  1. Don't worry, others are laughing at it. The most important thing is not to overthink this decision, you need another car, you are short of money, buy a cheap high mileage car in good condition that's been well looked after. Dimwits avoid high mileage cars like the plague because they mistakenly believe they will be unreliable, high mileage cars have spent most of their lives clocking those miles up on the motorway network sitting in top gear. Low mileage cars from big cities are the least reliable.

You know you've reached a certain age/point when you look on an internet page, for someone the other side of the planet, who's just got a BNOS heater core, and you think 'Oooooh 😎!'. Gaz
  3. A couple from this evening..........
  4. How often do you need to move seven people all at once? I'll bet it's hardly ever, so don't buy a massive gas guzzling boat, buy an Octavia or Fabia PD100 estate.
  5. Yeah, Previa not included!
  6. Older toyotas sure, newer ones don't hold up as well, even their diesels for the last few years were BMW oil drinkers for the most part.
  7. dry ground all round today on my Long Hill jaunt. the amount of hill climb condition ive lost over the winter is staggering.. despite the running! 48mins to the top, i could do it in 40 last summer . no coffee shops at my rest stop i put the deer sigting video in the joy thread, if anyone managed to see them! i have my eye on the next challenge though, next peak to the south is another 75m odd higher than long hill, it then drops down to the "Powers the Pot" road, which leads back to Tickincor woods which has some nice trails to drop down, and then a 4-5k riverside tramp to get home should make a nice circuit.
  8. Group ride day... I really must put Wahoo back on auto-pause 😁. Total was around 15 miles honest... Still some deep stuff around, axle deep and a side step off... Fuel stop, Coffee and Carrot cake....
  9. Same thing has just happened to me, though mine was a 2010 VRS DSG. Wrote it off with what looked like minimal damage, although they said it could cost up to £7500 to repair. I bought the car on here for £8500 in 2013, and I got £6400 from the insurers, which really surprised me as I was expecting some miserly offer around £3 - £4000. I guess £2000 depreciation over 9 years isn't too bad Shame I had to find another £17k to buy the replacement 😞
  10. My advice has nothing to do with anything you said, I didn't read it, it is based entirely on twelve years experience on these fora, I have never seen a single failed MAP sensor, they are incredibly robust and simply do not fail.
  11. Changed the title on here as I feel it's a wee bit more fitting since I do a little more than swimming. I'm not a runner, nor have I had the desire to be one (sorry to the lads who do, it's just not my thing ) but I also live in quite a beautiful part of Scotland and aim to be taking more of an advantage to it by going for some decent wee walks and that again. Will probably log some stuff here on top of the swimming when... or rather if I remember.
  12. Hello everyone. Been an octy fan for a while now. Always wanted a vRS, so I treated myself with a black 2015 MK3 Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI DSG combi. Had it for a few months and love it. It is fun to drive and remains useful as a daily driver. It woke a car guy in me, so out of fun and something to do I am starting a project log. There have been a few mods already done by the previous owner: - Vogtland lowering springs (45mm front and rear), - MTM chip tunning from 184hp to 220hp, - carbon taped the front chrome grill frame, - debadged Škoda and Octavia badges. The dealer put it on 18" Xtreme replica rims in anthracite and the more I look at them the more I like how it looks. Maybe will invest in new rims down the line but its not a priority atm. So far I put the vRS on GOODYEAR Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. Not really a mod but it added to performance. They hold the road like crazy 🤙. Considering its a TDI, with the chip tunning already done, there isnt much I can do that would be reasonable to give it more power. Rather I will improve handling to optimise the 220hp it has. Also I will invest in "exterior asthetics" . I aready love how it handles and feels with the lowered suspension. Its like driving on rails. It could use more power in some corners, actually. Its very balanced. What mods I am planing to do in the next few monthd/years: - whiteline rear anti roll bar, - front strut bar, - dogbone powerflex, - H&R spacers 15mm front 20mm rear, - ATE discs, - gloss black grill frame, - gloss black emblems, - maxton gloss black front splitter, - reiger gloss black diffuser, - maxton gloss black spoiler lip. I think that list kind of concludes the "useful clean looking daily driver that can safely transport kids but is also fun on back roads" setup. Not too extreme and "in your face" but can performe, setup. Unfortunately all mods and non essential car spendings will be done when the budget allows it. Cheers 😁
  13. Are you willing to risk corrupting the modules in your car/s with a chinese knock off cable ?? potentially costing you many £K to get replaced, you won't have that worry with a genuine lead from Gendan (Ross-Tech UK supplier) and you'll be able to use it with the latest software version unlike the copies that are stuck on earlier versions, the VIN limit 3 or 10 only applies if you do any re-coding just reading fault codes doesn't count in the limit
  14. Anyway, back on some sort of topic... maybe. As Sepulchrave says, Octavia (Mk1 or Mk2 will be in your price range) either in estate or hatch guise. Or the PD100 Fabia Mk1 estate, or for more familiarity at least inside somewhat, a PD105 Mk2 Fabia estate, a pre-facelifted one will have this engine. All of these options will give you a lot more space and will fit five. Plus most engine choices will be a bloody rocket in comparison with a 1.2 BZG, I reckon.
  15. It's a humourous quote from the movie "Snatch", my, my, you have led a sheltered life.
  16. We have the "Unintended Acceleration" lawsuit in the USA in the early 90's, against Audi by clumsy Americans who pressed both pedals at the same time in their Audi 5000's to thank for that. It used to be that you could get round it by disconnecting the brake light switch on the brake pedal. I don't know if that's still the case in this CANBus era and it's not something you'd want to do for driving on the road.
  17. Out of interest, what did they put for the Tesla? According to Tesla, there is no service requirement, only on a as-needed basis. So only need to change cabin filter over the article quoted period (3 years?): https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/support/car-maintenance For my Leaf, back in 2017, EV servicing were £99 and £149 for minor (inspection) and major (brake fluid, cabin filter). Now they are asking £159 and £200+. I've been DIY the 2 things that actually needs doing every 2 years, and rely on MOT for safety inspections. The EV is still working great with 2.5 years out of manufacturer's service schedule.
  18. Yes, the one on the 3-potter can be very hard going, especially once the alloy of the block has furred up nicely around it and 'glued' it in place.
  19. The issue is Estimating and What Car. Seems like total nonsense unless they are itemising the services and how they get to that figure if it is 3 services and maybe 36,000 miles. Hopefully others will know what they have signed up to for service plans or what the prices they have been given. I have no idea how much Main Dealerships might be trying to rip off owners or those leasing.
  20. ok maybe i can try get a bigger car than the fabia if i can.
  21. Seems the G28 sensor does terminate in the dipstick area #2 in the picture
  22. You won't get a seven seater Skoda for £1,500 as most will be too new. You may manage to get a Roomster for that price though, which is a five seater. Otherwise, other seven seat MPVs are available from other manufacturers, or if sticking with VAG sheds then a Sharan perhaps.

  24. "Skoda Granit Metallic" Is the proper match, I have a touch up pen of the stuff. Code of it is F7S / 9090 / F7B according to the listing I got mine off. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Car-Touch-Up-Paint-SKODA-GRANIT-MET-Code-F7S-9090-F7B-Brush-In-Lid-/191796789348?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  25. whats the WBAC price? auction price anywhere upto £2k lower than that, Skoda finance price doesn't seem to bad to me looking on Autotrader, pester them for a lower price, got to be better for them rather than the cost associated with sending and putting through auction.
  26. Spare wheel replacement kit Designed for: SUPERB III. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola/p/3V0093860B 1359CZK is about £46.98, ie. the foam and jack part of the full size spare wheel kit is cheap. If you use the OEM part number 3V0093860B you should be able to order this kit through a local Skoda dealer's parts department. Then you just need a 16" space wheel, such as 205/55R16 fitted to a 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim.
  27. My heater control is dodgy, sometimes max heat, sometimes freezing, a vigorous turning the knob back and forth will sometimes make it settle on a set temperature; sometimes going over a bump will reset it. I suspect it requires demolition of the dash to fix it so I resign myself to the fact that I bought a mark 1 Fabia and should learn to live with such faults.
  28. i've had/have a peddlebox , imo, a peddlebox is snake oil, dont waste your money, change the throttle response to direct with obd11 and use sport mode,
  29. Has anyone done a scan of their car with either VCDS or OBD11? They'll probably show up if the car has Wi-Fi system installed, but disabled for some reason.

Man… this forum has almost 100 pages. Skoda doesn’t need to read this forum. Just has to see the number of pages to know how ****ty they are. 😂
  31. That’s pretty poor. That’s the same figures I’m getting from my TSI.
  32. Looking at the used car market, it's probably worth anything between £13-15k right now
  33. Is that the same 1.4 TSI that has the turbo and supercharger. If so they are famous for using high amounts of oil. A friend had an Ibiza Cupra with that engine and it used to use half its oil every 2,000 miles through moderate use.

Well finally I got some good news about my kamiq…delivery date week 20. With all extras confirmed 😊 fingers crossed heheh So all together if that’s true it will be 10 months waiting.
  35. In that case you won't be aware that I never put that it might have failed or to replace it, I did put clean it which IIRC you and/or others have said will achieve very little or nothing - which is fair enough. I was still surprise by your lack of full commitment, are you feeling alright, normally you are certain and decisive. I'd still be interested in which body part you'd guarantee that there won't be anything wrong with the MAP (and how loose you could be with that definition in a lightening strike chance there was). I bet my left testicle that if the MAP is cleaned along with other work and the problem is resolved that it was the MAP cleaning wot wun it. I know you don't see the need but I have to put similes so others can see I'm just having banter with you, I was surprised by the "almost" though. 😁
  36. Fluorescent meters were very scifi when I first saw them
  37. I put 150k as a guide mark, I'm2 looking at multiple between 120 - 180k, not looking for an investment as it would be a daily correct, but up North most are molested examples with well over 150k so putting below 150k would hopefully limit the amount of bad examples out there, as for the 'no yellow' examples, well its personal preference, the yellow ones don't interest me in the slightest.
  38. Good advice from Kenai. In 2004 I had my car written off by by a driver behind me not paying attention to the road ahead. I did what Kenai advises and rejected the first derisory offer, the second offer and accepted the third. I have a good solicitor, who at the time handled the case. He is my good lady's brother! Mind you, I did not have Carwow, Motorway and WBAC back then, just the Thames Valley Trader car sales mag to compare prices.
  39. Possibly/probably not but cleaning it also involves checking the connection, cleaning the connection (writing the theme tune, singing the theme tune) the wires, and more importantly your timidity in not even offering up a body part as a guarantee and putting almost and not "it won't be that" - you won't be welcome in the Car Mechanic's Arms or feel their embrace with that lack of attitude. You were more certain about it being the plugs or coil which is good odds but perhaps something might be effecting the plugs to cause a misfire and perhaps there's more than one thing causing the issue. There's muck coming out the back, perhaps there's muck at the front. I'm always amazed at what can be put about a totally unseen car, unless raky has previously put up photos of his engine. I've no problem with being disagreed with or being wrong, I very often am wrong, it's up to raky what's to be ignored, and the very humble mechanic may totally dismiss it and my other thoughts anyway, though in my life experience I've only ever a very few (rare?) humble mechanics, most have been opposite or totally opposite, some would have the sugar out of your tea as you drank it!
  40. They'll almost certainly offer you something derisory in the first instance. Remember you don't have to just accept this figure. Start collating your own information on similar cars and how much they're advertised for as examples of how much it will actually cost you to return to the position you were in. It may also be useful to get some supplementary information such as WBAC, Motorway, carwow quotes for your registration as these will also help reinforce the true market value your car held. Be firm with them if they try and fob you off with comparisons to 220s that are clearly not an equivalent car.

Hi all, I first joined in 2004 when I purchased the Fabia vRS 1.9 PD. absolutely superb car for the time. I had it for 14 years and apart from a window regulator fail which was replaced under warranty NOTHING went wrong. Since then I’ve had 2 Audi A3’s and my current car (until tomorrow) is the new Peugeot 208 GT. Great car but too small. Anyway, just purchased a 2021 Kamiq Monte Carlo in race blue which I’m picking up either tomorrow or Sunday. Glad to be back……anyone on here from way back??
  43. Also, unless it's the 4x4 top end version, it will just provide even more annoying scrabbly wheelspin. I found it embarrassingly easy to break traction quickly exiting a junction in mine.
  44. The short answer is - any remap whether to engine or gearbox will invalidate your warranty. tuning boxes can still be detected even after removal as they run a test procedure that compares values that the car has hit eg. Max boost, speed, torque, fuel pressure and compare these to what the maximum could possibly be, if they’re above that it’s clear there is tampering. if you had engine or gearbox issues, there is 100% chance they will check as they don’t get paid by the big Skoda bosses otherwise.
  45. Hi all, just joined here as I've purchased the ultimate Grandad car. Having a bit of a commute to work means my 2.0litre 220ps daily is costing quite abit to use so Iwas looking for a cheap daily with decent mpg just to do the work run. I've picked up a 2006 Fabia 6Y TDI Elegance , 90k miles full history one owner. Its finished in what I believe is Flamanco Red. Full Grandad spec , which is quite coincedental as I am a Grandad, yes I know that makes me old but I am a young(ish) Grandad. I've also got in the fleet a 2016 Scirocco GTS, Porsche Boxster 3.2S and a Ford Galaxy for carting the grand offspring round when on Taxi diuties as well as an early Triumph Speed Triple for re-living my youth. Been messing about with cars and bikes for over 40 years, I did mention that I am old, so hope to be able to contribute as well as learn form the site.
  46. I have the Ramair kit on mine... if you're expecting induction roar you may be disappointed. Sounds a bit more wheezy generally. When 'giving it some', you get a pssshhh from the turbo coming off the gas at full throttle.
  47. Yes agree. Install only took me 15 minutes. Most difficult part was getting my hand into the fuse box there's not a lot of room in there! I removed the little storage draw for easier access. I'll take some photos of my install when my partner is back
  48. Very simple install in the Kamiq to be honest. When I’m back of holiday, I’ll try and shoot a video guide.
