  1. Maybe not scrapped but written off as uneconomic to repair and the can rise like a Phoenix from the ashes to live a long life. Its all about the business. Then the EV,s / Hybrids / Mild Hybrids need the specialists to be uplifting / storing and scrapping or repairing. ICE vehicles as well, fluid removal, disposal and recycling. 'Loads of money' Profits to be made every which way. Tough titty on anyone uninsured and maybe even the insured vehicle owners.
  2. Got to admit I admire your tenacity. I used to have a bit of a fiddle in the days of Anglia and Morris 1100s when you could get away with tinkering whilst not knowing exactly what you were doing ... but not now. Well done you.
  3. The resistor is the EOL (end of line) monitoring resistor, as it is a safety related system the controller should see the resistance across the wires which switches to a short circuit zero resistance when someone is in the seat, if it sees an open circuit it means the circuit is inoperable usually by someone disconnecting it. Sounds like yours has been disconnected which should bring up a fault code.
  4. It is the passenger seat occupancy sensor. connects to a contact element Inside the seat and yes the blue end just hangs under the seat albeit should be quite high up under the base and out of sight. the bit in the bottom of your photo going towards the foam goes under the foam on the metal base and creates a pressure sensor
  5. I have a CTEK MX5.0 and the user manual explicitly says to connect the charger's negative wire to the chassis. It says the negative connection must b away/remote from the battery.
  6. If you are going to be prevented from accessing and using your vehicle for months then the insurers will pay out as they would if a stolen vehicle has not been recovered after X days/weeks. They will be loving it, their favorite type of claim, no personal injury, no ambulance chasers, they will pay out far less than the actual value and then deduct the excess, the policyholders will then be shafted for increased premiums for years especially if they have protected NCB. The insurers will then sell the undamaged vehicles for close to their market value, more than they will have paid out, they are not even having to pay storage or parking fees to the airport! Nice work if you can get it!
  7. Replaced the AQS Sensor in my Superb today. Old - 5Q0907643D (HW 30; SW 119) New - 5Q0907643F (HW 32; SW 120) Hopefully no more intermittent errors with the Air Conditioning Module 08 anymore. This was the error I would get randomly, sometimes.... "Air Quality Sensor B10AF04 [008] - Internal System Fault" Fingers crossed.
  8. At least the TESLA driver knows something about H2o & flooding. I am sure his solicitors can tear a new one for TESLA EDINBURGH & TESLA in general.
  9. I agree with an amber or red being very serious...just the whole Tesla Dealership attitude of automatically blaming the failure of the battery pack on the fact the the car's owner drove out on a night with a yellow weather warning!...Basically the cars not fit for Scotland!...But in reality its more likely the dealers making B.S. up to get out of coughing up for the new battery pack...It will make for good reading in a Court case on consumer law.."not fit for purpose"..
  10. Assuming they are the same sized tyre the answer is simple. The Bridgestone tyres had rim protection, the Continental's don't.
  11. Attenborough nature reserve this afternoon.............
  12. The part number above is the newest revision which hopefully fixes some of the failings with the old one. don’t worry about the HW and SW, just the part number.
  13. For starters we are only going on what has been reported in the press.....& you say you'll side with the dealer..... Time & time again many dealers have been found to be refusing known recalls, repairs for manufacture defects etc,, no matter EV or ICE engine... If that Tesla was submerged enough to cause the battery pack to fail to due water immersion, the carpets inside & other items will show water damage....the dealer hasn't stated that, only "there was a yellow weather warning"...therefore the dealer has no proof that it was submerged & is clutching at straws to avoid having to cough up for a new battery pack due to a manufacturing defect!...Skoda VAG, & many others have been known to do the same i.e. refuse to cough up for a manufacturing defect Also as pointed out by others, plenty of other EVs driven in yellow, amber etc weather warnings & no problems!!
  14. True, my car was written off, but within a couple of weeks of the "wreck" being sold by Copart, it has bee repaired and put on the road again as the car is now currently taxed, so it begs the question, are cars being written off too easily.
  15. Sorry Graham you are reading something that hasn't been written Assuming you mean "Obviously we don't know exactly how well-sealed other parts of the Model S are, but it's safe to assume that the battery pack—which contains lithium, which bursts into flame on contact with air or water—is fairly impenetrable. The fact that the Model S has a "bioweapon defence mode" also suggests that the cockpit at least is very well-sealed." It does not say that the pack will burst into flames if water gets in. The sentence says that they assume the battery pack to be fairly impenetrable. it also states, as you do, that Lithium bursts into flames on contact with water. You changed it by ignoring punctuation.
  16. "This story is too good to check" Spoken by a journalist acquaintance of mine.
  17. Because whoever bought it didn't spec them They were only standard on the SE L and vRS Challenge looking at the Nov 2019 brochure:
  18. We know you have a 2017 Octavia, but not what engine it has???
  19. Waiting at Luton airport now. Friend just parked their diesel at car park 1. View of car park 2: Loads of non damaged cars. Hope they don’t scrape the whole lot.
  20. It seems just because of 1 story, common sense posting have vacated and wild speculation have prevailed.
  21. All just b0llocks. Total nonsense & hype. Thousands, millions of EV,s world wide, no idea how many Tesla but the Dealership Employees, Customer Services or anyone need to get a grip. As for driving in cold slush, snow etc, again globally there must be millions of EV,s now that have or will be used in those conditions. We are doomed, all the EV vehicles that are used for Meals on wheels, Nurses / carers / social workers and trades etc in Angus that will not be getting out because of big puddles. Traffic Scotland and roads department EV vehicles (& range extenders) all around Scotland and in the East are surely going to be out and about. Then the Dundee City Council vans.
  22. eek!... In all seriousness. If E.V. dealerships are going to routinely use the excuse of "you were driving out in a X weather warning" to find an easy op-out for a failing battery pack....I wonder what will happen when all the emergency services, & utilities companies vehicles have to be electric??...Those vehicles are out in the worst weather....
  23. A member of the german skoda forum confirmed that he got 1941 via OTA (1900 before).
  24. No, but the the car's owner states they had only driven in to Edinburgh that night & driven through normal puddles, so not "wading"...Its the Dealer who used the excuse of "you drove that night when there was a yellow weather warning" as reason to refuse to replace the battery which had failed....The battery could have been gradually failing for ages due to manufacturer defect, just that the final straw was on that night when they happened to drive out when there was a yellow weather warning! TBH driving out on a yellow weather warning is nothing up here in Scotland.....If had to stay in every time there was a yellow or warning, I'd spend way too long indoors & not get to work, or not ski-ing, mountaineering or getting shopping done!
  25. I had the same issue with mine, and today I took it to my service agent who had a look and said that it needed a software upgrade, which he did, and now the seat memory is supposed to be working, so I'll need to set it again and save the settings. I did notice since doing the software update, the passenger mirror now dips down, they also did one or two other bits and only charged my a very reasonable £60. Knowing that it was a replacement car for my old one, which they looked after from new, they did give my new to me one a good check over and the verdict was that although it has done high mileage, it does not look like it, and they say that I selected a fantastic and well sorted and cared for car, which is good to know as I was a little worried about its mileage.
  26. I had a ride today in a full EV, a SsangYong Korando e-Motion. My local Skoda service agent had my Superb in today to inspect my oil pressure regulating valve and the seat memory, and they are dealers for SsangYong range and when mine was ready, they came and picked me up the SsangYong, despite having massive proportions on the outside, it was rather cramped on the inside./ Nice enough interior though, just the front seats were a tad narrow for my frame. The salesman told me that he uses the demonstrator as his daily, lives in Gravesend but has no way of charging at home so charges it at work for free. He said that when he was told that was his company car as well, he was a bit dubious about it being an EV but admits now that he has come to like it. It only has a range 211 miles and can charge at 50kWh. O-62mph in 7.6 seconds, a whole 1 second quicker than mine but runs out of puff at 97mph. It was comfortable, but not as quiet as I expected it to be.
  27. Do other dealerships pay for flood damaged cars under warranty? Good general advice for all car owners TBH.
  28. 195/50R16 or 195/55R16 would protect its 6J rim a lot better than 215/40R17 protects its 7J rim. In some countries with poor roads, 195/55R16 is a standard tyre size on the Rapid. 215/40R17 isn't offered at all because the roads would simply destroy the wheel. 215/40R17 on a 7J rim really is quite vulnerable to kerbing damage because the sidewalls don't bulge out much. Actual inflated width of tyres 215/40R17 fitted to a 7J rim is 212mm 195/50R16 fitted to a 6J rim is 201mm 195/55R16 fitted to a 6J rim is 201mm So although the 215/40R17 tyre fitted to a 7J rim is 11mm wider than either a 195/50R16 or 195/55R16 fitted to a 6J rim, the 7J rim is 1" (25.4mm) wider than the 6J rim. The result is that these 16" tyre sizes are 14.4mm wider relative to the width of the rim. That's the difference between badly scraping the rim on the kerb and not scraping the rim at all. Hello everyone, i am the owner of Skoda Octavia Combi III, 1.0 TSI. Because I like to do something for my car, I joined the forum.
  30. The Vredestein Quatrac sometimes incorrectly called Quatrac 6 (although it can be useful calling it the Quatrac 6 for clarity, so I will use the Quatrac 6 name) replaces the Quatrac 5, although 13" and 14" tyre sizes and the odd 15" tyre size are still only available in the older Quatrac 5 model. The Quatrac Pro and the recently introduced Quatrac Pro+ models are a more summer focused tyre that tend to be available in larger 17" and larger tyre sizes. The Vredestrein Quatrac 6 is only available in 15" and 16" tyre sizes, except for two 17" tyre sizes...namely 225/45R17 and 225/50R17. The Quatrac 5 and Quatrac 6 tend to have longer tread life than the Quatrac Pro and Quatrac Pro+ models. There's also a Quatrac Pro EV for electric cars...apparently the first all-season tyre fully dedicated to electric vehicles. The Vredestein website is useful for looking up what sizes these tyres are available in, and which models have rim protection. I'm not a fan of rim protection because I tend to protect my rims by using relatively narrow rims. With rim protection build into the tyre, you can get chunks of rubber broken off the tyre because the rim protection doesn't give like a bulging sidewall gives when you sometimes gently nudge the kerb while parking. Out of all these Quatrac models, only the Quatrac 6 is a directional tyre. Vredestein website https://www.vredestein.co.uk/car-suv-tyres/
  31. But its still not confirmed either way.
  32. UPDATE So the RAC Patrol Technician arrived today at 0910. He tested the OE MOL battery and it failed the test, stating a failed cell. He’d brought a RAC Branded Varta Silver Dynamic AGM battery. He fitted it, coded and was all done in 30 mins. Perfect. Oh and seems the info I was given re the patrols being all done at 16.00 was nonsense; he got sent the job at 19.45 last night and he finished at 20.00, hence why I was his first appointment today.
  33. You have to find humour from events. Well as long as not your crisis,s. This company made me laugh. But i am sad!
  34. Driving in those conditions and choosing to drive through floodwater are very different things. The owner is carefull to paint a story of innocence about his night out at a restaurant, if as he claims the garage claims the battery pack has been submerged its unlikely to have been that evening, the water ingress will have taken quite some while to corrode things to cause a breakdown, you could indeed float a Tesla (except it wouldn't as the cabin is not marine sealed) and have the battery powering the wheels, if you were to end up in a river the headlights for signalling and the window motors for egress would all work and mosts systems continue to do so after the vehicle is recovered but in time they would all fail unless dried out, corrosion removed and neutralised and the PCB's conformal coated (I think that was the term) I have experienced many that I have saved from water damage only to fail later on.
  35. The dealer had not stated anything unless you know different. The owner makes claims of what they are alleged to have said and without me reading through the article again did he not say "they effectively said........" ?
  36. Absolutely and as there have been (to my knowledge) no statements of any kind from Tesla or the garage we have only their alleged comments editorialised by the owner who has admitted responsibility and is seeking to minimise the cost to them.
  37. Exactly what I said in another post the other day. Can you imagine having a house on fire and the fire engine won't be arriving because of the prevailing weather conditions? Utter madness.
  38. You won't get a fault code from a failing ECT sensor until the output actually falls outside a plausible range.
  39. If the tyre fitters recommended the tyres as a replacement for the Bridgestone's, then it would have been helpful if they'd let you know about the lack of rim protection. But if you just rocked up to a tyre fitting place and asked for a set of Continental Eco Contacts, you got what you asked for, and it would be a bit unfair to expect the tyre fitter to second-guess your choice.
  40. Oh I fully agree. And the worst offenders of ****e journalism in the UK are the Telegraph, The Express, The Daily Mail and The Sun and, to a lesser degree the Times. All owned by non doms who pay either very little or zero tax in the UK. Nobody should be paying any attention to what they or their hacks have to say or opine on. They only spout whatever agenda the owners pay them to spout.
  41. Merged and moved to here
  42. I think I still have the footage somewhere, when I find it, I don't mind hosting it somewhere, I've nothing to hide.
  43. The quality of journalism these days is appalling, there are many inaccuracies in her article and the one about the ship fire on board the Fremantle Highway, the photos they used is for the Felicity Ace which sank last year!
  44. This is a problem everywhere these days. Years ago we used to have dozens here in Chelmsford, and we were only a town back then, now we're a city, we have just 2. I don't remember when they re engineered people so that they never need a toilet while they're out, every park used to have at least 1 toilet block, now they are a thing of the past.
  45. Dsg service completed today. I bought the parts including the hose to do the job and my mechanic worked his magic. Cost me £180 all in.
  46. You've done well for that battery to last as long as it has. The OEM batteries normally go just outside of the 3 year warranty! Mine did just that a few years ago & of course, changing a battery is no longer a DIY job unless you have the kit to re-code the car after fitting the new battery.
  47. Fit a bigger case size (096) as the battery tray will take 3 different sizes & VAG usually fit the middle size to your engine....You will need to recode the BCM to tell the car the type of battery, the capacity & to alter the serial number coding lines. All info in the first post in this thread I made 8yrs ago.... How to retro-fit a bigger capacity battery to a Mk7 Golf | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum

Sooooo. . As with most people one of the first things I wanted to do was get it CLEAN. I've nothing against dealer prep, but it doesn't come close to what I consider clean. First up. . .Engine bay the engine bay was completely untouched by the dealer, I was told after some damage had been done in the past by cleaning the bays they now don't do them at all (someone clearly got clumsy with the jetwash) All the nooks and crannies were filled with sand, so either the previous owner lived by the coast or was a builder 😅 Anyway - onto the paint
