  1. These figures of 85% and even 90% relate to what? It looks to me to be percentage of EV drivers/owners who have access to either home or destination chargers and, as such, are totally irrelevant to the discussion re public charging. To get more people taking up the option of driving electric, you have to get into the real world and reside outside of that cosy bubble of having the ability of home charging and also destination charging at your place of work.
  2. Perhaps what some EV drivers forget or ignore is that it's not that difficult to do a very minor diversion and pick up cheaper fuel rather than pay motorway prices especially on regular long trips. For our regular trips to Germany I have a couple of locations that are no more of a diversion than a regular motorway services and you pay what is more or less the going rate for that area. I'm not aware that public rapid charging has massive variation by location so you are fairly stuck paying the extortionate rate wherever you go.

Call TPS and with your VRN they will be able to tell if you cant get the road wheel off.
  4. The UK Government is not seeing the BIG PICTURE, they seem to be seeing there is those doing well with the BIK for business drivers and those being able to get electricity from Non Public chargers at under 10 pence a kWh or even 30 pence normal tariff, even with VED to pay and 3 pence a mile from 2028. Nothing in it for Private drivers that have to pay as much as running an ICE vehicle & then on top of that the 3 pence a mile penalty.
  5. I'm retired so workplace charging isn't an option. Until we have the house and garage fully rewired we have been advised by more than one electrician that home charging is not viable due to the out-of-date switchgear and poor quality of electrical feed to the garage - so we've decided that our replacement vehicle cannot be an EV on running cost grounds, so we will be having either another ICE or even a HEV.
  6. fitted the LED fog light bulbs this morning. No errors or flickers. Really pleased with the look. Will take some pics in the dark tonight Can you guess which one has been changed so far?
  7. probably. on both cars i didnt feel nothing when driving, normal driving, just until mil occured, when i scanned errors were multiple random misfire detected and missfire detected on cylinder 1, 2, 3, and 4. on renault wrong sparkplugs were in engine, replacing solved missfires and MIL. on tsi intake was full of carbon buildup, after cleaning, also solved..
  8. The MIL being lit is the important part, many misfires are not consistent enough and frequent enough to set the MIL (the ECU software allows a few misfires happening infrequently) - as @Evolution13 points out provided emissions are with limits then the MOT will pass.

Its an easy DIY job, you just need a good set of Torx screwdrivers and some time, took me about 40 mins. be mindful you dont dislodge the sd card readers accidently. bit of a sod to have to dissemble it again to re-seat them. 11. It’s certainly looks well worn. Straightforward to change, you are supposed to fit new bolts when you replace the wishbones. The Mk 2 is different to the Mk1 wishbone.
  12. @lol-lol Plenty chargers in Scotland. Sadly plenty of those not operational or operate at half power or less. £60 plus million of public money thrown the way of Charge Place Scotland, BP, SWARCO and others. Grants to private or public owners of chargers that were supposed to give 2 years free electricity / charging, and many made unavailable. Maintenance of many Council Owned Chargers / Hubs pathetic. Many Public Chargers out of order while 'Employee use EV cars have chargers, just not all the cars being used, so neither are the chargers. Corruption possibly, it will maybe all come out in the wash. PS. Seemingly another £85 million has been allocated to the roll out of the critical EV charging infrastructure in Scotland. Confirmed in Jan 2026 by Fiona Hyslop MSP Scotland's Transport Minister, who is driven about in a Petrol PHEV with faulty charging. Or was when i asked her driver why he was parked in a Charging Bay not Charging at the opening of a New EV Charging hub.
  13. That was on my previous 19 plate Octavia 1.5tsi se dsg estate, I now own a 20 plate with the same engine, but its the sel spec. I think it was cylinder number 2 I had the misfires on, but when Skoda took it in for a diagnostic, they said another plug was going down, too. Not sure which. Then they tried to charge me for the diagnostic, new plugs, until I informed them that they'd replaced them during its last service, just over a year ago lol. They then appologised, offered to replace the two faulty ones for free, as the plugs were guaranteed for two years. I then paid for the other 2 to be replaced, whilst they were on. I was expecting them to replace all 4 for free, but they said their parts guarantee would only cover the ones that were faulty. Can't get much tighter than that. Unless they didnt change the 4 initially when they said they had, that wouldn't suprise me, either. There was no software update performed by them, afterwards, as far as I could remember. Once the plugs were replaced, x4, engine ran sweet, again. My own view, I dont think the plugs were initially changed, prior to me buying the car, eventhough they'd said they were changed. So at tge point of failure they may have been at least 5 years old. The car had around 65k on the clock then with a fssh. It was on two yearly oil change intervals, ex fleet. Unlike my current car, oil has been changed yearly at around 7 or 8k from new. Which I prefer.
  14. Considering I have done about 2000 miles since Oct 2025 now the MPG wasn't a concern but the performance was coming from a 1.5 TSI Taracco with this car happening to be available local to trade in the Seat for this. Seat didn't have any 2.0 ones either so hence why this was purchased, although I nearly bought a Cupra Terramar (SP) but turns out they are not that big. Happy with the Skoda now but has taken a few ££££ to get to this point so hoping can enjoy the rest of the years now
  15. True, one reason I haven't changed yet is that I can't find a decent replacement. I'm now leaning towards an older car with a decent reputation, one that dates from before all the touchscreeen and driver aids crap was trendy. I can spend the difference paying a specialist to fully service it and replace anything that's wearing out.
  16. Those cracks are exactly the same as mine, and they were replaced under warranty 👍🏻
  17. I expect that there will be many others in a similar position to you on that score as well. That would not be an insignificant cost either. That is another thing that politicians, as well as many more privileged people, would do well to understand. It will be many years before home charging becomes a reality for loads of people, even for those that would appear externally to have off-road capability to enable charging.
  18. Thanks Colin, I really appreciate the help. This has been first foray into dealerships for a long time after years of company cars, so the lackadaisical attitude of some of the 'Sales Executives' came as a bit of a shock. At least the internet can help me find and research a car anywhere in the country without leaving the house 😁
  19. Even the heater? try to look if you have power at this fuse, they are related to the heater; just to understand if there is any power.

  21. I just went for cheap bulbs from AliExpress. https://a.aliexpress.com/_ExCMD4y Fitting is easy. Remove adjacent trim, undo two torx screw then whole unit comes out. Undo plug and twist out bulb. Then the reverse to install.

Thanks. I appreciate that things can break at any time. My point was that the gaiter was fine then, and I haven't done 10,000 miles with dirt and grit getting in through a split rubber. It could be a broken spring, as I hit a nasty pothole about a mile earlier.

Very very likely. The engine is unwell. So a 1.4 TSI PHEV. Why in limp mode. Spark Plugs / Misfires, Injectors or something else. Even the Turbo Disabled or a couple of cylinder even though not an ACT engine...
  25. I am not an expert in anything, so that includes scan tools. If I remember correctly as far as I have seen the Launch is nearer TopDon programing but I might be wrong. These and Autel are Chinese and may share or copy each others machine casing (and carrying cases) from the same Chinese suppliers, I always imagine that they got much of their original programing from it being 'gifted' by arrogant Western car manufactures or their contractors. Lifetime updates is good but that might depend on the country the unit is sold to and the price of unit at point of sale. The small screen and speed of operation of the basic Elite might be a bit annoying if you are used to larger screens and quicker operation but fine for our DIY use if your eyes are OK. I can not imagine that the basic Elite will be able to do as much as the VCDS on a VW vehicle but of course if you can load more brands on and unrestricted VINs those are advantages. The basic level OBDEleven I am not sure how restricted or not that is. There are lots and lots of different makes and models of scan tools and the models seem to still change so good prices being offered for new unused previous models, to clear stocks, that are fine other than not being the latest model. All scan tools even the very expensive professional ones have their pros and cons and some garages and diagnostics professionals will have a collection of various priced scan tools finding some better and/or more convenient to use on some vehicles than some of their other scan tools. You are in the ideal position of being able to compare your friend's Elite against the VCDS and basic OBDEleven on your Superb MK3 so perhaps then you could report back and tell us how you find the comparison on the Superb and perhaps on your friend's and other vehicle makes and models it can work on. Do remember to make sue the scan tool is fully updated before you use it on a vehicle and that the vehicle's 12v battery is in a reasonable state of charge and health.

Check for the Dust plate. With that corner jacked up spin the wheel and listen for trapped stone. Checking for a broken spring needs more effort. 2 months ago / 630 miles ago means nothing. Things can break any day, even on the way away from a test.
  27. TESLA Supercharger lowest prices at several locations that suit me if near at the time is 28 pence a kWh. @ Perth right beside Perth & Kinross Council 50 kW chargers @ 55 pence a kWh at the same 'off peak' period.
  28. There is a certain amount in a cycle before fault codes for misfires are logged, or before a warning light, or even before a vehicle goes into Limp Mode, maybe even disabling the Turbo.
  29. i had renault 1.6 before and now karoq 1.5 , all gasoline cars and when missfires occures after that MIL light on dashboard, with that cant pass mot in my country..
  30. The steering wheel connector is a one-piece 41-pin plug, so it would be a bigger problem involving the airbag light, no high beam (flash or fixed), etc. I'm not saying that isn't possible, but instead of being unplugged, it could be some broken wires maybe. (It looks like the picture, it's gray, and it connects behind the stalks)
  31. As far as I'm aware the car should have adaptive cruise control as standard. Predictive/Adaptive cruise control can be specified at the time of ordering but after delivery is only available as a subscription/function on demand or a one-off purchase. The necessary hardware is already in place but needs to be activated with over the air software. Using the DVLA system I checked a few of the EU74BVx registration range and they all seem to be 2.0 litre diesel models. Possibly allocated to the Skoda press fleet or a bulk order for a large main dealership. I have a 2025 Sportline with the 190 diesel engine. I strongly recommend you go for one with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC). This will give you drive options such as eco, normal, sport and individual. It makes a massive positive difference to the handling of the car. DCC does not come as standard on the SEL model but is available as an option.
  32. You can be be pretty much stuck paying high Rapid or Ultra Charging prices pretty much all over the country if you do not have 'Subscription rates' or are near TESLA Superchargers. 65 pence and above a kWh even if getting 4.5 miles a kWh is too damn much.
  33. @Phoenixboy Which year of manufacture 1.5 TSI ACT was that one. Do you know which 2 plugs failed. Cylinders that fire all the time or the 2 that are Deactivated / Cylinder on demand? ACT / COD. Clearly some issue, engine management or A.N. Other. Did they do a Software Update as well as replacing the plugs?

Keep in mind it works ONLY with Amundsen units, it does NOT work with Bolero!
  35. Hello! LighningMcqueen here! Just bought a used 2022 model Skoda Kodiaq Sportline TSI here in Dubai. Been using VW cars for the last 6 years, but this is the first time with a Skoda. Hoping to learn more about cars from all of you guys.

Hi. Bought my 2017 Rapid recently and had this issue also where it had the hardware already for SmartLink but needed an activation Key, I’m going to guess this is what happens when you tap on SmartLink? I recently purchased a little Carista OBD scanner and followed this tutorial and manage to get CarPlay working so it might work for you. I believe that if it didn’t natively show SmartLink, it would require a modification to the USB port in the centre cup holder but I’m not 100% certain so someone else might be able to advise you. This was the tutorial I followed:
  37. @nta16 no problem- that was 2020 nearly 6 years ago now. Still have the Metro of course but finished volunteering at the Foodbank at the end of March 2021 after 12 months of continuous volunteering, 5 by 8 hour days each week driving a Sprinter van delivering food parcels and collecting new supplies. Seems a long while ago now.
  38. The current version will do that. A USB stick is probably better as not sure you could get the whole thing on a CD. Most versions of Linux can be run from a USB stick to try them on your PC. https://linuxmint.com

Hi all! Came here looking for answers and discovered a buzzing community! I’m MrBungleBear, but usually get called BB or MrBB online. My wife calls me Geoff… Had quite a few Skodas - Superb in 2002 (only brand new car I’ve ever bought - first son warranted quality - twins next saw me part with it for a Shogun LWB! 3 car seats across). Then went with an Octavia, a Kodiaq and now in an Enyaq iv80, which I love but wish it was more Kodiaq size and feel). Wife had a Fabia for quite a while. That’s me! BB
  40. Two of my plugs failed on my previous 1.5tsi Octavia within two years of them being replaced by skoda. I then managed to get skoda to replace them again under their two year parts guarantee, but they would only replace the two for free, so I paid them to replace the other two, whilst they had my car. Although they didn't charge me labour for the two I paid them to replace lol. I really didn't see the point of only replacing two at that point, as two of the original 4 they'd replaced had failed.
  41. The name C-reader Elite could cover a number of options and may vary depending on which country it is sold to so you need to ask or see from your friend which model it actually is and see or research yourself what the one he is getting actually claims it can do. If it is a bi-directional tool then it will probably cover some 'coding', activations and adaptations and service stuff, what exactly depends on the exact model and package bought. If VAG brands are covered then it will probably cover a 2021 VWŠkoda Superb Mk3 for some 'coding', activations and adaptations and service stuff, what exactly depends on the exact model and package bought. Your friend and you if either of you are using it on your car will need to ensure the programs on the C-reader Elite (or any other scale tool) are up to date before using and that the car's 12v battery is in a good state of charge and health otherwise on long use you might have issues. It is very doubtful that the C-reader Elite will be at the same level as OBDEleven and certainly not VCDS but it depends at what level you want or need to operate as to what it covers. The package that your friend has bought with it will detail what service stuff it can do and possibly other bits but this might not be across all ages and marques and models or ages and models of VAG. What is it you want it to do?
  42. Bingo! I get it now! I spent a great deal of time prodding the on-screen ‘buttons’ to try to make a selected destination a ‘favourite’, but all to no avail. Then I realised, from one of SteveTheElder’s earlier posts, that when you get to ‘Save’ there is a flashing cursor at the beginning of the already entered address. What you have to do then is totally and utterly counterintuitive! The cursor wants you to start overwriting the address you’ve already selected by either re-entering the address all over again, or, preferably, by renaming the address, eg ‘Bob’s place’,. When you’ve done this, then ‘Ok’ will light up. Press ‘Ok’ and your destination will be in ‘Favourites’. In the case of entering, say, ‘Bob’s place’, Bob’s actual address will appear on the line below ‘Bob’s place’ in the listings. I imagine if you didn’t do this but entered the whole address all over again (when the cursor was flashing), you’d get the re-entered address showing above the original identical address when you look at the ‘Favourites’ listings. Why on earth Skoda decided to ridiculously overcomplicate something which should be as intuitive and simple as possible is beyond me. Next thing. Is it possible to re-orientate the map display so that it is always ‘north up’?

Lee, low mileage on a car isn't always a good thing for some aspects of the car, the engine possibly being one, cars are designed to be driven but lots of short trips wouldn't help the car generally and certainly not the engine. 7k-miles in three years isn't that uncommon for smaller cars but it does mean, new or old, that the engine oil at least probably was in need of an annual change which you would have thought and hoped took place on a new Audi. If there's not a fault in the engine then it would need a silly error or fair bit of abuse and neglect to get the engine oil level 1 litre below 'min' was it a hire/rental/courtesy/pool car, though I'd have thought those usually get much higher mileage in one year let alone three.
  44. What makes you believe that load of guff? Most ICE drivers are well aware of what their MPG is and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to quickly calculate how many gallons are required to get you back home and possibly to another filling station where much cheapness can be enjoyed on the fuel, for instance, there is a Shell garage near me that has diesel @ £1.69 a litre and there is a BP garage where I can get diesel @ £1.33 a litre. Now my car is currently doing with a mix of urban and town driving roughly 45mpg so that 31 miles that Evolution13 speaks of only costs me £4.13.

Hello all 👋 I’m new to Skoda but I’ve had many many cars over the years. My dad however has had many Skodas (and other VAG cars) in recent years and loves them. I am and engineer and have a huge interest in classic Japanese cars and modified cars in general, but recently my commute has increased and I needed a cheap and (hopefully) reliable car that does good mpg. While searching Facebook Marketplace 2 1/2 weeks ago I found a 2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate with a recently lapsed MOT, 173k and full of mud/dog/horse, up for £500! I went and had a look and found a few jobs needed for the MOT but nothing obviously awful and it looked pretty tidy under the mud, so I chucked him an offer of £350 and he took it!! 😁👌 In the last few weeks I have been cleaning it up and prepping it for its MOT, and I may of been adding a few mods, because why not 😉 so hopefully in the next week or so it will be on the road. 🤞 I’ll do a proper build thread in the Fabia section soon 😁 Thank you ☺️
  46. For everyone interested, I put the newest versions ALL in ONE link: MIB3_Skoda_SW_1941_1969_1985_1989 I upgraded with this files one by one, no issues. Hope it helped.
  47. External EGR, where exhaust gases are fed back into the inlet manifold is rare or unheard-of lately in petrol engines. Tends to be done by valve overlap and adjustable valve timing now, I believe. I think from around 2006 petrol engines started shedding external EGRs, in VW group stuff anyway. Diesels naturally make more NOx and need more EGR (and latterly SCR/Adblue) to deal with it.
  48. What discovered with this "size" of VW Group car - in my case, a 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS 6MT, is, if the car makes the odd or even frequent suspension noises, for a longish period in time, after I've had it up in the air on 4 jack stands, just for brake servicing and/or swopping Summer/Winter wheels/tyres, the suspension becomes free from any noises. Top mountings, hum, in this age/version of car, the top mounts are just located/sitting in, an inverted cup and have a large washer, ie retainer under the top nut - to avoid these top mountings from escaping if you ended up doing something completely crazy when driving that car. Earlier and later versions have the top mountings bolted onto a flat area of the body. I've tended to consider that it might be a smart idea to remove the top nut on both sides, then lift the car up enough to create a space between the top mounting rubbers, and then get some talc powder in there to act as a lubricant, then lower the car down, fit the large washer/retainer plates back on and new self locking nuts - and see if that quietens the front end down. Note:- I replaced the front struts, springs, bearings and top mountings on my wife's 2015 Polo last year, and this winter it does, for the first few speed bumps when cold, make these noises, the new top mountings were sourced from VW and they didn't look like there was any "treatment" applied to the outer surfaces that contact these inverted cups, and there is no instruction to apply anything like talc powder to them before fitting them - but there again, why or what made VW Group dump this form of top mounting when they replaced this version of these cars- maybe having to deal with too many complaints/rework while under warranty.
