  1. Is it not the case that used prices for all cars are 'plummeting' as demand drops due to the cost of living crisis? Last year used prices were daft for everything - at one stage WBAC / motorway were offering me £8,750 for our 6 year old Citigo - mainly due to lack of supply of new cars, so demand was high for nearly new used cars and this had a knock on effect to lower priced cars. I think a lot of people have put off getting a new car due to uncertainty over their cashflow for the next year or so. For those under 40, 10% inflation is a new and scary phenomenon and pay is not keeping pace so belts are being tightened. Mortgage rates have gone up and is shocking those who were forced to max out to buy, so a new car is unlikely. I suspect we will see a 'crisis' in many suppliers of big ticket items over the next 12 months.
  2. Definitely a day for Rainbows.........
  3. Pleasantly surprised this afternoon when my (Stirling) dealer phoned and offered to deliver car to my doorstep. 19 weeks from order date. Thank you very much, as it’s been strange being a totally car-less household for only 1 day. Also awaiting phone call to say wife’s replacement Polo has arrived. As it’s Kodiaq number 3 I didn’t need much of a handover. It went something like “here’s your keys, there’s the seat memory button, boot shelf is under the floor, sign here.” And I don’t mean that in any way critical. Very happy with the way it looks in FOC Energy Blue. And sooooo quiet - filled up with petrol 20p cheaper than diesel. The saving on £1,000 red paint contributed to a repeat of VC, DCC, winter pack, kick open boot lid. A rear camera isn’t my primary means of reversing. We (my wife) enjoys volume knob for radio. I like the new steering wheel controls. My hot wheel is easier to switch on than old model. Surprised to find that KESSY unlocked the car using rear door. Haven’t used Hankook tyres before so that will be interesting. Unfortunately, one of it’s first drives will be to local tip with a few builder sacks full of garden rubbish. IF - I reach the end of this contract, I’ll have enjoyed 10 years of Kodiaq driving.
  4. MG EV's are available for new delivery and priced quite well. Maybe the glut of them used in 3 or 4 years time will tell if they are good value. Cars with 50 kWh batteries and only 45 kWh usable an that get no place near the WLTP figures should be depreciating badly. Funnily small battery cars like MINI Electric, Honda E or Up!MiiCitigo electrics might be the ones that stay in demand and you can not pick up as a bargain, as with BMW i3's.

Recent challenges - broken door handle. And a clamp was scraping on the gravel, easily rotated
  7. BREAKING NEWS: Brand new cars plummet in value as soon as you drive them off the forecourt. Or, "EV Boom for 2nd hand market as over inflated prices come down" There are more than one way to skin a car. Just depends on which side of fence you sit.

  9. I know it's not english but I've queued up the load process. Right two buttons and setup held down with power on until it reboots to the firmware loader https://youtu.be/Cyn-Xu57J4g?t=322
  10. Fractured cable in the doorloop bellows, otherwise failure of the canbus module contained within the wiper, this would be revealed by a VCDS scan, quite possibly the former as well but a MK1 eyeball is best.
  11. A lot of drivers don't realise what a complex component the tyre(s) are and their overall contribution to braking, steering, road holding, handling, ride noise and comfort. They also forget the effects of age and driving and parked up conditions and environments. Many, in the UK at least, think as long as the tyre tread is above the bare minimum legal limit that's all that matters.
  12. Last day of operation Cobra Warrior, so we took a trip to Waddington. The departing Finnish f-18's set off our car alarm!
  13. Yes the link you kindly sent me. I just got a card reader delivered today. The Skoda card I found is an official one and seems to be totally blank. I have a 32GB third party card from Amazon. (Which I was going to use for the firmware update.
  14. B4’s should be a good choice.
  15. My PCP is ending and I am on ICE car at the moment and also Irish government is giving 5K grant for new EVs as an incentive (to be reduced 3.5K from July 23 onwards). also Tesla dropped their prices significantly so it’s all appealing to be honest Contrary it’s over inflated unfortunately due to long lead times of brand new ones

I’m on my second set of ps4 and so far I’ve been really impressed with them. Got 15k out of the fronts and 23k out of the rears which I thought was very good considering the power and crap roads they have to put up with. I was almost tempted to try the ps5 when replacing the rears recently but ultimately opted to stick with what I know especially as there was an offer on the 4’s and not the 5’s so they would’ve cost me an extra £30 or so to try out. Guess next time might be 5’s going on the front though.

All Seasons / All Weather / Winter tyres do not scrabble for grip on hot roads / surfaces, they can stick like sh!t to a shovel. (gravel and stone chips can as well and really make a mess of something or someone when they detach at speed from the rubber..) So good can the grip be that you can rip the tread or parts of them off. So perfect for going to the drag strip, well they can be with some cars. As to driving UK roads with 60 mph roads in the heat of a summer they can be perfectly good if all you are doing is keeplng flow with others out on that fine day. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/505352-deteriorating-front-tyres
  19. If you ping me your VIN I may be able to look it up.
  20. There's a 12V feed, an earth and two 'signals' that tell it what to do. These come from the BCM I think, but also run to the main washer reservoir motor. Will post you a screenshot of wiring in a bit. No CAN connections involved.
  21. So getting this off the ground was very tricky with a smaller trolley jack and four entry level 2 tonne axle stands. I had to remove a small section of the plastic underneath behind both front wheels. one small 5 star piece screw and clipped in.. needs to slide out. One on both sides. Placed the trolley jack in the cut out section to raise and then lower carefully onto one axle stand on the secure point behind the N/S/F. Wanted to lift it from the centre to drop onto two stands simultaneous but it is near impossible to be safe and being too low and is far back for smaller trolley jacks. Raised the O/S/F the same way. Got the rear jacked up easier, lifted from under the O/S/R suspension coil spring. This brought the vehicle up on the opposing side so could lower the rear equally. Much better than getting the front up. Probably an easier way to lift the front up, maybe get onto two axle stands together. If anyone has done before? Some points to note - Ensure handbrake is on, in neutral, use rear wheel chocks, observe the axle stands carefully when lowering and raising, don't forget to crack the wheel bolts when the vehicle is still on the ground.

If looking at summer tyres then consider new Continental sport contact 7 or Goodyear Eagle asymmetric 6 ahead of Michelin Pilot sport 4S High performance all season are bit more complicated, it's really where you want the compromise. Look at Vredestein Quatrac or Goodyear vector 4 seasons. If want quiet tyre look at Pirelli all season SF2. But I have heard mixed comments about wear of Michelin crossclimate2 If want to keep the performance then as soon as temperature is generally below +15c get a winter set (about early Nov to early April in UK)

I hope not. 😀 Today or Monday promised to send pictures when the car will be at his office.
  25. Ideally, you should login into erwin and check against your VIN for any TSB regarding the engine software. A very quick google shows at least two different ECU's for an Octavia with a DADA fitted so it's impossible to give an answer with the info you've provided. 26. I would understand 'solenoid' (electrically-operated actuator) to be item 1 in your images.
  27. I used ImgBurn a free tool, and then write file to disc, touching nothing special.
  28. I have an ECU chip (updated recently), custom exhaust and K&N filter and i got some HP. There are some turbo Felicia but the whole cost is huge (except the turbo-intercooler etc you need gearbox-suspension-rims,tyres etc).
  29. Update for future ref…. Fixed under warranty cost would have been £200 but don’t know if that’s all in or exclusive of vat and labour. Either way a decent chunk out of my Warranty cost for this year. Edit : Final non warranty price would have been £230-250

  37. I haven't washed Gandalf in over 2 months so far, and it's filthy - yet Gandalf still looks acceptable in this pic, which I took last weekend!!
  38. Exactly the kind of internet videos that reaffirm the current vRS image. The yellow car that was crashed was a lovely, lovely thing but in the wrong hands they're an expensive wrecking ball. Hence i'm hopefully keeping mine long enough for that image to fade away and they'll probably then become rarities out there.

I have had the email asking me to renew. First of all I think the membership to Skoda Connect should last the three years of warranty but hey ho. I will not renew on the basis that the Sat nav is way out of date, with speed limits as an example. I use Waze for Sat nav, updated constantly because it is done by users in real time. I have also used Google Maps which is also very good. Both of them knock the inbuilt Skoda Sat nav into touch as far as I’m concerned.

I disagree, based on a few factors ...... 1 The car supermarkets and traders have already, and continue to do so afaik, paid top wack for trade ins and folk just selling their cars. (I do get that the px part of this is not such a big factor as the buyer would have also paid top wack for their newer car). 2 There are a lot of people with more money than sense, in most cases a lot more money than sense... 3 And the ones that have about as much (little) money as (little) sense, just borrow stupid amounts to have the best car they cannot really afford. 4 Any 'small influx of cars' (with folk trying to cash in on high prices) will just be sent to storage somewhere. Their company will still be worth ££££ as they still have the stock. So, prices may vary a little but there is no way I see any kind of 'price crash' happening. A bit like houses, people need and want cars ....... and whilst finance is so easily available I cannot see a change.
