NZ spec. - some seals fitted after the car went upside down? Gaz
  2. Here is my RS with the new winter wheels and Michelin Pilot Alpin 5.
  3. Available to download here:
  4. Looks normal to me... I've added pics from the Skoda TPI (2043148/5) regarding this. Misting is fine: Big droplets aren't:
  5. Those are the right keys, as I learned after getting the wrong ones stuck in it and having to hack apart my dash to get the OEM stereo out.
  6. Another sad story and common across all VAG forums. Another diff more than likely killed by inexperience or incompetence.
  7. So I can confirm that it works using a Mac. I used the tip from freelunch and got the CleanMyDrive2 app.

Thanks for all the help, despite going a bit off topic but interesting nonetheless. I've sorted out a good deal on 4x CrossClimate+ tyres, £220 fitted at my local ATS.
  9. We have been using this tech for most of the last decade. We have about 5,000 cars on the Paris car sharing scheme with 30 kWh LMP batteries, we start to run it out in London too along with our owning/running of Source London but Paris Met Authority wanted to go a different way so we pulled the plug on the whole thing. We do some similar stuff in Singapore with the buses and cars but do not do the cars anymore and sold Source London to Total. Yes they are fine for Deep cycle and thousands of recharges, they like to be permanently or the charger keeping them up over 50C most the time and were ready to use. Record rental was 40 on one car in a day. 6 minutes was the minimum rental and then in blocks of 6 minutes. Might be all you need to go from Gare du Nord to Gare to Sud. Overheating not a problem like with Charge-gate. We work quite a lot with Super Capacitors and that is where much of new development is to work in unison with the battery and with the regen and fast resupply to the motor. Zap charging..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woMjb7kfgOU
  10. He is quite a Tesla fan ole Richard. He like Audis too mind. I think Tesla will make money from the Supercharger network and good luck to them. It did make me smile how Richard says how he welcomes non-Teslas being able to use the SC network, as long as:- They pay more than him (Tesla owner) The number of stalls they can use is strictly limited they don't cause queues Tesla change all the charging cables so everyone uses the right parking bay for the charger. (park properly plebs) No PHEV at all. (kind of agree with this)
  11. Well it is possible... Works perfectly in my MK3: Did you reboot the headunit after making the change by holding the power button for 10-20s until the boot logo was displayed?
  12. I have a sneaking suspicion it may be electric blue, just got that vibe from the last photo...
  13. Ding ding ding, we have a winner lol. At closer inspection, they hadn't clipped in right at the bottom. I'm not taking responsibility though, stupid car 🤣
  14. Indeed Ken, the reason this is a win is we stop at Tebay on almost every trip. The fact that there are potentially loads of chargers is moot, we'd stop anyway. But, always be charging as they say so if we do stop then charge up while we have coffee /cake / pie and other nice things.
  15. You don't need a Scalextric car, or even need fuel, to plan trips (back) to Scotland around a stop at Tebay North.
  16. Search "Citroen Kegresse" then.
  17. If it's on a fixed service schedule, then it will "jump" to lower mileage to service sometime in March '22.
  18. Thank you! These motors just need a bit of love and they've probably got another while out of them! I bought Pioneers for mine, in case you're looking for speakers, the reviews said they were lacking bass, but the vibrating of the entire car (can be felt through seat bases now) begs to differ!

Vredestein BV being themselves a wholly owned subsidiary of Apollo was not germane to my point that they make tyres and Camskill don't.
  20. 1100kg on a 1.2TSi manual would be OK in my opinion. I probably wouldn't on a DSG.
  21. Given up, shambles. Bought a Volvo "in stock" car - Good luck everyone I've bailed out
  22. Not that i'm aware of, but simply pressing the 'back' button on the steering wheel in this scenario (where the sat nav has taken over with it's direction prompts) will revert to the previous screen, no navigation of menus or anything is needed, just a single button press.

ATS Euromaster are owned by Michelin just as BlackCircle as previously posted.
  24. Skoda UK, hopefully its just the sensor is misaligned or there is a computer setting that sets what side the car is on... but because it knows which lane the vehicle is in, it worries me that its another software fault...

Thank you…. Starting to feel more at home in it already
  26. Today I have a loan car while my Rapid is at the garage - a Fabia III SE Drive 1.0 TSI Some comments, comparing it with a 65 plate 1.2TI estate: the 3 pot engine is flatter than a flat thing until it gets to 2000+ rpm, it's alright if you keep it wound up. rear brakes are drum rather than disk - no worries about rusty disks, but I recall the drums sticking on when parked on both the Fabia II's we had in the past. the clutch action is nice, it starts to bite quite gently with the pedal still a long way down, and gear selection is easier and lighter on the newer car. the locking does leave the boot locked when the driver is in the car and can be opened when the drivers door is opened. (get back home - I'm playing with the menus on screen, and Mrs wants to get the shopping out of the boot: "open your door, will you?") the infotainment is probably amundsen, as it has 8 buttons on the front and satnav (which is either not set up or hasn't got the maps/SD card in) but still put "N" or whatever compass direction in the top of the display. you don't need to download radio station icons and mess about with an SD card - find what you want to listen to and press a place and the screen: bingo!, or Radio2, if you want. I can't hear any noises from the infotainment screen area, but my hearing isn't as good as it was many years ago. it has Skoda connect? it has parking sensors front and rear - the front one startled me bit(!) - but no rear camera. it has a 49Ah EFB battery. It is noisier in the car on poor road surfaces, but the cover over the boot area is missing - so that probably isn't helping. it is on 215/45R16 Nexen N blue hd plus, while ours is on 15" Davanti's - the less said about those the better. the steering isn't quite right - I'm guessing somebody has kerbed it, or knocked it in some way, but the wheels look fine - It has a slight tendency to want to go slightly left on a straight flat road. That's about it really - it's quite a nice car, but the boot's not big enough (compared to the estate/combi) and I couldn't comment about long term costs keeping Skoda connect going. Regards, John H
  27. Just to add something I noticed taking it back: both electric front windows are "one touch", and will both open and close using a long press on the open or close button on the key fob.
  28. I was followed for a few miles on a unlit 'A' road last night by what I think was a Octavia though it could have been a Superb - Either way, it had some sort of set up that adjusted the beam throw. It was able to project its beam throw down the offside of me, lighting up the right hand hedgerow a good way beyond me but cancelling its self out whenever a vehicle came towards us. Curious thing was, I wasn't able (via my mirrors) to discern any visible change in his headlights when this happened and nor was there any dazzle via my mirrors...........very clever I thought.
  29. You'd better get the paint code from the boot floor sticker or there'll be some spitting and sperging, I'm readying myself for a torrent of vitriol for getting the name of the colour wrong...

  31. It once caught me too!
  32. @Joss1733 Have you not followed EV threads much concerning charging in Scotland, England / Wales or Northern Ireland? We know now what charging can cost, free to 69 pence a kWh. As to the future then nothing looks like changing very soon, it is all over the place and a free for all as far as EV Charging costs and profits or providing a service and getting public money to do so. Prices like £3.80 and as much as you want, £1,60 just to plug in and then 16, 21,23,27,28, 30, 40, 42 and up pence a kWh. Chargers with 3 pins / 3.5 kW, 7, 22 / 25, 43/50, 100 / 125, 150, 350 kW.
  33. So couple of more pics getting there now looking much nicer inside. Had an interesting one yesterday a guy flashed me out as I pulled out I pressed my hazard switch to flash and thank him and as I did heard a snap and the hazzard switch broke with the hazards stuck on lol had to drive 4 miles back home hazards flashing constantly luckily happened to have a spare switch at home.
  34. I did a quick check on mine at the weekend. If you have a mostly flat surface - like a carpark - you should be able to see that the kick upwards / edge of the main light pool lands at around 35 yards / metres / paces from the front of the car. That's where mine are and they light the road really well. This is with Bi-Xenons, an empty car and engine running. I saw this because there was a convenient step in the asphalt... I would suggest finding a convenient kerb or wall and moving until the edge of the light pool is visible and then measuring. If a basic setting might fix it, surely it's easier to find a member with VCDS / OBD 11 / VCP that could do it for beer money than buying your own?
  35. I like to think that it’s some random woman selling decent priced batteries.
  36. Reckon he'll need a photo of the screen with hardware part number, firmware number and map serial number. Mib 1 / Mib 2 / standard or high. Four combinations to resolve.
  37. try and get a like for like battery Ed, any new battery you buy will need programing anyway or you will knacker up the new one, I have a 20 plate and mine is a EFB exide battery which some days shows a standing charge of 12.2-3v, which is a bit worrying so i took it to a specialist who said its ok, it gets serviced in about 4 weeks i am going to ask the dealer to do a proper test on it.
  38. It coats the aluminium internal surfaces, providing enhanced corrosion protection by replacing the silica that is lost by the coolant as it ages. There's no need for the silica bag if you regularly change your coolant (every 5 years for example) rather than leaving it in for life. HTH
  39. That'd be cool, but I've had the battery disconnected too many times for that one.
  40. Yes, anything earlier than 0478 on SOP4.x is junk for Android Auto. There is an 0480 update which makes AA fly. Try that first then try again with your new phone.
  41. I have owned 89 for four years now, was previously owned from new by my local Skoda dealer. Still based in Oxfordshire, for the record it’s never been stolen or burnt out or lived in Reading.
  42. There has always been a debate raging regarding when cam belts need to be changed, and I think a lot of it is driven by fear and, to an extent, greed. On the V6, the milage interval is stated as 80,000 miles and in Europe, that's it - no time interval. In the UK, somehow it came into being that all VAG engines should have their cambelts done every 4 years, though there was a big suspicion that this was due to water pumps with plastic impellors on higher revving petrol engines failing due to the bonding between the plastic impellor and the metal shaft failing. Some manufacturers suggest 10 years or 120,000 miles, and to be honest, judging by the condition of the belt and tensioners that I took off that would seem perfectly reasonable to me as I could detect no wear in anything. The belts will age due to UV, but as it's pretty dark down there behind the covers, that's unlikely, and the most likely cause of failure is failing bearings on the tension or water pump casusing friction on the flat side of the belt. The cam belt change on the V6 is no picnic, and in the past, I've been quoted between £600 and £1000 for the job, and this time, all up, I reckon it cost about £230 in belts, rollers, pump, thermostat etc and that was after getting a very good deal on components when the chance arose. There are no labour charges in there, and by the time the job was done, I reckon it took me about two days, but there was an awful lot of checking and double checking going on to avoid those costly " oh **** moments". The pump timing is very important to get within spec, as many a VP44 pump has been suspected to have gone to that great scrapyard in the sky due to a botched cam belt change, as, if the static timing is too far out (as set on the elongated holes), the suspicion is that the internals of the pump have to work overtime to get the correct advance and retard and it self destructs. Still, all done now and here's to another ten years or so of happy motoring
  43. @DieselMonte will be chuffed to know that I bit the bullet and bought a set of mud flaps for the front and back. I just wrestled them onto the car. Word of warning for anyone about to attempt this, take the rear wheels off! I bought OEM from a seller on eBay who is doing them for £45 for the lot. The pictures aren't stellar but I was drowning in WD40 as was my phone as a result.
  44. Did something nice with the Fabia today in the one dry spell we had between finishing a lecture and taking the Spaniel out... So, some of you will have seen the thread about these, but if you haven't then here you go. Metal pedal covers, purchased off of eBay for less than 20 quid. Before: After: I realise the brake one may not quite be on right, but I'll argue with it tomorrow morning when there's daylight. After a few (maybe 20-30???) harsher than normal slams of the brake, it feels secure but sits a wee bit funny. More on that tomorrow with the photos of other parts being fitted etc.
  45. T'was a nice morning, as they say. Yeah it's still grubby, but it'll be getting cleaned soon with any luck.

No you don't! You may be enough of a fashion victim to think you need them, but no-one else should ever see that they don't match the dip.
  47. So its a slightly sad day today. We've sold our Superb Elegance TD140 this morning, after 15 years of enjoyable ownership and it's moved from the south of England to the North West and, fortunately, its now in the custody of a very nice young fellow Briskodian, who I'm sure will continue to look after her as I have. It was difficult to justify keeping her, especially as my heath has forced me to stop working for a few months, so what with £250 RFL, insurance of circa £140pa and the MOT of course (she needed new tyres which I bought a couple of months ago - the originals were not going to get through another MOT!) but more importantly, as she covered less than 200 miles in the last three years, it was time she was bound for a new home. It's been some time since I was engaged in the MKI forum, but I hope that her new owner will keep us up-to-date with the projects he's planning to undertake. So to all MKI owners, its au revoir and keep enjoying them. I'll still be on the MKIII forum, even as the 280 takes a break along with me!
  48. With a DSG and no E-brake or 'autohold' if stopped for more than just a short time or in adverse weather etc then do as the Highway Code says. Do not dazzle so select N and apply the Parking brake. With some VW Group cars you need to be aware that Auto hold has the brake lights on. So with a car with Auto hold check if the brake lights do show. If you have a car like that there might be times you want to put on the E-brake if sitting a while rather than having those behind sitting looking at your brake lights. PS. Hillhold Assist is different from Autohold, so stopped and just light brake and the clutches do have you with the clutches working and all good with a DQ200 dsg. Brake applied and car on a slope you have Hill hold assist operating for a couple of seconds as you come off the brake, select drive, release hand / parking brake. Stops the car moving, but this is not Autohold.
