  1. From the new owner. Amazing what a difference a wash and some new plates can make.
  2. S'pose I should update this... Wee bit has happened since my last post here. I've been to Skodafest, where I got my annual catch up with @gav_is_con and got to finally meet @Lofty and see his gorgeous Fabia vRS in the flesh for the first time. Matt's car undoubtedly (and deservedly) being the star of the show here, an absolute power of work has been done on this one. Moving back to the point of this whole project thread is my 1.2. Finally got the wee thing over 100,000 miles, in fact it's closer to 101,000 now. A good day was had, and the drive was actually quite enjoyable. It has reminded me however that I really need to soundproof that car, as the sound of the engine roaring at 3500rpm along a motorway really gets to me after a while! Thankfully, to combat this, I was reminded today that I'd ordered some of the under-bonnet sound deadening, with a part number kindly supplied by @Breezy_Pete. Much to my surprise, the parts for this were readily available and not overly expensive all things considered. I shall be fitting this tomorrow. Besides this, next jobs will be tying up all the loose ends on this car as a project, all the half-started stuff. Two years on I still haven't finished the rear electric windows retrofit, that's priority, before I unveil to you all the other things I've hoarded to fit to this wee thing.
  3. We found a friendly Duck this evening 🦆
  4. Welded up the drilled out spots on the back side drilled out for plug welds First tacks Fire dept violence and alignment grumbly tin Making sure we didn't get it too wrong All other crimes will be dealt with by seam sealer in great big globs The error lol Then a migraine hit and I crawled to bed for a couple of hours sleep, lol. I had intended to go get another bottle of gas for 'whatever needs glued together next' but couldn't. I checked the wiper motor assy still went in and it does, perfectly. This feels like a bit of a milestone. We also test sprayed some of the colour from the can onto an old wing and it looks lush, but you don't get to see.
  5. Yes. I got a few calls after putting an add in Autotrader. A guy called me yesterday afternoon and said he'd come down from Leeds to pick it up that evening. So he got a coach down to Leicester, bought the car for £350 and then drove back to Leeds. Messaged me back to say he got back fine and the car drives like a dream!
  6. Resolved! No one ever seems to post when they have fixed a problem! So, wire from fuse 12 to pin 1 of gateway, which should be battery live, was broken in the loom. Patched in new wire and all fixed. Can’t imagine anyone will ever the same problem but you never know….
  7. A few from this evening............
  8. Tonight's sunset...........
  9. I have a VW that I bought new in Oct 23. VW recommend a C5 0W-20 oil is fitted. You can also use a C3 5W-30 oil. At the first service in Oct 24 the VW dealer fitted the C3 oil for me. I keep my cars for a long time so the oil I chose is important to me. Details I found were:- VW 504 is a FS LL 5W 30 C3 oil and is better at reducing engine wear with a HT/HS viscosity of 3.5 cP than a C5 oil. VW 508, VW 509 is a FS LL 0W 20 C5 oil has a HT/HS viscosity of 2.6- 2.9 cP. They can improve fuel economy by 1%. Engines using this oil will suffer more engine wear than one using a C3 oil. 5W oil is still a flowing liquid at -30°C. 0W oil is still a flowing liquid at -35°C. Thanks. AG Falco
  10. The VG Group uses the ABAX system for driver monitoring. It is an integral part of the electronic system. According to the ABAX site, "The ABAX unit in each vehicle uses extensively tested algorithms and robust set of parameters to detect driving behaviour events for each of the 5 key driving behaviour factors. Rapid acceleration, harsh braking and sharp cornering are measured using an accelerometer inside the unit that measures g-force. Idling is measured using a combination of a motion-sensor and GPS." What is done with the data in private cars is not at all clear. With fleet monitoring, things are clearer: "Each factor score can be viewed at the individual driver level or as a summary of your entire fleet. You can also compare driving trends over time internally or against the national average. Driving scores will affect vehicle-related costs, your environmental impact, safety, your company image, the likelihood of an incident and insurance premiums – so work to keep them as high as possible! An admin can monitor driving behaviour from the Driving behaviour menu, Reports, or directly in the Map." So it IS clearly a tool for monitoring individual drivers. Its use in Skoda cars is probably meant to be benign, but it is an always-on "spy in the cab" as much as an HGV's tachometer. I think that its use is a perversion of GDPR rights and that the data the VW/Skoda group hold on drivers' behavoiur is almost cvertainly grossly excessive and disproportionate.
  11. Apologies, I have checked my engine code and it's actually the CUPA engine. Emission standard is Euro 5. Following further research it seems the CUPA engines don't have the pressure sensor glow plug whereas the CUNA engines do. Case closed! Thanks everyone for your help.
  12. Had an email response from Škoda Support - I had queried how to opt out. The original FAQs said through the App... I couldn't find anywhere in the App to do so. Today's email told me it was in the car Infotainment System 🤷‍♂️. And guess what, the FAQ has in 36 hours been updated to this... What it doesn't say is what else is lost by activating Private Mode 🙄. That's the topic of my reply.
  13. Bro's can look at HTHS values for ACEA C5 (0W20 508.00/509.00) and ACEA C3 (0...5W30 504.00/507.00) oils. This will drop idea what (could) be better for engine protection and what- for fuel economy.
  14. If you consider that the hood will spend practically its whole life in the closed position - with the strut horizontal - the ram will be well lubricated.
  15. When mounting a clock spring, it is extremely important to have to steering wheel position match the orientation of the clock spring. The clock spring can only handle the ~3 rotations of the steering wheel. If the clock spring was mounted one complete rotation offset from the position of the steering wheel, it will break very quickly.

  17. Got a pair of gas struts for the bonnet £26 including all required fittings. Took all of 5 minutes to do. No more lifting the bonnet.
  18. Looking really good Cat! Hope you're feeling better soon to go again.
  19. Well, give them some time, I think that it can take up to a month. If there is silence after that, file a complaint with your countries ombudsman: https://www.edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/about-edpb/members_en If you believe that they have violated the GDPR, you can lodge the complaint with your countries agency anyway. The fines for these violations can be very significant.
  20. Hi Apologies if this is the wrong page. I need some help please. I require a Drivers door wiring loom, Drivers door module with integrated motor for my Skoda Octavia MK1 VRS. Please could anybody offer me any advice on where to locate one. Thanks in advance.
  21. It certainly does seem to be the best of both worlds - which makes me wonder why they don't retrospectively reccommend it (but do in the EA888.4). The car is going in on Monday for the DSG/VAQ service, plus the annual and some other bits, so I'll have a good chat with the guy then. An oil change is hardly an expensive job and is one that I can do myself in a few months once I've thought about it proplerly. I plan to get the car retuned towards the end of the year, so will likely change the oil then. I read somewhere (I think it was GTI) that the dealers were told to use either 0W-20 or 5W-30, depending on what they felt like.
  22. What there is is lots of mess beside the clutches. As to oil colour there are various posts on here showing the colour changes. The 'Famous DQ200 Clutch Slip thread' in the Fabia mk3 section is good. That issue came in from 2015 once the DQ200,s were being turned out in big numbers by the Skoda Factory. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/470446-precautionary-dq200-oil-change
  23. 0w 30 FS III is simply clever for good engine protection & longevity in a UK vehicle. (TSI) When VW Group went VW508 00 / 509 00 that was not with all engines, there were TDI,s that stayed VW504 / 507. & Dealers used 0w 30 FS III. Actually back in 2018 / 2019 there were Main Dealers still using that in cars at first services and 2nd, and parts department selling that to people with the cars delivered after the WLTP was introduced.
  24. @Ootohere Honestly, I think so. 5W-30 is out as I'm not keen on the startups in winter. 0W-30 is a consideration, but I think I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. There's too many opinions, so for now I will just take VW on their word and keep it simple. At least until I've looked properly into the mechanical differences between the PFL EA888.3 and FL/GPF (beyond the oil pump). It's done the last 40k miles on 0W-20 (I presume) so I only need it to do another 40-50k and that'll be that. I highly doubt using xW-20 over xW-30 will grenade the engine in the meantime and despite what I was orignially told, I've seen no real evidence otherwise. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... at least for now.
  25. A backbox delete would more sound horrendous than antisocial. I would assume too that most people, seeing a Skoda Superb making a noise like that, would just assume it was broken!
  26. @OccyVRS I have other cars than a MINI Electric and plenty over the years that sound good and not antisocial.
  27. @Aldfort It's not an odd question. He was asking as for the DQ200 gearbox, there is no specified interval - it is a 'sealed for life' box, so having a service plan is largely irrelevant as Skoda won't touch it. You can change the gearbox oil and the MCU (mechatronics) oil, so technically it's not sealed for life. Realistically, if your're bothering to shift into neutral to prolong the life, logical says you would also bother to service it. Skoda say my gearbox should be serviced at 80k, but I don't know anyone that leaves it that long. This is the same company that tells us a certain DSG filter will last 160,000 miles, so sometimes you have to take the reccommended intervals with a pinch of salt.
  28. In response to what I think you're saying in the first part, I would assume they use 0W-20. To the second bit, yes, I would think it would invalidate the warranty (probably hence the green colour as an identifier), as it isn't what they reccommend. So basically, the entire premise of this forum (and most of what you or I have said in it) is therefore irrelevant, if the knowledge and opinions of those on here are invalid as you don't care or don't know? You couldn't care less what others think, especially when they don't know you, but yet you give advice? You aren't making sense! Which is/was the entire premise of me asking the previous posters in this thread...
  29. It's more the weird braking feel I'll no doubt adapt to, than the resistance of the transmission/hybrid system when you take your foot off the accelerator to slow down wothout braking that bothers me a little lol. The brake pedal starts off firm, then a kind of a light spot, then firms up again. Usually when braking under 30mph to zero, but not everytime. The brakes seem in excellent generally condition. No doubt a characteristic of the car I'll eventually adapt to, coming from a straight petrol engine 1.5tsi. Thanks for your input
  30. Yes, somewhere in there I think; probably the Individual Mode settings.
  31. And I did just that! It's not a massive difference all things considered, but it's a step in the right direction nevertheless. I've once again been conversing with Pete about soundproofing and we discussed the idea of fitting a diesel undertray which is larger, and comes with a spongy type of soundproofing. The replacement ones online do not, so I'm going to do some research and development (read as trial and error) to see which fabrics would suit it best. That's a post-payday job as I've already ordered enough for this car off this month's payslip!
  32. Should be, Rheinmetall make tanks as well as other defence equipment 😉
  33. Yea, got something similar. It basically disables everything. Anyhow, there is no way I am ok with them processing my private data this way, so I will be looking for a better way to disable this, even if it means saying goodbye to the Skoda application. There are some other concerns, but for that will need to find some free time to write directly to the DPO and our countries GDPR watchdog.
  34. Yes, the slightly odd feeling under braking is a ‘feature’ of the mild hybrid technology; the regenerative braking. It’s a while since I drove an e-Tec model but IIRC there are some configuration settings to tweak the regen behaviours. Sounds like you have a nice spec car - enjoy!
  35. Glad we sorted it. That's why Pos.5 ('simple' glow plugs) in catalogue doesn't indicate quantity. Because "X" can be "3" or "4" (all similar, 'simple' plugs).
  36. I hope it's strong enough to withstand being run over by lorries such as bin lorries?
  37. Apologies Skoda superb 2.0L tdi DSG 180,000miles No fault codes Dpf regen Found a coolant leak Injectors checked Water pump changed Air intake all checked
  38. My money is on broken wiring harness at the hinge point.
  39. I think that is just showing that the break pedal is being pressed. If I remember correctly, it also shows the indicators flashing when on that screen - possibly other things too. I guess that screen is a "live view" of the car.
  40. I don't think it is an official Škoda diagram. Someone has done it because there wasn't one.
  41. I have just noticed the two blue icons, bottom right hand corner. They couldn't even get the right description to go with each. Geoff
  42. Hi, Battery reloaded over night. It's now 12.59V. No more error message upon cold start this morning. Great! Thank you guys. Delivery to new owner is planned for tomorrow morning. All good! 🙂
  43. The only obvious mod is the exhaust, I'm guessing at the very least, it's been mapped though
  44. Just comes up as a Scout TDI 140 on my check, so I'd assume it's just been modified.
  45. 1 point
You need new pressure sensor, change both for mind peace.
  46. No thats it, as long as you connect the +ve to the +ve on the battery, you’re good to go.
  47. Yes because skoda uk order their cars with just one it's the minimum legal requirement and saves them a little money !
  48. 1 point
There HAVE been internal changes. From VAG Self Study Programme 645.
  49. Car had exact same issue about 3 months ago. Was recovered in as non starter and with no comms. But following morning “it had fixed itself!” Was absolutely fine for the past three months and then one morning wouldn’t start again and here we are…….i had hoped someone on here had come across a similar issue. Leaning towards it being a wiring issue with the can bus circuit
  50. @Ootohere it just enoyed me that it sounded really bottled up. I knew it would not have a nice sporty sound. This video is what made me do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg4_lb5S0JI
