  1. better to just charge it given that you already have a charger , its only a few days so imo its not worth spending your hard earned £££
  2. On a side note. I have my own domain name and am able to use [email protected] so every where I go I use a different variation. eg Winston.Halfords@ or Winston.boots@ so if I start getting spam on them then a) I know where it’s originated from b) I can easily filter/block
  3. Just to clarify for your (and others') safety's sake, aquaplaning means your tyre/s have lost contact with the road surface and are skating on water. This means: 1) You have lost braking 2) You have lost steering 3) You have lost control of your 1 tonne plus armchair as it travels at whatever speed in only one direction, regardless of whatever the roadway or your desires wish for.
  4. Sadly that variable charging voltage is exactly what you should expect from the alternator in a VW group car with start/stop, so you probably just scrapped a working alternator. The voltage varies to try to match supply and demand on the system. When the new battery was fitted, was the car's battery monitor module re-coded to 'know' about the change?
  5. Just for the record, I telephoned the FCA this morning and spoke with a compliance officer for about 20 minutes regarding the garage saying they required my Date of Birth to process the order for the car I am attempting to buy from them. this is the response I gave to the Garage after speaking with FCA Directly. "With regard to me being required to give you my date of birth as part of compliance by the FCA, I contacted the FCA this morning with regard to this and they told me that there is no requirement for me to impart my date of birth to you and they advised that your company is not fully regulated but that you offer your finance products under the umbrella of ITC Compliance LTD, so you do not need my date of birth or personal details to record and pass on to ITC Compliance to process this sale as there is no finance or brokering taking place , its a simple cash transaction for a car without any other products being sought , rather I Just pay the difference and take the car (FCA ,s words not mine) " I know ITC take over the financial brokering compliance for many retailers in the motor trade, but FCA advise there is no requirement by me to give my details for you to pass on to a third party (ITC) as I am not buying any financial products from you or them, so This transaction does not come under the umbrella of FCA compliance . I am well aware this is common practise to sell peoples data onward and I have already been the victim of my details ending up in the hands of cold callers and spammers hence my reluctance to give personal details that are not required, but often sought to sell on by other parties. I am awaiting a reply which as of yet is not forthcoming. The FCA Officer was rather interested in the enquirey and he didnt seem happy that they wanted my Date of birth quoting "FCA Compliance" as he said it had nothing to do with my transaction.
  6. That voltage varition is 100% normal on an Octavia 3 - it's how the micro-regenerative braking system works. Nothing to worry about in any way.
  7. If you can remember aquaplaning slighly once i would get it changed sooner rather than later ,2nd time might be worse for you or someone else ,better safe than sorry 😁
  8. I think my head just exploded! 🤯
  9. Tweet I saw today by an 'Author, Blogger, Influencer, YouTuber, Engineer etc etc; 5 Star EuroNACP Valuation Requires Physical Buttons EuroNCAP announced that from 2026, real physical buttons and switches will be mandatory for certain functions in the car in order to receive the highest rating. The alliance of various European transport ministries, automobile clubs and insurance associations based in Brussels has rolled out its new agenda. "This decision marks a significant shift in the automotive industry and highlights the importance of traditional controls, which have been increasingly displaced by digital touchscreens and voice-activated systems in recent years." The safety specialists are targeting developments at Tesla and the VW Group. At least for the five most important functions, real switches, levers or buttons will be required from 2026 in order for cars to receive the five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. From 2026, suitable switches must therefore remain in the car for the turn signal, hazard warning lights, windscreen wipers, horn and SOS emergency call functions if the full 5-star result is to be achieved. Vehicle manufacturers will also be encouraged to use separate physical controls for other basic functions such as seat and mirror adjustment or ventilation. OMG to argue that physical buttons are safer than using a display or voice commands shows that its not about safety at all but that lobby groups have suceeded and thats sad. Its all about revenue, influence and profits but not about safety. Starting in 2026 we best ignore EuroNCAP if we talk vehicle safety and I hope Tesla won't change is strategy to build the safest vehicles in the world without physical buttons! The Bomer [sic] generation strikes back. https://twitter.com/alex_avoigt/status/1775875232932192269 Sorry but who wants to go through multile menus just to turn the heat up a little at 70mph?
  10. Updated yesterday (thank a lot @Giannis20 😊). Seems a bit more responsive (or maybe more than a bit? will need more testing), and there seem to be 2 new apps in the shop (Pay to Park and Pay to Fuel) - haven't installed those. No more difference that i could see so far.
  11. Let’s get some specs 3.6 v6 260ps elegance spec Self Parallel parking sensors front and rear Heated electric memory seats Cruise Full black leather Kessy Plans for the minute are a service as a little overdue. And that’s it haha nice to have a car that doesn’t really need anything straight away. Future plans are the get the bodywork mint, it’s been up and down the motorway pretty much it’s whole life so stone chipped all on front. Some pics
  12. The car I chose has 800V battery so can charge at 230kW+ on the right DC chargers. 5-80% is 18 minutes, which is 200-275 miles. In the diesel I didn’t fill up with fuel, but I would take a loo break/food break of 20 minutes. Hence much of a muchness. What I will say is that the NVH from an ICE car meant I would typically want to take a second quick stop to stretch out which meant the journey might be longer.
  13. Already converted the boot to manual from its powered struts as they weren’t working, kindly supplied the kit to do so from previous owner. Might try and get it working again in the future but I’ll see how much it bothers me powered strut Manual with wiring grommet blanks
  14. Sold and handed over today! Hope the new owner enjoys and gets as much out of her as I did 🙂
  15. Remembered to take a picture of the BH auto wheels in action
  16. Read this: Energy management.pdf
  17. if its only worn to the blocks on the outside(which is how it looks to me) you need to get the tracking checked. what you posted from Michelin doesnt really apply as you are at the blocks on part of the tyre. they are talking about changing tyres when they are only worn to like 4mm. i doubt you meant full "slight" aquaplaning, and more meant you have momentarily lost FULL traction? what are the other tyres looking like? is it only one corner?
  18. You're putting a demand on the battery and the alternator is just doing its job. With no demand the altenator is basically idle. That's my reasoning.
  19. Real world experience of public charging on the bank holiday: https://www.speakev.com/threads/bank-holiday-charging-chaos-not-really.184100/ In short, only Rugby service had a queue, but no queue nearby after a very simple quick look on the map. Zero queue just turn up and charge for everywhere else from Aberdeen to Hampshire and back. One can always find queues if one goes to busiest locations for "contents". Climate control isn't one of the required physical control......
  20. You haven't said what size (particularly width) it is, but I'd reckon aquaplaning to be a real possibility.
  21. Impression, he has the right YouTube name. Summary, thin oil, 0W8, car has free oil change and the dealer used the correct grade of genuine oil, nothing shocking, it was a Toyota dealer. I didn't mind the accent, it seemed genuine rather than affected.
  22. With those new found freedoms maybe the UK could, after consulting the results of the petition, demand that auto makers sell them only cars with UK specific type approved non glarey headlights. The downside is the added cost of making HMG compliant 'freedom headlights'™ 😉
  23. I think I will give the FCA a call tomorrow , as I understand about money laundering rules etc but money is coming from my bank via transfer so a legitimate source, I understand they have to offer me finance etc , but If I decline any products at all I cannot see a logical reason why I have to give my DOB to a car salesman , it stinks of Data harvesting to me.
  24. @Giannis20 thank you for sharing. For those who are having trouble with the maximum 5GB limit at Mega; you can get around it via a VPN. Get there desktop application, create a fake account using a spam email account (i have..) and register. Once registered, start the VPN, download the first 4.something GB and wait for the limit. Close the application, disconnect VPN, reconnect VPN, open the Mega desktop client and get the next 4.something GB. Do this once more to get the last few 100mb... IF you do not have a VPN, than you have to wait 2x 6 hours.. They say the limit is 5GB, but it caps out at 4.something GB.. and since the download is above 9GB, it will take 3 attempts.
  25. looking to buy another skoda I told them I dont want finance, I dont want any extra car Gap insurance, Diamond brite treatments , Just want the car and pay the difference in cash. Salesman said he needs my Date of birth to get the order form completed ?? Sounds well dodgy to me - more likely they are using a company called Automotive compliance who babysit the garages FCA compliance and I suspect will sell my data onwards. I had this once before where a garage sold my details on and I was hounded by unsolicited calls and emails. I have not agreed to give it to them as Im suspicious this is a data selling scam. Anyone else had this experience buying from a main agents??
  26. Likely because the SuperPro Lower arms are not correct length for the Superb. I believe the TRC1070 (used for the mk7 Golf) is too short for the Superb, i.e. 313mm. The Superb needs a length of 327mm. See L2 in the pics below.
  27. That particular one was I believe a Tesla, but VW group have the same version of their touchscreen in ICE and EV, so it’s not just an EV problem. It’s a bean counter problem.
  28. It always angers me to see the difference between a service and an extended scope service! For the nearly £100 price difference you get the following…. Wheels removed and brakes checked - I mean this is one of the first things that should be done on any vehicle a mechanic will be driving even if it’s not in for a service… it takes all of 2 minutes (without having to remove the wheels) Check/adjust drive belts - I’d love to find a Skoda tech and ask to see their drive belt tension checking tool - and adjustable tensioners haven’t been on vag cars for the last 25 years almost. Check/replenish manual gear oil - seen as most cars are dsg this is fairly moot and even then will very likely be a cursory glance at the gearbox for any leaks and a box tick. Seen as gearbox oil doesn’t just disappear either, offering to replenish it is all well and good when you’ve got a leak that needs fixing. check of final drive oil - will most likely be exactly the same as above and not include the haldex coupling which is arguably more prone to failure check suspension system - again, a glance at the underside which should be part of even the most basic service and if you’re lucky (and hopeful) a little pull, push and wobble to check for worn out suspension parts. check heating/air con - I very much doubt this is a full air con check involving pressure/weight testing or such (as they charge extra for this is a separate ‘aircon service’) and checking the operation of the heating again is a very basic check that should be part of every service lubricate door mechanisms - a lovely spray of white grease that within a few weeks will be blasted completely in dirt, but it is a visual to the customer that ‘we have done stuff to your car’ when in reality it doesn’t do much bar make a mess (except the bonnet latch which is fair to grease) that’s my rant over…. In a nutshell the ‘extended scope’ is the bare minimum that should be done on any service and charging £100 on top for it is an absolute con. in my opinion - a service should include all checks no matter what level and an oil and filter change. After this the additional service parts required either through time/mileage/request/dirty should be charged accordingly. That way you know a full check has been done and you know exactly what parts have been changed on your car.
  29. Interesting choices... Last two times with hiday cars I booked a Leon and a Panda and got a Leon and a Panda... So I guess we'll see...
  30. It's the 1.5 mean machine 😀
  31. I got some ramps and stands the orange ones from halfords with the pins
  32. One (or 2 since they're usually sold in pairs) axle stands would be better; this is a wheel(s) off job if you have to replace the sensor or its wire.
  33. It is the tab on the left.
  34. Might be the actual front left (nearside) sensor, or possibly a broken wire or corroded connection in the loom plug, Worth checking wiring near connector, and visual impression of connector contacts before spending on a replacement sensor, if poss. The ABS code I would be suspicious of relating to the blade fuse that the thinner red/green wire is going to (25Amp one?) or damage to that wire between there and ABS module. Unplugging connector from ABS module, and measuring voltage at the relevant connection would be ideal. Will give pin number later.
  35. I bought some from Ebay and they looked good but were ever so slightly too small. They initially fitted and looked good but one worked loose pretty quickly and disappeared when on a long drive on the motorway. I ended up buying a set of new OE which fitted perfectly and are still on the car.
  36. Ps. Just looked at Plug Share for Skegness and the pathetic Rapid chargers. Just as I would have if going to Skegness. Took 1 minute. But then not having the range or battery size of a Taycan I need less than an 2 hours on a 11kW AC charger. Unless on empty. Why I chose the vehicle that suits me. Less than an hour on a Rapid, and as we know with Max charging, it is the average charge speed that matters and pull in with the big battery car only half empty and you will not be getting the best speed possibly.
  37. Haha, have you got 2 pens in your top pocket, as he said EV evangelists do, or was that just Tesla owners 🤣? There were loads of good points raised in the video and, no, I'm not going to raise them and start off a mini WW3 about should have done better planning etc. Like most of his videos he does rather labour points too much and repeating himself, I do enjoy some his videos if I'm in the mood, they can be quite entertaining. One point he did make was that using the Zap map chargers in Skegness are very thin on the ground, if they have been keeping their information upto to date that is as this link does certainly prove. Electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Skegness - Zapmap (zap-map.com) Anyone calling him and other liars would do well to remember that when they are pointing fingers at anyone, they have 3 fingers point back at themselves, just saying . They really need to be there with them at the same time and armed with the same information as they have at the time to justify their claims.
  38. Thanks guys for your advice. Following Surry John's suggestion I checked the infotainment system and the car says that a service isn't due for another year or 13,000 miles. On that basis I think I'll just get the oil and filters changed at a good local garage and think about Skoda's two year service next year.
  39. @fjbgas66 he has been informed -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/522199-amundsen-mib2-map-updates-20242025/
  40. Thought I would tag onto this thread if @mac11irl doesn't mind... Got a Corsa booked in Lanzarote from Cabrera Medina from tomorrow... Any guesses
  41. Serious answer; I won't get the same sort of experience of sexism as you will.
  42. 3 different vehicles managed to get on the chargers in the time that he had a pee and got his Greggs quicker at the BP filling station. Why should the Tesla not charge where they are visiting & why does he not charge more often cheaply at Porsche Dealership charging or at the Ionity ones he often just does not bother going to? ' 'Got to bring my car closer.' Genius,. there are stoppers for the front or rear wheels for which ever way you drive your car into the Charging Bay towards the Charger.
  43. @Breezy_Pete My impression is the guy goes to lots of effort and into detail. Also that this is the future of ICE vehicles and for Euro 7 emissions would already of happened if the German Manufacturers had not managed to kick that into the long grass for a while. Thinner oil will be getting used before we get to 2035 in Europe i expect.
  44. My Mk 2 has a similar issue and that is what the fault code is saying on my VCDS - mechanical fault intermittent on the rear left. (probably caught it from teh new car lol) I took that to mean there is a fair chance it is getting an interrupted signal which may well be the magnetic strip on the back of the hub being partially perished. It came directly after a wheel change so perhaps that knocked a bit of the strip off. Anyways it is done now and hopefully tomorrow will be the last time that Superb is in the garage until teh next service. May do that myself though
  45. As per section 3.2 of VAT Notice 700/64, provided the dealership intends to sell the car within 12 months, they can recover the VAT charged. As VAT will have been recovered on the demonstrator car at purchase, the dealer will then be required to charge VAT on the full selling price
  46. 1 point
Makes accelerating away at junctions just that little bit quicker, more responsive
  47. ETA: Plantse posted whilst I was still typing my post, I've not altered my post (other than typo editing) I fitted Pagid to front and rear of my wife's 2015 MK3 SE 1.2 TSI 90 and they were and are fine - but take little notice of of past reputations that may or may not still be deserved, like German engineering being necessarily high quality, that was last century. Brembo were of internment quality a few years back. Pagid are one of TMD Friction's brands along with Textar, Mintex, Don, Cobreq and Bendix. Then there's our local family brake business, now a bit bigger, EBC favoured by many. Despite being local I've never used their products but I did used to know someone that used to work for Pagid Performance Braking a couple of decades. I think it's Carlston and others that like ATE, again I've never used them. Anyone my age would probably have used Mintex over the decades. Do bear in mind the tyres are also important to the braking system (and steering and suspension) they need to be in good condition regardless of tread depth left on them or age. Clean and lubricate the other brake parts as required when changing and us new fittings where required (Pagid rear pads included screws). Changing the pads and discs on my wife's 2015 MK3 SE 1.2 TSI 90 were the easiest brake changes I've done in my limited experience of doing such, so I done posts with notes for those that are interested. 'front brake pads and discs fitting tips' - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/499752-front-brake-pads-and-discs-fitting-tips 'Changing rear brake discs and pads, notes and tips' - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/517740-changing-rear-brake-discs-and-pads-notes-and-tips HTH.
  48. 14 years of a Conservative and Unionist Government that just agreed with the EU up to Brexit and since. Type approval of vehicles and legislation. Cornering Foglights, brake lights on with Autohold, brake lights the full length of the rear of cars. They let the Manufacturers off with defeat devices. They knew of them pre breaking news late 2015. So now they are against the war on motorists seemingly. Now they think that older drivers annoyed by headlights might give their vote to the Tories at the next GE. Simply clever. Maybe mandate that car headlights require checking at a PDI and at each pre delivery check and not first after 3 years on the road.
  49. I would estimate that a significant part of the problem is people who fit LEDs into headlight units that were not designed for this type of light source - which is illegal in the UK anyway.
