  1. Four of my previous Audis, and a wildcard of the Hymer motorhomes I used to own. Not got any photos of the Renault 6, two Minis, Austin 1300, Renault 5 GT Turbo, Austin Metro, 2 MG Metro Turbos, two Vauxhall Corsas or AUdi S3 I used to own 😑
  2. So update on the car Changed the oils to 5w40w 502 vw spec Changed the air filter, the old one was completely black Changed the fuel filter, very dirty petrol came out After the oil and filters the car is purring like a kitten, took it for a drive and havent heard the noise atleast for now, and also now the engine runs much better no twitching in low rpms and power came back as well now it really feels like a 68hp engine and its quite a fun little car, thanks for the help guys
  3. I know where the picture is and will get it in a couple of weeks. Taken in 1977 of my 1970 MK2 Cortina 1.6 Deluxe auto. 2 tone paint, green lower and roof. White bonnet and boot and front to back between red pin stripe on body line. Silver banded steel wheels with hub caps. After front rebuild it got a 2.000 E engine and auto gearbox. When standard and bought from the garage I worked in's secretary and while I was in hospital & my dad driving it someone crashed into the rear and that was renewed with work done by my journeyman. Then after collecting it one night on the way home from pub and going for a blast it put it through a fence and took down a telegraph pole. So new front and the paint job I did. Then one night trying to jump it around a junction at the top of a steep hill I put it into a very solid wall. It finally died then and i was banned as alcohol had been taken the night before and into the morning and blood was for the police when I was getting my ear stitched back on. Me and passenger were at A&E and the 2 that were in the back were fine. Whiplash was not a thing then! My Hillman Imp before that which had been Green and my Dads car for getting to work rather than using the Caravan Tow car was resprayed in Navy Blue lower and roof and white body line to window line front to back and bonnet and engine lid top. Square number plates!

Many people get lucky that ordered after August. Strange, everything ordered August or sooner is for some reason unlucky. This is incompetence on another level. It is borderline retarded.
  6. ''AleExpress''? Sounds like an Off Licence. I think you meant AliExpress.
  7. I had a mk 3 in red too twas a 2 litre gls i swapped my fiesta xr2 for it i got the better deal haha Maybe i should change that for over the buttertubs haha 👍
  8. I'll fire this up, my Great Grampa's last car which then became my Grampa's. A Mk3 Cavalier 1.6.

Ah here lads, unless this is your racing rig, are you even really trying to make it feel more realistic? not mine
  13. Here we are. Probably worth a few quid now to someone? I've just noticed the garage name and address on the box; Ipswich. Probably somewhere known to FordFan (RIP) as that's where he was located.

  15. Another excuse to post this (1980) - self, Cortina and Dillon:
  16. Got around to something I had wanted to do since I bought my car. Replaced the front and rear seats. My car is a poverty spec 1.6 tdi and had the basic level seats. I have had a leather interior in my cars for the last 15 years and would have got it in my octavia if I were given the choice. My seats were very poor. They were in great condition but to me felt like the seats from a van. Had my eyes open for a leather interior for an Octavia but the only ones I have seen for sale have been VRS ones and I didnt want the VRS logos in my car, then I got thinking that maybe it would be a mistake to go for the leather as there are some benefits to the cloth seats. They seem to wear better (mine were 70k old and were in showroom condition, no sagging, creases or scuffs etc) They are nice and warm in winter They are nice and cool in summer There were no cloth seats from Octavias that would be a upgrade so started to think about other possible cars, Golf MK7, Audi A3. I saw a set of cloth seats from an A3 sport 5dr for sale for £80. They seemed to fit the bill but wasnt sure if they would fit the car 100%. I figured for £80 it was worth a try. Well I had a bit of a fright when examining them as the connectors had been cut off and had all different wires colours and different numbers of wires going in but I got hold of the wring diagrams for each car and mapped out what was what. When I took the seats from my octavia I cut off the connectors and rewired them into the Audi seats. This wasnt a big issue once I had learned how to read the wiring diagrams. The next question was would the rear seats fit? They looked right but there were some slight differences. I bolted them in and am glad to say they are a 99% fit. The Audi rears are probably 1cm narrower across than the octavia seats and this has left a 5mm ish gap at the edge of each back rest but you wouldnt notice it wasnt supposed to be like that. It looks factory so I was happy. The fronts with the octavia connectors went in without issue. The results are fantastic and probably the best £80 I have spent on a car. The Audi seats look much better but more importantly are much better to sit in. The foam seems much better quality and you would swear that the car has had its suspension changed. It used to feel quite crashy before but now it seems to soak up the bumps. It must be the foam is cushioning the shocks through the car. before it was like driving a van and now its like driving a luxury car. It really has made a massive and unexpected difference. The seats also have adjustable thigh support and much more contoured shape with better side bolsters so at the same time as being more comfortable are much more supportive. The car really has been totally transformed. Here's my pic of the seats fitted. They look much better in real life but the sun was setting and my crappy camera couldnt get a better shot. Seats are less than a year old and with less that 5k on them they were an absolute bargain considering the difference they have made.
  17. ....until 14 th February 2022, so I've taken the plunge to add some bhp to the Fabia 😊

Pretty sure taxi drivers buy those bespoke leather seat covers for cabs @DEL80Y?
  19. Well done. All very basic but very necessary stuff, what much of servicing, maintenance and even repairs often boil down to which is clean and lubricate. Do not forget the rest of the whole car, engines aren't that important compare to brake, steering, suspension (all three include tyres), lights, visibility and safety electrics. I'd go a bit further with the engine and check, and if required change, the spark plugs, also as appropriate (boys) clean the MAF and throttle body. Also consider things like brake fluid (definitely) and coolant - but never pyramid selling, they went out of fashion millenniums ago.
  20. The guy in Halfords tried one on the seat bolt and it fit so that's the one he's ordering in for me. The staff are actually quite friendly at the one in Ayr.
  21. I'm posting a before and after photo of a repair in case they are of any help to someone else. Backing out of a parking space in a multi-storey car park one of the columns moved a bit (come on folks, work with me here) and got intimate with my off side front wheel arch. Some deep scratches, flaking paint chips and a bit of metal distortion. Looking at it and based on repairs I've had done on other cars in the past I'm thinking there won't be any change out of £500 for that (on a good day) and I'm a bit precious about my NCD but although the car is now nearly 9 years old it's been reliable and other than that bodywork modification in pretty good nick internally and externally so I wanted to do something to put it right or at least tidy it up. Bit of a conundrum. Then I thought "SMART repair". I got an estimate of £120 from a local guy (trading under Scuffmaster) based on sending him a couple of pictures, he had the time to be able to come out and do it on the drive in a couple of days so I decided to give it a try - at least it would smarten it up and protect the metal from the elements until it was convenient to get a proper repair done - at the moment it wouldn't be convenient to be without the car for several days if it went into a body shop. When he arrived he took a proper look at the damage and, very fairly, warned me that he didn't expect to be able to get a perfect repair - it was pushing the limits for a SMART repair - but he thought "99%". The repair took just over an hour and I have to say I'm really pleased with the result. There is a slight ridge left on the edge of the arch where the metal was pushed up, which you can see in the "after" photo, but unless you know it's there most people wouldn't notice it. The colour match (Regency Green) is spot on. Hope this of some help to anyone in a similar situation in the future.
  22. Not so sure, the search function here often gives poor results imo and the "how to's" should ideally be vehicle model specific instead of being grouped across all vehicle models, would be easy to find all Fabia "how to" related stuff in this Forum for example, instead of trawling through pages which could mean nothing but happen to have the "search term" you entered in it. anyway........this is what your after https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202047381550

I haven't had a confirmation yet, but I'm hopeful. I'll follow up after the weekend 😃
  24. Multi-level marketing (AKA Pyramid Selling) will always flourish all the time there are greedy selfish amoral people happy to exploit their relationships with family and friends for financial gain, social media has given it a new lease of life. Very dissapointing to see it on here.
  25. Fredrik - sorry to hear this. If they are fed up having your car then they need to get it fixed! I do not like the implication that it is somehow your fault when the responsibility so clearly lies with Skoda. And given that they have three others, I hope they are feeding all this back to Skoda. I've had to put a camera in the garage so I can monitor the car lights and to make sure the small security light continues to flash. When you hear the fix is available, PLEASE let us know. "Errand" = "case". I think. Your case is still open.
  26. @Kobayashi great news it's sorted. Good on you for realising this limitation. Good on them for finding the issue, perhaps they used a deeper scan tool to narrow down the area that needed attention but the old fashion use of human senses and biological computer and dealing with the very unsexy and basic hands and eyes on diagnostics, is not to be demised. The difference between the first and second garage isn't just expertise, another lesson in life or perhaps a reminder of past experience(s) with garages and mechanics. With the issue being intermittent, the 1st garage, the diagnostic equipment available to you I think it was possibly OK to indulge in the thread drifts and tangents (sounds like triangular Pringles), even if you did get told off for doing so, and you kept your good humour, you survived and are now a little older and wiser. 🙂 Some of us are just older. 😄
  27. I'm really looking forward to your write up on the DVR and especially rear parking camera as I'd really like to add one too! Which parking camera did you go for?
  28. So it's not the reverse switch. It could be the the module as suggested? Must admit I don't know where that is. Though maybe you have a faulty bumper sensor? You could do with a diagnostic session with VCDS. You're too far from me to help you with that.
  29. 1st time after a traffic light in a crossroad i had to turn, i was first and after few meters the car turned-off, the others stopped behind me pushing horns etc, the car couldn't start, the green light opened for the others and as you can imagine i caused a mess in three lines. 2nd time i was in an uphill with second gear and middle to high rpm and the car turned-off suddenly, immediately pushed the brake pedal and turned the alarm, behind me were other cars which started to horn, i roll down the window making hand signals ''go-go" and everybody slander at me because they thought that i stopped (in the worst position) in purpose. 3rd time i was parked on the side of the road, turn the car on right flash steering wheel full right first gear and after one meter the car turned-off. Everybody stopped in a line and expected from me to go, i couldn't so they started to horn and i could do anything than come out and make them a sign that the car is ''out" and must wait. That was THE END of Denso iridium and since 2003 i didn't want even to hear about those spark plugs. I am not young any more and i have a family, i winter i use the small motorcycle for shopping at down-town, i don't like the ''heavy" dress for rain etc and i cannot go to my job wet or with a cold or injured. The ''adventure years" with motorcycles are over for me, now i am thinking my family-personal health-few years till pension. Yesterday night after starting the car waited 15 second and started driving, uphill for 3 floor below earth, exit the garage, one block, turn, few meters, traffic light and then the idle was ready to drop to 800 rpm. My Felicia has a caprice, does not like the 2nd cold start of the day and on the other hand i don't want to wait 3:45 to get warmed-up.

Depending on how the Fabia's MOT goes will depend on whether or not I'm making one of those...

This was exactly it for me. Nothing else comes close financially, allied to a pure driving experience. I was prepared to wait for it ‘ad infinitum’. Good outcomes are largely reliant on whether you did your homework and polished your crystal ball. That and some honest expectation management on all fronts.
  32. Good pts. Perhaps I'm over thinking. Guess the decision on the ET goes with fitment and looks then!! 😅😁 Thanks again 👍

I did wonder why you dropped that pic in the chuckle thread as well now I realise that was an accident 😂
  34. Took the blanket out of the back and into the boot to use as and when required for the dog travelling in the car. Windscreen didn't freeze today during the massive cold spell so things seem better.
  35. I know enough about them, mind you, we have some home movies kicking about on them as well. I mostly shot still images with 35mm film, anything done with motion was done on a Hi8 'handycam' which still resides somewhere in the house.
  36. I'll need to see what photos my Grampa has! I know there's also 8mm Ciné footage of when he strapped his camera onto the side of the FB (?) Victor he had.
  37. My Grampa had a Chevette when my Dad was young. In fact, my Dad mentioned it in the Fast & Modified magazine feature he was in. I'll need to scan that up.
  38. Crazy prices these days but people will rent them the running costs are low. This Asking Price more than the starting price of a Coupe might give an idea of what the Coupe with options might get to. The one ordered in that might become the Demonstrator if not bought after being in the showroom for a quarter.
  39. I use this when I want to go fast and as much as I can when I commute. The Skodiaq (if it ever comes) will be the family load lugger!
  40. Dont be too quick to dismiss, on the Autoroute des Anglais (A26 Calais to Troyes) where I get dazzled by far the most by oncoming matrix headlights at the hours I am travelling the majority of vehicles are RHD UK registered. The set up will be for oncoming vehicles to be on the right of the vehicle not the left, maybe it adapts if told or through the GPS, maybe VAG will design & test their software properly, maybe pigs will fly.
  41. I am guessing this is about 30 + years ago on my much loved Fiat Strada. Alcohol might have been taken at the Aberfeldy Raft race to have me practicing my surfing on the bonnet with my C&A specials shirt & shorts.
  42. Hiya! Some updates on the use of the XTRONS IQ90MTVL. Antenna and GPS "Puck" Placement Installing the antennas (WiFi, 4G) the GPS "Puck" under the lid of the top dashboard container works well. GPS navigation works well with no issues in finding and accessing satellites. 4G connectivity (data only) is good and works well. I think the antenna placement is good, despite my initial concerns. USB Connectors USB Connectors are also placed under the top dashboard container (cables fed though a hole drilled in the bottom of the top dashboard container) and I connect my Android phone there for Android Auto. Bluetooth and Link Connectivity Issues Bluetooth on the IQ90MTVL does not show available bluetooth devices (for example mobile phones) though phones find and connect to the IQ90MTVL. OBDII connectivity is fine after multiple retries to connect. The TPMS application talks to the TPMS caps, though does not receive data such as tyre pressure and temperature. I've yet to install another application for this. I did find under the extended settings (access code: 126) that I can select different TPMS applications/settings, and I'll try some of these before installing another application. Display and Functionality The display is gorgeous, clear, and big for the space that is available. Touchscreen is responsive and accurate, though I occasionally engage the buttons below the screen (volume up/down) when swiping thorough the applications. Using my Google account I access the some of the same apps I have on my phone. Sound and Microphone Sound is superior to what I had with the Amundsen, clearer and louder, despite not having fiddled with the equaliser. Radio is good, with clear reception using the built-in antenna (same as the Amundsen). Phone calls are clear and people hear me clearly too with minimum peripheral noise. Issues I can't connect my wife's Apple iPhone 13 to Apple CarPlay over WiFi, and it's dodgy over bluetooth too. I think I need a firmware update as I suspect the bluetooth functionality has issues. All-in-all I'm over-the-moon with the IQ90MTVL. It's better, more responsive, has more and better features, and all at a lower cost than buying a like-for-like replacement. My next step is to install the front DVR and rear parking camera. I'll share updates on this too. Sláinte! Gaff

I'm pretty sure there are still alot of working Octavia's there. Usually forums are populated with people who have issues with their car. Usually if all is good with your car, you dont go telling that on forums I've driven about 7 different octavia's and only had issues with one. It had an issue where steering wheel heating gave some errors. Dealer told me that it was waiting for steering wheel swap to fix the issue. Of course i'm hoping that i'm getting my car when most of the software bugs are fixed etc.
  47. FInally Just updated my Bolero MY21 (H22 0270) with new navigation database (yes, bolero MY21 has it). Instructions EXACTLY as I've posted above: 1) Download zip. 2) Extract to NTFS flash drive 3) Insert flash drive and keep Bolero on for some time. No need to click update or somehting similar! Just keep your head unit on! I was driving around for 1h, using wireless carplay for music and navigation as usual. After 1h I still had 19.11 (factory). After 1h I've performed "hard reset" by holding "on" button on Bolero for 20 seconds. After that I saw 20.7. (may be 20 minutes is enough, I don't now) (I'm pretty sure that process took less than 1h, but version in system info updated only after bolero reboot) That's it
