@skomaz Yes, I've heard that with different brands, which seems eminently more sensible - one button simply to remember your prior settings (or even by driver) - but I'm not sure VW group (except perhaps for Audi?) take that more intelligent approach, and I have generally liked Skodas.

KISS or KESSY? Are these two different things?

@ Evolution13 UK. I'm strongly visual, and more easily distracted by irrelevant sound (including passengers...). Hence, "KISS prior 2024" - I agree. I think I can see where this is heading. For example, we're well into all this now and looking through I haven't seen comments on this Mk1 sub-forum complaining about settings (whereas I can see them on the Mk2 forum), hence, if Kodiaq - then perhaps Mk1 not Mk2, etc. "Do not assume" - yes, good advice, I was just trying to narrow it down a little to start with.

This isn't about whether owners think a brake fluid change is necessary at 2 years or not, just be careful with Richmond when getting a quote. I contacted them in June to ask the price of the brake fluid change and was advised it was £100.?? Inc Vat, I thought this was a bit expensive and the operator seemed a bit unsure so I rang back the next week to check that price and was told it was £69.19 Inc vat, which was roughly in line with the prices I had read online so I booked my karoq in for service on that basis. Today I rang to check my booking and was told the brake fluid change was £100.?? I'm not really sure which advisor was right, but will now be looking for an independent to do it....

@26DIPP The beauty of the UK is that Home Deliveries or the Postie gets through and if not the roads are closed. & it used to be that when Snow Gates were closed 4s4s were allowed through. Those days are over because Police Scotland often have un-suitable vehicles / inappropriate tyres. Snow socks can be just the job for getting out of an icy parking place when inappropriate tyres are fitted. I carry a set just for the use of others that do not prepare for winter conditions.

Hi, My daughter has lived and worked in the french alps for a few winters and throwing chains on takes her less than 5 minutes in thick snow - they had competitions as you do..... She has had the chains on for a week at a time when there was still thick snow in steep terrain. Driving a Superb I have seen threads where people have fitted snow chains to 18" and 19" tyres. You always hope that you do not need them, but I still "practice" to fit mine and sometimes the roads are not cleared as quick as you hope when there is more than 24 hours worth of snow fall. They just cannot clear all the roads at the same time.

Just so you are aware it is probably also worth checking whether any newer vehicles can have a shortcut added to the settings profiles. I've had Peugeot and Nissan hire cars recently that have had this such that one press on a button switched off a number of these mandatory settings.

I tend to use suggested presets in Lightroom to process my images most of which tend to be over processed. Spent a bit of time on the train shot hopefully being a bit more restrained. I’ve also posted the original shot as a comparison. I underexposed the original shot to avoid burning out the sky, then pulling back the detail and shadows when processing. Hope this gives an insight to those interested. I couldn’t resist “tidying up the clouds too. 🤣

Some people know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. I bought 2 X 200 grams of Tesco De-cafe yesterday with my Club Card Personal prices for £4.90 and got 55 pence discount. I reckon that is about enough for the next 3,000 miles worth of when i am filling a flask.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice. I have a Columbus RNS-510 radio and am experiencing the following issue: If I connect the radio via the CANbus connector, it starts up normally using the power button; however, if I turn off the car using the key, I can't turn the radio back on with the button the next day. I have to disconnect and reconnect the CANbus connector, and then the radio works again for a while. I was recommended a firmware update by "josi"—which automatically includes a Gateway fix. Could someone please confirm if this is the case? Also, does anyone happen to have this firmware? I’m attaching a photo of the radio's label. Skoda Octavia II 2008 Laurin a Klement. An ice car running out of fuel can do damage to the fuel system with pump cavitation etc. Expect they did the ice car from fuel light coming on, put in the £5 of fuel and then recorded when fuel light came on. 40 miles was quite good but that was but that was sweltering with no aircon as I struggle to think of any ICE car with a heat pump. Even my £20k Renault 5 has a heat pump and running with aircon hardly affects the range it seems to me. Still to test my 40 / 43 kwh R5 past 0% SoC to compare to Bjorn Nyland getting 46 kms in the 52 / 55 kwh R5.

@PWX01 Are you in the UK or elsewhere in Europe? As far as i am concerned, i pretty much like the KISS and pre 2024 first registered cars in the UK. But not all 2024 on are a PITA and in need of switching off or disabling compulsory features. Best thing to do IMO is test drive what it is you plan on buying, and do not assume a near identical vehicle will function or have the identical functions / features.

Thanks for all th suggestions, sorry for late reply, tried soft reset to no avail so did factory reset which worked a treat. After watching him change things again I worked out it was the privacy setting. Once he turned it to private it disappeared again and although I changed it back again neither a soft reset or switching on and off again bought it back. So another factory reset and we are good to go lol. Thanks again for all of your help it was much appreciated.

Think the older skodas were painted better. As said my sons mk1 fabia paintwork and underside is pretty good for a 55plate but both my newer octavias are rusty. Old one under rear and sills/wings plus middle of drivers door panel and newer 1.6tdi under rear,sills,front wings and estate boot lid around nplate and nplate lights. Alasdair

Not so breaking news. Someone who can charge a BEV @ 6.5 pence a kWh can go the same distance as someone paying 65 pence a kWh and for a 10th of the cost. Just have access to a property with a charger and cheap tariff electricity and you are onto a sure fire winner as far as the economics.

I doubt that for the Video that the ICE Citroen was ever run to empty or the tank drained then £5 worth of petrol added, but hey hoe it is show business and there is no business like show business and vloggers / Image creation.

I reckon that using chains is a "last gasp" activity, involving getting numb fingers and hands, using lots of time to fit, then finding somewhere to pull over and remove when conditions dictate that. I've only ever used snow chains on one car, a 1979 Ford Escort 1.6 Ghia and they were used with "normal tyres" - they served their purpose, but I never ever bought new ones for later cars. Winter tyres on "one size down" tends to be the smart solution for people that think that they might end up in trouble, or want to attempt to stay in control - typically if you need to resort to using snow chains, your probably attempting to drive on unploughed snow covered roads, and eventually the underside of the car is going to make contact with the snow and so slow you down or stop you, and now you've blocked the road for snow clearing teams and emergency vehicles. Would Snocks ie snow socks not be a better idea?

I charge on a Gridserve charger on Thursday. Think it was about 87p per kwh. Had done 200 miles from Worcester to Dartmoor and was just getting a part charge to get me back to Worcester. Yes expensive compared to other chargers but very good site, good cgarging speed of about 100 KW, went from 25% to 90% in half an hour, M&S on site, still waiting to see the bill, Gridserve took a tenner deposit and still waiting 4 days later for the actual amount to appear which should be a £35. I have been ripping up petrol receipts over 5 years old and rarely are they for less than £50 and that is for Fabias and Octavias and they have quite small tanks. Running EVs is saving me and the family hundreds of pounds a montn I reckon.

So they got 4 times the range and they 'might' be able to get the charge costs down to a quarter meaning it would be even Stevens... Anything less and the EV would be more expensive.

Doing this will only be a first look at the system especially while it is running under load, you should be able to check for typical running (high side) pressure for the fridge gas in your system, online - ambient temperature dependent.

Is it a tariff when they pay you? So many ways both with home and public charges to get the headline costs to half, third, quarter or less, something one cannot do with fossil fuels. Not rocket science, just a little planning with great financial rewards. More money to spend on other things.

They should do it again starting at a Gridserve or Applegreen charger
