  2. They are then taking his word for it, an outside person who is nothing to do with Skoda or their warranty process. I wouldn’t work off someone else’s diagnosis, especially if I’m being expected to do the work for free. The reason there are different time scales for service vs diagnostics is because they have different technicians for different jobs. also stating it takes less than 10 minutes is simply not true. Skoda have to escalate claims to Skoda head office to be approved, as part of that they need to follow a procedure. Car needs to be found, vehicle protection put on, driven in, placed on ramp, procedure followed however long that takes including a pressure test on the system, possibly a vehicle health check, document findings, fill out paperwork, find correct part numbers, order correct parts. I don’t often back up a main dealer as I think they are scummy and yes it’s bad you have to wait so long, but just because from where you stand outside in the waiting area it looks like a 5 minute job, doesn’t mean it is. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. also, just cause you say it’s a 10 minute job to them; so do they just fit all the 10 minute jobs in that day and forget the customers that booked weeks ago? And what if it’s not 10 minutes, what if it’s suspected head gasket as there is no internal leaks and the customer lied? You then give it back and say book it in for longer and have a unhappy customer or keep looking at it delaying other customers who booked weeks ago?
  3. You say its a warranty issue so............................. Drain the water, drive it until it seizes and then tell them "I told you so! please come and recover the vehicle and organise a hire car for the time they will be sourcing and fitting a new engine", don't forget to insist on a new water pump as well 😆 Alternatively be patient, them's the choices!

  5. Only the adaptive cruise control has a separate stalk, the cruise control fitted as standard uses small switches on the indicator stalk. There is a switch on the top of the indicator stalk which is moved to the left to switch th cruise control on. On the end of the indicator stalk is a rocker switch which reads RES+ at the top and SET- at the bottom. Once you are driving at the speed you want to maintain press the lower edge of the rocker switch marked SET- The speedometer symbol at the bottom of the instrument display will turn green and the car will maintain a constant speed. You can accelerate if necessary and when you take your foot of the pedal the car will slow to the set speed. If you press the brake pedal the set speed is cancelled. The speedometer symbol then turns white. Alternatively moving the switch on the top of the indicator stalk to the right against spring pressure cancels the set speed (moving the switch all the way to the right turns of the cruise control altogether. To resume the set speed, press the upper edge of the rocker switch marked RES+ and the car will accelerate to the previously set speed. Pressing SET- will set the current speed as the new set speed. When the cruise control is engaged (green speedometer symbol lit) pressing RES+ increases the set speed and SET- decreases the set speed. On early cars the speed limiter was a press button under the indicator stalk. Later ones, including mine, have the limiter buried in the driver assist menu accessed by a button on the right hand side of the steering wheel.

  10. Yes, my manual is almost the mirror copy of that step by step list. However, as I cannot even get the rear trim panels off to get access to the belt in the first place, I have booked the car in for its 80,000 mile service and also the MOT test, and the dealer is also going to replace the belt for me at the same time. To that end I have already returned the second hand one I got for a refund which they did instantly for me with no problem, so I will no doubt be using that breaker again in the future for other parts.

  12. Scanning doesn't use up a VIN only if you do an adaption or re-coding does it then register the VIN as being used and even if you get the 3 VIN option you can just pay to upgrade to 10 or unlimited if you should need it

    The only othe thing I can think of them is the bonnet latch switch if it has one that would indicate the bonnet open for the dash telltale or alarm?? After that I'm struggling unless it's an A/C sensor???

  16. How old is a Felicia, or your Forman? That's how long it's had to develop a twist away from the factory specification. Now fit a chassis brace and instead of increasing chassis stiffness you lock in that twist.
  17. VCDS does need a Windows platform AFAIK. The 3/10/unlimited VIN are hardware choices for the cable, and how many unique VIN's it can scan before it won't do another, unlimited being literally as many as you want. The software is the same for VCDS no matter which you use, full functionality. The other choice is OBDeleven (not one I have used) that just needs Android or iPhone to work, similar to VCDS in function, but not sure if every feature is same. Cheaper to buy, but seems to need tokens to make things work, or some possible subscription* someone who use's it will respond soon I hope.
  18. The ID. cars from VW get enhanced battery temperature management in cold weather with V3.0 software. I expect Enyaq will get similar with version 3 too. In the meantime schedule any overnight charging to complete just before you leave as charging warms the battery.
  19. But its not a court issue... and licensed or not, it doesnt matter because its not a Skoda garage carrying out the work that has diagnosed it.... Its a warranty claim, thats all it is, a claim. As far as a claim works - you state your symptoms and that is as far as you take it, they then find the cause and repair it. They dont take someone elses word on the diagnosis and cause, its as clear cut as that really. You may be right, but they dont know that. All they know and are concerned with again is 'coolant low' anything you add to that is you telling them the cause or not cause, they dont care for that and will find it out themselves else they wont get paid by Skoda HQ. I have many customers and luckily never any warranty issues. But if i did, I would book them in as soon as possible - Does that mean moving bookings around, possibly yes, but i only have a few on the go at a time, Im not a main dealer with 100s of people and even more queuing. Exactly what youre trying to do is displace people, because you have diagnosed your problem already you are expecting to jump the queue when it doesnt work like that and they will still carry out their own diagnosis. Ive already covered why certain mechanics do service work and others do diagnosis, so just because one person might be free, doesnt mean the person you want to see is free. You seem to think youre helping them by giving them a diagnosis but im not trying to be rude or argue with you, Im just trying to tell you simply how things are. I may be coming across blunt but ive given you the long and short of it, I dont make the rules or even work for them. Your diagnosis means literally 0 to them, they will follow their own set procedure based on the 'symptoms' not the 'diagnosis from customer' just because you want to skip that step doesnt mean they will. I do believe they will diagnose it and order parts and fit them all in the same period though, at least there is no reason they shouldnt. Also to add a different angle for you, before considering if the faulty parts are warranty claimable, they also need to look at things that may invalidate the warranty, They havent seen the car yet, they need to check the correct coolant is in the car, no additional damage in the area, the parts are even skoda parts and not aftermarket, any further issues that might need warranty work doing. I am not trying to be rude to you, im just giving you the simple straight forward facts, it may not be what you want them to do, but its what they are going to do.
  20. A good subject for discussion. I have VCDS, it seemed very expensive until I found out how much a local VAG specialist would charge me to do diagnostics on my then MK1 Octavia where only the drivers door would unlock and how many weeks it would be before they could even look at it. I scrapped the car instead and got a MK2 and then realised with the complexity and fragile electronics VCDS was now an essential, having got it, seen what it can do and how much use I have had from it I consider the price a bargain, it gives me control and peace of mind when things start going haywire to be able to faultfind and diagnose. My only regret is not getting the 10 vin version from the get go, at the time 3 vins seemed more than I would ever need but I was wrong.
  21. it depends on how much you want to spend i have been looking at the icarsoft about £150 . it will be my next purchase when the cash is available . for land rovers i use gap iid that costs a lot more but will do most things dealer diagnostics can .

    this one i have online for as long as i need it . it can be seen on any device i am using with a password . it was probably my computer skills that messed the erWin up for me . the timing belt change was all going ok until i discovered the new tensioner was faulty now waiting for a replacement to arrive .

  24. I have the same autoradio with a 1715 version and have not the possibility to change logo station fm radio station . On the manual we can see that there is a menu under radio setup that allows us assigning a jpg or bmp file as logo for a radio station. It seems that menu was disabled! how ? Why ? I really do not understand

  26. Speaking of electricity storage. I've just signed up to Indra V2H trial. I only learnt about it last night. That hopefully means paying £1600 for the Chademo V2H kit, then I'll effectively have a 18kWh home battery and shift vast majority of my energy use to off peak or free solar. Home only uses around 10kwh each day. The Leaf is only going to be used for school run or going to shops, so can let it be runned down by late evening. Wife is happy with another second hand Leaf in 3-5 years time, probably a 40 kwh Tekna being sold this year or next.

  28. Definitely second varooom's thoughts on DPF. My 170 diesel has done 120k miles and VAG DPF is reporting ash oil at 77% of limit. Extrapolating that suggests limit will be reached at around 156k miles, just over 250k km. My DPF has had a very easy life, mostly long motorway cruises with very few interrupted regenerations. So unless the car in question has already had new DPF (or at least been cleaned professionally) there could be a big bill waiting. And could be the reason car is for sale, someone knows a big bill is imminent and is ducking out while they can get a decent price with car not having any actual fault (just a ticking timebomb!) From my own experience and discussion with the VAG specialist who now looks after my car, this generation of diesel engines are more than capable of very high mileages as long as they are correctly serviced. Ditto the DSG + Haldex transmission on my car. So make sure it has full service history with no missed oil and filter changes. Other things to look out for at this age and mileage are sagging (or even broken) springs, worn dampers and perished rubber bushes in suspension. Not an absolute requirement to sort immediately like an overfilled / blocked DPF but can still be a major spend to rectify, even fixing piecemeal one fault at a time. Doesn't mean the car isn't worth considering if the price is right including potential spend for sorting DPF soon after purchase.
  29. As well as Dinorwig (2 GW x 5 hours) and a few smaller pump storage facilities in other parts of the UK there are more and more battery storage facilities and it is becoming super profitable. The Gridserve electric courtyards each have several MWh of storage so they can download Giga-Joules of energy, soon to be Terra-joules as a business at 4p per kWh to then sell to those EV drivers at 50p per kWh, cracking business. Then also have the solar on the roof and then fields next to the electric courtyard to add a bit of jam on top as well, nice. At home thousands of is are doing the same. Buying ever larger battery storage, downloading cheap power at night, 5p or 7.5p or thereabouts , gather solar during the day and running our cars and homes on mostly very cheap lecky and being ready for brown and black outs should they come this winter.

You could raise a dispute with ACCC that the warranty is not being honored within a reasonable timeframe and demand that Skoda instead pay for another qualified mechanic to do the diagnosis and repair work. You could also raise a complaint with Fair Trading if you feel their behavior is unacceptable. Things tend to happen faster when you use the consumer protections at your disposal here.
  31. They don't have to take my word for it. It is stated on the report he made as part of the invoice. His licence number is on the document. But thats not really the point. It doesn't take 10 minutes to put the car on a hoist, take the belly pan off and shine a light on the pump. I find it problematic that the Skoda dealer will take a booking next week for a service but will not diagnose a warranty issue for 7 weeks let alone fix it.
  32. Electricity from Coal Fired in the UK or Europe will be from Coal coming in from Australia probably, by diesel powered ships. The USA is looking to use their Reserves of Oil / Fuel to settle things. Well the President is. We will keep paying the GREEN LEVY on our energy bills while bringing in coal to the UK because we are as thick as mince. We will be paying Wind Farms & Solar Farms not to generate electricity because there are contracts with more costly generators that need sticking with.

    Since leaving work I've been trying, steadily, to improve my appalling physical fitness. Amongst other things I've been gradually increasing how far I cycle, and reducing how often I use any power assistance. Today I went past the 30 mile in one go milestone, and am feeling pretty good about it 😀: Started at 85% battery, finished at 51% battery. Only power assist I used in the first 15 miles was for about 50' getting quickly across a busy road, and probably the same trying to get up a public footpath on the Downs which was made up of deep and sodden leaf mould (failed, and it was too steep to ride back down). All in all a lovely ride. Gaz

    No compression sounds terminal, it's possible that while checking things out the garage rotated the engine backwards which caused the chain to jump but it's hard to say that it's their fault as the underlying problem is the tensioner design. They probably feel really bad about it. Was the engine spinning over unusually fast when it refused to start? Could the engine have rotated backwards at your place? - In gear on hill with handbrake not fully applied, a big engine stall etc?
  41. I used to have the Heko ones fitted. Around town they were fine, but as said above, the wind noise from the front really started doing my head in. With a slight change in job, I starting doing more motorway miles and at 70, the noise was annoying, especially if it was windy as well outside. Found I'd come out the car a bit deaf because I'd turned the radio up a bit too much to negate the noise.
  42. I now only got the rear ones installed. The front ones introduce a lot of wind noise around the mirrors and I've never found a real use for them. To be honest, I only have it to feed power cable in through the rear window opening so I can heat up the cabin and de-ice the car in winter. Otherwise I find them a complete waste of money. Heko fitted well for me.

  47. I'm beginning to regret responding to your post! Maybe I don't have the patience as I'm recovering from covid! My car is tuned to Stage 3 which has a ECU and DSG tune done by JBS in Chesterfield. It's running a standard clutch, no mechanically modification done to it, only software! There are plenty of Golf R owners who are at Stage 3 and running between 520 - 550 bhp and limiting the torque to 600nm on a standard/stock DSG with no issue. They have to be on top of the maintenance to reduce the chances of failure. Naturally the life of the DSG clutch will be reduce depending on how they drive and how many launches they do. The top DSG tune is from TVS Engineering and they have agents across the UK - AKS tuning, Awesome, CLP automotive to name a few. However a few tuners have their own DSG tunes which work well - JBS, Ecotune, Unicorn and of course Revo. It all depends what you after! Personally would I go to stage 3 again if i had the chance? Most likely not. However I now have a car which is faster than an the previous model M3 which i would never be able to afford and has cost me a lot less. Plus the size of the Superb allows me to ferry the family about in comfort and ease along luggage.
  48. As I mentioned above, I wouldn't trust the OBDeleven 'there is new firmware' message, especially given the CAN-gateway suggested firmware. If it also get a valid TPI then it would be a much more useful thing rather than a firmware version seemingly pulled out of thin air. You should use erwin and grab the TPI/TSB's for your VIN. There are some examples below that apply to my VIN. The first relates to the ECU and had been applied (could be by the dealer or factory?) when I bought the car: The second relates to the headunit and not been applied despite being released almost six months before my purchase. This gave me the extra push to apply the updates offered by Pab given there was a valid reason: Finally, the only outstanding update I'm aware of is the electric seat controller: Even if I reported that my seat had issues, without the 'no basic settings' fault, the dealer still might not apply the update I've got someone who will hopefully be doing some more remote work with ODIS for me so I'll see if they can update/parameterise the module for me. If you really want the dealer to perform updates, give them the info they need to find and perform the update or even claim to be having the symptoms in the TPI. Most even have an amount of workunits the dealer can claim from Skoda for performing it.... Don't get me wrong, I fully agree that if there is an update, I'd much rather have it applied at my convenience (service etc) rather than waiting for the problem to crop up and wasting time playing the 'please fix it' game but that's not how the system currently works I'm afraid On a side note, I like TPI 2051234/5, it's basically about faulty MIB screens with vertical lines amongst other faults. The 'fix' is to replace the screen which explains why there are so many on eBay that are 'new' with a warning about vertical lines I'd be interested to here OBDelevens response to where they source the update info from and if your dealer would be happy to update with a valid TPI against your VIN.
