  1. It seams that older cars are in high demand and prices are up for good early 2000 - 2010 cars, people are getting pi$$ed off with unreliable modern cars and there high repair costs, Get yourself an old honda jazz, toyota corolla or rav while you can. You can get a whole car for the price of a modern dual clutch gearbox plus change back. The guy in this video knows what he's taking about
  2. It’s item 27 (and quite possibly 64) on their Approved Used inspection checks: Appalling service indeed. I’d certainly be updating the review to (factually) downgrade it if it were me. Gaz

Took the car for an errand today and it stopped and started so many times I turned it off. So it works properly now :)
  4. This. I’d be getting it rectified with MO involved and then changing the review to 1 star and outlining in the review about the blackmail used to get 5 star ratings from customers..
  5. Good afternoon, welcome to the forum. First - be extremely wary of replacements from any accident-damaged vehicle - seat belts are 'once only' devices and very likely may not prevent injury, or worse, if involved in another accident. Trim level will not affect model of belts fitted - belts from any Mk 1 should fit - but I cannot stress highly enough the importance of possible damage to the belt mechanism.
  6. No problem. I understand that thr 265 is 2.5bar tyre pressure whereas the rest of the range is 2.3. On 2.5 the ride was poor and noisy. I dropped it to 2.3 and it's great.
  7. I get that Novichok, thank you for sharing your ownership emotions and the lovely photos. That’s an understated, classy car. Lovely rims and good to know that, even on those 19” ones, the ride is still comfortable using the damper settings. The dealer got back in touch with me this evening. Goodness, he works late! He is asking for me to send him the specification for the car one last time so he can check and finalise the pricing. I’ll do that in the morning. You need to get these things right! Thanks again.
  8. I've done 8k miles in my 265 L&K hatch now. I really love it but it's because I enjoy the what it does for the price point. It's not an alfa romeo so it's not going to make me desire it, but it does have appeal. Firstly, I like the look of the hatch. It's elegant and crisp but with a big dose of old fashioned which I love. It's not trying to be ultra modern or shove a design language down your throat, it's comfortable with itself. Quietly handsome and well proportioned without being attention seeking. On the road it's practically invisible and people expect me to be some inert guy, and that's it's superpower, basically everyone underestimates you and ignores you and it's quite freeing. Its more than fast enough and its the luxury of having more than enough power that adds to the character of not trying hard rather than using it all the time. The handling in sport is amazing. In fact it's overkill for a car of this size and type. You can confidently lean on the grip and get on the power early and feel the rear drive becoming active. It's cool that it has the ability but honestly not something I'd miss from this type of car. Maybe good for a getaway car if you need to rob a bank. I love that I can carry the family in comfort, all stretched out and the dampers in the softest setting allows me to ferry them around with a little waft. Game changer for me is the travel assist which is pretty close to automated driving. Reduces the fatigue and burden of long trips by 50% plus which for me is something I really value. Even with the performance I can get 43mpg on a long run so best of both worlds. Massage seats with the heating are amazing especially after an evening swim. Matrix lights are great too. It does everything I need and it does it well without having to shell out mega money for a premium badged car, and I think that's part of the fun of it. I've got my cake and I'm eating every slice.
  9. 1) Not really. We've owned a few TSi and a few TDi Yetis. One TSi had an oil leak at fairly low mi les, fixed under warranty. Listen for timing gear noise at idle if higher miles. If DSG, the mechatronic can fail. 2) As with previous comments, the pre facelift 140 and 170 (a few made it to the facelift) were both good engines, with no adBlue required. The 150 is a bit more economical, but has adblue. I liked the 170 for performance, but the 140 and 150 are both good and you can have 4wd to use all the power.
  10. I smiled when I read your P.S. My late father was passionate petrol head who in retirement had a 3 year cycle - a year enjoying his new car, a year deciding what to have next, and a year dragging poor Mum around dealerships doing the deal on his chosen replacement. After years of Mercedes ( with two detours to Jaguar and Volvo ) he was ignored in his chosen Mercedes showroom, and he took his umbrage off towards the BMW dealership, got stuck in traffic, took a left turn and on passing a Skoda dealership went in for a coffee. He left having ordered a Superb ( Mk1 ) It proved faultless and he went on to replace it with a Mk2 before hanging up his driving gloves aged 92. Coming back to your concern - it was weeks after his first order that he allowed Mum to tell myself and my big brother that he was buying a …………. Skoda 😳 . We laughed about it then, I would certainly laugh now. Spec an A4 avant up to L&K Superb estate - the cost of badge worship is far too high for me. Tell your friends you’ve come away from Range Rover to Skoda - the ones in the know will nod approvingly, the ones who smile a patronising “ Oh, a Skoda “ are the same ones who will pay £100 for a Waitrose bag of shopping while the clever, knowledgeable amongst us buy selected food items at M&S and the rest at Aldi and pocket the thirty five pounds saving without surrendering an iota of quality. When it comes to the perception of Skoda , I think it comes down to the old cliche ‘If you have to explain - they wouldn’t understand”
  11. I’m not exactly qualified to respond to some of the questions posed by Arianne. ( but that’s not going to stop me 😂 ) I’m two and a half years into ownership of an L&K Kodiaq 200hp Tdi. I have just ordered a Superb Estate L&K ( now 193hp) Tdi. Build quality and reliability on the Kodiaq has been excellent, which is why I am comfortable going with Skoda again. Like you, I want a proper car again rather than a faux truck, SUV ,or crossover , or whatever moniker the marketeers and motoring journalists are using this week. I came to the Kodiaq after 8 years with a Mercedes E class estate. I tow a large and heavy caravan and launch and recover a 5m Rib from a soft sand beach - hence wanting four wheel drive. I had to be pulled out of axle deep sand a couple of times with the Merc , the car was fine, but the damage to my ‘best driver in the world’ ego was catastrophic 🤣 The Skoda has performed it’s beach duties faultlessly. Diesel v petrol ? I understand the noise concerns, but when getting over ( just) 30mpg towing the caravan, frequently seeing the right side of 55mpg on solo journeys and even getting mid 40’s when I drive it like I’ve stolen it. Going diesel again on the Superb wasn’t a difficult decision. Just as you have the SLC for blowing away the cobwebs Arianne, I ride a motorbike which hits a limiter at 186mph ( allegedly your honour )and Mrs Busa-Boy has a Mini convertible which she occasionally allows me to play with, so catching pigeons in the car is of little interest, I need grunt. I’m hopeful of even more impressive figures with the Superb with its lower drag coefficient. The 800+ miles on a tank of fuel is a bonus too. Spec wise - no need to spend hours on the configurator, tick the sun roof and tow bar, done. Oh, and after a rush of blood I’ve gone for 19’s - I’ll rely on the DCC to keep my dental fillings in situ. Arianne - a couple of things from your posts which puzzled me a little ………. You raised concerns about developing mileage anxiety when financing a previous car on PCP . My current Skoda was funded on a PCP ( for the first time in my life - but Skoda were offering 0% at the time ) It’s on 10,000 p.a. With a guaranteed residual/settlement figure - who cares about mileage ? At the end of the period if I’ve exceeded 30,000 miles, I’ll just buy it. The other observation I would make ( at the risk of being a little cheeky ) you mention in passing, a second home on Lake Como and frequent skiing trips to Austria. That might suggest that budgeting is not as critical for you as it may be for many Skoda customers. Buy the car, give it a whirl to the end of the warranty, then make the decision to stick with your plan and run it for seven or eight years, or flop it and get something else. I am even older than you ! ( by some margin unfortunately) so a certain Liverpudlian Mr Lennon’s quote “Life is what happens while you’re making plans” rings true for me - just buy the car ! Finally, I am totally perplexed by one recurring issue in your posts, …………. Do you really allow Mrs A input into the Next Car decision making process ? 😳 😂😂

  13. I was lucky enough to accept quite a reach gift by my dealer in Greece, which included, a seat coolbox-excellent by the way- cables for connecting phones, and accessorie display brush to replace the original fitted with refill liquid, a total series of care products, all weather floor mats, and of course the original mud flaps, that were also installed for free.... It is true that installation was a bit awkward....there were were a couple of holes not matching, and I was asked to allow to drill....but they were cautious enough to double check the package, to discover that there were a couple of fittings included, that replace the original screw holes, so to fit perfectly...so, no drills in the end😋
  14. Hello everyone, I'm Domenico (Pirrotto) I am Italian but I live and work in Switzerland, where I drive a Skoda Octavia mk4 purchased and used for 3 months. I used to drive a full-equipped Seat Leon mk4 2020 and I miss some of those optional features on the Skoda and I would like to understand how to add them. I am very happy to have found. Ciao 😊
  15. Hi and welcome to Briskoda @Pirrotto
  16. HI! I'm new here. Driving a 1999 Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi. I have experience repairing and modifying some VAG-group cars, owner of VW T4 and Seat Cordoba. Want to learn from other users and share my experience here. Thanks!
  17. Good point .... And thanks for all the input guys ...... (& girls ?) Lol.)
  18. I was lucky that my local dealer offered to fit them free as my new car was delayer by a day. I recall them saying that they were awkward to fit and some careful drilling was required.
  19. Hello All First time poster and first time Skoda owner (well it's my wife's car). Picking up an Elroq VRS in Meteor Grey, 21 inch Vision alloys, heat pump, Winter pack and Maxx Pack next week. Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.
  20. If you want a diesel there is a very good reason to go for a later facelift with the 150hp engine. It avoids all the problems of the EA189 engine fix.
  21. After 10 months of ownership the Subperb L&K has been fine. The only lingering issue is a creak round the drivers door which I cant be bothered to get the dealer to look at till it needs to go in for something else. On the look and feel. Its not as elegant inside as my old A$. The rectangular drivers display with enormous bezels is ugly. But its easy to drive and comfortable. For me the physical "smart dials" and heater controls are an essential. I hate poking at touch screens when driving. So thats a winner for the Superb. If you want physical controls then the choice is very limited now. People who have travelled with me are usually surprised at the interior quality and the ride. When you explain the price vs a BMW 5 series (similar size) people get the reason for buying one.
  22. Since I have had access to a gps I have confirmed that nearly all my cars odometers are accurate (depending on tyre wear) within a couple of percent. The exception was a Hyundai Santa Fe mk1 V6 which turned out to be about 8% optimistic. The speedometers on a previous mk2 and current mk3 Octavia were/are about 7% optimistic. The Santa Fe was 10% optimistic. I don't really care about speedo accuracy once I know the variance as I can allow for it. An optimistic speedo is useful if lending the car to my son :) Fuel economy display figures are based on fuel used and distance travelled and do not use the display speed. So I always do a quick calculation when I refuel with actual distance and refuel amount. My 2014 Octavia mk3 1.4tsi fuel display was slightly pessimistic when new but over its life and 117k km the display has progressed through very accurate to increasingly optimistic, so I now have to take off 0.3l/100 off the display to a more accurate figure. A simple test is to set the cruise control (which is related to the speedo display) for a set figure (say 60kph) and then reset the average speed display for journey while in motion, after a few hundred uninterrupted metres the average speed calculated by distance travelled is shown and can be compared against the speedo. I would have hoped that VCDS would have allowed adjusting the displays for speed, distance and consumption separately, but according to the OP this might not be the case?
  23. Latest update: Installation of dual dash cams (front & rear). As on my ex Superb Mk3 Estate, I wanted something OEM-like. I searched on Ali, as for my Superb, but nothing. So I had to chose a FitcamX set, with a slightly higher price, BTW. I thought it would take me 2-3 hours, given my experience with my ex-Superb Mk3. But it didn't go as planned. I spent twice as much time... 😳 Initially, I used the same routing as on my Superb Mk3 Estate : from the center rearview mirror where the front camera is located, I ran my video cable along the A-pillar on the left side, down to the door sills, along the entire left side under the door sills, then back up above the rear-left wheel arch. And this is where I decided to check if I could reach the rear washer jet area correctly with the remaining length of video cable. But obviously, no 😤 ! I would have missed something like 30-40cm... 🤦‍♂️ Situation analysis...Going along the roof, would saves me from going down and then back up... So I have to undo everything to start again from the upper left corner of the windshield. 🙄😤 But this is not ideal, since this routing is along the curtain airbag. Thus I've used aluminium tape to fix my video cable the car body to prevent the cable from messing up the curtain airbag deployment if it were triggered... Okay, anyway, it's installed. That's the main thing, 😃! It may sound silly, but I have to say I had got used to these dual dash cams on my ex-Superb Mk3, and considering the number of so-called 'F1 pilots' and incredible behaviors I've seen since I've sold my Superb Mk3, I'm glad to have dual dash cams again. I find it calms things down a bit... With my ex Superb, I actually just showed my front cam in the rearview mirror to 1 or 2 guys who were driving crazy, and I saw a kind of doubt in their eyes. As if to say, "Errr, damn..." and they calmed down a bit... But, it probably didn't last long... 🙄 Anyway, glad to have these devices again. 😊
  24. I was lucky / lazy, I had a 12v cigarette socket in the boot. That I could splice off and use to run the trailer lights. 10amps should be plenty.. All done but taken me probably 5 hours.. I certainly didn't find it a quick job. My slight OCD making sure that all the joints are soldered and heatshrunk didn't help.. Spent about a hour rewrapping everything with loom tape.
  25. I have year Account for all
  26. Why reward them for their appalling behaviour? They certainly do not deserve even 4 stars after this. Given the evidence, they will have no choice but to fold and rectify the fault once the Ombudsman gets involved.
  27. Great news, if only every fault with a complicated car was that simple.
  28. Great that they were stupid enough to put it in print. Here's hoping for a quick and favourable resolution for you. I suspect they will have no option but to fold immediately the MO gets involved. This will be hugely more damaging to them than a slightly luke-warm review!
  29. Hi all. Thanks for feedback. To close this off just a note to say that a local garage sourced an after market unit and replaced. To my untrained eye i cant tell the difference to the other one. Cost all in was €500. Over half the cost quoted by the main dealer. Happy to have it sorted before the rain came!
  30. Well that is an absolute crock of shi**. They cannot say they will only rectify an issue on the basis that you have to give them a 5 star rating. And then actually withhold fixing it because you gave them 4. The MO should have great fun with that!
  31. I've never owned or even driven a VW 1.0mpi but I have great respect for it from some of the consumption claims in the Briskoda Citigo section. The power figure of 75ps at 6200 rpm is respectable although not unremarkable as is the torque figure of 95Nm but the kicker is that maximum torque is achieved at a comparatively low 3000 rpm and I think that is almost unique for its size and type. Not many engines, regardless of size, could match that and small capacity engines usually produce their max torque at 4000+ rpm, like my 22yo 1.3L Toyota requires 4400 rpm. Having extoled its virtues, it is still only a normally aspirated 1 litre engine and you can't expect too much of it. I can't find much on the web about performance of the 1.0mpi but there were figures that said acceleration from 80 to 120 kph was 31 seconds in 5th gear and 20 seconds in 4th gear. To me that suggests the manufacturer's gearing is (not surprisingly) about optimal and that a longer top gear is likely to worsen performance and consumption. I have driven a more powerful 1.0tsi Fabia manual and was extremely impressed by consumption and ability to cruise economically at highway speeds, with a load, at sub 3k rpm. That would be my choice if looking for a better balance than you currently have. Like others, I see little point in all the work and expense involved for an extra gear and a potentially less satisfying car.
  32. Nothing more for you but we don't want other viewers to think a new battery will cost £395, these car part places have some strange pricings - database, algorithm, AI, human error, policy, who knows why. £146.08 or even Google Euro prices seem better than £395. I've had neighbours pay about £100+ more to have a battery fitted than they need to, same or even better battery for £100+ less.
  33. Don't tell him your name Pike! 😆
  34. They must have estimated the location based on journey times through the Birmingham Road works!
  35. Mine has flagged up the SOS symbol a few times now, 2020 Kamiq. It's been inconsistent, around every couple of months it faults. One time it faulted twice in the same week. It's been at least 6 months since I've had it happen, fingers crossed it's fixed itself 😁 Probably show up next time I drive it, I've jinxed it.😉 I just leave it and it goes away when I next start the car.
  36. Very doubtful. In my case, generally if you switch off the engine, wait a few minutes then restart, the fault clears.
  37. A few pictures from our weekend... If you squint a little, our Yeti almost fits in 😁. Our friend made us a Yeti for our Yeti! 😁 Yeti chilling out in the Yeti 😊. Don't leave a white car unattended when there are muddy people around 😂.
  38. Here's the new abs cable bracket I've made up. Fitted With cable routed I made one for the other side, but it seems that I forgot to take a pic.
