  1. 2019 facelift Superb SE L manual with virtual dash, blindspot detection.
  2. I also found the Cupra estate a better design than the 7.5R estate on the exterior at least. Cupra looked as if it was designed to be an estate from the beginning, the Golf as they stuck a long boot to the hatch. On the interior though the Cupra gave the feeling of a cheaper car but my worst feature was the design of the central console, the angles and orientation were not flattering at all in my eyes. The new Cupra is also looking lovely on the outside and the interior is much improved. The Golf is a bit so and so. If the new Cupra estate shares the exact same tech (front e-lsd, torque vectoring, vehicle dynamics manager) then I might consider it over the new Golf. Oh, but I just remembered it has that idiotic badge now that it became a brand of its own
  3. These 272 folk are very much like Trump insisting that we stop counting 'cos 272 is enough to win 😁
  4. What do you do when you: 1. Have a bottle that’s too big for your cup holder 2. Family members who can help with a lockdown project 3. A 3D printer you PRINT!
  5. After years of discussion and consultations it will become mandatory. That gives the car manufacturers over a year from now to make their systems fit for purpose if it is to be a life saver.
  6. Car ordered. Thanks guys. Went petrol
  7. Touch screens in cars are a bad enough issue, very distracting and hard to use while on the move. Commen car conrols should all be physical knobs and switches so you can do what you need to do by touch alone. anything make makes you change you point of focus is not great. A basic hud which is is focus as you look ahead isn't a abad idea but only very basic info. I think in the future you'll have systems wich will point out items of note using FLIR etc but it won't be a streaming screen at short reach. It'll be imbedded into the screen
  8. Don't believe everything they say... I've heard that those who have joined these schemes have found that once the lawyers have taken their cut of the fees there could be bugger all left as a payout. Also, should the class action prove unsuccessful and the lawyers therefore not have their fees paid by VW (or the settlement be insufficient to cover legal fees) then those who signed up will find themselves liable instead. Personally I think the whole thing is rather like Ambulance Chasing for the legal teams involved and is simply being done as a money making scheme to create 'fees' - so wouldn't go near it with a bargepole... Also, it seems you are of a similar nature given you haven't identified any financial loss you have incurred personally that requires recompense...
  9. Southern Cairngorms / Angus Glens today.
  10. Thought of that (I like the last MX-5 RF quite a lot) but a weekend car is more of a trouble than joy in my eyes. Apart from the double running costs closed parking is near impossible and I wouldn't like to have it just parked outside. And as much I'd like something to throw around I'd still like to get my fix on straight line speed from time to time so it would have to be something much more powerful than an MX-5. Considered a M2 CS, but that brings the worries of owing something which attracts too much attention and is quite a statement about yourself which gets me hesitating.... I appreciate your experiences with those machines, however (I think) an M340i, C43 etc. are not full-bred sports cars and their underpinnings are more akin to the lesser models than to the top dogs you're describing, hence more affordable to maintain? In any case, it's great to read that for someone coming from the cars you describe the Superb does not feel that horrible and that a good aftermarket suspension should most of its issues, it might actually be the most sensible thing (together with a few extra supporting mods...) The other strong candidate remains the new Golf R (in estate form). That ticks the boxes of "affordable maintenance" (largely similar to the Superb apart from the new additions), "low status symbol", "low attention attraction", I'll need a test-drive to crystallize on whether it can offer the improvement I'm after
  11. You've misunderstood the purpose of it, because these engines use port injection, the warm air is to help the fuel stay atomised in suspension rather than partially condensing on the cold metal surfaces and trickling into the cylinder as a liquid which doesn't burn and blows straight out of the exhaust. It's why port injection engines use more fuel on cold starts. The issue no longer exists on modern direct injection engines because the fuel isn't injected until the air in the cylinder is partly compressed and already very hot.
  12. Nice! 2 or 3 more plastic covers and it will look like an AMG engine bay! ... Almost... Just kidding!

Had my 280 remapped today by a local VAG specialist. In one way I'm pleased, but in another way I'm a little disappointed that power output is only 344, where as I was hoping for somewhere around the 360 mark. Don't get me wrong, the car is fantastic, you can feel the extra torque in the midrange and much lower down in the rev range than before, but I've just got that feeling in the back of my mind that some easy HP has been left on the table. You regularly hear of people getting between 360 and 370 BHP from these engines with just a stage 1. In the grand scheme of things, I guess it's only 15hp that I'm missing out on, it's not going to make a world of difference. Before hand, I knew the tuner didn't chase numbers, and it's tuned for 95 ron so there's a little lost there. He's also said that boost pressure is 1.6 bar instead of 1.8 bar that some tune to as the turbo is a week link. Maybe that's a blessing and will help avoid turbo failure in the future. For those interested, HP is up from around 295 to 344, and torque is 463 Nm at 3200 rpm from around 360 Nm at 4800 rpm.
  15. I am nearing the 2 year ownership mark soon with my Sportline 272 and this car has surprised me more than any other before it. Not sure if it was the fact I had low expectations from a "heavy family Skoda" (even though I had another Skoda some years back) or if it is really that good as a package but I definitely can't make up my mind on where to go next, meaning to either a different car or a different state of tuning/performance with this one. Needless to say it has excelled at the daily family duties although I am not the most demanding user in that aspect, not much cargo carrying, no dogs, no towing, no off-roading, just the typical urban family drives and activities that I'm involved in. I've only once needed all of the boot space also, it is mostly empty. In terms of options and comfort it's packed with everything I could tick off and I only now appreciate the amount of luxuries it offers when I look at other potential purchases and I am repeatedly shocked at the features and equipment I see missing (in some cases not even available as an option). Virtual cockpit, RGB ambient lighting all around, electric seats, remote heating, electronic boot with touchless opening/closing, adaptive cruise control with lane guidance just some of the examples I appreciate every day but the list could go on for a few pages. The only cars that come close it in terms of equipment would be latest models from 5 series, A6 and E-Class if, on a full spec. Performance wise it's a car that with just a remap and an intake is hitting 60mph in 3.8" and the 1/4 mile at 12.2" and with some basic suspension mods (lightweight wheels, firmer rear arb, springs) is now able to corner decently. The DCC definitely helps in that although I crave more in that department as I've always enjoyed sharp cars. My single "issue" so to speak is that it lacks a distinct sporty character. As I said it has considerably improved since stock, and most people are hugely impressed by it when taken for a drive, but the best way to put it is that it feels much more like a capable family car/cruiser that can accelerate and corner much better than expected, rather than a true sports saloon that can also do the family stuff all-right (get the difference?) So apparently there's two ways I could go forward: a) Stick with it and continue to improve it: Next things would have to be uprated dampers or coilovers and bigger brakes and further stage 2 tuning. Estimated cost around 4-5K EUR but i still would not be able to address everything I'd like to. b) Switch to something sportier from factory which I would only touch in terms of a stage 1 remap and (maybe) springs if it sat too high although I'd rather avoid that. That "something" would have to be inherently more playful and able to handle a few hot laps (not racing) around a track in stock form without worrying how to return home and be more involving due to its drivetrain setup. For option b) the logical choices are 335i/M340i, C43 estate, Golf R / Cupra estate, (no Audi below an RS4 would be a real upgrade in terms of driving so that's ruled out) According to current market prices in Sweden I could get decent money for a 2019 car with my low mileage and equipment so it makes option B tempting. The problem is I find issues with almost all cars I've shortlisted: F30/31 335i/340i - gorgeous on the outside, pretty dated and dull on the inside, I'd honestly take the Superb's cabin with a digital cockpit any day (wife agrees to that too) G20/21 340i - Lovely car overall, not yet in the price range I'd ideally like to remain though C43 - love the exterior, interior not so much. Better than the F30 but something in that main screen and analog speedos from 2017-18 is not looking so great for an upgrade I've also got a "fear" against the premium German brands in that they attract all sorts of unwanted attention that I'd rather not be associated with. 7.5 Golf R - Essentially same car but with slightly firmer suspension, yet the overall behaviour would remain the same Cupra estate - as above Now there is a car which looks very promising: The Mk8 Golf R unveiled yesterday (in estate form, not shown yet): Finally, an e-diff at the front and a proper torque vectoring system at the rear (forget Drift modes) similar to a Focus RS and A45S sounds is if it has all the ingredients to be a great driver's car apart from just a great all-rounder (but rather average in driving) that the 7.5was. Not crazy about its looks but if it is as good as I expect it I could probably live with it, will go on order later this month. And after all that, I go back to my car to drive off and still think it's a really beautiful design that is also doing stuff I would not think it would be possible to do/get from in a Skoda a few years back. Let your views roll...
  16. Bought my car in Feb this year and purchased a service plan in the showroom. Booked its 1st service on 14 September before realising a day or two later that it wasn't required until December. Out of interest as I hadn't received any paperwork for the service plan, I asked the servicing dealership to check. Rather surprised to find out that no plan was activate on Skoda systems. Contacted the original supplying dealer and after many phone calls and long emails, I had confirmation in today's post that the plan is finally active. Good job as it's being serviced in early December. Therefore if you buy a plan ensure you receive confirmation by post (yes even in this paperless age). Secondly never underestimate how easy it is to make a simple task seem extremely complicated. This took the combined efforts of multiple Skoda and VWFS staff, who to their credit, lwaysreplied politely to my increasingly insistent queries, 7 weeks to untangle. Top tip send your complaints to email address ' [email protected] ' and it will get resolved.

  19. Car ordered. Can’t wait. 2nd kodiaq in a row. Never before have I bought the same car twice!!
  20. Good question and I'm not sure, what I do is generate the log and then email it to my email account. If my memory serves me right there's an icon (looks like an envelope) top right of the screen for this purpose.
  21. Q should be fine based on this list: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting
  22. Remember to take a copy of the coding of your old unit while it its still connected and to recode the new one the same. It solved my current draw problem with an aftermarket head unit on a 2006 Octavia so I am confident it will do the same for you if you bought the correct revision number. I cant recall what is the minimum revision letter to resolve the problem, Q is a lot later than F so you will probably be alright, Google will tell you, it will most likely be a Rosstech web page.
  23. I honestly think the Focus looks great both hatchback and estate. To me, the petrol automatic ST estate is a very appealing car. It's just too expensive. You need to drive them both!
  24. I had mine replaced by the local dealer. Fornthe cost (about £120) I thought it easier to get them to do it, and have a comeback of it were to fail again...
  25. Don't forget to take a backup before you start modifying. It ain't quick but could be very useful. 🤞🤞👍👍

As someone who had a mk7 GTD, it does not have the sound actuator as standard on the exhaust. It was an option as part of Sports and Sound Pack. It is positioned under the passenger side and is activated when in sports mode. All it does is make the car sound even more like a tractor IMO :P You would have to source that part, connect it to the ECU and program, pain in zee backside for the sake of a more "dieselly" exhaust note. 27. Look what the postie has just left. No time to play now.
  28. The battery voltage needs to be tested under load, I bet the voltage drops right off. Only buy these batteries from places with a high turn over as it could be old stock. The workshop manual even says to test with a decade resistor box connected across the battery. Also make sure it is actually a CR2025, which you do have in this case, but I had someone where the shop gave him the batteries, turned out although asking for 2025 he was given CR2015 which fitted and worked for a week, but then failed. It was half the thickness and obviously much less capacity from required spec.
  29. The orange just looks too fast for the diesel, every boy racer and his dog would want to take you on wherever you go The Golf on the other hand looks very understated, especially in white, but I'm relishing the thought of going back to the adapative cruise, DSG and lane assist which I had on a Superb L&K. The car will amost drive itself if you feel that way inclined. Plus the check seat material looks a lot more hard-wearing than the alcantara
  30. If you go down the BMW, Audi or Mercedes route, may i be the first person to wish you all the luck in the world. I honestly hope it goes well for you (genuinely). The other car i had looked at when changing my wife's last time was the Cupra 300 Lux estate. Think they do a 300 R ST now as well. I much preferred the interior and exterior of the Seat compared to the Golf R when i was testing them both. Might also be worth a look if you definitely change rather than modify.
  31. I’ve an orange ST five houses away from me. It’s a cracking colour 😎 Having gone from a vRS to a Golf (albeit a GTI) last year, I did notice a difference, but they are nice to have’s rather than decision makers. I liked the vRS seats, but the heated seats in the GTI are quite a step up. I do miss having a brightly coloured car Stick with the marque. Gaz
  32. Found a compatible one on ebay for £13.95 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/03-13-AUDI-A3-8P-TT-8J-GATEWAY-INTERFACE-CONTROL-MODULE-1K0-907-530-Q-1K0907530Q/274524217896?hash=item3feaeb2228:g:ZKUAAOSwfdZffd6N It will need recoding, but it's a 10 minute job if you find someone with VCDS locally.
  33. I bought a used diesel Skoda in August 2016 that was manufactured in 2012.
  34. @ablgoose Have you tried pressing the ok 'button'???? See what happens. (I'm assuming it is touchscreen). Or tried contacting the previous owner, or asked the selling garage?
  35. Not physically impossible, but not financially viable by any means.
  36. I really think you would need to buy a donor car that is running well that you can get the parts from, DSG or Engine and DSG, wiring loom, shifter, dash etc. IMO it is best to just sell or trade in your car and buy a car with DSG if your car is OK, or has your manual box got a fault?
  37. Great idea i were limited within 40k Euros and FWD costed +4k other options in far 2015 sounded more sweet for me but even now, when power difference(190ps vs 272ps) is more obvious between 2.0 TSI FWD vs AWD (mine has 220ps) i can't decide which option can be removed from the list -> https://www.drive2.ru/l/557894125152633200/ one of idea, in my stupid head, is catch FL in it's last year on the line, cause next model will lose gear stick
  38. Not quite. It was to stop water vapour in the air from freezing and blocking up the carb. One purpose here is similar, to prevent blockage of the throttle body parts by ice. The risk of freezing is much less with injection engines, but still present in high-humidity, low-temperature conditions (e.g. fog). Fuel vapourising nearby made things much worse with carbs, the latent heat (cooling) of vapourisation adding to the expansion cooling of air passing the butterfly into intake manifold. Some engines use engine coolant pumped around the TB metalwork to do the same job, instead of pre-warming the air. Had an old MPI Vx Omega with such plumbing. Another part vulnerable to freezing is the PCV valve, as it passes (and depressurises) blow-by gases which contain lots of water vapour. It contains a small electrical heater on the 1.4/16v engines to prevent such freezing from blocking it. These recirculated vapours add to the moisture in the TB airflow in older designs where the PCV re-entry point was upstream of the TB (AUA, AUB?). It could be that the pre-warming system is designed to fail in the 'all hot' position, because the converse might cause more problems, in some climates/conditions. I think both our 1.2 Fabia and my 1.4 Polo have fully wedged shut warm air feeds now, with no noticed issues though. I was a little surprised to find the original airbox thermostat still working correctly on my 'rescue car' last year (another 1.4/16v Polo). Will leave that one alone for now but try to remember to check it periodically.

If you're stationary with your foot on the brake and the engine is stopped then I don't think moving the selector from D to P will do much if anything to the actual gearbox. I'm willing to be corrected but I'd be pretty sure that all that would be happening is that the computer would get a rapid series of different instructions about what it should make the gearbox do when the engine restarts, each one of which will override the previous one, so the only wear it might cause would be to the selector. Prepares to be shot down in flames...
  40. measure even without open a bonnet ~7 euros from Ali similar devices, with voltage only, will be cheaper, i searched one with Q3.0 Fast Charge and shown values are correct https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/477834-agm-batteries-not-efb’s/?do=findComment&comment=5362969 https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/454623-what-have-you-done-to-your-superb-iii-today/page/38/?tab=comments#comment-5370984
  41. Ahhh .... You could swap yours for a 280 Estate ! ;-)
  42. Yes, expecting it shortly.
  43. It may be of help to someone if I point out that when charging the (installed) battery you shouldn't clamp the charger's negative lead to the minus battery post but instead clamp it to the mass post behind the battery itself. That's to protect the sensor placed on the battery's minus post.
  44. On Little Underbank.
  45. I did the same to mine a few months ago. It "Completes" the bay.
  46. Not to my knowledge it isn't, and I work in a sector that should know. Catlalytic converter thefts are the new alloy wheel thefts.

Couple of examples here from 15+ year old Skodas: Item 9 here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2005-453/1/103-103004/ Item 19 here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2003-225/1/103-103007/ Find it hard to imagine that more recent engines don't have equivalent separators.
  48. Just got home from Darkside after having the Software Rollback. £120 Inc VAT for the File to be Rolled Back to the Pre-Patch Software and they had it done within 90 Minutes. As mentioned the Previous Owner had the 23R7 Recall done in 2016 with VW before I got the Car so I have never known any different but I can confirm on my way Home the Golf felt instantly Smoother, More Torquey at the Bottom end of the Revs too. Early Days for me to say anything about any MPG improvements but the biggest thing for me was piece of mind as I knew how that the so called "Fix" Software put more the strain on Injectors running them at Higher Presser, EGR Failures and DPF Regens and the impact it had in the long run. Another little Job done anyway
  49. Did you get this sorted in the end? If not, I should be in Cambridge on Monday if you want me to clear the code for you. Not super close to Bedford but as close as I tend to get
