  1. Well deserved honour I suspect he won't be one of those celebrities, that we find all sort of horrendous things about somewhere in the distant future and then have to watch endless investigative tv shows about, before he is finally stripped of his knighthood.
  2. So car was originally registered July 2018. Current owner registered it in July 2019 "V5C issue date" March 2020. Not sure what that means? Surely it can't have taken 7 months to update the keeper details from July 2019? It hasn't had tax since July 2020....I guess it's been awaiting sale since then perhaps, or just taken off the road due to furlough/corona virus. EDIT: Just had this information back too: "We can only provide information on who the previous owner was, and I can see it was Enterprise Ren-a-car, therefore this vehicle has been a rental vehicle". Hmmm....a 220 BHP rental car. That'll have been run in well, and treated nicely then.......NOT. Think I'll give this particular one a miss and keep looking
  3. Hamilton Knighted in New Years Honours.
  4. Well, if you look at West End Skoda (westendskoda.com), and look under used cars, they have our old Octavia 2.0tdi 4x4 (SO65 BNE) at £8995 - its done 79k miles and has a tow-bar plus most of the SuperSkoda catalogue chucked at it. If you wanted to do an upgrade, get some steering wheel controls and you have a rocking car.
  5. Heres a quick look of new Combis RS, full review coming soon.
  6. Having driven both, I found the 2 to be quieter, more relaxed and actually more economical...
  7. Pitting of discs was reported on a car 3 MOT ago with new pads and discs the solution. I looked and plenty of meat left so the car was taken out and a few decent slows from 70 to 20 were performed. Rust gone and no issue on any subsequent MOT. The car had been sat for a while before the first MOT and it wouldn’t surprise me if sitting for 2020 would cause a similar issue.
  8. @boydeeeit was aimed at anyone who wanted to answer but thanks. We made do with the Octavia in its stiffened form for 2 years with the boy who is now 3 and a bit and a little lady who joined us in lockdown 1. The boy loved it and used to shout "faster daddy"! Not so much now with the new car but a couple of tweaks should help.
  9. I’ve changed batteries on previous cars without a wrestling (and swearing) match. I’ve also read the useful Key Fob threads in the Octavia page, but my key fob internals have a different layout. Having seen the Low Batt message a few times on the dash in recent weeks I decided to open my 3 fobs and select the best battery for my No.1 key. Expecting all 3 to last another month till departure day. So I did RTFM. Surprisingly, Fob 1 opened up without much difficulty, but no way could I get 2 and 3 to open. Brute force in the wrong place of course was going to break something (expensive). With hindsight I’m not really sure how I managed to pop No1 first time. Long story short - there’s a very special location for a narrow bladed screwdriver (or ex-screwdriver in my case) to slide up a “ramp” inside the fob and pop one end of the cover and allow it to be prised off without damage. The manual simply says “stick a screwdriver in and turn it” without providing the vital clue regarding precise location. No chance. All is revealed, literally, when you get it open.
  10. After searching here to see if anyone else had Intalled the revised Maxton design rear spoiler, I thought I put up mine as I installed it over Christmas. It's the version 2 diffuser and I think it looks amazing, fits amazing well ( which was a suprise after reading so many reviews about bad fitment ) and comes with an exhaust extension peice to move the exhaust away from the diffuser as it apparently melts them otherwise. Apparently you can fit these with the bumper on but I couldn't be bothered so took the whole bumper off instead. Took a few hours but that was really taking my time and I'm really pleased with the results. Also fitted new wheels, the reiger front splitter and I have Maxton design side skirts to install next but haven't worked out how best to fit them without drilling into the sill ? Then fit my lowering springs....... Anyway, here's some pics of the diffuser installed and just wondered what you think. Also my love the fact it hides my detachable tow bar and has a removable panel 👍
  11. So my Citigo will turn 4 years old next month. Normally by now I would have chopped it in for another new car, but due to the continuing covid carry on and economic uncertainly I've decided to hang onto it for another year or two at least. Which brings me on to the cost of getting the next service done at the main dealer. Oil and service inspection £184, Pollen filter £35, Spark plugs £99, Air con service (lol) £139 and finally MOT £39. £496 all in. Seriously? That's about a sixth of the part ex value of the car that is now out of warranty anyway. I'll be getting an oil and filter change, new plugs and the MOT done elsewhere and will probably still have change from £150. I guess enough mugs must still be happy to pay whatever and allow them to charge their extrotionate sums.
  12. I live in the hills above Matlock in Derbyshire at 760ft above sea level so back in January when I bought the Octy, I invested in a full set of Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2. I have experience of true winter tyres and I can conclude these aren't quite as good in snow as those but still offer a huge improvement on summer tyres. Plus I can keep them on all year. Today was the first true test of the tyres but I made a mistake going up the hill covered in compacted snow and ice. I forgot to switch the traction control off so it proved to be a real battle. Summer tyres would have seen me spin off on the corner altogether so still a huge improvement. No problem on fresh snow. https://youtu.be/2aZeC0q-6Dk
  13. Yes, start/stop turned off. Never liked it anyway.
  14. Have done the bearings on my old Skoda. Not sure if anything is different with this model and the 4x4 system. Any ideas? So I could do it. However in order to get some money back from the seller or may be best to do it all on the books by a professional.
  15. The confusion may be arising from the fact that some of the mk2 trim variants in the UK were named Fabia 1, Fabia 2 etc. This from wikipedia: The second generation Fabia trim levels were Classic, Ambiente, Sport and Elegance. In the UK the trim levels were called 1, 2, Sport, 3, and GreenLine (later S, SE, Elegance, and GreenLine). In India, the trim levels were Active, Classic, Ambiente and Elegance. All models sold within the EU were equipped with ABS, front passenger, driver and side airbags. Curtain airbags and ESC were available as an option. So a Fabia 1, Fabia 2 and Fabia 3 are all mk2 Fabias.
  16. I'm with you on this one, for sure. Last summer, the main dealer that supplied my Citigo carried out the service and MOT and the cost was £386 for not a lot of parts or indeed labour - oil, oil filter, brake fluid and I had the rear drums 'cleaned and adjusted'. Admittedly, the brakes were transformed after the adjustment but I came away less impressed than I should have been... It failed its MOT at the first look as both headlamp beams were too low... Then they obviously realised that I have them on the lowest setting as most of my commute is on narrow (slow) back roads so I have them set to illuminate the near road as much as possible. More worrying was when one of the after sales people came through and said there was a problem with my car as, because I'd smeared copper grease on the wheel bolts (winter/summer tyres so the wheels get swapped), 'the bolts won't tighten - they just keep turning'. I asked to speak to a higher authority and suggested at this point they fit the rear wheels as best they can, drive it out of the workshop and I'll pay for what they've done and tighten the bolts myself. In the end, they allowed me into the workshop to use the spare wheel brace in the boot and hand tighten the bolts.... Then I signed a disclaimer on the paperwork saying I'd tightened the rear wheel bolts myself. Okay, I get HSE and 'we must adhere to what the workshop manual' says' against potential liability but it gave me no faith in the technician being able to deal with anything slightly 'outside the norm'. I've used copper grease on wheels and bolts for over 40 years without an issue. As a light aircraft engineer by trade , one gets used to having to think about the job you are doing as not everything is in the manual and you certainly can't plug a computer into 95% of them to look for error codes. Most light aircraft labour rates are around £50/hr depending on where you are in the country. End result, is I won't be taking either the Citigo or my Yeti back there and in fact have spent a couple of days over the Christmas break servicing the Yeti - all in accordance with the servicing requirements from the official Skoda workshop manual. I bought the Yeti one and found the Citigo here. Strangely, for the first time in years, I wasn't asked to complete a 'how well did we do' survey after the Citigo visit.... What is concerning is the lack of adherence to the intervals for replacing parts in accordance with the intervals specified in the workshop manuals. Even though this dealer knew that Allams had changed the diesel fuel filter on the Yeti (it was in the service record that they printed off), they changed it again after 35k miles when it is due every 56k miles. I wasn't asked if I wanted it done and I assumed that I could trust these people. The result is that the dealer has lost the business of two cars as whilst I like having a full service history on relatively new cars, I don't think it makes that much difference to the trade in value when the time comes. I'll service both cars myself and have a local garage carry out the MOTs. When the time comes to change car(s) then this dealer will not be on the list. I never had an issue with Allams, by the way.
  17. 2.0 is effortless to trundle the miles in. Loads of torque available when required to overtake, just keeps pulling. I have 2016 SEL dsg. I get 53mpg or more brim to brim without thinking about it. Boot swallow up loads of gear. I love it.
  18. It will feel comfier than the Golf on 19" alloys for sure. Enjoy your new car I still enjoy driving the wife's car with the high driving position lording it over all those small hatchbacks and being as high a seating position as a Range Rover Evoque owner enjoys.
  19. Hi all, Good to see that Briskoda is still going, particularly as many forums are ghost towns now due to facebook, which for me just isn't the same. Having just moved house I had to part with my Audi S4 and have found myself back in a Mk1 Octy VRS, this is my 4th one over a period of 13 years. Managed to find a 2004, one owner from new car thats covered 109k. Needs a major detailing, looks like it has not had much TLC cosmetically but mechanically it is still fairly tight. Has an EML sadly, came on a few days into ownership. Will be diagnosing with Carly next week, runs ok however. Expect I may need to delve into the history of common issues threads! Cheers
  20. Sorry about the delay in posting the part numbers. The replacement part number for my car which has central locking is shown on the plastic wrapping, same as the part number on the original component. It is a nuisance to have to buy the whole latch and micro switch gear when there was nothing wrong with the metal parts but at least I got a bit of discount. The reason why the boot light micro switch breaks is that if you look at my earlier photo you will see the switch near the green wire has a sprung piece of metal that pushes directly down onto the micro switch whereas for the micro switch that goes wrong, the cam rotates and pushes the micro switch down but also to the side slightly. Over time this is what causes the wear. A poor design in my opinion. New latch installed and perfect operation.
  21. I have spun the front tyres on my 150PS diesel twice in 1st gear whilst pulling onto a busy roundabout when I forget I haven't got 4WD grip anymore but 60mpg is the upside and my licence is still without any points as well so all good really. Oh and it has the DSG gearbox.
  22. As shy mentioned earlier the Haldex allows seamless power delivery even on damp and slippy roads. I would say this .... Take a 220 for a test drive on a wet day and on an empty traffic island make a spirited getaway like we all do from time to time .... Then test drive a 272 / 280 and do the same test......
  23. 60.39 in a big car like that is fantastic!
  24. Thanks for that, have now downloaded the 128x128 variants and they do display the large icons now, but I have to say the quality is pretty poor. I can only think that they required resolution is probably 256x256 or even greater. Another quick search turned this site up https://media.info/radio/how-to/radio-station-logos-for-your-volkswagen-or-skoda-radio, the icons there appear to be 300x156, but have to be downloaded separately and renamed. Might look to batch edit the 128x128 files to see if I can resize them.
  25. I've just spent an absolute fortune on my car if I'm honest, over the Christmas period, 19 inch extreme alloys. New head unit and upgraded display. New body kit. Lowering springs. After heated seats for my car and a few other bit which will come in time. The Mrs ain't happy at the moment, or atleast wasn't until I bought her the m sport kit for her car 😉👍
  26. Had my 1.6 litre diesel for nearly 47000 miles and nearly 4 years and no issues with it with exception of failed fuel pressure sensor at 36K. Okay it can be a bit noisy at times but is great on fuel and spacious and solid. Easily best car Ive owned and despite always trawling the ads looking at cars, I cant see a reason to trade it in.
  27. Sorry for not answering earlier... Pls be so kind in the future to use @pab567 tag to draw my attention. All check your PMs. Happy New Year
  28. Pressures are checked monthly and topped up as and when needed
  29. If you turn on the ignition while any part of the airbag system is disconnected you'll get a warning light that can only be reset with diagnostics. If you left the ignition off it would explain why you got no warning. Disconnecting the battery will make no difference for the OP at this point.
  30. 1. Yes they are 2. Not sure what you mean. 3. No.
  31. It definitely does - "1D7 - Trailer Hitch Preparation". See screenshot of my car's specific build codes below. Even though I didn't specify for factory towbar, Oz bound mk3 Superbs come with Trailer Hitch Preparation as standard. Nonetheless, others have stated, as u have too, that the trailer hitch harness from the BCM is unlikely to have an intermediate connector. That picture/location is the C-pillar directly behind the rear seats. I have a hatch/liftback. Yes, I have a multimeter, just in case. I'm just going to go with Option 3 - I found a suitable path from the fuse dashboard, up the A-pillar, under the roof liner, front to back, and down into the C-pillar. From there, it's an easy run behind the boot trim, and into the area behind the bumper, where the TPMS module will b located. I'll piggyback of SC44 (Trailer device) fuse, which already has a 15A fuse in place.
  32. Perhaps you should price up all your tyre and damper options then contact your insurers, to check for any possible premium change or even policy cancellation. My last VRS was mapped but only after I had changed insurers, as my old insurers policy had a automatic cancellation clause for mapping. As for tyre noise, comfort and handling, after 12 years of VRS and admittedly brief, GTI ownership , all with 40 profile 18 & 19 wheels, I can say that 18" 235 45 tyres combined with Superb in DCC comfort or normal mode gives a more relaxing ride, DCC sport mode stiffens up the handling enough for positive handling on twisting roads at sensible (legal) speeds. The tyres are also quieter but that could be due more soundproofing in the Superb, the GTI tyre roar on 19s was louder than the VRS.
  33. for 17" i prefer 225/55r17 sits perfect on stock STRATOS 7J ET40 +1.5 % in diameter +10 mm in width +5 mm in height
  34. Thats bizarre as I have had both my front seats out on my 2009 Greenie and had no warning light come on! Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a little while, then seeing if the light is on still, once reconnected? It can't help and you should only need to reset the window auto function, which is simplicity itself. The audio, at least if standard, will do a self test and then resume.
  35. Got some progress to report from over the past few days! Good news: - Front coilovers are on Bad news: - Tires debeaded again (tiny tiny buckle is causing it) so will have to have it repaired, all 4 will be getting powered coated a new colour at the same time. - Adjustable droplinks aren't short enough - Need 4 tires new tires all around - Front Arches (possibly back) need rolling and arch lining cutting out A long with a list of parts that keeps getting bigger. Here's some pictures of before during and after (I also took my rear spacers off until I have messed about with the rear fitment)
  36. @MarkyG82 Was that question for me? If so, yes, it's a bit more 'sofa' like if that makes sense?! The winter tyres are obviously softer so they squirm more so that could what I feel more than anything. We've got a newborn on board now so it's very rare for me to test out the handling at the moment 😂 But I do go the long way when I go for the food shop unaccompanied!
  37. Do you find the road holding any different will the change in size either way. Gone from a lowered octavia with b6 shocks and 18s (225/40) to a passat gte stock suspension with 18s (235/45) and its so smooth but feel a little bit of unwanted body movement. Getting cross climates on next week so hope some of it is in the crap tyres that came on it.
  38. Don't know where you live, but I'm a huge fan of All Season Tyres for cars in the UK. Sure winter tyres are even better in the weather we've had recently in the Midlands, but I find All Seasons a good compromise, and save changing wheels over every six months. Continental All SeasonContact or Michelin CrossClimate + are both well recommended, if they come in the size you need. (I've only checked that I can buy them for my Sportline when the time comes.) Chris
  39. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine do the same, very occasionally, and when it happens it is totally random. I've had cars in the past of different makes and models that have done it as well and know loads of people who experience this, with all different makes of cars. A mechanic friend told me not to worry, he explained it as basically as cars are driven 99.9% of the time forward, when we brake it almost rubs the disk in a forward direction so when we brake in reverse it is almost going against the grain and can cause some squeeking. I've never worried about.
  40. I've got an SEL on 18s with the same tyre size you mention above. I swap onto 17 inch alloys for winter and the comfort difference between the two is lovely! It is perfectly comfy on 18s in my opinion but 17s make it next level! I'd imagine going from 19 to 18 would feel similar to my step down.
  41. Welcome to Briskoda If a brake is binding, it will be in both directions. Jack the car up and see if the wheel spins freely, this will tell you if a brake is binding. If you unable to do this, after a run, have a feel of the calipers. If a brake is binding, you will feel the heat. The squeak in reverse I suspect is nothing to worry about. I would try a few firm brakes in reverse to see if this clears the issue. If not, at 5000 miles, I'd be back to the dealer and let them resolve the issue. HTH
  42. 1 point
1.6 engines had the airflow thingy, 2.0s didn't - no hardware changes at all. Software/firmware same thing in this context, I think.
  43. Errors were cleared after driving the car for few minutes. Thanks
  44. CRIKEY...One Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty Nine pounds for a litre of diesel... Glad I drive a petrol !!!!
  45. Got around to finishing the rear suspension today. I bought 2x M10 70mm 8.8 rated bolts with nyloc nuts along with 4x new bolts to go into the top mounts so all bolts are brand new as the old ones are crusty and one had snapped. Originally I planned to have the adjustable cup sat under the rear springs (wound all the way down) but as I got them both in the car and back on 4 wheels it wasn't low enough. The original springs just sat on the rear plates without any cups and my replacement springs sat on the plates just as good so out come the cups to get the rear end even lower. Tomorrow's plan is to remove the rear stub axle all put some shims in to add extra negative camber for clearance as well as sort out the alignment as best as I can by eye, definitely in need of an alignment now as it looks like I have 4 wheel turning atm 😂 As soon as I've got the fronts on (waiting on a new battery for my impact driver) I will be putting machined engine raisers onto the engine mounts as well as new engine mounts. Including all nuts and bolts of course. This probably won't be until the new year now. Still got a lot planned for this car to get her ready for the show season (if we have one this year) which include: - Custom made Faulkner springs (need them to be extra stiff to avoid rubbing) - Front Mount Intercooler (haven't decided on one yet but like darksides one as well as airtecs) any recommendations would be helpful - PD150 Hybrid Turbo, not after crazy power (yet) but would like around 200-250bhp - Injectors, decat, cat back system, all supporting and required bits to get figures I'd like to achieve - Spray my VRS Bumper and VRS tail wing and get them on! - Take the dents out and spray down the sides black - Full Service and Underseal as will be due then - VRS rear beam to ditch the drums along - Cut a BIG hole in the roof and retrofit an open air unit out of a polo 6N or a Lupo A very long way to go before I finish this list off but I'll be taking you on this journey, fingers crossed I can get through this list and more (got a few other bits I'll do along the way) before summer as I'd love to do the drive to worthersee in Austria if the shows go ahead this year 🤞
  46. @NZ100 The Skoda maps are are more or less a rebrand of the VW ( parent company ) maps and are usually put on the Skoda Update portal website a few months after they've appeared on the VW website. For instance, the current Skoda maps ( titled 2020/2021 ) were actually available from VW in November, 2019. I expect it will be sometime next year when Skoda will put up the latest version ( titled 2021 ) which were released last month on the VW website. If, like me, you want the latest map and can't be bothered to wait months for Skoda to upload it here's the direct download link from the VW website for the Europe 2021 map for the Amundsen MIB2 ( aka Discover Media ). Once downloaded It needs to be extracted using 7z compatible software ( I use Winrar myself ). then just place the entire " Maps " named folder onto your formatted Skoda sd card. The file size of the extracted folder is 14.4GB so it should just fit although I haven't tried it myself as I've recently upgraded to a 32GB sd card. https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/DiscoverMedia2_EU-AS_1520_V13.7z
  47. Once again, for whoever wants them, here is my latest customised version of EU Speedcams ( August, 2020 ). They consist of EU speed cameras which I've split up into four consolidated poi categories i.e. Fixed Speedcams, Average Speedcams, Variable Speedcams and Redlight Speedcams. They come supplied with my own preferred personal choice of icons for each category which are shown below. Remember to Install them as I explained in the first post in this thread i.e. after extracting the zip file remember to place only the PersonalPOI folder and metainfo2.txt file onto your sd card ( Please Note: a usb stick will not work! ). Also, please remember to select/tick the relevant newly added poi categories and the poi audible warning alert in your infotainment menu settings after performing the update or they will not display on your map or audibly alert you. Enjoy! EU Speedcams August, 2020.zip
