  1. The other problem with touchscreens is that I absolutely hate fingerprints on any screen I have to look at. Screens are for looking not touching. 'Friends' used to think it amusing to sneak up and touch my monitors etc knowing how riled I got. My collection of severed fingers grew rapidly to start with Being forced to make marks on screens is practically apostasy and these manufacturers should be treated as the heretics they are.
  2. I've moved house and now have a rather spectacular view.
  3. My Karoq has just been returned to the lease company this morning. It has been a very good car, absolutely ideal for our needs. We made the decision some time ago that our next car would be electric, so we were hoping the Enyaq would be the one, due to really liking our Karoq. Unfortunately, lead times and the ordering / launch chaos has meant that we dropped Skoda from our plans weeks ago. So the Karoq replacement will be an ID.4, picking up tomorrow. However, we still have our Citigo and the electric vehicle section on here is very interesting, so I'll be hanging about - just no longer a Skoda 'pure-blood'
  4. Haptics like that only tell you what you're already pressing, which is no good if you're trying to find something without looking and avoiding actually pressing that control. There is a reason why even fighter jets still have physical controls. They once trialled flight sticks that didn't move, they just read the degree of force being applied to the stick and translated that to a scale of output... but it was found that pilots needed the feedback from actual movement in order to make sense of what was going on.
  5. Grrrrr. I was hoping to benefit from the grant when purchasing a Model Y. Ah well, this is expected. Hopefully that money goes towards rapid charging infrastructure.
  6. Most of my car pictures seem to always be outside my home (After cleaning)

You wouldn't catch me near an Apple product.. let alone an Apple car. Overpriced tech for those with money to burn IMHO.
  9. Hi, I have veiwed the many threads in reletion to which Skoda has TV and how to retrofit etc, however there doesnt seem to be anything specific to the Mk3 L&K Superb? I have just bought a 66 model registered registered in November 2016. If I am correct, this model does not come with TV tuner as standard? Only models ordered befor the end of April 2016 gets it, right? Mine did not get supplied with the optional extra of a TV tuner, but has got the Columbus head unit. My question is, can an aftermarket tuner off the likes of Ebay etc be fitted relatively easily, and do they work OK? I do quite a bit of "waiting" in my car, and a TV would be nice! Also if anyone has done this before, it would be good to hear from you with details of what to buy and how to fit! Cheeky I know 😉 Thankyou in advance, Bobby
  10. Just so you are away the 1.2tsi is belt driven with a separate water pump on the opposite side of the engine run by its own belt. Enjoy your new car!

Which dealership website did you use to book your car in? I was just wondering if I tried to book mine in whether it would say there was an update required.

Once a lead acid battery has been completely discharged, or held at a low state of charge over a relatively long period, it can suffer damage. You may be lucky and find that after charging, the battery is ok, but very often, the damage done by the deep discharge will cause the battery to fail. Personally, I take the batteries out of the cars and give them a day on the smart charger not less often than once a fortnight.
  14. @ordsI was going to say the same. Usually servicing a car is a good idea, but maybe @automass should leave his car unserviced.
  15. Seems to be a repeat of an earlier thread.

I was about to say it must be something to do with Norfolk roads but then spotted someone in Yorkshire has the same issue...! Been using the system today and worked fine, hey ho! If it's that sensitive to knocks, my job (going onto building sites) isn't going to be good for it
  17. My car has led a sheltered life, 6000 miles in 3 years, always garaged (internal so its not only dry but temperature doesnt vary much night/day, never below 10 deg as well). Usually only take it out on dry sunny days and avoid taking it out in wet or bad weather. We use the Fabia on rainy, wintry days as well as for short trips. So its at home and in the garage safely tucked up for up to a month at a time, with the parking brake always off. Despite this Briskoda induced OCD , it appears the rear discs are indeed made out of swiss cheese. In particular the passenger side has become quite pitted on the outside, at last service Skoda reported that the inside face was far worse "mainly in one place where the pad had clamped the disc when parked" Confirmed by their health check video clearly showing it. Hmmm. Disappointed but not unexpected judging by this forums testimony. The front discs are nice and shiny , as is the rest of the car underneath, the suspension etc. So, frustrated that nobody here is man enough to try, today I decided to be the forum pioneer/guinea pig and use the EPB as an emergency brake to see what happens. First, I checked YouTube to see if someone had already tried this and what to expect. Found an american video with a Honda Civic, where the EPB pulls the car sharply up making lots of loud alarming farting/grinding noises. Another was a Topgear video in Golf R (closer to a Superb), no farting/grinding was evident but a sharp pull up. Handbrake Turn with Electronic Parking Brake So I set off down our estate, got up to 20mph , onto a straight quiet deserted bit, checked it was safe to proceed, EPB on, loud farting type noise from rear for a fraction of a second and sharp pull up, took no more than 2 seconds. Judging by the way the car squatted, it was rear braked only. Quite dramatic but controlled. Tried again, this time at 30mph, same again, fart and sharp pullup, though the car evidently travelled that bit further and took a bit longer. I tried it a third time, same. Nor sure what causes the fart, might be ABS, but its quite brief followed by a smooth but sharp deceleration. Be prepared! Anyway, I can confirm it definitely helps to clean up the rear discs, although my three low speed attempts weren't enough to completely remove the pitting. I can't see the inner face to check that side. Gonna have another go at a faster speed when the car is out again and the mood takes me, but that might be another month. I will have to take the rear wheels off (for the 1st time) sometime later this year, before they become too welded to the hub. I will check the inner faces then, and if I remember, I'll report back. So if you're going in for an MOT or a service/upsell attempt, or those discs look like a scrapyard castoff, why not try it yourself, just make sure its safe to do so, straight deserted road, weather/road surface good, and brace for impact! Definitely don't try it with passengers/pets or half a ton of bricks in the boot.

New 280 is only dsg7. I like everything about my old 280 except the short gear ratios. Old 280 has dual port+direct injection and no particulate filter which I like.
  20. Owner of a 1.0 e-tec DSG hatch since six days, only 400 km so far. I´m very satisfied with the performance and especially the smooth turn off/on, barely noticable. Previous car was a 2016 mark 3, with 1,5 TSI DSG and the DSG transmission is much better in this, no jumping at start at all. I have not experienced all the problems with infotainment in the forum (yet), had some problem to get it to remember all my settings. Seems to work now.
  21. Yes forgot about those! Multilink rear and 312mm/272mm brakes. The DMF on the manual can be an issue as it is on the VW Golfs but plenty of aftermarket improvements in that area if the clutch did start to go.
  22. Yes, pre-18 navigation units (does not apply to units without navigation) have that off-road info if you enable those channels.
  23. RR is in getting a couple of things looked at and I passed the BMW garage on the way in. They have 2 new M4s out front. Dark blue and Black. Sorry it ain't any prettier in the metal. Looks fine, a little bland even, from the side but that front grill is a horror show.
  24. I've also only had my VRS 230 a couple of weeks. I received a Owners Manual, but no service book. When I asked regarding the Service book, I was told that "It's all electronic now". Now this may be great if I take my car to VAG for servicing and all the work required, but I don't intend on doing that. How can I get hold of the service record? How would VAG know when my car's been serviced elsewhere? I've subsequently bought a blank Service Book from fleaBay just so I can keep the records up to date with garage stamps.
  25. The PICG has been reduced again and is now only available on cars £35k or less. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/plug-in-car-van-and-truck-grant-to-be-targeted-at-more-affordable-models-to-allow-more-people-to-make-the-switch?fbclid=IwAR2uRO2ny7uTXcYtqjNiiZ09Q-bjWvZp7DWbEs-YfWjwLEAvsj1gVgK8nJ0
  26. Hi, My name is Nikolaj and I have purchased an October 2017 Superb MK3 1.4 Tsi 150 Dsg SEL Executive last week after months of research and digesting this forum. Seen all reviews in English and Russian on Youtube and now I am an excited owner of a Superb. I have a small family, only 1 child. But Her not being able to kick my wife's seat is pricelesssss. Bought the car for 14500 altogether from Arnold Clark dealership in Scotland. They have advertised only a couple of optional extras, and mainly i bought off the pictures seeing the reverse cam and a car on the maxidot, thinking its lane keep assist. After reviewing the picture of maxidot i realized it was park assist, not LKA so I was intrigued even more now. To my VERY pleasant surprise when driving it home i have found out that the car has Comfort mode, so DCC installed! Then i spotted a blind spot monitor, traffic light recognition. Things that i wouldnt mind being there would be heated screen, remote rear seat release and virtual pedal. It doesnt have Kessy but somehow I feel that i prefer the manual remote more. Im really impressed with the low frequency response of the standard stereo system, amazing. All in all, with only 23000 miles (38k km) on the clock and 9.2 inch touch screen, it being a business lease previously with a few tiny marks on alloy edges, i believe its a steal at this price. Just gotta clean and sell my 2010 Kia Ceed 😁 Looking forward at getting the VCDS cable and programming some must have features. Glad to be here.
  27. Looks great! Welcome! You're just down the road from me, too, so many we will pass one another some day!
  28. You know you have it as you can watch TV It's a separate device, I think it lives behind one of the boot panels. It should also show up as a module during a diagnostic scan, address 57 if I remember correctly.
  29. Looking sharp! Positively brand new in terms of overall condition! I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's the benefit to using Glass polish on the windows as well as Fast Glass cleaner?
  30. Will be waiting for your reply Yes sir, ive tried different various button holding and releasing variations
  31. Mr Muscle enema required.
  32. That screen to map out the steering controls is identical to that on mine. If you did want to add DAB to it by the way then I can highly recommend the rear amplifier and splitter option. The Octavia estate has the additional glass aerial in the rear window. The signal is sent to the front and combined to boost the signal. The stock amplifier filter out DAB signals and only boosts FM/AM. You can swap out the amplifier for a DAB one and run a new cable to the front. Or do as I have and swap for a passive and fit a splitter/amplifier behind the stereo. I used the kit Alpine KAE-DAB1G6 (Alpine KAE-DAB1G7 is for Golf 7 and Octavia MK3 I think). This option also saves running any new cables to the front. The only hiccup I hit was that the +12v ANT connection from the stereo doesn't actually output anything. So took me a bit of head scratching wondering why the signal was so bad (the amplifier obviously wasn't getting any power). Full DAB signal and crystal clear. Only had one very short drop while stopped at a red light between some tall buildings. But no drop in sound.
  33. I have just changed my Octavia vRS with the 184 TDI for a Superb with the 190 TDI and blow me it’s much faster than the Octy!! No idea why and I didn’t see that coming at all. I love mine, it’s a bit of a shame in a way it won’t be used as much as the Octy so I won’t be taking as much advantage of the ACC and other toys as I would if I was still on my old commute but even with reduced mileage I enjoy the extra space and thought put into the design. A pay rise for whoever designed the little cargo dividers. Keep my bag upright in the boot so nothing falls out.
  34. That is a whole lot of yes! Thanks so much, looks fab
  35. Was the golf a petrol? also the 230 is petrol. Intakes (and other breathing mods) do make a difference on petrol engines. Diesel engines are massively over supplied as far as air goes so you are not going to get any gains from any intake mods.
  36. The best result of my decrunging the EGR butterfly valve aside from the dramatic increase in flexibility and fuel economy was the removal of anxiety that the uncontrolled shut down had been causing me, it felt and sounded exactly like a failing DMF. And like many anxieties I never realise just how much they were affecting me until they are taken away. I bet many owners have been stiffed for a new clutch & DMF only to find that the clonking & shaking on shut down continues.
  37. Mine is a MY16 car 4x4 which only comes as DSG6. I have had it from new.
  38. Well when I got up this Morning the Weather was shocking and I didn't I would get anywhere near the Golf today but then after some Breakfast and a Coffee the Clouds parted and it turned into a cracking Day for Detailing. As mentioned, Yesterday I collected my Alloys from the Refurbishers and got them fitted on the Car last night. I am really happy with how the Car is now looking, My hard work has paid off and condition wise the Golf is now at the stage I want it to be at for a Daily Driver. 39. Stop sharing that!! I need a set of yellow stuff for the front of mine. 😂
  40. The flow of electrons requires a circuit, so that they go from +ve to -ve. So that old it's not suitable for charging, but it is for supplying is a bit of a joke. Perhaps they relate to the max current, but as long as you're only trying to stick 5-7 amps down it it will be fine. Trying to fast charge at 20A through the lighter/12V socket would just be asking for trouble anyway. I regularly charge via the boot socket using a ctek and have no issues. I have to say, I thought there were problems with some of the MOLL batteries in some cars and that people were just replacing them with larger capacity (possibly 096) varta or similar batteries.
  41. When I had my car done I asked about the water pump and told it was on the back of the engine on a separate pulley. On my old Mk1 estate the timing belt and water pump was combined Joe
  42. Thanks for your help I will look into it as I only collected it yesterday but I am so impressed with it
  43. Overall yes I am happy with mine. I have two issues: 1) High Beam Assist. There seems to be no agreement as to whether or not this can be added to my SE L First Edition. It would be nice but it is not really a problem to switch the stalk when necessary. I had it on my Superb and there were times when I had to override it anyway. 2) Km on the Sat Nav. This is a known issue which Skoda are working on - allegedly! More often than not I would use Google Maps anyway. Car is lovely to drive and economical. Unfortunately due to the pandemic I have not done the miles I would usually do but before the second lockdown (?) end of October we did a long return trip from Essex to Yorkshire without any issues.
  44. Hi everyone, if you are having issues trying to get faults fixed please see my thread on KPH/MPH Page 9 identifying Honest John (Telegraph) asking for details to be sent to him at Honest Advice [[email protected]] to add to those already complaining. Thanks in advance.
  45. Looks great! Best colour too 👍
  46. My brother in law had a 00 Golf IV SDi which had astro miles on her. We put about 8 litres of petrol in the fuel tank and drove her around for 1/2 a day .. We absolutely reddened her up and down the motorway in 4th gear for about 20 miles. By the time she got to the NCT she was cooking.... This was an annual activity that we carried out ...! That Golf now resides at the farm - If you need anything engine wise just say for she is doing nothing !! To be honest your wee car probably failed due to lack of use .... A good dose of petrol and a good reddening is all she will need to pass the test. You know the old expression "Short journeys kill Diesels" . Get her built .. Get her booked .. Get her reddened and Get her passed .. !
  47. Further update... It's now been determined that in Western Europe the MIB3 infotainment systems cannot use the USB port to update the maps, although Eastern European owners can. This is because the function has been disabled - officially because we have online updates for whichever country we are in. (Unofficially, to 'encourage' us to pay for the Infotainment Online service each year to get these updates?) This also prevents us adding radio logos to stations that do not display any - leaving a mix of stations with and without logos. Finally, web radio stations can only be accessed via the built-in eSIM if we pay for a Cubic Telecom data plan (7 Euro for 2GB/30 days, 15 Euro for 5GB/90 days, or 72 Euro for 25GB/365 days.) A work-around is to use your phone as a mobile hotspot and use its data allowance instead. (When I tried this, after months of failing to access web radio stations via the eSIM, it worked instantly.) What really annoys me is that there is no indication in the manual or other marketing literature telling me that I needed to do this! Chris
