  1. Sold my mk3 to friends on Tuesday! It had been my best Octavia I'd ever owned! Car 9 on owners register thread. It did object on the day, as the microswitch that opens the boot failed! I picked up a mk4 on Wednesday! It's my 5th Octavia since 1999.
  2. A few other shots from yesterday.....
  3. Your vehicle likely has around 30 control modules. Each one of them has it's own software The infotainment unit is just 1 of those control modules. (Technically 2, as the display has its own software).
  4. Caffyns are listing the "Black Metallic Alaris 6Jx16 ET38 5/100 57.1 alloy rim 654071496A FL8" for £184.60 including VAT. This is over 20% more than the Czech price shown on "skoda eshop cz". Notice that this OEM part number has the format xxx071xxx which shows that it comes from the "Skoda alloy rim accessory catalogue". If the format is xxx061xxx it doesn't come from the accessory catalogue, and is likely to be more than twice the price. Some alloy rims in the accessory catalogue are identical to the factory rims, except for the OEM part number cast into them. With others, it might only be that the colour is different. The black Alaris alloy rim isn't available as a factory alloy rim, but is exclusively available in the accessory catalogue. However, the silver Alaris is available as both a factory rim and from the accessory catalogue. For this reason, if you order a new Skoda, make sure the alloy rims that come with the car are also available from the accessory catalogue so that if you need a single replacement the price will likely be less than half the factory alloy rim price. The reason that the Skoda alloy rims in the accessory catalogue are far more affordable than the factory rims is because Skoda is using their accessory catalogue to complete on price with the aftermarket alloy rim market.
  5. It's that time of year (again)!!! 😁: Before: During: After: Not perfect, but they're six years old now, and live outside. I like shiny Gaz
  6. How about one of these for a true city car? I agree with Jack, I used to have one of the cars predecessors, an Isetta, almost identical in looks and concept but with a small ICE power plant.
  7. This is good. Really. Whatever is happening with good intentions is always beneficial for everyone. Even if few people or even just one person will benefit from this it’s a win. Thanks again.
  8. "Investing" in Scottish land, forests has been one of the key tax dodges for UK earners to the tune of many millions as you get your money out a couple of years later avoiding as much as 47% tax on it. Very popular tax avoidance scheme which is legal. I would think there is no shortage of money to invest in such schemes. Locals paying higher taxes is common though like water rates in the SW of England to basically provide enough water for Emmets and Grockels ie visitors, not fair but part of the price of living in the best parts of the UK.
  9. A few from Calke Abbey this afternoon...........
  10. No codes needed for the radio. It's all hard coded and only a dealer system can change it.
  11. Personally I’d leave the battery in place and charge so that any permanent live systems stay on. May be other considerations that others will state though
  12. A few from Attenborough nature reserve............
  13. Sorry, but what does “fried” mean? This is a standard VAG rear caliper, used on literally dozens of VAG models, not a £75,000 Red Bull F1 unit (yeah, that was fried!).
  14. As part of preplanning for tomorrow, looks like a 24mm socket is used for the DSG oil filter housing, so scrambled in the garage to find one, and left it there ready: Installed the sump plug: So I've used one of the green viton o-rings to replace the black one there, and tightened the plug until it slotted into the notch as above. I suppose it prevents needing to check up on torque settings, but doesn't sit right with me. I'll probably get used to it after a few years. Whilst under there, removed the undertray at the front, 5 torx screws, with a central one tucked up a little: This should mean easy access to drain the coolant. One thing I bought recently was a set of 5l oil pourers: Most of the cars I have usually have a 4.5l refill capacity, and this is the first car I've owned which has more, so I'm hoping this pourer helps in terms of dishing out quantities, in addition to having a lovely long spout so I don't risk making a mess. I have some of this old Quantum stuff from a few years back when I did the wife's old Seat Ibiza. It is VW 504 and 507, which doesn't really mean much to me. I'll add fuel to the fire by topping up with some 5w40 rated VW 505. I'm not fussed, and I'll probably interchange between 5w30 and 5w40 depending on what oil I have in surplus. Decanting the entire contents has shown its a little over 5l, so probably may well be enough as is. This particular engine doesn't have a deep oil filling area, and has some bits which I presume is to reduce splashing when oil is poured in. This meant I couldn't really shove the spout in there and let it rip, so still had to pour it slowly, albeit with a little more accuracy with the spout. Left an oil drain pan under the sump and will leave overnight to assess if the o-ring has done enough of a job. So that's it for the day. I also went through all the suspension bolts and liberally sprayed some plus gas on them, in anticipation of stuff in the future. So the strut bolts and all the anti roll bar stuff essentially. I'll probably want to try and extract the rear anti roll bar tomorrow so I can ascertain a suitable replacement part. Oh, and I guess I need to remove parts of the left trim again to access the subwoofer so I tighten it down properly, and figure out the rear seat releases. If I'm lucky, may be able to drain some more stuff and maybe even refill it! Maintenance: £1806.50 Upgrades: £1020.69 Miscellaneous: £631.67
  15. ESSO Super unleaded is distributed by Greenergy in Scotland which produces Tesco Momentum 99 & are part owned by Tesco. But the e5 is more expensive than the e10 but can be cheaper than others e5 at some filling stations. The Gulf Super Unleaded is fine but same story, cost. Check Petrol Prices.com I used to get Super Unleaded at the Esso beside Hillend or Gulf at Liberton Brae but only when i was not using Tesco Momentum 99.
  16. Always what I use on the Yeti. Agreed they are the way to do it. Sometimes I do the ABS Bleed procedure too using VCDS but that no doubt really is unnecessary, but with both front nipples accessible makes little difference other than needing 4L of Fluid.
  17. I have a copy but you can get a copy from @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits
  18. even worse(unless you are aware if what needs doing/additional checking). Buying a low mileage older car where rubber stuff etc has been deteriorating quietly underneath due to lack of use.

Hello from a recently purchased owner of a 2020 Karoq SE L 1.0 petrol manual in mud covered white. Owned a wide selection diesel estates over the last 20+ years, but the last on had the infamous dpf blockage due to my yearly mileage lessening, so converted to petrol. It was a toss up between Octavia, Kamiq and Karoq but the vario flex seats sold it for me.
  20. Great explanation 👌
  21. I'm reasonably sure that the automatic levelling system will operate from the basepoint set on the manual adjustment knobs - so your new manual settings should stay the same.
  22. the plug on the trailer wires are subject to movement and the weather, oxidation . a couple of times i have had to re-do the connections in the plug on my caravan for one wire or another for individual lamps, but the earth wires would stop the lot.
  23. It is quite common with BEV,s. It is why the Fleet of RAC & AA vehicles that can put some charge into them is growing. The vehicles i see with responders are usually locked in at chargers or have been charging and shut down and unable to be moved. Then there are those locked out. Usually it is just AA or RAC attending and after trying to start the cars or trying plugging in and doing a reset then calling for a recovery vehicle. eg All day before being recovered by someone not prepared for a BEV and without any idea which were the drive wheels and all 4 wheels were locked / braked. Weeks to get fixed. * The Recall was out for quite a while without Keepers being told of the Recall and even though the car was recovered because locked in gear and non start the car was returned without the RECALL ACTION having been carried out.*
  24. You do not have to be much of a user to be better off overall ie think it is about 3 kwh a day of standard or daytime rate on dual rate tariffs like mine and one is better off under the new rates. I use about 6 Kwh during a normal day but more than 20 kWh when charging the EV on the 9 p per kWh tariff which is staying the same from Monday but it is gas that will be the big saver where I can see I have been averaging 55 kWh in March so just under £5 a day but that is going to drop by almost a quarter so my April bill should drop from a typical £130 to more like £100 which is very nice. Hardly encourages the switch to cleaner fuels ie renewable but I will keep working on getting a heat pump set up and especially now they have drop the silly need for 11 inches of loft insulation. Hope to get one before next winter. May need a second EV charger I think and this time go for a full 7.4 kWh one rather than the miserly 3.7 kWh one I currently have which suits the little Zoe. With electricity at around 24p per kWh I can use the pre-conditioning of the EV just before the journey rather than have it start cold before the journey. It is forgotten that inflation has been between 11% and 4% quite recently and therefore some prices rises must be expected to meet wage rises of workers. Benefits and pensions are going up quite a bit in April of course.
  25. Earth wire in the trailer plug?
  26. Price per kWh going down, but standing charge price going up.
  27. This is something I've pointed out several times on here, many owners seem to think that updating the visible infotainment software updates the whole car - it does not! So quoting the infotainment software version when discussing many other problems e.g engine or ABS is irrelevant.
  28. The OP could do worse then try selling it via Motorway. I did that with my Ceed recently and got above the estimate when their auction finally closed.
  29. Thank you for help, have a good Easter
  30. Do it. No problem. In fact I think this will be great for everyone. The true is, the info here is scattered all over the place and if will be summarized in a way of a guide that would be much easier for others not to lose track of the point while reading.

OTOH it is 4 years old, and I'd certainly consider that as lifetime for the spark plugs. How much is 1 (one) coil pack against the trade price of a working car?
  32. Good points about the (to me PITA) electronic handbrakes which I had forgot about (or blank from my mind) and about judging things by photos and over the internet, better made than my clumsy attempt at the same. Up to Ian to decide if and what work, if any, he needs/wants done, could be either end of what's been suggested or something in the middle. On our own cars we might do as we've suggested or we might do differently, perhaps as others have suggested, none of us are the other person, what might be right for one person may be less suitable for another person. If my wife has any concerns about something on her car that she drives it's of no matter if that something doesn't cause me concern.
  33. @Rooted just seen why you were confused, I've just noticed the Vauxhall badge on the wheel, I thought they were wheels on the Picanto. 😄 Perhaps I should go to SpecSaver instead of the expensive local independent optician but I do have wonky eyes so need extra care with lenses, even if I got less expensive frame (easily possible) lenses are still expensive, few people see me in my glasses as I can't afford to wear them out. 😆
  34. I can confirm, my SOS module crashed constantly but since the Telematics update was applied it has been rock solid
  35. You'll require both a telematics update and an infotainment update. The telematics update cannot be done DIY It's likely you have multiple other modules with outstanding updates We can carry all of the updates out and record them against the vehicles build info.

Hi all, I'm a proud owner of a MK3 Octavia vrs on a 2016 plate. It's my first Skoda after falling for the Octavia driving one as a pool car for work.
  37. First impressions are success, but the 'tweaks' were very much 'experimental' and probably overdone, and more tweaking is necessary. Hopefully no more flashing!
  38. What’s the mileage on the car? What’s the rest of the car like, so the interior and bodywork like? The Christmas tree lights on the dash could also be caused by a failed wheel sensor. I’d be very sceptical that the caliper needs to be replaced; ask them exactly how it’s been damaged.
  39. Leave the battery in place. With the ctek you’ll get an M6 eyelet quick charge, put one of the terminals on the positive and the other on the chassis in the post below The rear discs being crap is very common, caliper failure not so much and will be fairly pricey I imagine. Get that sorted and the compartment under the seat sorted and hopefully you’ll start to like the car. It’s always horrible getting a car when your gut is saying don’t, but hopefully that’s the only issues you’ll have with it
  40. One's a nice pleasant car to drive the other is a tractor 😉😆 It's not just about fuel consumption! I find the petrol quiet and refined, cannot hear motor running once warm, comfort and noise level inside is excellent. Personally I hate the sound of diesel engines rattling. But as fuel consumption appears to be the focus, for mine since new: 68k miles 9214 litres Average 33.96 mpg Best 41.8 mpg😴 Worst 26.18 mpg😈 I used to use tesco super unleaded when I first bought it and it was only 5p per litre difference and that reflected in improved MPG but since that fixed difference has been removed I have used only regular and found it all good. Great car for trips, keep filling it up and get more in, this includes trips to the tip. Great in snow, with winter tyres, skiing trips to the Alps, getting up this drive to a private parking slot, and do not see need for 4*4: Also the 4*4 was something like another 4k when I bought it so happy with that saving. What would I change, perhaps have bought Dragon Green but that was not available when I bought this, the only thing I wish I had specced was the heated steering wheel. So if you can put up with a diesel then everything else appears to be much of a muchness but I would strongly recommend you drive both engines before you decide.
  41. if your SOS module is crashing / going offline you will likely need to get the dealer to update the actual modules firmware which is seperate to the infotainment software update. If you are still under the original 3 year manufacturers warranty then there is a Škoda issued TPI - you should be able to get the dealer to update both the Infotainment software and the SOS module firmware at no charge (although the dealer will often claim they can’t update the infotainment software - don’t believe them, they can).
  42. @WaveyDavey What car /engine do you have with a DQ200 DSG? A DQ200 DSG has no Service Schedule, Guidelines, Recommendation or Spec for oil changes. Just saying so people do not get the wrong end of a long stick.

USB and clearing error as MIB3 yes
  44. Ross-Tech currently in negotiations with VW about adding SFD unlocking to VCDS.
  45. yeah thanks this is awesome, i was checking routing from my n75 valve and having a screen shot of the pic came in very useful
  46. The wheel bearing ring is not magnetic, it is castellated steel which interrupts the magnetic field produced from the magnet in the sensor, fracture of the magnet in the sensor is its usual failure mode and is invisible unless cut apart. You possible cause 4 would not create a fault code for the wheel sensor, possible cause 5 is meaningless. Possible cause 1 (the wiring) would create a different fault code, sensor wiring open circuit or shorted to ground.
