  1. Just spotted them overhead - right before the black clouds rolled in https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-67788217
  2. Oh sorry, thought it was an open group… I will try to upload to another platform. Yes the dealer has booked it for two days actually in January, I know the owners and I’m responsible for all our cars at the firm I work for and we buy all our cars from them, so the dealer are real concerned about me/us. Thanks for your input, I will surely take this to the dealer !
  3. It clearly shows that the garage appears to be ablaze and a vehicle is at the front or outside and no view of how long that garage is or how far it goes back and if attached or detached and if the utilities are at the rear or it is drive through and out to a BBQ area or whatever. Another one that will come out in the wash. .................. Truth of my EV, getting fully charged now @ about £6.00, and over the next week half the electricity needed to charge it will cost £0.00 & half is going to be@55 pence, 69 pence or even 75 pence a kWh. About 250 miles worth to pay for getting maybe 3.5 miles a kWh.
  4. Like the car park fires the main thing I draw from the NZ fire as well as the car parks is the lack of fire detection and or fire fighting equipment. These beach properties often contain lots of timber in their construction and yet if they had had good sprinkler system, which would have added 1 or 2% to the overall cost and limited the fire to one room or so. I have spent many days on firefighting courses as part of my at sea training, no point ringing 999 when the nearest fire service is more than a thousand miles away. The courses I have done, a lot wearing a BA set whilst fire fighting, gave me a huge respect of fire but apparently to some it is is not something that is considered important.
  5. Freind of mine added it when he got a new kia ,turned out to be a total waste of money ,first time he tried to claim after he curbed an alloy it was rejected as it only covered minor scratches ,he had not read the small print ,so i reccomened you do first 👍
  6. When you are already parked, it will do the “unparking” manoeuvre for you. But you have to press the button first. So either you pressed the button by accident, or there is some malfunction (loose wire etc) that did it for you.
  7. And Vehicle-2-Home, I got my trial V2H bi-directional charger installed for just £1600, the AC-DC inverter itself costs way more than that. Thanks everyone 😛 It definitely works. First whole bill with it installed. Only 4% on not-cheap tariff, everything else on cheap tariff. Effective cost for me is just 8.14p/kWh +VAT for all electricity I've used. Again, thanks everyone for your tax contribution. 😛
  8. Are electric cars relatively expensive or cheap ?? How about an ID7 for less than £30k rather than £60K ? Chinese buyers are not buying the ID7 even at just below £30k as they have high tech Chinese versions of a similar size at less than £25K. So are European made and sold EVs just not being made in an economic way or prices kept high ? France and Germany just discontinued EV subsidies for Chinese made EVs, presumably some TESLAs as well as Dacia Spring maybe and the BYDs, Geely cars ie Polestar and Volvos and SIAC cars such as MG4s and Maxus. Tesla just slashes prices again to keep the costs low and win that best selling car of the year status for the Model Y.
  9. Plonked in the middle between the White L shaped house to the left and the big green / blue house to the right is it not. So not actually there, just trees , about 4 sheds / garages / shacks on Google Earth.
  10. Yep I got the reg and it is also a cffb. So it work out nicely 😎
  11. Good to finally see a photo from Oz or NZ the correct way up! 😄 I cannot for the life of me orientate myself on the Google earth image, which house is the one that torched?
  12. I'm not sure where these fit, but Peugeot 208s and Skoda Scalas have been used as private hire cars (not Ubers, real private hire) in Greater Glasgow.
  13. 2 points
It was to the OP - I'll take your advice on suspension mods but possibly not on max towing weights 😉
  14. Looks like we have the beginnings of a Brisky prowl 🦁 G
  15. ABS Controller (03) is these:- ABS, ESP according to the dashboard I had low pressure in the tires, according to the dashboard Central electronics controller (09) will be this:- Rear lights (including brake lights) Blinkers (including hazard lights) Interior lighting Dashboard lighting Screen wipers Sounds like your battery has a problem..or the main earth cable from the battery to the car body
  16. Just found this new video that has done some actual tests on after market lamps v OEM the results might surprise you.
  17. I have just bought a 2014 mk3 1.6 tdi. I had the same problem with poor heater and discoloured coolant in the expansion tank. i tried the heater flap reset but this did not cure the problem. After trawling this forum it looked like the heater matrix was the fault. i checked the coolant pipes at the bulkhead as they go through into the heater matrix and they were just better than luke warm. I did a ring round of the usual suppliers and the best i could get a matrix for was £90 inc vat. I'm in the trade so this was with trade discount. buycarparts.co.uk kept popping up on my browser so i thought i would take a look. The company is based in Germany but their prices are much much cheaper than anyone else. So i typed my reg number in and was given something like 15 options of manufacturer of a heater matrix that would fit my car. I opted for the cheapest one £20.99 inc vat plus delivery of £8.50 3-5 working days. it was manufactured by VAN WEZEL based in Belgium (checked their website). Part came 4 days later unboxed it and all looked ok. drained the coolant from the car and removed and binned the mit silikat expansion bottle. a Quick shake of the bottle revealed the bag was still in there but it was the one placed between the walls of the bottle so no chance of getting it out. A new bottle was sourced from GSF as they had a deal on but in hindsight i should have ordered it from Germany and just paid one lot of postage. Coolant system was flushed out with the hose pipe until it ran clear and left to drain. Moving inside the car i removed the glovebox which was very tricky but i later watched a youtube video and it could have been a lot easier but i got it out with no damage and all of my skin still on my fingers. The side trim for the centre console was removed, one t20 screw and the panel just unclipped. there was a foam trim under the heater motor that was held in with two plastic wing nut type screws this came off to reveal the heater motor that needs to come out to enable the matrix to be removed. The motor is held in with 3 t20 screws and there are two clips that need easing away to enable the heater to drop down but before this you need to unplug the power connector underneath. Sorry forgot to say before the heater motor comes out there is a heater vent that directs air to the passenger feet, this needs to come out and there is one t20 screw that holds it in, the screw faces you just by the fusebox, once this is out you have to contort the vent out after pulling it free of the heater box. It was a bit fiddly but it came out ok. With all these parts out if you look towards the centre console side of the dash you will see the heater matrix pipes. covering the heater matrix is an oblong black cover held on with 3 t20 screws. the screws need removing and there are 3clips that also secure the panel. I covered the floor area with a plastic sheet to contain any leaks from when the matrix pipes were removed. The pipes are secured by a clip and a clamp. the top pipe has a clip that has a locking tab that needs to be lifted before the clip can be slid backwards to remove. The bottom pipe has a clamp that is held together with a 3mm allen bolt. Before removing the pipes there is a plastic piece that bolts to the transmission tunnel (it's what the t20 screw that holds the centre console trim screws into) peel the carpet back and there are 2 10mm nuts that need to be removed. Once this is out of the way it gives more movement of the heater pipes as they need to be moved to enable the matrix to slide out. A quick tug on the pipes frees them from the matrix along with 200ml of coolant ( i had an old ice cream tub on hand to catch as much as i could). Once the pipes are removed you can then unclip the oblong cover that covers the end of the matrix. It has a green seal all the way around presumably to help seal the air into the heater box. As stated earlier the pipes need to be jiggled around and the matrix should slide out towards the heater motor housing, it will hit the housing but then a slight movement downwards will let it come past and the matrix is out. I looked inside and could not see any blockages but when i filled it with water it did not flow very well. Fitting the new matrix is basically a reversal of the procedure above. things to be careful about are: when sliding the new matrix back in be sure to get your head right up behind the matrix to make sure the top pipe is not fouling the fins on the back of the matrix as this will hinder it going back in. The new matrix i got seemed a little tighter to fit than the old one that came out but i took my time and made sure it went in evenly to make sure it was fully home. remember then the oblong cover needs to go on before any pipes are fitted. I cleaned the pipes and re used the old o ring seals and just put a tiny smear of rubber grease on the o rings which helped them slide back into the new matrix part number of the seal and clamp kit is 5Q0-898-400-A same part number whether sourced from VW SEAT or SKODA but VW are the cheapest at £5.51 whereas Seat and SKODA wanted £9.91!! getting the top clip on for the pipe was easy but the bottom one gave me a bit of pain. I think because it was slightly out of round where i had removed it but i took it back off and fitted it to the old matrix to make sure it was shaped properly. After all this i refilled the coolant and what i am about to type may not be to everyone's liking but i filled the coolant with G12 as it's what we use on the commercial vehicles we repair that have aluminium radiators. Also we run a fleet of VW caddy vans and i checked our 67 plate caddy that has the same engine as my octavia and the coolant tank on the caddy states G12?? Unfortunately i did not get any pictures but there are videos on youtube of this repair being done. Book time is 1.4hours, probably doable if you worked at skoda but i would allow 3 hours to comfortably do it. like most things if you take your time and watch youtube so you have an idea of what is involved then doing the matrix on one of these is not a scary prospect. Tools wise i used T20 screwdriver 10mm socket and ratchet 1/4 drive ratchet with T20 bit for rearmost heater motor screw Flat blade screwdriver 3mm allen key Torch and that's it! Heater now works a treat with heat evenly at both sides. Hope this helps
  18. Neither am I, but my sons are of a similar size to me, hence I went fit the Superb. It were just me, I'd go with something like a XJ6 😉
  19. That "White Meter" is not a tarif in the UK. Intelligent Octopus Go gives you six hours of cheap, green energy from 11.30 pm to 5.30 am every night at a super low rate of 7.5p per kWh
  20. Not at all. I think these bullsh!tters are quite easy to spot as they seem to have similar modus operandi. They make assertions without quoting facts or credible sources and just seem to largely give their opinions. EVs are much less a self combusting fire risk than diesel or petrol cars. Hybrids that are diesel or petrol have the similar risks to pure diesels or petrols. I am not pro electric just for the sake of it. My EV costs a small fraction of my mild hybrid to run. It is very pleasant to drive. My hybrid, with its 600 mile range is good for longer journeys, even more comfortable than my little EV. I do not need a muppet to tell me their "facts". I have not heard one of them inform their credentials to comment on such subjects ie technical experts, owners of such vehicles etc. My time is precious and I can establish within a few seconds watch their videos that they are vacuous entities and not worthy of my attention. Plenty of other good sources and whilst not perfect I listen to the Electric Viking who details are verifiable and concise and informative. Each to their own but I will not be watching what I perceive as trash.
  21. The X350 generation is a little more roomy than the earlier cars, although rear leg room is no comparison with a Superb. I had always wanted an XK8, but very cramped inside, to the point of being impractical (for me). After so many glorious cars it's painful to consider Jaguar now only make SUV's😒
  22. How do you mean tax contribution ? What is the VAT rate on the bi-directional charger ? Octopus continue to do great facilities for its users. I have just got £50 credit for getting one family member off British Gas and on to Octopus, BG were holding back nearly a grand in credit and would not let them have a lower DD. Visiting another family member who has a Heat Pump house so going to get him over to the Cozy Heat pump tariff which should save him a heap of money and give me another chunk of introduction bung ie £50 for them and £50 for me too, nice. Converting my octoverse points in to credit on to my account after each savings session so along with the above intro credits I am hoping to avoid any rise in my DD this winter.
  23. The bi-halogen uses a single bulb for high and low beam, using a shutter to switch between them. There is no space in that housing for another bulb. At least some vRS models got a unit with projector low beam and a separate reflector high beam but that was only on that model.
  24. Mine: Maximun HP at 5513 rpm and maximum torque at 4186 rpm (Dyno) Stock: 5500 rpm and 3950 rpm (Dyno) Few options, i will think about it in the next oil change. Total describes it as "high performance multi-grade oilor passenger car, designed to exceed recent engine lubrication requirements for mineral engine oils." _____________________________ When someone says in a topic but keeps posting only to provoke people means one thing: as a kid he felt from a banana tree or coconut palm, hit his head and now the consequences appear.
  25. So you knew where the power curves and figures were on those two occasions from the two particular rolling road(s) as they and your car were at that those particular times to give you some idea unless you have changed things on the car since to make a significant difference you will have a reasonable idea allowing for age, wear and tear since. Sorry I missed this bit in your post. You will I'm sure be happier with this oil and certainly through winter and perhaps even summer but I'm sure we will hear reports back. Just for the pre-established sake of looking at the numbers - Eneos Premium 10W-40 Synthetic Kinematic viscosity (40°C) - 99.6 mm2 /s Kinematic viscosity (100°C) - 14.7 mm2 /s Viscosity index - 154 (API SL/CF, VW 500.00/505.00) - "Note: The above typical properties may be changed without notice. (February 2006)" - https://oilgroupbg.com/pdf/eneos/eneos-premium-10w40.pdf I could not find Premium as a current oil on Eneos Europe's website for a more up to date spec sheet but this was the result of the oil selection search for as near as I could get with their system for your car, note the alternatives, should warm you up on a cold day, 😁 - https://jx-nippon-uk.ewp.earlweb.net/equipment/felicia_estate_ii_1_3_50kw_FawEcWamX
  26. If its is a case of reflections, then clearly the system would have been tested for it to detect signs. It is booked in with Skoda on 1st January so will see what they come up with. Cheers
  27. Nothing abnormal. It all depends on who starts the engine😎 Since you asked, the abnormal part in this topic can only be cured by a good psychiatrist.
  28. So that the car can perform a "safe reverse parking manoeuvre" without driver intervention. I, too, would prefer it to wait to be asked before starting to give you instructions and steering itself.
  29. That made me chuckle 😄 I was laughing not because you did not know about the system but imaging myself in that situation, I would not want to drive the car any further! However as someone whose default response to being told what to do (without why) is "shan't!" then I would be immune to such intrusions!
  30. It's the auto park feature. There is a button next to the sensor/camera button near the gear selector for this. Tried it once. Didn't offer much other than stress. Never bothered again.
  31. Well what you think is the garage, is the small building towards the right of the photo with what looks like pool or pond just to the left of it? That is part of the building that was there was there before the newer house was built and is at 90 degrees to destroyed house. The actual garage in the video was at the top left hand corner of the house was in the same direction as the house, left to right.
  32. You need to replace the struts, fit a module, create a custom wiring loom, boot latch and additional motor, interior trim and button and all the additional coding, dataset and calibration. all in for new genuine parts it’s around £1000 before labour is added.
  33. I've always loved the shape of the XJ series, it's no wonder they used to regularly win the coveted best looking luxury car award. I used to work for a company where the boss had a stunning XJ6 and I'd often get to drive it and what a car it was too. I could never quite get my head around the fact that for a car that was over 5 metres long and wide, the actual passenger space was not as large as that in a Superb. But they do have a magic carpet ride.
  34. In the late 70s I used to see this lovely bridge about twice a month when I used to visit Middlesborough as part of my regular route, but I was never lucky enough to it in action.
  35. Mine is a little older, although is a V8 too😁
  36. Is the A3 engine on an ebay listing? If so, sellers sometimes give reg number or VIN of origin vehicle in the auction details section. Either can lead to the full code.
  37. Could be good for those who want a full battery every morning. It must be better for the battery to be charged from low capacity than from half full. Plug it in when you come home the grid takes back the 50% not used at peak time, paying you more than you paid for it, then fully charges it for morning?
  38. As well as having individual light switches, my (albeit 2018) Golf has a separate switch in the overhead binnacle which stops the internal lights from coming on - as in, in the way you describe. Not just switched off are they? Gaz
  39. All sorted now well she drives ok, it was the Map sensor had was to fault it had damp in it and was loose and pins corroded and replaced it he also checked it all over the battery had only 60% charge but was ok, cleaned down fault codes and all seems ok. If I can give a plug for the garage I have always had very good service if you live in the area it is - STANTON AUTOMOTIVE UNIT 10 LAKE SIDE INDUSTRAL EST NEW MEADOW RD REDDITCH B988YW
  40. Just for now Keith, why not fit a new Touch Screen Digitizer For VW Skoda MIB2 MIB STD2 Radio Multimedia Navi 6.5'' eBay item number:384454830977 £23.40 With radio removed it's just an easy 30 minute job. At least you will get a few months more out of it.
  41. Try one you'll be surprised. 110bhp 126lbft plus another 4bhp and 37lbft (114bhp 163lbft total) from the hybrid part all in 960kg with all modern safety features you can think of (lane keep, autonomous braking, radar active cruise etc). Its light years ahead of the tweaked Fabia 1.9 TDI and Octavia 2.0TDIs we had
  42. 1.4 16v and the 1.2s are all ULEZ compliant as Euro 4, think the 1.4 8v and 2.slow were the same. Brochure is somewhere...
  43. I can vouch for a late 2013 1.2TSI 105BHP Leon 5 door hatch, we got the SE Tech. Has Nav. iPod/phone/USB connection. Think SD card too. LED front and rear lights. Nice looking motor. 6 Speed manual. Proper handbrake. Arm rest jumbo box. Cruise control. Nice maxidot type computer and more on stereo. MF Steering Wheel. All important cam belt not chain engine, was a factor for me. On a run can do 50MPG or more, around town can vary say 35-40, but I can eeek 45-50 out of it. Being a petrol not much torque like the diesels, so you need to rev high to get decent poke. But it’s no slouch. 2 adults and 2 teens has started to feel a little underpowered sometimes. I would get the 1.4 125bhp FR next looks the part and some more horses. It’s our only ULEZ car for Bham and London. All 3 of mine are still diesels. Good luck with your search.
  44. You can count me in that group. I recently pulled in to a Blue Badge bay at Sainsbury's, only to have a bloke shaking his head at me. As I got out the car he commented that BB bays were for 'the disabled' (his words). As I got my walking stick out and hobbled off I simply said 'Yep'. He said 'Oh, sorry mate!' and his wife/partner/other gave him a clip around the ear 😁 Anyways, my car of the day has got to be my next door but one neighbour's 2007 Peugeot 307 HDi. Bought eight or so years ago at 132,000 miles, now at 229,000 miles, still on it's original clutch, doesn't miss a beat, lost 5th gear several years back, but doesn't make a song and dance about it. I've just gone to grab a photo of it and he's gone out, so I'll snap it later for posterity as he's planning to change it very soon (I've told him he's mad to and should really be aiming at 300k). Gaz
  45. Yes, quite common to use bit more fuel when engine is new and tight for first 2000 miles 350 miles is just under a tankful, probably not going to be that accurate unless you filled it to exactly same point. Probably find the fuel gauge doesn't drop for about first 80 miles when fully filled, and someone might have filled it about 8-10 litres short, but was showing as full.
  46. Not really a myth, I've had 2 VAG cars throw a glowplug light and both times it was the brake light switch on the pedal, replacing them cleared the light, they are a one shot fit, although it was a 2003 Passat and a 2004 Golf so maybe they redesigned the brake light switch?
  47. We went to Blenheim Palace today. Highlight for me was seeing this 1990 900 S: Not perfect, but lovely to see all the same 😎 We got caught in the M40 Southbound carnage on the way home. Added two and a half hours to our journey, with over two hours to do just under two miles. Sounded pretty serious with major work needed to repair the central barrier. Lots of people seemed to think it was okay to put their hazard lights on and go along the hard shoulder to get ahead of the rest of us. Gaz
  48. 1 point
My independent VW garage flushed my coolant after I realised I had lack of heat on drivers side and coolant was odd colour, soon after the cambelt got changed. Two bottles of Wynnflush, put on the new expansion tank, had it for a full day to get it hot and cold to do it twice, lent me a car, for £112 all in
  49. Picked up the Lava Blue (Petrol) Combi iV from the dealer today, so far so good
  50. Until the court case is heard I am not allowed to comment on my defence for not knowing one hole from another.
