  1. One big problem I have with this way of thinking... They want to impose restrictions on the first six months of a new driver's life, but those six months or so are precisely when they're just getting their confidence up. It seems to me that it's the period afterward, ie 17-24, in which their overconfidence and kittensery come into play and make them do the stupid things. But more than that, looking around at my most recent experiences, this one fifth of KSIs only "involved "but was not necessarily the fault of, the younger driver. Lately I've seen white vans racing each other, Tesla drivers being complete nobs because they think power is superior to skill, and large exec/saloon cars being whanged about because they think watching Top Gear makes them skilled. Mostly male drivers and not one looked below 35.

Averaged 45 miles every single of those 365 days 11 years. Although "EXHAUST AND MECHANICS ALL IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. No Funny Noises. Smooth Gear Change." not sure the seller has tailored their sales patter for the EV market. It will still work well for many people, my family included, as second car local runabouts. Oh yes, that's why we got one 😁
  3. Another glorious evening 😎
  4. Trip to Beamish. Took the R3 and a 24-105 lens. A bit overkill for sightseeing tbh. Went a bit mad with the processing.
  5. @Prezafab there are no guarantees anything will sell just because it's listed here. Just as it might not on ebay. The freedom 'paywall; if you like is more a donation, however in this situation, I do appreciate how it can feel like a barrier. Why when you're leaving skoda etc... I do get it and wrestle with it frequently. The way we have it, it is reasonably protected from scammers. At least to advertise, we have a very low incidence rate, plus you keep all your sale money. IDK know what ebay charge now. The choice is entirely yours. IF you felt you got value from the community, it's a pint of beer, maybe a fancy coffee, down south prices at least Hope this helps.

I tried to buy one, but all smoke and mirrors apparently ☹️

Where possible avoid the ‘one click’ options as they aren’t always compatible and people have messed up their modules before from it. they also don’t tell you what was exactly touched so reverting it isn’t always easy.
  8. More like a sharp intake of breath from mechanics hoping for a payday. The AA man to his credit was not one of them but he started the ball rolling, he had no reason nor need to remove a dipstick and oil cap while the engine was running when called out to a discharged battery.
  9. 1.4 TSI was pretty quick engine and absolutely more than enough in normal usage when traveling in 2 people, 2.0TSI 280 is a monster and iam kinda worried iam gonna lose driving license soon
  10. It is a small amount you have to pay to advertise on BRISKODA. As it is if you paid for membership that is more, but supports the forum.
  11. Replacement level fertility is the level of fertility at which a population exactly replaces itself from one generation to the next. As I said somewhat graphically to get over the point, that would only be true if mothers were euthanised after giving birth or before their offspring were allowed to procreate. There is something going on with all governments that peddle misinformation statistics like this and also the life expectancy statistics leading people to believe that the population wont increase if they have 2 children or that people are living longer than their parents generation, I believe its because Economic Growth relies on consumerism and increasing population regardless of the consequences.
  12. Tesla well know for quality issues. they're a drivetrain manufacturer learning how to put together a car. Most car manufacturers have been building cars for 100yr+ in one form or another. They might choose not to use every lesson learned but they do have a lot of experience in all the tricky little areas that are needed to make a car. I think Tesla still has the air of fasion and rebellion about it for now but this will fade and if they can't up the quality they'll start to look like a French manufacturer. Pretty cars that fall apart.
  13. Switched from 2016 Superb 1.4 TSI 150 to 2023 Superb 2.0 TSI 280 Including photos of my previous Skoda cars
  14. I dont think the last suggestion is very sensible, no way could you reach it while belted, even if you dont have a beer belly the steering wheel would prevent you from bending down to reach it, if you were in your canal or river scenario it would be underwater, OK you could probably feel it but it would likely interfere with the controls, in a roll over its likely to brain you! The latter I inflicted on a female passenger in a Suzuki SJ410 with a Mini flywheel puller set Worse still it was her vehicle
  15. I'll take the plain jane wolf in sheep clothing. Went to look at the byd seal. Very nice. But why they made it a saloon we'll never know. Totally impractical for almost anyone, including golf playing execs. Nice brakes on the 3.6 version though. Suspect one of these would be a lot of fun in rural Wales on a quiet night.
  16. If it helps I know people who have fitted B4’s to Fiat 500’s as will I be soon. They say it’s a slightly firmer ride which is a good thing. One of my friends has Koni actives on his beemer and loves them, he does a lot of miles a year and been on there the last 5 or so years
  17. I doubt you'd devalued a your car at all considering it's age & mileage. I'm only having my car serviced at Skoda due to it's extended warranty with them, otherwise I wouldn't let them touch it. I don't use a main dealer for better service, infract I've known them cut corners on many occasions, not just with Skoda, either. I also replace my own brakes, as they're not covered under warranty, plus I'll save a lot of cash within the process of doing so. So if you have the ability to service it yourself, why not, something rather rewarding with maintaining your own car to a decent level, do it's yourself then you know it's done right & you've saved yourself cash.
  18. Now officially available to order https://www.skoda.co.uk/news/details/order-books-open-for-fully-updated-skoda-octavia
  19. You are the man! 😀 The unsettling body movement given by the original suspension setting on uneven roads is a real disappointment on the handling. Thanks for making the effort (physical and economical!) to achieve better solutions!
  20. Hello Bud, Ill explain the whole process in one go. Step 1:First thing I did was look for a replacement module. The module which you want is your convinence control module the one you have currently with central locking (not remote) should be 5J0 959 433. The module you need is 5J0 959 433 A. Check eBay I picked one up second hand for about £30. Once you’ve got the new module Step 2: Locate the old module Yours will be in the same place as mine as I’m in uk too. Assuming you have a RHD its above the clutch pedal. Step 3: Remove the old module You need to remove some lower dash and I found that pushing the fuse box out next to the OBD Port gave me much better access. It’s an absolute pain to get to and get out. Unless you’re small with small hands. I pried mine out of the housing it’s sat in then you need to unclip it from the connection. Has two clips. Step 4: Plug New Module in I thought it would require coding via VCDS but it’s plug and play. Your car will recognise it immediately. I recommend you get the VCDS software as well as the Hex cable as you will need it to program your remote key. Step 5: Pair new remote key The Fob you need is part number 1J0959753DA. I got mine off Amazon for £14. Make sure it’s the right fob or you won’t be able to pair it to the car. To pair the key to the car I found the tutorials for vag remote keys did not work I.e placing in door and turning etc. I used the VCDS software. You need to go to the Central conv module. Go to adaptions and remote key adaption. The default value will be 1 change it to 2 and press save. Click the unlock button on the fob for about a second straight after and you should hear a slight click. That’s how you know it’s worked. For the middle boot button programming if it’s not done by default which was the case for me I had to go to central electrics module on VCDS and go to the remote key boot option and enter the value and save. I just did 3. So I hold the button for 3 secs and it opens. That’s it. You have remote central locking.
  21. He was asking about the sunroof. To which can be removed after the head liner is removed.
  22. Are we talking genuine camera or an aftermarket? If genuine, it will need coding and calibrating to the vehicle If you supply the vin I can source you a camera or supply the part numbers
  23. Yeah the issue with the leather seats is there is no holes whereas the ventilated leather is full of holes. In your case you might be better off finding some pre ventilated seats as I don’t know about you but a single hole out of place on the perforations would drive me crazy
  24. id assume it’s the same DSG gearbox in the superb so same micro switch fix - it’s a common issue across the vag platform. I managed to fix it on the Octavia just by removing the bit panel around the lever - didn’t have to dismantle the whole centre console. There was one screw I needed to undo from the side so I drilled a small hole in the plastic panel on the side- it’s barely visible. Got micro switch from Horton Skoda part no. 5Q0713128A but take care as there’s two types of DSG and thus two different fix microswitches . First pic before pic - red arrow for the screw I had to undo from the side. Second pic shows new switch piggy backed onto gearbox. You can see the white switch. No more irritating beeps and error messages!
  25. Not advising anything, but following other groups with PHEV owners, that seems to be the solution to the problem. Perhaps in the workshop they just do the same as a first thing to try.
  26. Not that I'm any kind of expert, but what exactly is the problem you have that you are trying to solve? So far your problem seems to be "Oo-er! I don't like the look of that!". Am I correct is summarising that as the issue that you are looking to "solve"?
  27. They told me the car would be checked out to make sure everything was okay before doing the tune. When I asked for the car to be taken back to stock I asked what map they would use and they said it was supplied by APR. I asked why that wouldn't be inccompatible if APR thought I had a different engine and got into a argument along the lines of "If the ECU accepts it then it must be right". But the branch of the company I got to restore a "stock" tune wasn't the one where they did the tune in the first place -- that one didn't have a dyno. Will contact the original branch tomorrow to check if they'd backed up and kept the stock file. Not sure why I hadn't thought of that earlier.
  28. Source of the 2.1 per woman https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7834459/ Source of The prospect of UK population declining without immigration https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/the-impact-of-migration-on-uk-population-growth/ My full post was in response to a discussion that Global population will start to fall. The consensus is that it will as other Countries develop and more Women globally see less need for having many Children. I get your point about multiple generations existing at the same time but as each generation has less children the numbers of Grandparents with many Grandchildren will reduce.
  29. I think it is highly likely that the list of features etc is made up from other peoples lists for all kinds of cars and the seller has copied and pasted various bits into their own, hence many parts, including the section you highlighted, is in caps where most of the rest is in lowercase.
  30. Yes it will smell of hydrocarbons, there will be combustion gases and oil fumes. White smoke and the other responses are very very very good news. Don't let any garage on the make frighten you into unnecessary work, if there continues to be no oil consumption you have nothing to worry about.
  31. Skoda have been building cars for 125 years. I know they are owned by VW who was only founded in 1937. By now Skoda should be able to keep H2o out of vehicle cabins considering they do not build convertibles. They should be able to tell the VW Senior Management / Board that they can not longer accept crap parts and then sell cars with them. Vorsprung Durch Technik. Learn by mistakes, and then sort out your sh-1t.

Yes, the oil pump is driven by a toothed belt . There have been a few cases of failed belts ( missing teeth or ruptured completely ) which led to low/no oil pressure ( that's very bad ), but only after 180-200k km. It is advised to change the oil pump belt along with the camshaft cover and bearing when changing the timing kit ( as you need to remove the timing kit to access the camshaft cover and oil pump belt ).
  33. Not sure the author of that article is any less biased than the Mail Online, but just waaaaay over on a different side of the argument. https://www.lse.ac.uk/granthaminstitute/profile/pallavi-sethi/
  34. @RoddersUK looks like this system is independent of traction control. It does what is should, takes care to prevent any speed difference between front wheels. There is no scenario when one wheel spinning and other is stopped is useful. With TC off, you get both wheels spinning but only one should not occur ever.
  35. There is no need to disconnect battery I didn't just unplugged the loom fitted old loom to new loom then onto box. Reassemble and away you go. Just make sure you do not switch on until all is connected and back together After removing the screen you will find a black box the size of cd player It is this you have to slide out after removing the screws on each side. Then you can pull the unit out, the loom is fitted to the back of this unit
  36. She's Taxed. And almost ready to get out.. I reckon I'll have some cleaning to do before Skodafest.
  37. curious. It has RFID which is shortrange so must have had a fob or a phone app ah here we go https://www.transportengineer.org.uk/transport-engineer-news/masternaut-releases-telematics-hub-for-improved-connectivity/62552 Its a GPS tracker Edit , that looks to be just one part of it, you may have some other bits hidden away https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266376374775

  41. I agree it would be very person specific in a future sale. Personally, if I was looking at a car that had a load of receipts for stuff done by the owner then it would lead me to think it had been better looked after than one with dealer history. My car had dealer history when I bought it and the pollen filter had never been changed and was an absolute disgrace. My maintenance for all my recent cars has been done by a friend who is a VW tech. He does a great job and charged me very fairly. Going forward, I have learned that things like basic servicing is just easy so I’ll be doing it myself on both of our cars as we intend on keeping them both for a while anyway. Anything more difficult that I don’t feel confident doing or don’t have the tools for will go to my mate or to one of a couple of local very good VAG specialists.
  42. It's all personal choice in my opinion. Some people won't touch it with a bargepole, others will prefer a diy serviced car. I've recently completed my first diy service on my 2017 245, which I plan on running it until it dies. I know everything has been done, I have receipts to prove everything that has been changed. If it was a new car that I was going to trade in after a few years then I'd stick with a garage service history personally, but if its a car you love and plan on keeping then diy it.

So the thieves drove the vehicle away using the key that you had left in the vehicle then. You were very lucky that the insurers paid out, did they know about the key being left in the vehicle? If not they may well do when the court case is heard.
  44. Hello everyone, let me introduce James The Superb, our Superb Estate L&K 206/280, colour Raspberry Red. Ordered 08/2023 and delivered 12/2023. Immediately after the delivery I got it wrapped in Xpel PPF to protect the paint as well as underbody rust protected with Dinitrol. It also has a clear protective film applied on the windshield. I'd like to keep it long term so I decided to spend this additional money for the protection (already got a few nasty rocks hit the windshield on the motorway and so far it's holding). After the warranty expires I am looking into a few upgrades like ECU & TCU tune and Bilstein shocks.

The warranty in Aus starts from date of first registration.
  49. Hi on my 2021 Superb you can only set this using the configuration Wizard. Under the menu button , select settings , this will open the system settings. Starting the configuration Wizard is the bottom of this list. Once the Wizard is open just select the time date option icon (on the left) and you can choose 24 hour clock here. - what a faff
