  1. Crepuscular Rays on the way home this evening (phone photo as had forgotten the camera) 😬
  2. HI All, I haven't posted on Briskoda for a while, have a Superb MK 3 280 484 L&K which has been an amazing car, we used to have a Kodiaq but sold that a few years back to get a Tesla Model Y AWD LR. We had an Enyaq on order but Skoda couldn't supply during Covid so ended up going to Tesla. After having had enough of the bad build quality and other bits I decided to look at the Elroq to replace, we've just ordered an Elroq VRS with all the options ticked (probably a waste of money) . First got the itch to get rid of the Model Y a couple of months back when we moved and I realised A) How wide it is and we don't need a car as big given we also own the Superb B) how bad the turning circle was (It's really a thing with a model Y), also general ride quality and then you have the brand challenges. Anyway, test drove an Elroq 60 Edition last weekend and really liked it and then saw the 0% on the Elroq combined, my wife test drove yesterday and then we went and ordered. Very impressed with the build quality and ride, I went with the Elroq vRS as I wanted some of the gadgets but wanted DCC and then the similar performance to my Model Y. The 85 Sportline was close but by the time I had specced it up there wasn't much difference between that and the vRS price wise Spec wise it's a monster, I know it will depreciate (hopefully not as bad as the Model Y) but if all goes well we may end up keeping Elroq vRS Hyper Green (Time will tell but from all the Youtube videos released this week it certainly won't get lost) Maxx Pack 21" Wheels Winter Pack Heatpump (Why this isn;'t standard amazes me) Really good spec to anything else out there , looked at the New Model Y but put off from the new updates and Tesla as a brand now, Renault 5 was too small, Alpine was the same but overpriced (I used to own an a110), looked at Megane / Scenic but didn't tick the boxes. Polestar too expensive for what I wanted. The Elroq ticks all the boxes including being a great size Delivery is estimated at 12 weeks

Thanks @Lee01 , I'm hooked on Pete's Rescue Roomster already, that turned into a big project! I might start a Project thread too just to document progress. I'm also a Pete btw. You have two Pete's with Rescued Roomsters now 🙂🚗 🙂🚗
  4. Injector and HPFP replacement appears to have made no obvious difference to anything, disappointingly. But having refreshed bits in those places can only be good in the long-term. Had a bit of a breakthrough an hour or so ago though, whilst cleaning up and studying an inlet manifold with intercooler that I'd acquired very cheaply from a much lower mileage car. The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system relies on a subtle feature of this manifold, which appears to be a bit of design frailty, at least for pressure reduction at low throttle openings. When I first looked at the relevant "fifth port" on the spare manifold, it was very easy to conclude that it had a plastic blanking plug in it. Perhaps because the design had ben changed to apply a bit of vacuum to the crankcase in some other way. Didn't photograph it before my breakthrough, sadly, but after leaving it for a few hours and going back to it and having more of a (literal) poke around, I found a teeny-tiny hole that is fundamental to the design. The tiny hole you can see in the first pic, especially after seeing it in the closer shot, was utterly occluded and invisible at first.

Welcome to Briskoda, @kaibosher If you take a gander in the Roomster section, you might find @Breezy_Pete is also working on a Roomster.

Hello everyone, I hope to expand your knowledge about the great cars we have with you.
  7. Im really not understanding why its a problem for a driving test? an analogue needle speedo as is present is all thats needed to track your speed. a digital option is.. nice? but isnt necessary. the test cant deem it a requirement for a digital display given the number of older cars that people srill drive with NO digital anything, even a mechanical odometer.
  8. Rear ABS ring, probably offside?
  9. Hi all Just a quick hello as I picked up my new Octavia VRS estate yesterday 😃
  10. Bottom line is that as long as the chosen wheel and tyre combo is type approved by Skoda, OP is fine.
  11. Never had AA or RAC. OTOH Britannia Rescue have been pretty good. One recovery I'd have liked to be quicker, and one where they achieved a turnout time of "I was still on the phone to the call centre and passed it to the recovery operator". 5 minutes later I was on the way down the road.
  12. My wife's 2015 Fabia has "Version 1" of the instrument cluster so I don't know much about the "Version 2" in your car. I doubt it but wonder If a previous owner has been messing with things in the computer programs or swapped steering wheel or column switch. Sorry but I'm not sure what I'm missing with the need for digital display of car road speed ("current speed"), if your daughter is taking her driving test then she should be able to use the big analogue dial with needle (like we all used to for our driving tests), have they changed this now). Looks like buttons on wiper stalk set the display according to the Owner's Manual but it's not as clear as it could be for the two versions. Hope you get sorted, your daughter may have well passed her test before you can get the car into a Dealership but hopefully someone there might just be able to help you without the need of seeing the car. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
  13. I had 94972 Km and i had 67,2 litres then 94976 Km and i had 67,6 litres (that's only 4 km distance so i don't count this), refuel to the top and zeroing the TC-6 because the trip begins. 2 adults, gas tank full and some luggages in the trunk, Highway (100-110 km speed) and Mountain Roads. 95050 Km and i had 4,5 litres (Total fuel consumption) which means 75 km distance so fuel consumption % was 6,08 ltr/km or 46.46 British MPG (excellent). Few luggages added and some light traffic, Highway (110-120 km speed) and Mountain Roads, 95133 Km and i had 9,8 litres (Total fuel consumption) which means 83 km distance so fuel consumption % was 6,38 or 44.28 British MPG (very good). The results from the end of the trip in the next post, the new radiator and the new coolant helped a lot in Fuel Consumption sector.
  14. Hi Pete, Best of luck with project. That motor is very fortunate to have ended up with you. I have just done a cv boot on mine... wish I had seen your CV boot shaft removal tool trick before hand!

No I have not, there is one near me, might go for a test drive this week.
  16. Hi all, Been using this forum for a few weeks... gathering some tips on how to fix up a few things on my new old Roomster (my first non-Jap car!) Seems to be a really good community. Looking forward to getting some opinions and helping out if I can.
  17. Excellent and welcome again, Pete. What's your favourite feature of the Roomster? Apart from the versatility, for me it's the telephone handsets 😉🤣

First reg is a DQ200, gearbox code WGS. Second is a DQ381, code WFQ. Lee wins the gold star for today. The ever-present child in me wants to know if there's a WTF code anything...😁

First one is a 1.5TSi etech so will be a DQ200 Second one is a 2.0TDi so will be DQ381. For the Mk4 Superb. 1.5 = DQ200 7 speed dry clutch 2.0 = DQ381 7 speed wet clutch PHEV = DQ400E 6 speed wet clutch and electric motor.

Yeah the damptronic are the equivalent and I think are a drop in solution. The reason I suggested the B4 over B6 is the standard B6 are mono tube shocks which offer a good performance advantage in use and life expectancy. The damptronic versions are twin tube like most car shocks and are built in the same way as the B4. The might have different seals but the construction is the same so it may not be worth the added cost for a slightly stiffer damping profile.
  21. Hi, I just dissembled a lot of my Roomster interior... The tweeter has an electrolytic capacitor attached on rear. That's the only crossover as far as I can see. The speaker cable from radio goes into door to the 'woofer', the tweet cable is run in parallel from the door to the pillar. So I guess using the existing tweet cable for pods is the easiest course of action.
  22. I have the RAC "arrival" specialist caravan cover Which is around £200 a year. I imagine it may be different than cover for free given with other products. I haven't had to use it (touches wood) since 2020. When we broke down about to leave a site in South Wales. We were also slap bang in the middle of the Covid debacle. RAC van came and assessed the car was not quickly repairable, major auto gearbox fault which eventually cost over £4,000 to repair (That's a story of it's own) Recovery truck came to load us up, whilst there a motorcaravan got stuck in mud turning round to leave his pitch the breakdown guy went over and dragged him out then hitched my caravan up and took us to Chester, now about 8pm. (But his driving hours were up). RAC said it would be the next day before anyone could pick us up to go further because of a severe shortage of drivers due to covid they could deliver a hire car for us to go home and they would recover the unit themselves. We opted to sleep in the van and wait. We were collected from Chester at 5 AM and brought home, Car to House, caravan to storage. A hire car was then delivered for the included three days. Two days later RAC came back to take the car to Dealer appointment. Maybe different like the Mayday service is with Green flag you pay extra for the service? All the elements of vehicle recovery are separate entities. Things have definitely changed over time with regulation. In the early 90s we broke down in Manchester going to Cornwall with the Caravan and the RAC took us down to Looe with one driver and one recovery vehicle in one hit. Best MPG I have ever achieved towing. 300mpg, we where only 6 mile from home when we broke down.
  23. Quite painful to watch - to be fair, recovery services and the companies that operate 'em have always been shoddy (yes, I'm sure there will be exceptions) but you know what I mean....... I've been rescued/recovered a few times in my 55 year motoring career and none of the events stand out as commendable.
  24. Sounds good, it will certainly stand out in that colour !

Maybe explain exactly what you mean by that, as AA has never done anything I wasn't expecting, and I can't think what you mean by 'taking over your radio'.
  26. Happens a lot to me, depends which direction you have the vents pointed (ie onto yourself or the windscreen) and on the outside temp vs the aircon temp. Annoying but not a biggie I don’t think?
  27. There should be a button low down on the driver's side B pillar (between the front and rear doors). If you press this before locking the car it will disable the internal alarm sensors until the car is next unlocked. Doing that will stop most 'thermal settling' car alarm incidents.
  28. A late update on this post. I did buy a used replacement unit only cheaply and easily installed it. No issues since. Thank you Pab567
  29. Thanks for all the comments I have now completed the job and got the information on how to remove the arm rest from a website that does not tell you "how to" but shows you the parts make up in a drawing, I was just not happy with the amount my handbrake was coming up even after fitting the new parts and waiting for them to bed in. cables can stretch and even snap so it's good to get a heads up on how to do the job perhaps before it happens

Bilstein B6 damptronic if Skoda don’t cover them for you.

  33. Hi folks, This may well be an issue which has already been discussed and solutions posted. This is just my personal experience. I had a problem with the driver's door window on my Yeti - it would close one shot but not open one shot and I had to hold the switch to get it to open all the way down. I looked online for a solution but all I could find was advice about resetting the limits of the winding mechanism and removing/cleaning or replacing the switch. I tried all the reset fixes I could find but none of them cured the problem. Then a distant bell started ringing in my head. Previous experience from over 20 years ago, when I had a Mk.4 Golf with a drivers window which would open one shot but not close all the way one shot, suggested a simple solution which I used to fix that car. I thought it worth a try on my Yeti. I fully opened the window and simply sprayed a fair quantity of silicone lubricant down both the front and rear window glass channels, then cycled the window fully up and down 6 or 7 times to distribute the lubricant. The window now works as it should and is one shot opening again. Definitely worth a try before you start pulling switches out and cleaning or replacing them. A 5 minute fix for the price of a shot of silicone lubricant. I hope this advice helps anyone with a similar issue.

Open Android Auto Settings on your phone and choose to alter one or more of the following settings: Start Android Auto automatically Start Android Auto while locked Start music automatically There are many more settings that may be of interest.
  35. For me it has the following 5 uses: 1) Ability to remotely check that it’s locked. Very useful for those “did I lock the car” nagging doubts when you are some distance from the car, avoids a long walk back to check only find it’s locked! 2) It contains a tracker so you can see where your car is. Useful if stolen or you can’t find/remember where it’s parked. 3) Entering destinations into the sat nav. Using the app, which uses goggle maps, is much easier and then upload it to the car. 4) It contains the history of all the driving that gets displayed on infotainment screen. 5) Digital Certificate with service history. When I started writing this post I thought it was 3 uses but it expanded to 5 very quickly.
  36. Quick job today to clean up the leaking joint to the heater, and fix. Yeah right 4 hrs later an extra trip to @repconz - really helpful staff at New Plymouth branch as always. The pipe I got was a bit snug and took some cursing to get on but I got there and the rusty pipe is gone.
  37. Quite pleased with that! There was a bit of an incident with some gold spray paint being used in the garage! So power wash, snow foam, power wash, hand wash, power wash, clay bar x 3, then polish !!
  38. Noticing this thread although there are other places you can ask questions ( and be ignored) one thing Mr Rubbish is missing out is permanence. You ask questions or give answers and they can be sticky or searchable for ages here, in fact hard to keep them off google. I often come back to questions I've asked and find them on cross searches :D Try that with something like FB forums, this is why dedicated sites like this can trump others.

"The wastgate flap allows controlled leakage to limit the boost pressure from the turbo. I wouldn't mind betting that this is repairable without needing a new turbo, though probably not by a main dealer". At the moment it is "showing wear" and the garage don't seem too concerned at this stage so with a 12 year old car and the way the car market is changing (and the fact I wouldn't know what to go to next) I'm going to adopt my usual head-in-the-sand-and-wait-and-see approach.
  40. A failed ABS wheel speed sensor perhaps?
  41. I've had mine 11 years come the end of May and no plans to get rid of it. Even for local runs I get 42mpg, a bit better on long runs but then it's usually laden with luggage and family. And even under those condition the little 1.2l engine has pulled me up steep hills in Devon/Cornwall and the Peaks with barely a gear change. I have to say after living with it for these 11 years I would struggle with a meaningful answer to "How could they have improved it". But I may be biased. My worry is writing this one off and not being able to get another.
  42. This thread has descended to a battle of wits between unarmed men. tom
  43. Close the window and release the switch then hold switch up again for about 5 seconds. This should reset the one touch operation and also reset the mirrors folding from a long press on the locking fob if the car is equipped with that.

Many thanks guys Looks like i have to stick with diesels.
  45. £450 🫨🫨 that’s steep , you’ve got a Skoda not a top of the range Audi
