  1. Crikey, that's more than a bit forensic!!! A couple of months ago my car was cased at 4 oclock in the morning, by a young scummer on a bike, riding up to my car and calling someone to discuss it. It scared me quite a bit if I'm honest, so I took a couple of extra security options and hoped that was enough. Anyhoo a couple of weeks ago while I was at a pretty low point, another young sod on a bike did exactly the same. Face covered, of course and you can't make out the bike properly. It made me think I might bail out of the M3 no car is worth someone breaking into your house and putting a knife to your throat and ask for the keys plus any additional security measures that need to be defeated. I've also just lost my mother and it made me think, life is for the living and there's no second lap of the track, so even though I have had to find some money to complete the deal (PCP) and it's not something I can easily afford, I thought, just do it! So..... I started to look at something less nickable and noticed that the bubble on certain types of cars had just burst. My M3 lost £3.5k in its book value in the last week!! So after much browsing, visiting, emailing and phoning around I got an amazing offer on one of the last unregistered V8 F Types left in the county (very good part ex value too, which surprised me and the dealer ). It has the dreaded white interior, which is a nightmare if I use the car for work, as I wear black jeans and sometimes I jump in the car to get out of the rain. You can imagine what happens with a soaked pair of black jeans on white seats. But it was a compromise worth taking for that engine and those looks. So, the deal has been done and the M3 is going next week (hopefully to a dealer, not a burglar). The Jaaaag certainly won't compete with the M3 in terms of performance, as the Beemer is an astonishing cross-country weapon if the road is reasonably wide. The tech on the F Type is at least one division lower than the M3, possibly two, the sound system isn't as good (well the one in the doors isn't, not the one under the bonnet of course), build quality isn't as good and the engineering doesn't seem anywhere near as classy. I lose 2 doors and half a boot volume, as well as economy goes a bit South. Also, my insurance goes down by 33%, so hopefully I am right and people don't nick Jags as much? But... those looks and that engine
  2. I loved the M3, but loved the older M4 more. Now that was a very lairy car and had the reputation of being a bit of a widow/widower maker. The M3 Xdrive is a massively accomplished car and the cornering grip, traction and 'turn in' were on a different level to any other car I've owned, as well as having an incredibly strong, bulletproof engine. It's also built like a tank. Perhaps it's so good that I feel it lacks a tiny bit of character? It was certainly the best car I've ever owned, but sometimes you just want a really big portion of cottage pie... I can't afford a new V8 from any other manufacture apart from, perhaps, Ford, but the OPF filters have muted and muffled their V8 even more than it has the Jag 😞 Anyhoo I only had a Porsche and/or a V8 on my bucket list before I retire in a few years time, so it had to be done, good or bad, while I still had some earning power.
  3. The key word there is option, that's the price DIFFERENCE between the base spec radio and the Columbus upgrade not the full price of the Columbus - so many people make this mistake.
  4. Yeah... Sorry... I'd just done a 3 hr drive with my 83 year old deaf MIL so needed to wind down a bit... And looking at pictures of F-types to confirm seemed an ideal way to do that.

Hi everyone. Although I've visited this site a few times since buying my first Skoda 3 years ago, I've not actually signed up until now, so this is my first time posting on here. I bought a 2006-reg Roomster 1.9 TDi on 1st Nov 2020, so I've had it almost exactly 3 years now. It had a little under 150,000 miles on the clock when I got her and now she's just under 175,000. I'd love to reach the "double ton" (ie 200K) one day, but that's probably going to take another 3 years or so, given my yearly average of around 8,000 miles. I bought my Roomster during the pandemic, when overseas travel was either impossible or very tricky, so in June 2021 I had the idea of driving to the most northerly, easterly, southerly and westerly points of mainland Britain and did that over 2021 and 2022, covering 3,735 miles in the process. I'm attaching one photo of my car on the long drive up to Dunnet Head, in the far north of Scotland - the first of those four epic road trips. I'm delighted to say that my Roomster performed brilliantly on all four of those trips, with no mechanical issues or annoying warning lights of any kind. The same is true of an epic 2,400-mile round-trip to south-west France (Tarn-et-Garonne) I did last summer, sharing driving duties with another diesel devotee friend of mine. Despite temperatures reaching the high 30's virtually every day, my trusty Roomster got us there and back without any issues. That doesn't mean that I haven't had any issues with my car - I definitely have, and one of the MOT bills was truly eye-watering (over £1000!), but overall, she's got me wherever I've needed to go and I really love my car. There's just something about the sound of that 1.9 TDi engine which I love. I'm looking forward to having more adventures with my Roomster in the years to come.
  7. I do like the look of that… graphite paint and hydro carbons… not a bad last hurrah before electrons.
  8. Jag sure is purdy! 😎😎👍👍 G
  9. I might leave the keys in the Beemer, as it has GAP insurance...I just need a way to figure out how I could claim I wasn't a total pillock and left the keys in the car As it stands I've shoehorned the car in on my drive and jammed another car across the front of it. Only got to last another 4 days. Can't believe how much cheaper the Jag is to insure, though. It's actually cheaper than my Peugeot 3008. I think Direct Line might have made a mistake, will have to chase it up when I get a day off.
  10. ah right, we're 100% electric house, heating is ASHP paying 29p peak and 7.5p off peak. For 7 months of the year we are 100% solar or off peak, the rest we are largely off peak. Today for example because I plugged the car in this morning we had off peak through to 11am which means I was able to refill the house battery and we're still runnng off that at 8.30 pm
  11. Thank you for the trust you are showing us on this forum by opening up on a difficult topic. I'm very pleased it's helping you as you learn to deal with what's happened and how it will affect your life going forward.
  12. Indeed it was. Imagine the claim to be over 100k or there abouts. My car the other car plus his injury claim. Waiting to hear back from police about what is happening possibly careless ban fine or dangerous driving which in Scotland is a ban resit test unlimited fine and jail(highly unlikely). Or might even be dropped don't know in limbo. Can still drive just now although no confidence. My friend asked if I wanted a shot of his car I was eager jamp in the driver's seat then I froze flashed back to what I can remember happened and got out. The whole experience is made me a better person tho. Staying at my mum's the now for help and support. Been good as she's never fully understood me(ADHD) thought I was rude compulsive and quick to temper (I do have a serious temper I snap see red and no one is calming me down till I do so myself worst thing anyone can do is tell me to) not proud of that at all but it's who I am. Since started taking my ADHD meds everyday it helps me focus level headed calm not as compulsive. Mum's finally got me and agrees with me taking them now as before she said it would change me make me like a zombie. Its like having 2 of me unmedicated and medicated. I had 14 years NCB protected so will still have them. First crash never been in bother for driving with the police never been charged for driving had plenty other charges just not for driving. Again sorry about the length of the post I feel it's good to get all this out. Thanks guys
  13. So after week of driving no more reboots!!! The 1941 update worked for me thx all!
  14. I totally agree. I've seen that on most Xenon headlights, in most EU countries the homologation of the vehicle required that they had washers. I think that (depending on each country's road authority) there's a certain threshold for light output (lumens) above which the washers are mandatory - I wouldn't disable that... But on the particular case of Octavia, since you get the same headlight (hence same light output) with and without washers depending on trim level, I would conclude that the car homologation didn't require mandatory washers.
  15. Buy a repair kit from Bigg Red comes with new seals, piston and everything. Less than £20 per corner usually.
  16. Well this is the Kamiq forum and that's what is being discussed. Pointless discussing what other cars do.
  17. I had clunking like that and it turned out to be worn suspension bushes. Heck of a noise going over bumps,
  18. OK so have you finally bought an F-type...??? That picture being a close up of the rear wing, edge of fuel filler door and the start of the wing crease that leads from the rear wing to the top of the door, with the chomey black bit top right being the rear side window bottom trim.
  19. Exhaust heat shield but this is normally a rattle than a clunk. Get another person to sit in every seat and see if they can locate the noise. Try with the parcel shelf missing as well. Thanks. AG Falco
  20. Took delivery of a brand new Sportline plus 190 TSI today- hatch version in meteor grey. Looks absolutely stunning and first thoughts on the drive are that it all seems nice and firm without being too harsh. No rattles unlike my previous A6 which buzzed and rattled like a mad thing on rough roads - hopefully stays this way! The petrol engine sounds and feels great, nice and smooth. Feels like it wants to go like stink mind you, which I've not done yet! Virtual cockpit and ambient lights look fabulous as do the animated front and back lights. Also love the illuminated Skoda projected from the door undersides. Took it easy on the 55 mile journey back home, a mix of motorway and town driving and got a very respectable 42.8mpg, considering the heating, lights and heated seats were all on! I know this will dip during town driving and I'm not going to get obsessed with it, but as I said in the OP if i get an overall average of 40ish I'll be quite happy with that. No more adblue and regens- and a much nicer quieter engine. I'm really delighted to have adaptive cruise back - had it on my old L&K but didn't have it in the A6. When I hit traffic tonight, I stuck it on and let the car do the work. Really missed that. Thanks to all for your advice on this thread and others, and it's great to be back in the Skoda fold!
  21. Then you have the excellent twin-headlight lamp units. These were not available on any Up!, AFAIK, so a score for Skoda (not sure about Seat) Your best legal course is Nightbreakers or similar. Stick to Philips or Osram - works out cheaper in the long run. The brighter these bulbs claim to be, the shorter their life, so don't max out.
  22. New tyres, new car. Have you checked the tyre pressures the car was handed over with and set them to your needs?
  23. I'm on Greta's personal hit list now Still pinching myself a bit
  24. No, don't do it; don't buy a Cashcow!
  25. Driving in Low Emission zones with the cars that are only low emissions because of Kidology then maybe use the EV mode in them. Like when they come in in Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen like it is now in Glasgow. PS There are some 7 kW chargers in Scotland under 25 pence a kWh and also free ones, Charge Place Scotland. / Park & Rides and others. Not Edinburgh City though which has ridiculous tariffs. People do sit hours charging @ 7 or 11 kW with EV,s but when there are limited numbers people get peed off at a Hybrid sitting all day or night taking 3.6 kW.
  26. Yes, If your standard tariff for electricity is 27 pence a kWh then 27 pence each kWh. So if you get 11 kWh of a charge that is £2.97 If you were to get a Off peak night time tariff of 9 pence a kWh and get 5 kWh charged in the off peak time then 45 pence.
  27. Well said Mike. I hope things go well for you DieselVRS 👍
  28. Heated windscreen button would be the blank above the menu button. No button = no heated windscreen.
  29. Hopefully you have some way of talking through the non-forum stuff but if not, do please look for a way to achieve this. Trauma left buried within does come back to bite us in the ar$e; been there, done that. Got some good T-shirts for sale, too
  30. Yeah am finding it beneficial to share what's happened how it's affected me mentally physically and financially. I've been a member for a few years but only really used this for info but everyone seems supportive and willing to help. Obviously I've not shared everything with you all as some things I don't want to share on an open online forum everyone can see but what I have has helped.
  31. The MINI is doing wonderful on water logged roads and torrential rain. I just need to remember not to open the windows until all the water is off the roof, so just a bit of acceleration clears that. My young lads BMW i am looking after just got new discs fitted and i took it out for a wee run and really i will stick in this weather to the Mini with the 205 wide tyres suited to the wet and front wheel drive rather than the hearse.
  32. I had a Fullfat Rangerover for those years and it was actually nearly compeltely reliable in that time. I had one warranty claim for a baggy leather seat and one repair which was a misaligned tailgate. That was apparently quite common as the motors are not always equal twisting the plastic panel. They wouldn't take a warranty claim on that. What was uncovered in routine servicing was that JLR at the factory had put the brakes pads in wrong. Two outers on one wheel and two inners on the other.
  33. 74K posts of nonsense.

On one side yes, but don't forget EV cars are quite a bit heavier than ICE which will add extra load. It also depends how heavy footed you are with braking. With anticipation & careful driving you can barely use the mechanical brake but stab at the pedal and you are using both especially in a hybrid.
  35. I have a similar car, with the CAXA engine (1.4TSI) currently at 180K km. No issues whatsoever (owned it since 56K km). Any questions let me know. Its a very pokey yet economical engine, loves 7,500km oil changes, i'd recommend a oil flush if its been sitting around doing little for 13 years. It probably has the OAM gearbox, which the mechatronic oil can be changed every 60K km (easy DIY, 1.7L of fluid - 15 mins). Replace the brake fluid if it hasn't been done. The timing chain is not an issue if the oil change intervals (thus the tensioner) has been kept good. I get no rattle, no issues. I have vcds and can measure any issues and there is none. Never had a single code. I get 5.3L/100km on average, 6.3 if i give it a bit. The 1.4TSI with the 7 speed DSG is a really good product IMHO. 30K km is brand new. But change all the fluids. Here is the service/maintenance manual mate. Skoda Octavia II – Maintenance.pdf
  36. I bought the 100% more version - still working after 2 years and the light output & beam pattern is pretty good. Bear mind, like dB's and watts on a stereo, it's a diminishing return - I probably wouldn't notice the difference in the real world between +100 and +150. My guess is +200 is pushing reliability. I can't help wondering if in fact these may be all the same bulbs but "binned" during the production test process - some brighter, some less less bright, so they go into different packaging. I don't really know about bulbs, but this is standard procedure for things like CPU or memory chips of varying speeds or power consumption....
  37. You shouldn't have to, but given the two visits from scrotes, might it be an idea to keep it elsewhere until next week? Different level, but we looked after my Daughter's motorbike while she was away in Kenya recently, for fears that it wouldn't be there when she got back. Gaz

There is a set procedure on a diagnostic tool to bleed the coolant system. most including garages say they ‘don’t need it’ but air pockets can form in the system in places you wouldn’t instantly notice if the procedure isn’t ran. Id be checking they ran the coolant vent procedure first. If not it may be a possibly partially blocked heater matrix
  39. Me too mate, but on the odd occasion I forget it’s really no issue…..certainly not life or death like some on here seem to think🙄😂😂

  42. Good tyres can be great, but sometimes even with the best you have to screw the nut. You are only tanking your TDI up to 60 mph or so. If they spin under hard acceleration then they might well have you off the road into corners. Winter is coming even in the south and the best summer or even wet weather tyres can be sh!te for some road conditions, temperatures and surfaces.
  43. Local reservoir this evening..........
  44. I posted this on another tyre thread a couple of months ago; Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6. I've been using Eagle F1's since before they were asymmetric. I don't / won't buy anything else. Excellent grip, relatively quiet, wear well and work surprisingly well down to really cold temps (I've driven a BMW 330i in slushy snow on them with no problems). https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-6.htm

Hi Softscoop and thanks for your message yesterday. Yeah, I enjoyed all five of those road trips I did in 2021 and last year, and I'm already dreaming up future ones..... Yeah, those cornering lights (which also serve as fog lamps) are pretty cool and I think one of the previous owners must've swapped the original clear plastic for yellow ones (see attached photo), rather like headlights used to be in France before the bureaucrats at the EU forced them to fall in line with all the other member states and switch to boring white - a sad day for individuality and difference. Strange though it might sound, those "phares jaunes" were one of the reasons I loved going to France as a child in the 80's. I can't imagine my Roomster left the factory in Kvasiny with yellow cornering lights/fog lamps! And yes, you're by no means the first person to describe the legendary 1.9 TDi engine in my car as "bulletproof" - it seems to be the adjective of choice when it comes to that engine, and with good reason. I have total faith that the engine is easily capable of doing another 100,000 miles - it's just the rest of my 17-year old car that I'm not so sure about! Wouldn't it be great if the engine was the only part of a car that could go wear out or go wrong, but as any car owner knows only too well, there are literally hundreds of other parts that can malfunction and cause headaches.....

  50. All the ngk plugs I have replaced on vw and skoda over last 10 years are a flat washer gasket design. You can use the torque spec but equally on the plug packaging you will find the rule of thumb regards tightening after bottoming. Look at the instructions on the plug packet. If you have the mfr service guide and a torque wrench by all means use that. And when working on cars or any other me mechanical device you have to pay attention to the type of fastener you're dealing with. A torque wrench for example doesn't stop you cross threading. If I am following a rule of thumb I'd also be judicious if it felt too tight.
