  1. The water was like glass this evening...
  2. Are people just not setting many EV,s on fire yet in the UK.
  3. BMW are so wierd with their quoted battery storage figures. Also the 9 litre tank seems to actually give one a fraction of the mileage expected. One might expect well over 100 miles on the Range extending ICE feed by a 2 gallon tank ! As my Dad would say (lived quite a lot in Canada and USA) "A 10 gallon hat on a 2 pint head" (And that is US gallons)
  4. and you should restrict yourself to public transport.
  5. Good thing about owning Skodas, and Renaults, much less desirable than the Audis, BMW and Mercs. Neighbour across the road had his M3 nicked by robbers breaking in, whilst he and missus were sleeping. Just horrible living in fear of this. Have a Q car. Superb with the 280 hp 4 wheel drive. Octavia VRSs can be fun but less on the nick list I would have thought than a Golf GTI. Need more EVs with Sentry mode like Teslas, even better with electroshock or the like.
  6. Joking aside, I can totally understand a 20mph limit on some urban roads in the cities or towns - roads clogged with parked vehicles, delivery vans etc. and maybe a few of the villages blighted by traffic but as for the rest I tend to agree with Penny Mordant - it's insane.
  7. Probably, just not in the UK. Not much has happened since that article 16 months ago. As it is getting wipers or car batteries or tyres or exhausts in the UK can still be a fiasco.
  8. This reminds me of a practical joke we played on our old GP. Bob was often called out for emergencies and decided to go 'official' with the regalia - green lights and nee naws on his car, 'official' medico jacket etc. - so we made him up an emergency responders' safety helmet complete with a battery-powered rotating blue beacon on the crown (we couldn't find a green one). Daft bugger wore it to a press launch and got soundly told off by the local officianadoes - but he still got his piccy in the local rag
  9. There is a 9 litre petrol tank in the REX.
  10. Well PodPoint went with 60 or more of these petrol powered vans that will run supposedly 60 miles on electricity without the petrol engine running if they are charged up. Fair enough. (Is that when empty and there is a blue moon and it is a balmy night?) Re Van vid. ***Combined, 304 miles range from 36 litres of Unleaded is a truly amazing thing. 31 kWh battery *** Some Edinburgh Taxi Drivers with these were sitting more than an hour on what was a limited amount of chargers and having a break and ignoring others wanting on a charger. Sitting charging to 100%. For free, Then Edinburgh Council introduced the 30 minutes max charge time and a fee (£30 overstay) & it turned out that was enough to get a charge in and go do some earning money. 35pence & kWh. Now it is 60 minutes max time charging time and 55 pence a kWh and i no longer see them sitting 'Long time mister' don't bother me. 162 mpg, amazeballs. Even 132 mpg is fandabby dozzy. 36 litres is nearly 8 gallons. if you were getting 60 miles from the battery and then you need 244 more miles. 244 divided by 8 is 30.5 MPG. 370 miles. say 70 of that from the 31 kWh charge, then 300 from the 36 litres of unleaded. 37.5 mpg. If you are using battery and fuel combined and getting an additional 100 mpg how fantastic. Why can it not go 800 miles then by WLTP figures or the testers?
  11. I had to push quite hard on the pedal, but when Ii did it dripped out. I don't use the brakes much TBH even though Its a diesel with limited engine braking. What scares me is that its first big run out was to the far side of Germany and back.
  12. I worked in Hainault, sounds French and was a fiefdom on the Belgian France border, but is Ilford postcode. Through Epping forest and the latest crop of fresh graves from the latest underworld killings. Do not miss that drive and have not been to Tilbury in months. They do have an EV charge point as a plus.
  13. Thanks for this, the only one in that list that is still in Essex, is Southend-on-Sea, Romford and Ilford became part of London way back in 1965.
  14. The West is rising whilst the East sinks. Think it is all the oil and gas being removed from under the North Sea and the UK sliding in to the void.
  15. But set against that it is claimed that the risk of being struck by a car travelling at 20mph is higher as drivers spend more time looking at their speedo instead of the road.
  16. Why are you going to tell me that this joyriding is still a big thing up in Scotland then?
  17. This is news to me, I never knew it was an option on the sportline seats, even new ones! even so, it’s a very rare option in the U.K.! and a fun fact - the seats don’t blow air out of the seat, they actually suction air through the pin holes in the front of the seat
  18. Probably too late now, but you can download a workshop manual from links in this thread. See 'MikeC' and my post at the bottom.
  19. I bought mine from ECP, branded as Lemforder and with that VW Group part number moulded into the rubber, £13.50 each a couple of weeks or so ago. Edit:- for some reason I bought VW Group drop links, and doing that hurt my wallet a bit!
  20. As Skomaz says - driving, especially in winter up here in Scotland, on unlit roads in the middle of nowhere, they're brilliant at illuminating the side of the road. On more than one occasion I've seen the eyes of deer in the trees which otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. As long as there's no sign of other cars on the road, they're almost always on.
  21. Agree - that did not look like battery was in thermal runaway at the time the blanket was deployed.
  22. You are not going mad. The ratchet sound (four positions) happens no matter how I grip the armrest. Your ratchet mechanism is faulty. PM me if you want a comparison video.
  23. This winter the Blue stuff will be my answer to lazy exterior car care. 'Much cheapness', i will see how it does. Usually i use the Pink stuff which is just the same as Carplan Demon Shine as far as i can tell, it usually goes in a bucket of water or in a sprayer & does the job without any effort.
  24. No, each would have to be kitted-out with full HSE PPE - yellow high-vis vest, safety boots, strobe beacons (for night/fog) etc. Convoys would have to be limited to 5 vehicles. Have I got a chance of running for Mayor 😇? Snowball in Hell!
  25. So would that be one Pager per vehicle - perhaps also wearing a red coat - or one per line of vehicles as per a funeral cortege ? Could do wonders for the unemployment figures!
  26. I've had B4s on many cars and always been happy with them. Most of these cars have been sportier models with slightly firmer suspension however. The VRS is no difference, with very slight lowering springs (20mm all round) and B4s I would say 10% increase in stiffness. It's barely noticeable over stock however this is comparing it to leaking shocks with almost 90k on so maybe not the best comparison. I believe it was Carlston who informed me that the same part number for the B4s is also used for non VRS models including those with smaller engines. I haven't felt that they are overly soft or bottom out easily so I can only presume the weight difference is negliable. They have had a good shake down of two days of driving country roads around Wales and Warwickshire in August and I was impressed with them. I have never compared the B4 and B6 to see the difference however I would expect a slightly more controlled ride. I'd guess this will be marginal. The way I would see a B4 is OE equivalent, the B6 a slight upgrade.

Been told my VRS iV [Ordered Sep 2021] is confirmed for build week 38 (w/c 18/9) Delivery Mid October 2023 Lets see whether its true Fingers crossed here
  28. Then you need to buy an older car, the Golf 8 (and related cars like the Octavia 4) have been released with many software faults and VAG are being very slow fixing them (and in some cases even accepting that they exist).
  29. I didn’t even know they exist 🤔. Or… Do you intend to make the first prototype?
  30. Start stop, then lane assist and finally front assist, go to routine. A few times when i forgot the front/collision assist, parking gave me a heart attack with the breaks smashing on as if i had gone into a wall.
  31. Im thinking of doing this to my mk2 fabia the bushings are an advisory after an mot. Can i reuse the control arm mounting bolts or are they one use only, finding conflicting info on the tinternet.
  32. A company in the US, called DSC Sport performed some shock dyno testing a few years ago on the Bilstein Damptronic B16's and they found that the Bilsteins only are able to control the rebound, while the factory DCC shocks are able to control both compression and rebound with their valving. "This means the Bilstein Damptronics are a less capable setup when looking at compression adjustment, but still happen to have slightly greater rebound range. Basically the only benefits to the Damptronics are adjustable spring perches to change ride height and stiffer springs. But are not beneficial when looking at the "active" functionalities of the shock. This is due to the valve used in this specific shock, however in other Bilstein kits we have tested, like the Porsche Kit, the valve is different and was able to control both rebound and compression."
  33. 1, no drops 2, Yes.. Just bought the car and thankfully they left 3 months of warranty, just had a shop replace the return diesel pipe last week, and they were super good about it. But regarding 2, I think the Haldex oil was changed in march as Multi-disc clutch oil 1L is stated on the latest service receipt. Would the bevel drive gearbox just impact one of the rear wheels?
  34. 1 point
I got oil and filter from TPS. Probably not the cheapest but for the DSG, I prefer to use genuine parts. Last time, March 2022, it was £29.40 for filter and seal, and £109.04 for the oil, all +vat.
  35. Failure of either the bevel drive gearbox to the propellor shaft, its at the front and a common failure point. Or failure of the rear differential. Regarding the first had you noticed any oil drips or stains on the floor or the front undertray in recent weeks? If so that was the oil seal failing on the bevel drive box and once dry it started breaking up. Regarding the second have you had the Haldex oil changed in recent weeks? If so then they probably drained all the oil out of the diff by mistake.
  36. Definitely not wallowing. Also not rock hard. Controlled and supportive is the best way to describe it. Add in aftermarket lowering springs and it becomes quite hard but I never had complaints from MrsG or the kids with the old car. New one has the same springs but on koni shocks and I'm not a fan. Will swap to B6 when appropriate.
  37. Status update - getting this moved on the 22nd to my best mate's. Sorted.

Already tested Motul Specific and Liqui Moly Top Tec 6200 ... both of them fully recommended.
  39. Bloody mobile phone, I have no idea how that other post from the 10th got there, give me a proper computer and keyboard any day ☺️
  40. The Oil change and software Recall Action does not apply here, that is '34F7' and 2009-2012, Summer break.. This is a 2013 so, '34H5' started on 2017 on some from 2013-2015, a software update as a preventative against the heat / pressure issue that caused, cracks, leaks, accumulator failures.
  41. Not quite norfolk. But Fen View Motors in March (just past kings lynn...ish) would be my recommendation. Took my cars to Steve since the day he opened, he was trained as a Skoda tech up until he started the garage. Always given good service and went above and beyond. Also uses a garage 100yards down the road to do MOT's, so the testers wont make stuff up as there is no money in it for them (Steve is a smart cookie as you may have guessed) https://www.facebook.com/FenViewMotors/
  42. U don't have to agree. I prefer practicality over appearance. If I had the option, I would prefer looking out a clean rear window than a dirty window. This is based on my experience of having a liftback with a rear wiper, and now having one without.
  43. I think it should be feasible if you replace all specific parts but at a huge cost, since you need to replace the rear windsreen for a drilled one and big housing parts at least.
  44. i disagree , never missed it, rear wiper only spoils the car's appearance! i deselected this option, even when it were free of charge, when ordered my previous MY16 Mk3 220ps later it became as paid option
  45. The first thing I do when I get in my car is turn this and lane assist off. It’s like cars are being designed and built for morons these days, let ME drive my car, not the other way round.
  46. Well I can only go back as far as 2000 in the VW Group world of motoring, and all 6, 3 VWs, 2 SEAT and 1 Audi, have all had that feature, so its been around for a while now.
  47. By the way, for the repair option, but maybe also replacement option, it's worth considering that it's really very easy to completely dismount the door from the car, to improve access and working position. Check strap comes away with a single XZN-head screw, then there's a 13mm 'nut' at each hinge to undo, then just lift away carefully. The lower (painted) nut is visible in Hawkander's photo above. An assistant to take the weight of it may be handy, especially when refitting.
  48. I dunno; do the instructions mention serpentes lubrication?
