Hi guys, I'm fairly old member but lost access to my old email that account is connected to because the domain is deleted now. If there is a fay to transfer it to new address it would be nice. I had Skoda fabia a long time ago and now I drive Superb MKII 2.0 TDI DSG. I'm from Serbia and I work in IT department so if I can help with any stuff feel free to ping me!
  2. To draw a line under this. I have today had the car collected and a full refund of the purchase price. A positive shout-out to Silverline Motors of Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan. now to find a replacement…
  3. Solved! The chap from PF Jones is a clever bloke, he discovered that the nearside boot light was causing the issue. He disconnected it and everything now works just fine. During my own search just now, I found this which seems to be the same/related thing: So all is now well 😁
  4. You had D or S. Nothing else selectable. Kick down could be on full down accelerator pedal, or a sharp acceleration it is at 1/3 pedal on a DQ200 DSG on a 1.4 TSI Twincharger. But then the DQ200 was used in 48 applications /VW Group vehicles, they do not have the same mapping / management from those with 70 ps, to those with 180ps / Skoda. (192 ps. this was with DQ200 7 speed in Polo GTI 192 ps 2015, limited to 250Nm.) Programmes are there, pre-set. They could become forgetful and needed a kick up the backside to remind them who is boss. (It helps lots if an engine is well serviced up to temp, and maybe running higher octane / cetane fuel.)
  5. https://blog.caristaapp.com/front-wipers-alternating-parking-position-whats-behind-this-complicated-setting-s-name-f0f392a364fe Hmm, when my car knows its on a highway, it only activates high beam on the "forest side". "The headlights also provide different lighting modes for various situations and weather conditions, such as driving in the city, on the motorway or in the rain." https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-kits/skoda-octavia-press-kit-2/new-technology-shift-by-wire-full-led-matrix-headlights-as-well-as-numerous-new-safety-assistance-systems/ should do some changes even on low beam.
  6. This self-learning thing has to be a complete myth. Why wouldn't it be mentioned in the otherwise comprehensive manual that has a section devoted entirely to how the gearbox operates? It also makes no sense. Automatics don't change gear depending on the length of the journey made. If you're cruising at 70mph you'll be in the highest possible gear, regardless of whether you are travelling 200 miles on a day trip on a motorway, or whether you pop out to buy a newspaper every morning and you happen to buy it at the service station which happens to be on a motorway only one mile away from your house. If you're up to 70mph you'll be in top gear regardless of it being a short trip you do every day or you're going on holiday. The car responds to throttle input full stop, if you keep your foot to the floor you'll be in shorter gears for longer, that rings true for autos and manuals. The DSG won't ignore throttle inputs, it will do what all autos do in the same circumstances, what is there to learn? I'm not saying there definitely isn't some sort of reset, athough to reset what I don't know, as I don't know either way. I don't believe in this self-learn thing though for the above reasons though, there's zero requirement for it to exist, and no way would a feature that alters the parameters of how the car drives not be mentioned officially in any documentation anywhere by VAG.
  7. Have you checked that the nuts are not in fact plastic covers? Pop them off and the proper nut is underneath which your wheel brace should fit.
  8. Let me introduce you to my project, hopefully you find it interesting. It's a ex Leicestershire Police MK1 VRS, 160k miles and a total shed! (Don't be fooled by the photos of the outside, they make it look much better then it is). I've been looking on and off for the last 10 years for one of these, from the time the early ones first started to be retired from service. My plan was always to preserve one in its original police spec, and that's what I hope to do with this. My plans are to get this back to a decent useable car first, while researching it's police history. I'd like to be able to use it without fear of catching the plague from its disgusting interior. I need to strip this out to dry it out as it's got the usual soggy footwell. I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date but it will be a slow process as I don't get much free time to work on the car. Anyway, enough waffle, here's a few pics of the car in service and also what it looks like now. If anyone happens to have any pics of the car either in service or when it was retired or knows the car and can share any history on it that would be appreciated. Credit for the in service photos goes to their owners on Flickr and Facebook
  9. Good luck! My repaired unit is still behaving itself - long may it continue 🤞

    Welcome (back!) to the forum
  11. I do miss it on the admittedly few times we get snow, it was great to go out and ‘play’. I remember going out one year for a drive in the snow across Cannock Chase and a couple in a Mazda something-or-other flagged me down asking if I could tow them out of a drainage ditch at the side of the road. I asked them why they thought I had a tow strop and they said “you drive a Defender, of course you’ll have a tow rope” 😂
  12. That does not describe a learning system. It simply adapts to the required throttle input. It may have some level of retention, maintaining a moderate style, dynamic style or any combination in between for a short while until it recognises that you want a different output from it. This again is not a learning system like people think it is. The dsg reset is mainly used to recirculate oil and to let the system re-adapt the clutch bite points. This can have the affect of making the box feel different and many comment that it then starts to relearn. All correct apart from the relearning bit.
  13. I called the Skoda parts chap I bought the nut covers from last year to ask about the loose nut covers. The chap said he had never had a problem in 15 years so assuming that is true, something unusual has happened to mine. As a solution, I have some butyl mastic strip bought for another job and used a couple of tiny blobs in each cover to reduce the looseness. After driving over 30 miles today, the remaining covers are still in place. As the mastic is soft, the covers can still be pulled off with the puller tool.
  14. For all of their, let’s call them ‘characteristics’ 🤭, I always loved my Defender(s), this one was my third and last one somewhere along the Old Coach Road in Cumbria on New Years Day 2009.

No, Skoda provide a restricted data plan for you. It's required to provide online updates for the maps and some software in the car, and to keep the SOS function working. The only need I've found for an extra (and expensive) dataplan is if you want to use the Web Radio - which you can also access via your mobile phone if you really want to. Chris
  16. Yes, there is a room. I used this method with my Jabbasport rear anti-roll bar, there are some pics here:
  17. It should go back up once you drive off but if it doesn't it looks like a trip to the garage unless you're a good DIY person and know how to get inside the door to check all connections
  18. Ye. I agree , it goes back up once you start driving forward
  19. There's no need to leave the car switched on while you're working on the brakes, the park brake system will remember it's in service mode and allow you to reset it when you switch back on afterwards. The important things are: don't turn the piston to retract it, push it straight back don't reset until the brakes are fully reassembled
  20. ...watch this space as they say.
  21. Just had a tow bar fitted by a professional (not dealer), all OEM wiring etc. Now when locking the car, the alarm goes off and/or the indicators flash rapidly. The Maxidot shows a rapidly flashing image of the tailgate, but not red as it does when the tailgate is open and the inbuilt torch flashes too. If we press the tailgate unlock button the alarm state goes off. If we rearm, it repeats above. Is there a sensor that is not working/disconnected? Is there an adjustment on the tailgate latch we could look at? Thanks
  22. Thanks for that. I just wasn't looking carefully enough. You are correct. I've now deleted the 'long term' mpg data & preserved the 'since start' & 'since refueling' data. So still have the data from the start of our ownership of the car.
  23. You will find in a 2010 on Mk2 Fabia Owners Manual the bit about 'Dynamic Driving' with a DQ200 DSG and how you change how the box does behave when driven in different manners. So the sharp pedal actions and the way driven has it matching the spirited driving. When you lend your car to someone else it can come back driving like ****e, as can cars from a dealers forecourt. It does not take many miles of giving one going like a slug to behave as you expect. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/228192-resting-dsg Remember that VW Group / Audi were caught with Defeat devices affecting DSG's and not just engines. that was for changing behaviour during testing. They played about with software before it was commonly used in certain models.
  24. @toot different dealers stating different things..not needed, 4 yrs, 3 yrs...however been told by dealer who spent a fair amount of time confirming that its required every 2 years!!! Mind boggling!!
  25. No, not really. Dipped beam uses both modules. One that is only for dipped beam and gives flat line, and one that is used for high beam, which adds light on the right side (in EU, left side in UK). Also dipped beam can be dynamic, which means it "imitates" turning of the light, by using matrix segments. Also both modules consist of multiple matrix segments.
  26. Hello , as my intentions of adding the tv tuner to my car so i could play videos to the back monitors did not work searching the web i may have found a solution How about splitting the lvds cable that goes to mib2 , this interface converts lvds to hdmi and lets you add more lvds screens. Interface
  27. Thanks @varooom. The update went straight on.
  28. Hi Mdk1 A quick update. My car went in for an airbag light on last week, and they did some sort of reset on the car. It hasn't reset it's settings since.
  29. It is 7.5J, but @RoddersUK 235/35 tyres fit with absolutely zero issues and do provide better (even if just 3mm) sidewall protection from pesky hard things - albeit my Xtremes are already ruined due to standard 'whiteworm', gravel rash, and concrete parking space delineations 🙄
  30. So where is the BS when the tech told me that is was not possible to change or reset the shift patterns on a DSG box? Ahhh right, I see. So its actually like an automatic gearbox, responding to the demands of the throttle position and it is not actually a sentient being is it, “knowing the road it’s is travelling on”, so it does not ”learn” anything at all. Phew… I’m pleased we cleared that one up as I thought the 280 would suddenly decide to drive all the way to Aldi in 1st….for a laugh.
  31. Very late, but thought I would complete this thread regarding de-wipering..
  32. I thought I'd chuck a few photos of my L&K in here as I have the Sportline Spoiler (in body colour) and black front grille/bumper trim (Plastidip), so it looks a bit more Sportline! Personally, I went for the 280 as, at the time, I wasn't paying for my fuel, and I couldn't be without the proper exhausts. I wanted as higher spec as I could find and the only option on mine is the reverse camera, I think (as at the time it wasn't standard), and AFS lighting. I believe someone had coded speed sign recognition, and all of the other stuff Is factory (keyless, 4x heated seats, canton, heated screen, etc.). It's a great car, and it maybe does rev a bit high on the motorway, but no major issue and the 6-speed has been generally good (I do prefer a proper auto, but that's obviously not an option here!). I sense you may be looking for a newer car than my "OG" '65 Plate car, but it's a good comparison either way.
  33. Thanks for all the replies and sorry for my slow response, I had taken the car away on holidays for a few weeks. Since getting it serviced, I have traveled probably 600-700km on the current pads, 400km of which was on highway and 200-300km in the city. I have been very gentle on the brakes over this time but I still have not seen any alerts come up in the cars info system about the pads needing to be replaced. I actually went to takes photos of the pads as per @tootsuggestions and realised the wrench supplied with the jack doesn't even fit the size of the wheel nuts for my car. It is way too small for nuts holding my 18"s on, Is that expected? Anyhow, if I only remove the front wheels will it be possible to see and photograph the pads or will the calipers need to be partially removed? Thanks
  34. Yep mine used to be my all year car but at nearly 28 years old it's now got a pampered life. However if its not raining the roof has alway been down whatever the temperature and still is. Unless it's being washed.
  35. Before the remap I declagged the intake tract of the throttle body, it made a big difference to the throttle response, fuel economy and driveability but did not really address the lack of ultimate grunt which the remap resolved. I have had 2 underpowered base model vehicles, a 105hp MK2 PD engined Octavia and the 108hp CR engined Yeti, both were transformed by remaps, its no coincidence that both were available with higher output engines with little or no physical changes, perhaps a larger turbo, I have found it to be a very economical route to take compared to buying the higher powered examples which cost huge amounts more in registration taxes in France.

It's a MIB3, and there's an update to 0278. But don't expect it to fix the issue, as there are lots of threads about errors during user reg.
  37. It turned out it had FSH and gave it a drive today seemed chushty. Only issue was tires there abit **** tbh not tread but brands. But I've got a good part exchange and some added extras on the offer so I think it's a well rounded package.
  38. Early days and nothing much to report really. The battery hasn't been charged since 19th December and is still starting the car fine. The car is sorned, so isn't being driven, just started and warmed through, so the battery will of course still gradually deteriorate. I've just realised I've got two small solar pv units sitting out in the garage doing nothing, so I might go and connect them up. Gaz
  39. Im not sure what you think a 3.7 ohm resistor will do? And what do you mean a airbag igniter? The crash sensor drivers side is a small module located either in the drivers door or somewhere around the aperture that is there to detect a crash. Now all i can think is, with a resistor you are trying to bodge repair it, which is a terrible and stupid idea with airbags!
  40. You can put Matrix lights to Sidelights and Dipped Beam and use the stalk to put on full beam. No need to have them left at 'auto'. When set on Auto and Matrix is working and full beam, nothing coming towards you, lights bright, you can use 'Flash' and get even more lighting.
  41. Colourful sunset and clouds earlier this evening
  42. Thanks Falco, was all set to head to the garage.

Welcome, hopefully the car serves you well. 🤝
  44. May need to look further afield. Like posts in the vwroc mk7 R modifying forums. Or Gti mk7.5 forums See what they do with late mk7 facelift with Opfs. Yes, the exhaust is different but if you find a endorsed mfr of the exhaust it is likely they will do or certainly a good possibility they will do the vRS. Also as the engine shares a good deal of commonality so the end result should be similar.

Actually i'm not sure if new module is needed. I got some OTA few weeks ago, and since that time i haven't had a single "pop pop" or disconnection. So either it was magically fixed by itself, i was extremely lucky during last weeks, or they were able to fix it with a software patch.
  46. There's a tuning section, maybe try popping in there. I'm sure I've seen some exhaust threads in there.
  47. Just checking in on this What I've written below is probably academic now, as you've either bought it, or passed on it, but in answer to your question I guess I would check to see what MPG it can achieve on a run, plus what the Long -Term MPG shows... After the last experience I'd also be keen to team up with one of the VCDS partners on this Forum's list and ask them kindly whether they're willing to come with you to check the DPF stats (for a sum of money for their time, fuel and inconvenience, of course). Might seem a little excessive, but I wouldn't want the same to happen again.
  48. Pictures please of discs and pads. Just for a laugh. Then time to get the Dealership publicity globally for their concern over customers safety and the upselling profits for the dealership owners.
  49. I agree with @StevesTruck that sounds as legit as a nine bob note.
