  1. I guess Carfile don't have the overheads of a You Tube channel, TV advertising, & an excitable presenter waving a "stick of truth" & throwing suitcases & rear parcel shelves into hedges..
  2. Over the years I've never known anyone mention rear transport blocks. The front ones are there to avoiding the risk of nose crunches driving on/off loading ramps during shipping. So unless there have been changes to shipping standards I don't think you will find anything at the back. I'd certainly get the dealer to do the work and give them the opportunity to offer a free service or something as some sort of compensation for your inconvenience, and patience. At least you complained here early and got good advice. At least one historical report was from the second owner of the vehicle
  3. I drive SE number 261, recently bought it about 3 months ago!
  4. Pretty catastrophic bank holiday weather, so headed out early today....
  5. BT is great but there's no need to put it in everything. Using an app to control my pressure washer? WTF! I'm talking to you Karcher 😅
  6. Hi Noms, the steel wire hook in the spare wheel tray is used for (besides other things) removing the plastic cover on the rear tail light cluster to get to the two torx screws, there is a small hole in the cover which the tool hooks into, insert the tool and pull towards the boot lock, It will unclip from the cluster revealing the two torx screws. BTW I thought it was for removing the plastic wheel nut covers untill I saw the plastic tongs in the spare wheel tray, DOH! Cheers Terry
  7. The Cteks can be left on charge and maintain the battery as necessary. I remember when my dad used to bring his car battery in the house and connect it to a huge old battery charger when I was a kid (a few moons ago now). He'd top up the electrolyte and leave the covers off to vent. It hummed and fizzed a lot. Now we're all mollycoddled with new fangled self monitoring non-exploding technology Don't get me started on making everything bluetooth enabled...
  8. I'm still enjoying my new VRS despite all the annoyances related to the Infotainment system, which in opinion (and that of many others it seems) is badly designed, slow and unreliable. I thought I'd perhaps share my latest problem and the solution I found - in case it helps anyone else. We were out yesterday and it was all working fine, until I stopped for petrol just before we got back home. When I re-started the engine after that, I saw several unusual things: A big message in the left hand dial saying "Error: Emergency call. Please visit workshop.", which disappeared after a few seconds. A small warning sign showing the letters SOS and a phone symbol. Interestingly, when I looked this up in the PDF handbook, it didn't seem to be listed, so I could only guess what it meant A small orange warning triangle at the top of the display in front of me The Infotainment screen displaying the message "Loading settings..." for ever. After I got home I attempted to investigate these symptoms which were all consistently the same. The "Loading settings" message remained indefinitely. I also noticed, when I looked at the Skoda Connect app that it wasn't receiving data from the car so the mileage etc. was showing for an earlier trip and the car was showing as unlocked, even though I knew it was locked. I tried a soft-reset of the Infotainment but it came back exactly the same after restarting. There seem to be many reports of similar - though not identical - problems on both Skoda and VW related sites and in some cases the solutions have been drastic, involving replacing hardware. However, I did read one report that suggested that pressing the emergency call button could reset it. So, I tried this. I pressed the button and nothing happened. But I then tried resetting the Infotainment system again and this time - as soon as it had restarted - a loud voice announce that an emergency call was in progress and I could cancel it by pressing the button again, which I did. Then - and only then - the whole system seemed to sort itself out and it's all working normally again now. And the car is communicating with the Skoda connect app too. So, I thought I'd describe this in case it helps anyone else. But of course the whole experience has further dented my positive feelings for a car that I otherwise really like a lot.
  9. Here is a full review of 2021 model. Will add POV and Night POV review of 2.0 TDI - 150 HP, 4x4, DSG.
  10. Hey all! I always wanted one of these and so I'm happy to have picked up a yellow MK1 vRS today! It is certainly helping to brighten up a miserable day, weather wise. It seems generally sound, but I look forward to restoring some aspects. It's all original and unmodified, from what I can tell, and I intend to keep it that way. If there are any sage words of advice about owning a MK1, I'd welcome them. If there's a former owner or if anyone who knows this car's history, that'd be great too . I'm the 6th owner and 3rd in the last 12 months, I believe, so I'm hoping it's not littered with hidden issues!
  11. After being on my second Yeti and owning them for over 8 years, I have only just discovered a useful feature - when you remove the parcel shelf, it slots in behind the back seats!

i'm back in a fabia vRS estate ( had 3 of them now ) i forgot how much fun they are to drive not had it long it need some TLC but got skoda service history up to 2016 and it been serviced at the same place the last 5 years and in them 5 years it's only covered 20.000 miles. engine is good no oil problems still on full mark after 500 miles but its book in for timing chain and water pump at skoda as i can't seem to find it ever being changed and it's on 140.000 miles now. DSG is good on problems (but need to check to see if it's had the recall) will be when it go for it's timing chain. in general it's not in bad shape bodywork is ok need some paint work on some parts wheels need a refurb but it's 9 years old so it's going to need some work and i can upgrade part as i go so looking forward to see were i end up with the car as they have a lot of porential to be a great little car

I’ve just bought a new Octavia DSG and love it. I already know I will never buy a manual car again.
  14. I have an old RNS310 that has 64gb of music in mp3 format that works well enough in an S spec car with OEM speakers! ... anyway, shouldn't most of our attention be on the road ahead ?
  15. All check your PMs. If you dont' find download link there it means there is no newer firmware for your unit in my repository.
  16. The manufacturer of OBD11 should show some interest for us because we the Felicians don't have those fancy gauges in our smartphone as the others have. I haven't met yet a repair shop with OBD11 device ans a smartphone instead of a laptop and Vcds. I tested today mine, i will post some screenshots but you will be disappointed as i did.
  17. Then, still on the red theme, for some inexplicable reason I detest seeing the paint on the window frames. I've managed to cure those feelings of hatred by applying black velvet Fablon (sticky black plastic). I made up templates with masking tape and it's come out perfectly on the front and rear doors.
  18. Now these are the reasons why I'm made up getting my Mk3 when I had the chance to in 2016. VRS TDI with a manual gearbox Infotainment system separate from the HVAC system The buttons on both the steering wheel and the side of the infotainment screen are physical buttons £30 VED 0% finance The equivalent Mk4 now..... VRS TDI with a DSG 'box only. I don't mind autos, but I prefer manuals An all in infotainment and HVAC screen. The ease of twisting a knob to turn the fan up / temperature up whilst keeping your eyes on the road No physical buttons around the infotainment screen and touch buttons on the steering wheel. I wouldn't like the idea of having to constantly be taking my eyes off the road because I've pressed the wrong button on the steering wheel. £490 VED because with all the options I've on my car, it just tips over the £40k threshold 4.1% finance
  19. You can if the CAN Gateway is new enough and we can flash newer if needed No that’s my car Same colour palette though.
  20. I think I will 👍
  21. They cannot stop you from paying it off despite what some lying salesmen will tell you. The law allows it, if they stopped you (other than being unable to meet the requirements to pay it back) they would be in breach of the finance laws. We bought a Leon in 2013 on a PCP, paid it off within a week and kept the £2000 thanks very much. We bought a Fabia in 2018 on a PCP and kept the £2500 paying it off with the week. In between those 2 we bought a Nissan on a PCP and kept the £2500 contribution, free 3 year service plan and £1000 for being an existing Nissan owner and kept the lot.
  22. You have to hack the MIB system and of course we don't recommend you do that. It is an FeC (or a Feature Enabled Code) - which will cost you about 150 odd euros to enable from your local SKODA dealer. You should also consider updating your firmware to the latest and if you press/hold MENU, go to Version and Version information, take a photo of that screen and we can advise.
  23. If you think you can drive smarter/more economically than the DSG, you can always move the lever over to manual, or even use the paddles in automatic. I always had a manual box until now. After DSG, I'll never go back to manual. The first time you sit in a traffic jam, you'll be glad for the automatic and stop/start.
  24. Sounds like a broken wire in the wiring loom between the B-pillar and the door - which will be in rubber sheath between the pillar and the door.
  25. Hey Dean. Thanks for the welcome! I must admit, I'd read quite a bit of your L&K stuff before delving into the market! It's always good to learn from those more experienced. Once I've compiled a list of issues to address, I think I'll start my own project thread too. I hope the car isn't a complete lemon (despite its colour), but gives me enough to work on with my dad to make it fun. The transmission felt super smooth for a 124k motor and the engine seems to be operating well. Let's hope it stays that way!
  26. My only question is how much other stuff in the PDI did they also miss. Clearly either PDI wasn’t completed, or someone falsified the sign off that it was completed. I would have made them do whole PDI again in case they had skipped other things.
  27. I think I’d try a bit of silicone spray first, or maybe a little smear of silicone grease. Vaseline does degrade rubber seals over time, and while the seals might not actually be real rubber it’s probably safer not to use it at all. Keep it for when your thighs chafe.
  28. Available on AliExpress pretty cheap, get a VW key, remove a badge from yours and that’s all you need to do.
  29. Genuine Kamiq rubber mats. I tried 'relatively inexpensive black non-carpet raised-edge floor coverings for small Czech Republic-manufactured pretend sports utility vehicle', but it was a bit oblique.

Android auto wireless, I initiate call from phone, not sure if I synced contacts, car just took over and nothing happened. maybe if i initiate call from car that would work, i might go check now EDIT: calling from android auto is fine, that is all i need closing this topic.
  31. Hello Patre You might jest, but I bet your Granddaughter would show you up (just don't let her have the keys). Gaz
  32. You have good shortlist of 3 (I would put Goodyear third), not familiar with Yokohama, many rate Quatrac. Maybe new Pirelli SF2 (so new, there are no reviews yet) Which is better between crossclimate+ and all season contact is going to depend on driving style, type of roads etc. Both are excellent. The temperature thing is important (and often overlooked) until 3 years ago I also assumed summer would be ok (living then on Surrey & SW London border). But my commute included about 1.5 miles of winding A road and field run off (muddy rainwater) puddles were common. The summers didn’t like it on cold mornings. All seasons gripped like road was dry so was converted after trying them. Another thing to remember is that as manufacturers introduced all seasons, they have made the summers more summer like ( Wet grip on modern summer tyres falls below +10c, and is often very low by +4c. (no reviewer ever does the review in the cold so you won’t see it commented on) Also remember that a salted road is often damp, do you want to be doing 70mph at -2c in winter with little wet grip. We now run all seasons on our second car, and main car I change to winter wheels and tyres. (Now live in SouthWest Cotswolds which have few steeper hills). When we had the snow recently I glanced at speedo and shocked myself as I was doing 45mph on snow covered winding B road with 50mph limit (snow made everything quiet, and grip from the winter tyres was brilliant). For info I have Goodyear Ultragrip 9+ One thing I have found using all 3 is how tyre noise varies with temperature, having just put summers back on, noticed on cold mornings how much more rumble there is (which disappears when temperatures above about 12c). You can actually feel how hard the summers become on winter morning, it goes like one of those solid rubber tyres you see on WW1 trucks in a museum. But you can feel the others are softer in the cold
  33. And we ain't talking about the camping variety... 668*604*1855 in a sedan format vehicle made me lol when thinking back when John Cadogan thought fitting a fridge into a 2021 kia carnival was exceptional. ps. please excuse me if its been posted here before
  34. Btw - your maps are also showing out of date. Go to the Entertainment section on Briskoda and download the latest 2021 maps from VW onto your Amundsen SD Maps card

I’ve tried and failed to find a satisfactory reason for putting your bald tyres on the front axle while your treaded tyres are on the rear axle. When the front axle is doing all the work on a FWD car. And Most of the work on an AWD car.

  37. so - interestingly two things - I swapped the battery in my wife’s fob for mine last week, and then it started happening to me! I checked the car battery and yes, the negative connection was loose. Currently changed the batteries in both fobs and refitted both the positive and negative connections. 🤞🏻 thanks for all the time replying and tips everyone. 😁
  38. Ok. well, it is good that you replied but your engine is completely different to the OP so any responses have little to no relevance when it comes to oil consumption issues I'm afraid.
  39. Hi , have the CR 140bhp DSG and it is on variabl;e but, owing to Covid doing far less miles had the engine oil and filter changed before time which would be this October coming, also had the cambelt /pump changed and this is not due till October 21. Also front pads as they would need doing in near future. As for mileage , we have moved house which means the journey we use to have 160m there and back is now only 20 miles altogether.
  40. Yep, sure enough the transport blocks are still fitted. Make me wonder what else has or hasn't been done such as checking wheel nut torque. I wonder if the anyone from Skoda would be happy to get on an aeroplane that has had the same level of service applied to the pre-flight inspection?
  41. Just offering up the lightbar to check I have the correct length mounting straps. I need to strip the lightbar down to check it over and make some changes inside so that the POLICE signs luminate.
  42. I don't know if I'm more embarrassed than angry at the moment
  43. I was going to leave this till tomorrow but I’m too excited! Phases 1 and 2 of the ambient lighting project are now complete, first job was colour palette upgrade from 10 to 30 colours and the second job was the colour changing floor lighting to match the screens, doors and dash strips. More is to come but for now I’m super duper happy 😃
  44. tackled the bigger hill at 715am. i thought... The Guardians of the Glen allowed me to reach the summit. thats the view back to the Cross. i came over from there. then i got home, proud as **** of myself. until i stopped strava, and looked at the map. the proper summit is another 100m climb over another 800m. dammit. get it the next day

bravo brate , u helped a lot. cheers
  46. A wise old sage once said to me... 'Never buy the newly released car, buy the last of the old model. All the gremlins have been dealt with!'
  47. This one for me runs the central locking (but not for the boot) plus the mirror motors and heating element.
  48. Nice looking car mate and fellow thin blue line myself. Only wish our state had some brains and followed suit. NZ Police now use Occys for cars.
