  1. Past hour
  2. Just to conclude. I finally got this thing largely finished, enjoyed it for roughly a week and then it stalled at a roundabout, and when eventually started it sounded like a bag of spanners. Timing has jumped. It will run but it pains me doing so. My best mate has expressed an interest in the rescue of the thing, so rebuild could be on the cards hopefully. New thread for new car is here:
  3. Bought it from Radcliffe! Started life supplied by Robert Eardley & Sons and went to someone in Sandbach who owned it for quite some time. I'm keeper number 5, but the last two have spent decent money before parting ways - not sure how to look at that yet. Main thing is that it's tidier than my last one. I was going to put my own plate on, but I might keep the knob reg for a laugh.
  4. Looks like ECS tuning one but with a different sticker like here
  5. The location of the tank and pump depends on exactly which model. On the 280tsi it is behind the front right wheel arch but I think in most other models it is front left wheel arch. Where is your filler cap, as this shows which side? One can get an infection of algae “bug” which clogs the filter gauze etc (there is a gauze filter on the pump inlet) and /or there could be a leak somewhere. For the bug problem, having cleaned it out I would put a small amount of Milton in the fluid from time to time, to prevent it from re-growing
  6. You could just buy this silver estate too, make a matching set https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1RnXgdzneJ/?
  7. @mattbacon Who ever told you the DSG you had was sealed for life? Wet Clutch 6 speed DQ250 DSG,s were never sealed for life. They were @40,000 miles. DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG,s had no Service Schedule. They were and are not sealed for life. A 7 speed DQ381 DSG schedule is at 80,000 miles and Skoda / Skoda Dealers say the Oil filter needs changed at the 2nd Service. A total nonsense really. Best you decide if you want to have done sooner and the filter changed at each service.
  8. I think 'blinkered' is the operative word...
  9. You must've gone a long way for that... Its a Deeside registration! Not sure I could drive a Knob registration... 🤣
  10. Tesla sells electricity @ 28 pence in the Northern UK far above the North / Manchester. during the cheapest hours at some hubs but then there are only 8 hubs north of Edinburgh and those can be along way away from where people live and drive. Yes regional tariffs that have lower tariffs for near to where the electricity can and is generated might be simply clever. That is certainly not the Midlands or the South West of England. As far as Scotland many Tens of Millions has been thrown at there being Public Chargers that are now out of service or no longer fit for purpose & now the regions are leaving Charge Place Scotland and some are away from Swarco. But that is another story. The point i made was it is a nonsense to keep on about peoples ability to get CHEAP HOME CHARGING or BUDDY up with someone to use there property to charge. That might well suit some. But it is THE SOCIAL DIVIDE. As is Business / Commercial users.

  12. You have chosen well. Just the wrong colour 🤣
  13. My Mk1 1.2 decided to expire the other week there, and I was left car-less. As many of you will know, this cannot do, nor can owning something made after 2007. Therefore, I've been out and bought this. Things it isn't: newer than my last one, in a colour I'd have liked, and most critically, it isn't functional either. Things it is: better specification, has a longer MOT, didn't cost the earth, and has had a recent cambelt. Oh yeah, and it has knob in the number plate. A belt? I hear you ask, one would presume I'd bought another 1.2 12v, but no, I've taken it one step further. Yaaaaaaarp she's a 1.4 16v, baby! 100 raging ponies... allegedly. Goes like hell when it works at least. Critically, it's a really clean old thing, with 87k on the clock. Dead posh too, with heated seats, heated mirrors, heated washer jets, ice cold air conditioning, alloy wheels, and parking sensors! It's not far off being quite the minter I don't think, bodywork needs minimal attention. Interior needs a couple of trim pieces, etc. that I can take from the red one without affecting its functionality (more on this soon) but it's no more than a couple days' work. As alluded to previously though, I'm having a couple of teething issues with this car. Yes, it was cheap (always important), but I didn't quite expect for it to lose all throttle response on the M6 and it has done a couple of times since then too. It's currently with my mechanic who is struggling to replicate the faults, but I've handed him a printout of the fault codes. It's either an earthing issue, an unknown vacuum leak (checked servo line and it's fine), or an ECU fault. If all else fails, either one of these three godawful possibilities can be sorted fairly cheaply as my mate down in Dumfries & Galloway as quite a few parts for these BBZ engines. I've not got the modification bug for this one like I did for the red one, and I'm okay with that. Primarily I just want to make sure it's as good as it can be without deviating from originality if I can help it. Exciting stuff, I know.

  15. Public charging is a business of course. Tesla can sell electricity for charging at 23p per kwh here in the West Midland and also cheap in the South West of England. Are you asking for more subsidies for Northern Scotland from Edinburgh and or Westminster ?
  16. Obviously far too early to worry about this in our 2025 TDI DSG L&K, but I'm wondering what the current thinking on transmission oil changes is. On our 2012 170 TDI DSG, I think we were initially told the transmission was "sealed for life" but after a while we took to getting a full transmission oil change every 3 years at the main dealer service. Whether that had anything to do with it, the DSG operated flawlessly throughout our ownership and continues to do so for its new owner (I still do business with the repair shop owner who sold it on, so I keep up with how it's going..). So what's the expectation for the MkIV? And for anyone who had a MkIII before their IV, did you change the transmission oil at any specific intervals? best, M.

  18. Very nice 👍🏻 i like it a lot 😊 would you be kind enough to share link to it?
  19. Hi! My car just spat out this errorcode, so I'm guessing that sensor is ready to be switched out. Where is it located? Can someone help me?
  20. Pick it up tomorrow, pics will follow...
  21. @lol-lol So we have those that can Home charge, those that can maybe use others charging locations & the many many millions of drivers that might never ever be able to have either. There is no getting away from facts and real world. Location location and people way they live and where they live.
  22. Hello, did you have to load VCNR first before flashing because your mib 2 has the code P0460L and I read on a Russian forum that it is necessary to read VCRN before flashing the bin file if the first number is 0
  23. I get the update message regularly on the radio display, selecting an option appears to do nothing
  24. Or accessing the hyper cheap public charging like Tesla do, or BE.EV with a cheapish contract or getting that pavement channel done using the now £500 grant. Where there is a will there is a way. Or buddy up with someone with a drive and split the gains which people do and I expect the price differential to increase when vat goes to zero for home electricity and ut seems the oil and fas wars are going on for many months yet. Oil companies profits double to almost $50B last quarter.
  25. The engine cover, battery cover, fuse box cover, and coolant reservoir cover come from the USA.

  28. The key is of course, home charging.
  29. Another good video from @domhnall . A typical use of someone doing many miles for work and personal and with a home charger & subscriptions for cheaper public charging. Plenty in his street also with BEV,s and likely home chargers. Now we just need a comparison of someone doing these kind of miles and only public charging. Maybe the same as driving a Fabia petrol car. But quite possibly more. But then there is the BIK for those using the BEV for business miles.

  31. Makes you wonder what sort of clown production planner demands that any labels end up being placed in that zone - I've noticed a label being there in the past and thought that that was a really really dumb place to put a sticker. My main, so far, problem with alloys is, where I get mine powder coated mainly to reduce leaks and improve appearance, they hang the cleaned/stripped wheels up using a steel hook through the valve hole - so no powder coating etc ever gets on a small area "across" the valve sealing point, but salty winter road does and then after only 2 or 3 years, I'm back to having a slow tyre leak! I handed in 5 wheels but only 4 had tyres on them, so when I found that on the 5th wheel I sorted it out before getting a tyre and valve put on it. The other issue with this "specialist company" is, they powder coat the inner hub contacting face on wheels - and VW Group factory fitted alloy wheels, in my experience, never have anything on that area of new wheels, so I strip that area clean before using newly powder coated wheels.
  32. If it is the snap in plate nuts that secure the rear on the undercover - the 3 that is snapped into the "Assembly carrier" - ie the front subframe, I can give you the part number for them, I can't remember where I found the part number as the parts listings doesn't seem to list these bits, but I will have it written down somewhere as I bought a set of 3 new ones as at least one of the ones on my wife's 2015 Polo had rusted out badly and so was not gripping the screw for the undercover. The other ones on the plastic parts are just U shaped plate washers which are listed in the parts listing on line, I think that it was just Febi ones that I bought via ebay.
