  1. Thank goodness there are the likes of you not buying into EV driving if you are going to have to public charge because there is not the infrastructure to even cope with 10% of vehicle on UK roads needing to and 50% is never going to happen. Just keep on buying your diesel regardless of how much that gets to costing.. It will not be that much really and if it does get very expensive for private users then that's just how things go. Importing stuff is out of the control of the countries government anyway. The UK can not even be sure of keeping the refineries or cracking plants there are now.
  2. That's exactly how small residential streets/ roads with traffic calming (and not necessarily Cul-de-Sacs) are here in Germany. As you enter you'll have a blue sign informing you there may be children playing in the street. Max speed is walking pace IIRC. As you leave the sign below will have a red diagonal line through it to inform you that you're leaving the zone. We live in one and it's no big deal.
  3. I've finished my 🍺 for 2023. Now onto far harder stuff. I had an amusing thought... to get the topic back to electric cars... this is perhaps more for @Lady Elanore petrol veins... Sound up of course for the reference play through... Watch that Now I was thinking how could it be remade for the electric generation... It's surprisingly easy. 1. turn the sound right down/off on the video, or leave it up a bit, for the faux noise generator effect. 2. Open your favourite music player, start Ray Stevens cannonball run 2. Click replay We'll need an AI to alter the paint to green of course at 0:58. Then at 2:16, well that was a cheeky supercharger 350 top up, big solar farm just off shot, easily missed... However I've been wracking my mind how to deal with the 3:04 dialogue where car 42 is in pursuit for 2hours... Just go the next supercharger Now the LP500, a 4.8L v12 had a 0-60 of 5.6seconds, no idea of fuel economy, not a lot so many hydro carbons released, anyhow will cost you north of 775k today. MG4, 3.8seconds for <40k. However probably not going to make it to Arizona in the remake. I'm still set on the next car being electric; swmbo lease has to be, however I'm really still torn on what happens the '19 superb. Kind of want to get it done now, early '24, nothing VAG is doing floats my boat, fossil or electric... Odd interlude, yesterday I decided to cycle to our little cycle day out meet up & cycle back. So I saved myself 90km of petrol burning by getting up early and getting back late; although 3hours in the rain kind of dented the elation. I might of blown some of the 'saving the planet' mojo on a hot sausage roll, some flapjack, mars bar rice crispie thing... but it's all part of the grand plan. Also read of a chap, cyclist, being killed on the road, a road I know well as driver and rider... A city at 6am is lovely, a city at 6pm in the rain is horrible, RIP fellow human enjoying yourself amidst the steel monsters. If the deadline does slip back I'd be wary of infrastructure push equally slipping. Recent travelling I've seen a lot more ev's charging, but never quite full stands. Only one or two cars away from being full though. So I keep flip flopping back and forth to a euro6 diesel, although fully aware the ulez of the future will come for diesel first. i've pushed my local trips on foot out to an hours walk, upto 10km for cycling where practical. Well aware thats all good because I can, or have the time. When I need a new hip or whatnot, time will cheap, pain will be a great friend. Anyhow hopefully back to the ins and outs of EV, if we can please. I've got ma whisky to savour. Slange var.
  4. What if every one bar me goes ev I remember in 2020 when the sale of fuel dropped significantly due to little use the price dropped to below a pound a litre. Oil was traded below $0 a barrel because they had nowhere to store it. So if i am the last one with an ICE i may be onto a winner 😉
  5. A have loosely followed the last few pages of speed limit stuff, not sure how we got there from the truth about EV's but hey ho. I did hear some numb nuts circulating that the 20 mph had to be brought in because heavier EVs could not stop as quickly. Anybody want to know braking distance for most mainstream EVs and compare them to an ICE I suggest the ZEPREF website.... https://zeperfs.com/en/perfs.php?Action=Duel A few points I would make of the 20 mile limit is, which I support as an ex Department of Transport Officer at Exeter SWRO scarred by reading numerous fatal accident report and recognising cars much braking performance, tyres etc. Car increasingly will have black boxes that will record the speed of vehicles just before the accident. Autonomous driving will only operate at the maximum speed for the area. In Wales I can see big queues behind such cars as I experience just about everyone driving at 22,23,24 or 25 or so in these areas. I wonder if there might finally be applying a minimum standards of frontal safety of cars in relation to safety which would perhaps majority change the frontal profile of Chelsea tractors ? The death of the two children killed at the Wimbeldon school by collision with a Range Rover. Might they have survived if the car had been a car such as a TESLA with their Higher Vulnerable Road User score https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/tesla/model+y/46618 compared to Range Rover and RR Sport variants. RR https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/land+rover/range+rover/47130 and RR sport - https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/land+rover/range+rover/47131 UK has done well to reduce road deaths but there is still much to do and advanced in car safety systems should bring the road death numbers down from the hundred to dozens and then singles and the zero eventually.
  6. I do hope there is nobody thinking that the more people turn to EVs that the price of Electricity will plummet. I also hope they don't think having a smart meter reduces their electricity bill. Unless they had no idea boiling a kettle cost money before.
  7. It is integral with the master cylinder reservoir, usually this symptom means the concentric release bearing is failing, we always do the master cylinder first and when that fails to rectify it, the return damper and after that doesn’t work, give up and pull the box.
  8. 15 minute cities does not prevent people from moving around, at all. It also does not prevent formation of large cities. It is a model to build more accessible amenities and do away with reliance on cars. Remember, cars does not equal to freedom. When a society has over reliance on cars, it is actually the opposite for people in the lower percentile. Building amenities within walking distance helps everyone. If we can do away with private car ownership, it's even better. Eg. Community car clubs? Small Close is something like this, where the space is shared between cars and all road users. I don't see any problem allowing children to play on the road between the bins and house to the right. 20 houses is not a small close...... I'll leave it at that, relying to anything else just goes further off topic. The groan reaction will have to do.
  9. Evening all, i've been meaning to put a little blog together for a while... just getting round to it now. Picked up my 2016 vRS TDi up back in December after a change of job with an 80mile round trip commute each day left my little mk7 Fiesta ST drinking my salary in fuel. It was a great little car, absolute riot on twisty B-Roads, i'd got it up to stage 2 with Collins Performance, but sadly the long motorway commute just ruined the experience with it. This isn't my first 184 motor having had a mk7 GTD stage 1 with Revo three years ago which sadly lost its life to some idiot oncoming driver up north of Ullapool, Scotland, shame really as that was one great all rounder. I'd always had a soft spot for the mk3 pre-face lift plus the practicality makes a huge difference both on commute, for chucking the mountain bike in the back and getting up to the trails . First thing it definitely needed was the tyres sorting out, it had one PS4S on the front and then three completely different tyres on the other three corners. Previous owner clearly skimping out on traction before chopping it in to dealership... This made it feel disgusting on greasy roundabouts in December. So it was booked in straight away to have three other Michelin Pilotsport 4S's fitted. This is the second car I have had these tyres on and I can't stress enough how good they are! So like most of us who modify our cars the bug didn't take too long before I started making the change personally think makes the car that little bit better than standard. Work done so far: Tuning Box - Currently DTUK tuning box fitted although i'm not entirely satisfied with the delivery on any of the settings. Lowered with H&R 40mm springs 15/20mm H&R Spacers front to back On Collection: Lowered and spaced: Future Plans: Next steps I would like just improve on visual appearance and the handling: Looking at rear diffuser maybe the Reiger one as it is a little more subtle that the Maxton ones I've seen Maxton skirts I think really set the side profile off so these could also be on the card Maxton front splitter also being looked into, bit on the fence on this one still Rear anti-roll bar - although I am unsure what is the go to here, any advice would be great! Braided brake lines and possibly some higher performance discs and pads It may also end up at Revo...
  10. After seeing so many people doing it the wrong way, I decided to make my own video
  11. Hi everybody. I have a 2012 Yeti in very good condition with 2.0 tdi engine. I am in the final stages of a timing belt change and although I have done several belts on other vehicles, I have found this one to be quite a bit more involved. Having been previously somewhat confused with several aspects of this work, I am very grateful for the information I have now found on this forum which absolutely has changed the way I was going to do some things - most notably the tightening of the tensioner stud nut. I look forward to being part of this forum.
  12. One does not have to permanently mount either the solar panels or batteries which hold cheap electricity from off peak grid supply or that from solar panels. One just takes the array and the batteries with one when one moves. Example of solar array, a sol tracking one and a battery which has solar as well as grid input and an inverter capable of powering home appliances. Allpowers, Bluetti and Ecoflow are common choice and can be had for under a grand and will save about a £1 a day and they will work for a decade giving near original capacity. They can be daisy chained to supply many GWh of power, enough to supply the house's major appliance through the day and then be recharged again at night on the cheap lecky. Some people carry them in the car as emergency charge ie Bjorn Nyland in his EV drive the vehicle until it dies tests.
  13. @Graham Butcherwhere have you read this, and when are these going to be mandatory? This type of story telling is a real issue. @Leemaybe has a clip with Colin from Portsmouth saying much the same.
  14. You'll need to look at very recent EV's. The efficiency takes a big hit, so you'll need to recharge more often than without. Unless you do towing only once or twice a year and can rent for those occasions? Oh yeah that was great. I was "essential" and had to travel back to office ~150 miles away about once a month. Almost empty motorway and £1 per litre diesel. I was almost looking forward to the 3 hours drive.
  15. Solar power and a power bank is great if you are young enough to recoup your investment in them
  16. Ta! Yeah, it's a pretty decent one and I was planning on keeping it until the very end until my head got turned by another BMW! MOT booked for Friday and ideally I want it gone this side of Xmas. (I'll update the post once MOT'd)
  17. @lol-lolthat is your electricity then and others maybe with the same as you. Someone paying £3 yesterday for 10 kWh and £2 70 today but with a few pence more of a daily charge has not even got a 10% drop. There are too many that are not aware of the cost to the many in this country.
  18. Octopus users, I would have thought. My daytime rate has gone down from 40p per kwh to 30 p per kwh so by a quarter. Night time did tick up from 7.5 to 9 p per kwh but still ridiculously cheap.
  19. 30 pence a kWh going down to 27 pence is not a 20% drop. @lol-lol who is getting their electricity for 20% less?
  20. What law is that and what is the tolerance please?
  21. I did this job yesterday. It was pretty easy to do. I removed the air flow pipe from between the turbo and the throttle body, following the guide. It needed a Torx screwdriver bit to remove from the turbo end and a bit of manhandling to get it off at the throttle body end. I poked a thin hooked wire into the grommet and dragged it backwards; this found that there didn't appear to be any remnants of the old, broken off plastic PCV still inside it. Then, I removed the old grommet with a flat blade screwdriver. I didn't bother softening the new grommet as it seemed to fit easily into the rocker cover, then pushed the PCV "snout" into this. Seems to all be ok. Parts were about £26 delivered from AutoDoc as no one else seemed to have both parts in stock.
  22. H&R have adjustable springs for this Octy
  23. Well, there's a fault in the display itself, as it's flashing between a faulty "S" and "D1".
  24. Used car asking prices are crazy. Luckily you do not always need to pay the asking price if a car is not selling at the sellers wish and a dream price. Enthusiasts forums can be a good place to watch for cars for sale or put up a wanted advert. Eg Briskoda.
  25. Another one here for Michelin Cross Climates. I'm up on top of the Pennines, they've lasted approx 30 - 35K. They offer superb cold weather & wet weather grip and were quieter than the set of Bridgestones my Golf GTE came on
  26. The reason I ask, is because I found it very useful when considering a new car, to look at the cost to swap, which in your case is going to be about £3500-£3800, and ask what you're getting for you're £3500. If your Fiesta really is a pile of garbage, and the Fabia is running okay and is in nice condition, then you can decide whether it's worth the cost to change.
  27. I had not heard of PoInspector. As an alternative, I didn't know you could toggle POIs on and off. So you've solved my problem. 😊 Thank you! 🤝
  28. The worn parts can be replaced in situ, I bought the following from AliExpress. Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! £20.69 10%OFF | For Skoda Octavia Superb Fabia Yeti DSG Gear Shift Knob Leather Side Cover Interior Parts Accessories https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqp2npM
  29. Thanks for responding. All good. It’s a bit of a pain when there’s no consistency with this stuff. My Octavia RS wagon/combi is a 2011 so I presume that wiring colours changed over time. Not helpful when you’re trying to hook up a reverse camera properly. I’m just happy that I got it right in the end. Quite the head-scratcher. Cheers, Michael.
  30. If users POIs you either get all of them or none by toggling on and off. You can create your own user POIs for import with Poinspector. Needs some effort to setup but works.
  31. Whatever a fiesta's weight of slightly rusted steel is! Scrap value only I'm afraid - the only decent paintwork on it is courtesy of hammerite, and while I've kept on top of brakes, tyres, engine etc, pretty much everything else is missing or broken.
  32. If you owned one of the single horn vehicles like mine you would realise just how pathetic the horn sounds, it really is an embarrasment, it sounds like something a toddler would have on a tricycle. I never want to use mine, sometimes I do so instinctively and then curl up with embarrassment, I want to hide!!!!!
  33. Rolled over to this last week: Did 900 of those, since the 30k one, going up to York and back. Gaz

I really like this look too! DigiCamo could be a nice dealer accessory option.

Is it bad that I want the camo livery? 😀

April 2023 turned into an expencive month. . Protrack ONE wheels. 😍 18 x 8j et45 in gloss silver. Paired with Michelin pilot sport 5 (Again) These save just over 3kg per corner vs the oem Geminis 🙌 Got them coated with Carbon collective platinum wheels (Amazing wheel sealant- used it on 4/5 sets now) I went with silver wheels, because they have become one of the least used wheel colours in recent times, I don't like black wheels (they just make your tyres look grey unless you constantly dress them) and i wanted to go with a touring car kinda vibe with the car. . . .Anyway. On the car. . 🤌 Initially I was scared staying 18s and going multi-spoke would make them look too small for the car, but they didn't Imo.

Dec 2022 through to April 2023 the car remained mostly the same, just kept clean and maintained. After having the mapping done obviously the car wants to try and break traction more than it did from factory. So I ordered the Racingline performance twin dog bone inserts to see if it would help (breaking traction wasn't that bad that I had to order this,I'm just a sucker for nice looking car parts - although once fitted it's never to be seen by anyone really) definitely makes a difference, but can be a bit annoying in stop start traffic with it being dsg when the clutch fights the brakes . . It transferes more vibrations into the cabin than standard.
  38. I'm not familiar with Rapid spec but there are two likely scenarios: - it's a base spec model without a multifunction display fitted so there are no buttons to control it - the stalks or steering wheel have been incorrectly replaced by a previous owner for buttonless versions I assume your display matches that on the right: You might be able to replace the stalks with the button variety but it'll likely need coding and possibly a new steering wheel controller.
  39. No update this project for ages as have not really had the cash or the time lol 😂 but I have added remap now pushing approx 210bhp and added black door mirror covers (not that you can tell on the grey) toying with how much more to do I really want a S3 🙂
  40. If I remember correctly newer cars do not need high engine temperatures to start regen. They kind of inject the fuel directly into DPF to get the regen temperature up sooner. But first buy some cheap OBD dongle and download VAG DPF app to phone. Gives you a pretty clear picture what is going on with DPF.
  41. They are irregular to a casual glance especially when covered in road dirt but they are actually a sinusoidal waveform. My coupling cost €80 but I had to shop around. If you can really pull it off with your hands as opposed to misinterpreting the necessary decoupling of an NVH damper then pull it away and disc cut it off, the car will still drive perfectly, the outer ring plays no part in the power transmission and I bet you my house there is no deterioration of the inner drive coupling. If the ring really is going to seperate you dont want that to happen when you are driving, it will sound like Notre Dame!!!
