  1. Not sure on the right section to put this but wanted to share my feedback. So I am a volunteer driver for the NHS, part of a Warwickshire group called 4x4 volunteers as we usually assist during snow and floods moving patients and nurses, however our services have been needed during Covid. So I was dropping a nurse off in leamington when my ‘check engine oil’ light came on... never a good thing. Luckily I was just at the nurses house which happens to be 30 seconds from the Skoda dealership. Knowing I have a service plan with Skoda and having no other options I got to the dealership and checked the oil (dipstick was showing just on the bottom), again never a good thing... So I went in as as its a Sunday there was only 2 salesmen working, with no access to the service stock room. However after explaining my predicament the sales man noticed oil sat on a self ‘advertising’ the oil and we checked that it was right for my car and after sussing out it is absolutely the right oil, he gave it to me free of charge and helped me fill my car and then off I went. This may have been just a nice good will gesture from the salesman, however this is exactly the kind of service that makes you go back... so next time I want a new Skoda I’ll be heading to leamington as it thoroughly impressed me... albeit a small ish gesture! Anyway.. thought I’d share!
  2. FIA, I want to protest the Mercedes team for making it rain and causing our leading driver to crash.
  3. I had problems with 3 door lock. Could not figure our what was wrong with them as they worked intermittently. First 2 I replaced from ebay. On the third one i ended cleaning the small EM within the lock and it worked ever since. It is necessary to clean the collector where the brushes slide on. Specially the small gap which separate the collector poles.
  4. It sounds like you ordered a month after I did, so I would expect it to be delivered about a month after mine, we both got held up by the same thing. The factory reopened at the end of April. I ordered on the 8th Feb, it was built mid May and I picked it up on 10th July. I would hold out for the car you ordered, if for no other reason than the reversing camera,
  5. Could there be a link up into the forum software to have a "Tree" icon next to your username perhaps? Like next to the "Freedom" moniker.

I'm 68, have a clean licence, no health issues and almost 50 years NCB. I shop around for insurance every year and the Little Red Telephone continues to be competitive, but I would have to move away from Brum to get the premium below £400.
  7. Forget the registration. Focus on the spec. Hang on for the spec you ordered or you’ll likely regret taking 2nd best. I know I would. Push for confirmation of build and delivery dates.

Hi, I'm 73 next month with a clean licence and no health issues. I checked comparison sites a few years ago and LG was best for me; if my insurance goes up by £60 per year I don't worry because everything costs more each year. I don't even bother switching anything because how can all companies be cheaper than each other; the savings shown are only estimates anyway; I've got decent cover with LV and could reduce it further if I took out a less comprehensive cover with them; our Yeti also has gap insurance over three years meaning if it gets written off its still valued at £14,000. Everybody's insurance costs more than it should because of our our rubbish laws where criminals are treated better than victims so decent hard working law abiding people support those driving entirely without insurance; driving licence; MOT and being crackheads. Insurance cover is only important when a claim is made and until then those who opted for cheapest possible insurance just might wish they had paid more for better cover? We have a good lady pensioner living next door who enjoys many foreign holidays and playing golf all over the place; she was planning another cruise for 3 weeks on the Queen Mary. A couple of years ago she fell out with npower because she was paying a great deal more for her electricity than her neighbour (Me) was saying her neighbour has a workshop full of big machinery so it wasn't fair she had to pay so much? We're friendly with her and she told us about what she had said to npower; this lady has her bungalow lit up like Blackpool illuminations; shortly after an npower engineer was in my workshop wanting to install a smart meter but he couldn't because British Gas had installed a new gas smart gas meter hence he couldn't interfere with their installation; I explained my neighbour had fallen out with npower and hoped he hadn't tripped over the 30KW supply cable I had hooked up to the street lamp? I sent this neighbour details of how much a single 60W bulb cost to run 24 hours a day compared to my big 4hp single phase saw bench which is so powerful I can put a great deal of timber through it in a few minutes then switch it off immediately when not being used this more regarding safety than electricity usage; her bungalow even has security lights switched on outside during the day; she changed electricity supplier and now I think she pays even more because she won't divulge any savings she made? I don't like paying big bills but always pay in full rather than be annoyed with constant monthly withdrawals tormenting me. When it comes to saving money I just smile at what others do to save a penny but are blind as to how they throw money away on unimportant things; we just pay the bills in full as soon as they are presented; there is more to enjoy in life than money. SOME PEOPLE ARE SO POOR ALL THEY HAVE IS MONEY? Kind regards, Colin.

Think you paying too much on insurance , mine always about £200
  10. Looks about right, parts £400, labour £300, dealership profit £295 Whichever route anyone takes ensure its coded properly, trailer assist can save lives
  11. You couldn't pay me to drive it.
  12. Get it in writing from them and explain the car WILL be going back for a FOC replacement engine when it fails! https://az749841.vo.msecnd.net/sitesengb/alv1/d300a459-5ef6-433f-a49f-65f3638efaa1/national-price-servicing-min.63862747c3e6286ede19bc446a023030.pdf
  13. The "root" is the top level on the USB stick. If the USB stick is completely empty and you copy a file directly to it , then it will end up in the "root". You should NOT end up with a folder called "HIGH12_P187-EU_202022" on the USB stick - only the 3 items mentioned previously. It's not necessary to copy the 3 items individually but it won't do any harm either - just as long as they all end up on the USB stick. Note that it can take a LONG TIME to copy the "Mib" folders to the USB stick - it can take 2 hours or more.
  14. I always tell my insurer when I fill up with fuel as it only came with half a tank of (Texaco, I think) and always brim it with Tesco or Shell. Apparently "it's not necessary to declare that sir" but I'm taking no chances 😆
  15. Stupidly this morning I wasn't concentrating at the fuel station. I picked up the wrong vpower pump at the shell garage and put 20 quids worth of diesel in. I should have known something was wrong when refueling was slow. Naively I thought I had broken the filler neck when shoving the pipe in. I should have relooked at the vpower sticker on the pump. My paranoia over the evap canister got the better of me. I could have sworn I did relook at the pump. I obviously didn't see the diesel sign. What a tool. I paid for the fuel and drove four miles. I already had 80 miles worth of petrol in the car to start with. I went about my business and got back in the car about an hour later. It wouldn't start. I pushed the button to start it, and it started, then cut out, with a message on the dash saying 'please start the car manually'. I tried one more time, and it did the same again. I left it 5 minutes, went on google and I couldn't find the answer. So I had 2 more attempts, and then the penny dropped. I looked at the fuel receipt on the passenger seat. Clear as day - Shell vpower diesel. That reminds me - I need a swear box for the car. I called the AA and they sent out the Fuel Doctor. 2 hours I had to wait. He shoved a flexible metal tube down the fuel filler neck and siphoned off all the diesel. He disconnected the big pipe to the airbox, and he disconnected the fuel line to the hpfp and connected that to a tall plastic container/pump, so he could draw all the fuel out. Once all the diesel had been sucked from the fuel tank, he tipped some petrol in from a jerry can. He squirted some easy start in the air filter tube and then got in the car, pressing the start button a few times to prime the fuel pumps. I could see fuel being pushed out into the container. The fuel line was reconnected to the hpfp and he made 2 attempts to start the car. The first one immediately cut out, but the 2nd attempt ran for a few seconds before cutting out. I got in the car and tried to start it, whilst he was squirting easy start in the air filter pipe. Eventually it ran smoothly, after i'd upped the revs. The air filter pipework was put back together again, and the doctor sat in my car for a few minutes giving it some revs. There was a little black smoke coming out of the exhaust to start with, but this eventually went completely. 200 quid lighter, I got my car back and drove home without issue. I think I've been lucky. And that's what the doctor said too. I hope someone finds this info useful, because when I needed it, I couldn't find anything on the 'net relating to an idiot putting diesel in his petrol skoda. And it was all fixed with the simplest of tools. I feel like I've had my pants pulled down and been slapped.

You can't do a cheap DIY when it comes to paint or lacquer. The entire body part should be resprayed following careful preparation steps. Anything else will not blend but will stick out like a sore eye.
  17. Dull race. Good work from Stroll. Albon not bad. 2 point swing for fastest lap could prove vital...as Hamilton says, he has previously lost the title by only 1 point (although I remain convinced it was fixed by the FIA so... whatever Lewis)
  18. Or so I thought. I dropped it off at the dealership and walked home. When I got home, the dealer's rep called and said that he didn't have the cam belt in stock. Not to worry-- the mechanic says it's good for the life of the engine! My car is a oh-so-babied, Superb mk3. What? I told him to replace it anyways as it was part of the package. He said that if they needed to order one, they'd charge me additional money for 'labour' to order one. What again? I told him I wanted to speak to a manager! I told him this repair had been on the books for three weeks! They damn well better have parts! He back-pedaled and five minutes later said they located one. All is well. I picked up the car and when I popped the hood, saw the new water pump... but there was still undisturbed dust on the opposite side where the cam belt lives. I removed the cover and was face-to-face with my 70+k cam belt! I took pictures and emailed the manager. They've since apologized and are returning 200 quid, but they still say that you don't replace the cam belt as it's 'good for the life' of the engine-- or whatever that means. Can anyone confirm please?
  19. Hi all I have replaced the left gearbox mount on my Octavia and the car sound out when turning left. Thanks all for the information which was helpful. Regards Mark
  20. You would miss out on; Brown leather seats, Leaky roof, Park assist and Diamond cut Alloy wheels which get white worm. I would go for the SEL Drive, try to find one with front parking sensors fitted.
  21. Its a pressure damper. You only need to replace or repair the little pipe where the hole is.
  22. Hello everybody; I’m Dave and I’m new here. Actually I’m new to forums in general. Recently got my first Skoda: a 16 plate Octavia III combi vRS 4x4 that I’m absolutely in love with... and we all got put into lockdown right after I got her home 🤦‍♂️. So as yet I still haven’t had the chance to take her off for any of the nice long road trips I had been planning on, but hey better safe than sorry right? Besides, I’ve still been having plenty of fun just rolling her round locally. She’s quite the step up from the knackered 17 year old fiesta I’d been running previously 😂. Looking forward to taking part in some of the discussions on here, and eagerly anticipating being able to pick peoples brains for any advice and tips they have. My Octy is as standard as you like for now; but I do have plans...
  23. So the fabia now has it's first event arranged with the new set up, Standing 1/4 mile and Standing 1 mile racing at Elvington next weekend Had a think about what tyres to take the ZZR's have a slightly higher profile and dug out the ratios to double check them, i think in the standing mile i'd be hoping for 140mph The top speeds at 5000rpm Top speeds at 5400RPM where the rev limiter is set to So prep started and have now mixed up 20 litres of Water/Meth and a tunnel run yesterday
  24. Yes, that’s the way I have always set clock - nothing to do with MFD scrolling.

I pay £260 with LVE, living in North Yorkshire with 2 drivers - both in 70’s. I always do a Search for best deals on renewal and compare coverage, price and reviews of the Insurance Company with regard to claims. LVE was ‘best’ deal this year, last year was Direct Line and year before that M&S.
  26. After 49 laps F1 Drivers maybe taking Social Distancing a bit too literally with 71 seconds between Lewis and 5th place Seb in the Ferrari.

..yes we are with Admiral multi car, and around £450 for 2 cars, Yeti and MX5...but I am sure the Yeti is only around the £200 mark?..full NCB, (protected)
  28. Are there vnot 2 buttons, one either side of the speedo? Long pressing one on mine puts up the hours and mins and the other changes 'em , think its left button first!
  29. The offset should be ET45.

Not that unusual .... depends where you live and your history and if your close to meeting your maker 🙂. We have an Volvo XC90 and a Yeti L&K 2.0 ... Volvo is £269 per year, and the Yeti is £475 ... both clean licenses and no accidents .... That was from several companies ... Admiral was the most competitive.
  31. So in summary: the 10 years old car is ready to be scrapped is because the body is rusted. The electric powertrain, not needing any servicing throughout its life, works great and can continue to work after the car get some attention from body shop. In another 5 years time. 15 years is considered average lifetime of a car. I do wonder what will be EV percentage of the triplet. It would be interesting to compare it to original sales figure. I would think EV percentage would increase because it is so cheap to continue to run an EV. Whereas a timing belt replacement may be more expensive than total value of the car.

..me too paying about £200?..in fact paying less than that for 2 cars?
  33. I'm pedantic myself about things that I understand! No need to apologise! I was a pre WW 2 child and my computer knowledge has been acquired through making many mistakes rather than by tuition. Rather annoyingly my son is a teacher and an IT specialist and my grandson is doing a degree in Cybersecurity but they are in Adelaide which is rather a long commute! Can't let them know that I am a computer duffer though can I? (LOL) Stay Safe!
  34. How do you know it’s in normal range if the sensor isn’t and I’ll quote you here “may not necessarily be very accurate anyway” ?
  35. Two options. Join Freedom Upload to YouTube and insert the link
  36. I have the 1.4L TSI-- 150bhp. I know the water pump is on the opposite side of the cam belt-- the pump is run off the balance shaft (apparently). The service manager explained (during his lengthy apology) that in former engines, water pumps could leak around the cam belt, causing early failure due to it being effected by the chemicals of the fluid. I would like to know if you truly *never* need to replace the cam belt though. Seems fishy to me.
  37. I use individual on my 2.0 TDI. Steering set to sport with engine to normal. No DCC so a pull on the stick is essentially the same as putting it in full sport. I often use the paddles to drop a gear for fun or road conditions. A pedal box helps loads with the hesitant normal mode.
  38. I think he means there needs to be a little bit of free travel at the top of the pedal so that the clutch isn't being held under pressure.
  39. Had to join the forum just to say thanks to Chimaera and kevlock Repaired my luggage cover in 45 mins after two years of frustration and refusal to pay extortionate prices even on ebay . The only bits of extra instruction needed are : which end to dismantle . In my case the right end was the wrong end and the left end was the right end . : after removing outer end cover and shiny spring there are 3 press in clips holding 2nd end cover : and not to remove the fabric liner cos its a pig to reinstall . Had to use 17 turns to tension spring ---lost count 3 times. Used some teflon cycle chain lubricant on the slides to assist retraction relatively easy job with enough screwdrivers and extra hands . thanks.
  40. Hi, thanks for the replies. Yes, it's John Clark Skoda and I've spoken with the dealer who says my original should be ready around August/September time which is actually okay-ish as we have a wee Citigo and could manage with that temporarily. However, he's offered me a stock Edition for similar PCP payments plus a deal on the deposit etc. On the face of it it looks like a very good deal for a better car BUT the extra spec that the Edition comes with aren't things I'm bothered about (colour/chrome/lane assist/leather etc) but it doesn't come with the options I've ordered such as heated windscreen, spare wheel & rear camera. I think the killer is the leather as I swore I'd never have another car with leather. Ah decisions decisions...
  41. My 2009 FL came with Xenon but no autolights. Fantastic write up though.Proper top banana
  42. H+R 40mm, 20mm spacers rear and 15mm spacers front 👍🏽
  43. so thought I'd update. really nice premises very clean and professional, free Coffee/Tea, water, TV and even an xbox to keep you busy while waiting , Will is a thoroughly nice dude and spent the time to explain what he was doing and what effect that has on the car and spent a good 2.5 hours on the car getting it to where he was happy utilising multiple dyno runs ( print out shows 7 runs in total) ended up with 228bhp and 431nm. I have since driven around 250 miles an I can honesty say he's done a great job! the curve is super smooth and the pull is very linear the car drives really nice now much better than before , power when requested is almost instant, there's no hesitation, no clutch slip, the traction control light hasn't even come on (granted I've not given it the beans yet) and as an added bonus the mpg seems better too it ran 63.8mpg on the way home! and on the commute this morning normally gets high 40's but today ended at 53mpg. Overall I'm really happy with it and the job Will has done, I highly recommend him and won't hesitate taking my next car to him- I definitely wont be waiting as long next time!
  44. So I finally got my 2018 Octavia vRS tdi 4x4 remapped by Darkside Developments and I am extremely impressed with the results! Before = 192 bhp & 305 ish ft/lb torque After = 224 bhp & 355 ish ft/lb torque ECU and DSG stage 1 remaps, plus got my Haldex serviced (well needed) and yellow stuff pads fitted and it feels like a new car!
  45. So I’m fortunate to have access to a small piece of private land and did a 0-60 with launch control today with the map, see vid on link below to YouTube. Obviously with 224 bhp its not a rocket ship from standstill, more the torque and the 2nd/3rd/4th gear pulls is where the magic happens, but its still made a big difference on launch.
