Measure 'turns ratio' (crank pulley diameter/alt pulley diameter) then pick an engine rpm after a quick browse here: Experimental study on the effect of alternator speed to the car charging system (matec-conferences.org) The situation is made less predictable by the fact that you will presumably have start/stop and a battery management module that will 'tinker' with the alternator output voltage according to its whim, which isn't likely to prioritise battery lifetime.

I don't know whether I'm reading it correctly, but it suggests that the Travel Assist Package Plus now includes Front Assist with emergency braking. When I bought my SE L in May, Front Assist was standard equipment on all models. Does this mean Front Assist has been deleted unless you buy the Travel Assist Package Plus? The only major difference seems to be making the digital dashboard standard, instead of the previous analogue dials, with a corresponding increase in price. As someone who still wears an analogue watch, I hate digital dashboards so I glad I bought when I did.

A point worth noting. If you do invest in a charger, do make sure you connect the -ve lead to the dedicated point on the bulkhead and not to the battery -ve terminal as per warning in owners manual.

At todays fuel prices, payback time on the cost of the charger will be very short.

Excellent, the car is road legal again.. I tried to find new inline brake limiters, but that just doesn't exist anymore... And I could only find a master cylinder that I already have (non pick-up).. So, my father and I removed all parts from brake limiters, then bled the system and the result was the same.. Right rear was still half a circle late... The next morning we changed the right rear cylinder (2nd time), bled the system and the result was again the same.. But the most important thing was that the rear right was holding as adjusted, and that's due to the new metal bar that connects brake shoes.. The old one was eaten a bit (side on which the handbrake cable attaches) which led to the failing of self-adjusting system ( that is my assumption ) ..

That (your car) sounds like air in the fuel system. Start by checking the filter, the filter connections and the connection from the fuel feed to the HP rail.

The battery is flat, charge it up overnight.

The battery light is nothing to do with the battery, it indicates a fault with the alternator. So having a new battery means nothing, you need to fix the alternator or its wiring.

Thank you, tbh I don't think water will go inside as both the holes were opened (without the grommet and the wiring) for about a month and there wasn't wet after raining.

Here's a couple of photos after I finished putting up the tent Friday eve at Blyton, along with a nice sunset shot and as I'm an absolute geek I had to go and take a closer look at the Combine out in the field on Saturday night! 😂 Saturday morning started well out on track, and the wagon managed a couple of sessions, unfortunately the cursed coolant Y piece split sending coolant everywhere! Luckily not whilst out on track, but after I parked up and popped the bonnet to try manage the insane heat we had yesterday! I was 4 hours from home and the nearest place that had the part I needed was Birmingham, so instead I took a chance and bought a roll of silicone amalgamation tape from a local Halfords and wrapped the split pipe. It worked a treat, but I didn't want to tempt fate and risk it out on track again! But It did manage the 4 hour drive home however so I'm happy and lucky all the same. I will be ordering a aluminium version of the section that split and will probably replace the other plastic components at the same time to stop this from happening again. Even though it put a dampener on the day I really enjoyed myself and the Octavia has so much potential for the all round performance car that can do it all! I'd like to pursue some more power, and will definitely be looking at a 6 speed gearbox with a diff to tame things whilst cornering. My mate got some photos of it out on track, so when he sends them to me I'll share those also! 👍🏻

In the UK the OEM / standard tyre fitment on a Monte Carlo with and engine is 205/40R17 so if someone fitted 195/45 R 17 then fair enough. Some do. Briskoda For Sale ads sometimes has wheel / tyres suitable near enough if you are lucky.

Hi, welcome to the Forum, i too am a fisherman (sea) and i carry both my rods 13ft 6 ins long in a rod holdall plus a 6ft tripod in my 2013 octavia estate, i push down the ski/armrest and shove them through until resting on the front armrest then shut down the tailgate and push the rods back till they touch the inner tailgate, takes my four rods in equal halves in a daiwa holdall without a problem, hope this helps.

Back from a very warm week camping in Wales. Car performance was great. Power delivery was progressive, just dialed up a bit from the original 190, which is what I wanted. Overtaking is now quick and drama-free, which is what I wanted. I don't think the car would be any better with more power without some new shocks and springs, which I won't be changing for some time. I bunged the car in Economy node and set the cruise control to 70 with tweaks to accommodate traffic, as I don't have the fancy speed-adjusting cruise control, which is an option I would be specifying if buying from new. MPG is IMO excellent on a long run if sensible speeds are sustained. (See pic with last year's for comparison. Note difference in average speed; there is a (PITA) 40MPH speed limit near Cardiff and 50MPH limit around Worcester on the M5.) Maybe the MPG would have been better last year under identical conditions, but I can certainly say it's very acceptable as it is, especially as I forgot to re-inflate my rear tyres for motorway driving and they were at 2.5 bar all round, rather than 2.5 front and 2.8 rear as I had going down. I don't have the numbers going to Wales as I forgot, but to be fair they wouldn't be as good as I wasn't trying to drive economically. Fuel for return journey was 30L Gulf super unleaded with 97RON & 5% Ethanol, on top of Sainsbury's 97RON Super Unleaded. (Which I think has 5% ethanol too.) EDIT: Looking at the pics, I really don't do many miles in a year. 😄

As Dave mentioned, LED headlight conversions aren't as simple as switching the bulb. You'd need new headlights designed for LED's which don't exist for a pre-FL MK3. You could retrofit original xenon headlights but you'd need to add/swap various control modules, level sensors, headlight washers along with coding/wiring changes. Unless you find some bargain headlights, it's probably not worth it. As for the tail lights, you can retrofit LED clusters from other Octavia's but I think you'll need a wiring adaptor and coding changes.

Be aware the the dimension is only true at the base, the higher your bag is the less the length that can be accomodated. If it has a solid bottom but squishy sides you will probably be OK dependant on what is inside.

As above, the BMS is set up for economy and tends to only charge the battery on the overrun. Driving 20 miles @ 2000 rpm to charge the battery is just wasting fuel. Buy a C-tec or similar charger suitable for AGM/ EFB stop/ start batteries if you need to.

I’ll be using a place called “We Restore Alloys” that operate out of Dundee as well as Stirling and Kirkcaldy - they have their own lathes on site and do work for all the local main dealers as well as luxury brands like Lamborghini and Bentley dealers They have no issue matching to exact OEM paint codes. Have used them before to repair a diamond cut wheel for my wife’s previous A4 - that was a pig to match as it had a unique to that model satin anthracite grey paint as well as a laser-etched logo. They also re-did a complete set of VW Passat CC wheels in a different OEM paint code instead of the standard VW silver that came out brilliant

I'm interested in the Mazda MX-30 which will reportedly have a version added to the range with a small rotary engine as a range extender. I really like the idea of a smaller, lighter, battery (the current EV version has 120-odd miles of WLTP range I think) which is capable of most journeys, plus petrol to kick in for those fewer days when you make longer trips. For instance I often make 80 mile round trips (maybe twice a week on average) but occasionally (but several times a year) drive 200 miles (and then the same to return on a later day). For me, I think a range extender would potentially be even greener than an EV in terms of energy use, as I wouldn't be lugging round the weight of a big battery pack all the time when most days you don't need it. Sure the petrol would kick in occasionally but as a % of miles it would be so low that it I suspect it would compare well against the extra energy cost of lugging that big battery. The only problem is the MX-30 seems like such an impractical design of car (eg rear doors won't open without front doors, and despite SUV looks, not that much actual space. If someone put a range-extender power train in something like my Octy estate they could just take my money.

2025 is 20mm diameter and 2.5mm thick, a 2032 is 20mm diameter and as you might now guess is 3.2mm thick, in theory a 2032 will last longer as it 28% thicker and therefore should have more capacity from increased internal volume - I would bank on it though! A good brand from a good supplier might be a better bet, but me I just change them as needed with any old battery.

Once the headlights are cleaned up and uv protection put on this makes a big difference just like you seen. The key thing cleaning up the correct way but having the uv protection after.

It worked on my MK2 Octavia but the function was not supported on the later Yeti so I suspect it will not on an even later car. That makes complete sense, like most cars it was pre-registered and punted out to anyone with the weakest of connections to VAG, eg a first year university student a distant relative of someone or to any of the fleet operators, car hire companies etc, they get them for 3-6 months and have to do say 6-10K miles & return them for the next one, the car is then sold on to a pigeon who is told it is an ex demonstrator, the sales managers car etc etc etc. The mileage from the services stacks up.

So went to the dealer yesterday and the car is now in the UK and will be at the dealer on 18th with a view of collecting it on Thursday 21st July, my fingers are crossed.

Hi everyone, I have waited very patiently from ordering a new 1.0 estate SE Tech. on 31st July 2021, read the forums , sympathised and had the same frustrations as everyone else has had. I just decided to grin and bear it, didn't call the dealer, he didn't call me and that is how we left things. the car was for my wife and she was equally patient, unusually so for her. She had a Renault Clio on a PCP deal which was due to finish on 4th July and there was a bit of a quiet concern as to what was going to happen. As it was we got a final value to purchase her Clio for £5374. We paid the amount and sold it on to a dealer for £8900. When we settled wit Renault Finance we had a residual of £3525. We are collecting the new Octavia tomorrow having secured a very god PCH deal back in July21. All in all things have not turned out too bad for us. I hope that those of you that are still waiting will not have to wait very much longer. Keep your spirits up, everything will work out just fine. I don't see much point in visiting the forum again but I wish you all well,
