Hi Tell, thanks for your reply, I will give the VW a try later this week.

I always use CleanMy drive after unzipping to clean off the Mac inserted rubbish otherwise Columbus will not accept.

Cheers, CJL

This was my case. I tried to make sd card from a year and I gave up obviously in time(thanks to apple car play). But after reading SLA1 signature check made my day . Finally I am able to update navigation maps. How come I didn't think about it, I don't know.

Hardware :

- MIB2 Columbus
- mbp 14" 2021
- SanDisk ultra 64gb microsdxc a1 10

Software:

- disk utility

- keka

- CleanMyDrive2

Steps:
- Download map files from skoda update portal.

- Format sd card with ExFat

- unzip map files with keka

- copy/paste files on sd card root directory

- clean sd card with CleanMyDrive

- follow instructors given from skoda to update maps.

Thank you guys.

Hi all, grateful for any help - I have trawled these forums and made many attempts at updating maps, but I'm stumped.

We have a Skoda Octavia NE MY14 Elegance, bought 2nd hand last year. The maps haven't been updated since 2013. Skoda portal says our unit is a Columbus, but finds no maps for our VIN. I've tried downloading the most recent maps from the Skoda and VW links above, and unzipping to an exFAT SD card, FAT32 SD card, and an external hard drive. I've used Total Commander, Windows, and 7zip to unzip. The car always checks for updates for a while, then comes up with the 'No data available' error.

Any suggestions? Is it just that the car is too early to accept SD card updates? Seems odd given it has 2 SD card slots...

Thank you!

That's a Mib1 Columbus. Whilst the download is suppose to cover mib1 and mib2 Columbus it isn't clear to me how you get them in a mib1. Via DVD I think. There has been a conversation before and DVD was mentioned. Think I went off on the two layer discs. Normal writer does one but some do two.... cue the mib1 Columbus experts. MartiniB might know. Mib1 High is before I came into this. Think the moderator also knows about mib1 high units on how they got map updates into them... that might have been the cconversation that I had. So it's a combined release for mib1 and mib2 high but you just got to get it into the unit.

You have got that reading in since its showing you the contents or that's what you have it on now thanks to a retrofitter say. You might find the manual on internet. Well I reckon the secret rests in the world of writable two layer DVDs but I could be wrong. If you got the unit from a retrofitter he might have circumvented the DVD by having it on a workbench using a laptop or the backend menu to do the job....

But then reading around people have done it via SD. No Mac involved ?. I posted the VW pdf periodically. That's on these threads. That gives the hard and fast method. Away at the minute so can't did those out. Using a Mac us tricky, CleanMyDrive after. On a PC 7zip.

The integrity of the unzipped file is checked so any odd characters in it will slam on the brakes.

@rlhortle Are you using generic SD Cards for the update or Skoda branded SD Card?

Generic SD card - from my understanding Columbus doesn't need a Skoda one

As @Tellmentions above, I seem to think that Columbus units from that year had to be updated with a DL DVD.
The contents might not be the same as what’s in the download links too.
Does @MartiniBknow anything?

have no opinion with Mib1
and yes, even when Mib2H download/upload procedure is easier than find for manufacturer DVD for Mib1,
i prefer Waze for daily routes and additionally Google Maps for abroad trips

Yes it's what you said last time this came up. DL double layered DVD. If that's the case you need a special DVD writer that does double layered DVDs and a double layered DVD to go in. My old Panasonic combined DVD / hard disc TV recorder does this.... was a way of packing more onto a DVD by using dual layer with the laser cutting two surfaces from one direction going below the top layer. I wrote a few, re-writable DVDs. More expensive. Was a passing technical curiosity like those high audio CDs.

If it isn't the media then it's going to be the navigation FeCs but I thought Skoda had always been lifetime navigation FeCs as now. Perhaps they were not and set at a lower limit so whilst it's a joint mib1 / 2 high map release its limited by the navigation FeCs that Skoda decided you could only update for 5 years after the death of mib1 updates.

This one is all before my time on mib. Probably / Certainly the European enthusiasts on mib know the answer if MartiniB doesn't. Chillout one of the programmers was working with mib1 units before mib2 I reckon. Taking them apart and tinkering with them for years.

Built in does me fine. I do run but both when being the "navigator" abroad checking the Google route with the Here Maps one. That way you get the overview as where you are and the street navigation from the car system. You can keep an eye on whether the navigation is cutting a corner off up single track lanes which you rarely want to do. They both have an ability to do that. Google has real time traffic, TMC can lag. Google / Waze you all do the rat run together in a traffic incident.

Is there a max size for sd card? I’ve 128gb one brand new out the box, copied unzipped files on to it and put it in the slot and get “sd card Error. Check sd card”. Genuine Kingston card so not cheapy one either. On my laptop the folders and files look fine.  I've tried it formatted as FAT32 and NTFS (took forever to do!) but get the same error...

I don't think there is a limit but use exFat. I did some timings and NTFS is slow on an SD card. Above 32gb you change to exFat on SD cards. Best not to have a love in with NTFS. That's a HD formatting method.

I did come across a Skoda site recently if not VW that warned the 32gb SD card limit is broken (which we knew you can't guarantee it will fit with the November 2022 release, so it's now official you need a bigger card) telling you to buy bigger.... I didn't bookmarket thou. 64gb card that I've got ready. Also there is a limit that you won't get above on speed that I posted up on the November 2022 release thread. The upshot of that was dont buy really fancy cards the chipset in the infotainment unit probably wont work any faster. You can do it via USB and that will be NTFS in that case.

Macs can floor you but I don't think you were using that. CleanMyDrive and Keka is the order of the day on them.

The latest thread with the links to the map files... difficulties etc. SD v USB etc. My musing and timing might be on another release of the maps. Conversations spill across like this one.

On buying SD cards you are unlikely to get speeds above the 100 MB/s due to the chip set in the unit. I posted that up somewhere.

Golden rule

SD 32GB fat32

SD >32GB exFat

USB (big) NTFS

Beware Macs need the CleanMyDrive and Keka.

Follow the unzipping instructions.

Attached VW gospel but doesn't cover the new >32gb SD card which it should. Tells you location etc on the copy.

PS I'd format it to exFat and start again.
