  1. Pity we are all in lockdown! It would be nice to go to the Caribbean using Kharls car as an excuse and funny enough it would take 2 weeks at least to sort out 🤣 All we need to do is visit a breaker and fill a suitcase with spares ! Yeah I've overthought this
  2. On mine they are marked: Windscreen heater – right Windscreen heater – left Fuse box in engine bay fuses 14 and 12 I would probably replace both before going any further. You can check continuity on some square ones but most need pulling out and checking from the bottom
  3. Took my time in finding the one I liked the look of to replace my MIB1 with it's micro screen and ordered one that I'd seen seller/manufacturer recommended around the internet a bit for Mk3 Octy specifically and has been far better than I expected. I don't get the use out of the car to justify spending out on OEM and I like the pretty open ended possibilities that this offers and I get my bigger screen look. Octacore 4GB/64GB model on link below: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000642821453.html A bit of a rushed install as I was at home on standby when I went out to start and phone rang.... All matched up well, connected 2 supplied cables to power the inline antenna amplifier and brought all over towards centre behind screen where all would now plug into back of new unit, just enough and no more to work without stretching on RHD models. Canbus module with it works perfectly and allows full integration into all bits to play with and keep functionality for settings etc, I've retained the factory USB port as is with it an added another to glovebox as I could run 2 lines from it. Factory mic isn't utilised so has 3.5mm mic plug at back and will run one from that up to beside where factory one lives when I get a chance, inbuilt one by reviews says its just too quiet, so not even going to go there. Short clip to show some of features I have gained for £162 from those industrious folk way East. All pics and vid still have screen protector film on so makes it look a little less crisp, but does a good job for my needs and can play with Carista and VAGDPF now on the big screen finally
  4. My apologies, looks like I was completely wrong. I am really surprised that it would be such a sh1te design on a safety critical item.

What will really reduce the life of the clutch is driving swiftly getting on the throttle and off the clutch quickly on upshifts and to a lesser degree standing starts. which lets face it, after having a remap it would be rude not to do The plastic "clutch bleed block" is referred to by VAG as the "clutch torque limiter" when driving gently, slow gearchanges, slow re-engagement of clutch & accelerator on upshifts there is no ill effect, do it a little faster and the internal fluid return restrictor will only release the clutch slowly against full throttle & turbo spool up resulting in clutch slip, you barely notice it and wonder if you have imagined it but it has a cumulative affect & will kill the clutch resulting in slip on wide open throttle/full boost in the higher gears. It is there to protect the drivetrain from "dump the clutch" drag starts AKA sidestepping the clutch especially on 4wd models, but instead of limiting the engine torque it slips the clutch
  6. A few photos from last night's walk.
  7. Moon white for me, but I only can't have it because the wife said so 🤣
  8. Hello Tom As the saying goes, the only stupid question is the one that didn't get asked. And as for all the stupid answers you'll get, I think I can vouch for Brisky and say you're welcome, in advance. Gaz
  9. I've ripped out all the electronics and used a universal window switch to switch the polarity of the motor. I've only had it installed a few days but it seems to be holding up so far.
  10. She means that you can adjust the instrument cluster mpg readings to be more accurate. You would do a full to empty fuel tank a few times to work out actual real world fuel consumption. Then there should be an adaption to adjust it by a factor (the difference between the reported readings and the measured). Hope that helps.
  11. I got out of Edinburgh during the Met Office Black Warning "snow bomb". The X-drive is actually pretty good at most things. Except farm tracks with massive ruts which is why I've now got a RR.

If it is of consolation,, several of us have received acknowledgement from HJ stating that he is in touch with the Head of PR & Press who have responded already requesting details of the affected vehicles.VIN etc so we appear to be achieving more than we have as individuals or our respective dealerships have. We keep our fingers crossed and remain objective.
  13. I had a BMW 335d, that IMHO is one of the great engines in the world. 313hp and an achievable real world 42mpg (plus no adblue). If you want a mix of power and economy I couldn't recommend it more highly. Mine was pretty much faultless for 3yr (other than diamond cut wheels rotting) I don't know your budget but the 335d isn't crazy oney used. However, yep lots of short journey will kill any DPF equipped diesel.
  14. Doesn't matter who little u feather the brakes, the start-stop cuts the engine before ur stopped. It's very annoying.
  15. Just commenting on this. I have had 66 plate L&K Superb for 4 years now with Canton and it still sounds great. I have a new Octi 20 plate with no canton. I agree, the standard speakers are very poor IF you have previosuly used Canton or better speakers as standard. If you are coming from a car which had rubbish audio, you will find the stndard octi speakers satisfactory. if you are coming from anything else, You will be dissappointed. The Octi is for my wife who is coming from an Astra SRi, She finds the Octi great in comparison to that.
  16. Polo 9n/9n3. SEAT Ibiza MkIV. Fabia MkII. All bolt straight in.
  17. At this point I could take the front of my car off blindfolded. Might make it easier to do. Looks like a PIG to do otherwise. I noticed when I crashed it that the alternator pulley hit the frame rail and left a dent. That cant be good for the its lifespan.
  18. It cost me the equivalent to us$137 with labor. And the guys had REALLY HARD TIME removing it.
  19. I'm sure when you put it in neutral the auto hold disengages? Surely my car needs to in neutral if I'm being towed? Not that I'm anticipating that happening but surely that's a reason to keep it?
  20. I imagine your about to get a lot of replies from people that are having issues with the infotainment system and sat nav, but I believe they have mostly been resolved with the newly built cars so a factory order should be better. I have a vRS 245 DSG Estate on order with the DCC option. From the reviews the DCC is great and makes the ride on the 19's a lot smoother with the option of stiffening it up for a bit of a joy ride at times. I also got the first 2 services in for £169 so that's worth looking at. As I say mine is still on order so I can't comment on the way it drives
  21. The backroads are so bad that an accident is possible if you hit a pothole hard with forty profile tyres while cranked over.

mines currently in too see all can be reaolved other wise ive said the cars going, sick of all the different issues and its new ones each week, ill be gutted as its a beautiful car and drives lovely - when no issues are about, decided on audi if they come back and say sorry we cant fix it, and im almost sure thats gona be the reply as not been able to fix every month its been in the garage since ive had the car
  23. Hi everybody just joined the forum a few minutes ago, so thanks for allowing me on here and the future comments and advice I receive. Ok here we go, it's time for a change, I've been driving mini's and bm's for the last 15 years now, the current crop just look ugly (and expensive), I've always had a soft spot for the Octavia in particular the vRS, so one of my options is the new vRS, (preferably manual but I'm not averse to the DSG) does anybody own one yet and be able to give me some advice as to the ride, handling the way it pulls and drives, has any part of the drive train steering, suspension etc been carried over from the old one. what's the digital dash perform like, How often do they need servicing, is the service pack worth having ? and the DCC is that worth the £900+ option, and generally is it as good as it looks even with those 19' wheels. I only cover 5000 to 6000 miles per year so would be looking at a petrol version. At the moment my only other option is an xe Jag but have too many reliability issue's and depreciation is also very poor. Once again many thanks for your comments and advice.
  24. Mine had the 1.4tsi DSG, enjoyed that, first experience with auto. No issues, but any problems in the future could write the car off as they can be so expensive to repair.
  25. I've just gone from Canton in a 19 plate Octavia, to standard audio in a 21 VRS (petrol), so just adding a thought or two. I swapped cars over this week, and am prefacing this in the knowledge that a car is never the place for perfect audio, whatever you have Canton in the '19 plate Octavia was pretty good, really quite nice with acoustic recordings and with the sound set to the front of the cabin. It was noticeably less good with more complex stuff. It *did* however go loud and have lots of bass if that's your thing (not mine). Didn't spec it on the new VRS, and was expecting a huge difference in quality, but at sensible volume levels it's not as big a step down as I expected. It's definitely not as detailed in comparison, and if you want huge bass you will be very disappointed; but it is more than acceptable, certainly loud enough, and a massive leap from standard audio in the previous couple of Octavias (14 & 17 plates) I owned.
  26. Very nice! Great to see slower AC chargers there so everyone can get a charge and PHEV won't have excuse to block the rapids.
  27. If the Skoda dealers lips were moving then it was BS, if not then you imagined it. Either way the statement simply isn't true and does not even make any sense not that they would know that.
  28. Hopefully this will improve motorway charging options, not just in England.
  29. We only get 19’s in The UK.
  30. Doesn' t that also include pdi? Still daylight robbery
  31. My CBF1000 has bar risers, that's it. The only expense that some would argue is a waste of money, are the annual oil changes I do with castrol oil. Sometimes, it only does 2k a year! Part of the Citigo advantage to me, was its superb economy and low running costs. Why spend on vanity brakes? Mind you, I'm the thrifty side of tight and see it as money down the drain !!
  32. Some of the tyres quoted above have been superceeded, and are performance summer tyres (so poor or useless in frost, cold rain, slush, sleet and snow, or a salted motorway). Remember if salt has been put down, it’s too cold for a summer tyre to work well. Bridgestone Potenza are now S001, SO07, Sport https://www.bridgestone.co.uk/car-tyres Michelin Pilot range (some older designs for some tyre sizes) https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/browse-tyres/by-family/pilot Goodyear current range https://www.goodyear.eu/en_gb/consumer/tires.html Pirelli tyres currently made https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-ww/car/homepage Continental tyres https://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/car/tyres For those that like to drive hard on winding roads in cold months there are some new performance all season and winter tyres available. As an Example Pirelli has just launched a new all season (too new to be in any comparison test). Vredestein is an all season test winner so linking it as well https://www.vredestein.co.uk/car-suv-van/tyre-finder/
  33. Ditto for my 2016 mk3. It is live all the time and I use it for my dashcam so that when I park away from home I am able to leave it recording.
  34. All sorted. Getting an uprated clutch kit fitted. Not changing the flywheel at this stage, but since the cars only done 16k I'm sure the OEM is fine. I'll let you know how it goes!
  35. One of mine has a dead spider in it so either he was trapped during construction or there is a gap somewhere.
  36. The maximum pressure the tyre can take is 3.0 Bar. This will be marked on the sidewall. You want this pressure in the tyre when it is in the boot. Or at least above the loaded / Eco / High speed pressure that your normal tyres require. If / when you have to use the tyre adjust the pressure down to the same pressure as the rest of your tyres have in them. Thanks, AG Falco
  37. Humm. Let's see some more pics when you've finished.
  38. The thing with an offer is it can be turned down. Especially when the current owner is a billionair and only recently purchased the new play thing
  39. 250-300 miles electric range...as long as it's not cold and you lose 30-40% of the advertised range. Electric is the future... just not yet.
  40. I get where you're coming from on charging. If the 130 miles is the round trip, then any electric car with a 250-300 mile range would have you safely there and back to charge at home. If you're usually doing 30 miles, then the plug in hybrid versions of the cars (Skoda do some too) would be a good fit, as the shorter journeys of 30 miles would be pretty much all on battery and the engine would only be needed if you're low on juice or gone further than the battery range. The 1.4 petrol on it's own, without any battery isn't a bad engine either. On battery you're saving fuel and cold running for short trips and on petrol for longer ones. It also means you can plug in at home to get the next day journey cheap, but you don't have any charge left/away from home you're not going to be left stranded as the petrol engine will be just fine on it's own. I believe there are IV versions of the superb and octavia, which would probably be worth a test drive.

I have also just sent an email to Honest John listing all my faults with my First edition, pretty much stating the same faults which you guys have already reported.
  42. Thanks for that. Just had a quote for clutch kit supplied and fitted from Mr Clutch- £283. I've asked around a few places and that seems like the best price. Halfords Autocentre- £475. Few other local clutch mechanics-£330-370.
  43. Who writes reviews on good service generally. We all have our standards and things can go wrong at times and reviews certainly have their place but if everyone had a bad time places would never get the work. I used a dealer a while after purchasing my car for a major service purely for convienience and price. I was welcomed at the door into the brightly light (hair product advert) palatial building, by a very smart sales representative with teeth like Rylan. Escorted by said sales rep, whilst been offered a cup tea (i don't drink tea but I'm in a minority) to the service desk. A delightful lady then asked me fill in all sorts of paperwork I had no idea what I was signing, but it looked very boring whatever it was for. Handed over my keys and my car was whisked off to somewhere I could not even see a mechanic in overalls. Some 6 hours later my credit card had a dent in it, the car was washed (nice) and it all still worked as it did before. I'd have asked for the old oil in a jug and a recyled bag full of all the old filters they had changed, but the disposal costs would have been too much for my now dented credit card. So all in all it was a good experience for me at a dealer too. It now goes to an an independant. They give me a car for the day, which is a bit clapped out to be honest, but a giggle to drive as its not mine hehe. I can speak to a mechanic in oily overalls (hooray) and even go into the workshop as there are certainly no doors with "No Unauthorised Personel beyond this point" stickers. I feel much more comfortable with it that way, and they even don't offer me a cup of tea!
  44. Well, the monkey has not been modded.....much...at all
  45. Don't know if its already been said, but I've fitted EBC front pads and disks on mine and they're brilliant. I chose the slotted disks and yellow-stuff pads, but they do standard ones too. Ive had brembo in the past too, and although they're supposed to be a quality brand I would not recommend at all. I got hideous squeal from them about half way into their life and excessive vibrations (warped disks). When I actually came to replace them, the glue holding the friction material onto the pad backing plate had disintegrated so there friction material just fell off. I was very lucky that it didn't come off when I was driving. As far as the fluid, I change mine at least every two years, sooner if it looks bad (it will become darker). I used ATE last time I think.
  46. What's it got in the rear? The MP4S is a fantastic high performance tyre, but I'd only fit them all around due to the different in tyre characteristics. They will generate a lot more grip and have higher cornering abilities than most other tyres
  47. OK - as many will know, i've been on here from the days of my first Skoda Octavia vRS....circa 2008. A big detailing fan and once an OCD detailer..... but family life has been busy of late. Just getting back to it.... We treated ourselves to a new car for Christmas 2020.... so far focused on enjoying the drive, not actually washed since collection! Process (& products) in todays routine… my first wash of this car in my ownership:- Pressure wash to soak & loosen surface dirt; wheel arches flushed Snow foam treatment using Waxplanet Eight Below, 10 minute dwell then rinse Alloy clean with dedicated wheel bucke, EZ brushes and CYR wheel wash pad Chems used on wheels are Garage Therapy (GT) Wheel Shampoo, then GT Iron Oxide treatment to follow. 2nd Snowfoam layer using GT Decon Shampoo via the snowfoam lance to aid removal of old protection 2 bucket method wash with Simplewax Sudz shampoo and CYR wash pad Rinse & then Dry with Detail Freaks Absorber towel. De-tar with Autobrite Just the Tonic Decon/Fallout with GT Iron Oxide. Re-wash treated panels, rinse and dry. Some localised polishing tests with my Flex DA (Angelwax compounds used); removing some minor defects – but car still needs full polish. Car waxed with EZ Car Care Graphene Wax Protective glass wipedown with GT Quick detailer Alloy Wheel wipedown with Sonax BSD Door shuts wipedown with Sonax BSD Tyre conditioner applied using GT Tyre Serum. Next time out:- Continue polishing duties on more intricate areas – front and back bumpers + sills Interior duties…. Waiting on new interior mats on order from AutoStyle UK. …or maybe I won’t have time – will end up being a quick wash! My neighbours are used to it by now…. approx 4 hours worth spent on this beauty. Sunny Sundays are generally detailing days - really enjoyed it! Cheers, Ste.
  48. Well after 2 years we finally won our case through the motoring ombudsman against my Skoda dealer.Originally I had a strange rattle on startup .l took the car into the garage twice worried it was the cam chain tensioner.l was told they were not concerned only for the tensioner to fail a month later .l had to pay.for a new engine but paid under protest.l the took the garage on through the motoring ombudsman giving them as much evidence as l could with reference to me telling the garage what l thought the problem was and loads of articles, utube videos and VW technicle bullitens. After two years the Ombudsman have found in my favour and the garage reluctantly have had to refund me for the cost of the new engine. It was a long slog but l got there eventually.
