Looking to buy a vRS TSI - how can I tell the difference between the 227BHP and 242BHP?
Not true - all versions of the Mk3.5 vRS came with 18” Gemini wheels as standard. Both 230ps and 245ps variants also had 340mm front brakes - the difference is that the 245 has 310mm vented rear, rather than 272mm solid. The easiest way to tell a 230 vs a 245 is to take a look at the rear brakes. The interior stitching on the 230 is also white, whereas the 245 is red - this is probably the most useful when looking at an advert. You can also check the door sticker for the engine code. 230ps models will be CHHA or DKTA, whereas 245ps will be DLBA, DHGA or DKTB. The DKTA and DKTB variants are Euro 6 with the GPF. You’ll find people claiming that the 245 has black exhaust tips - this isn’t true. They were, technically, meant to, but a lot of them didn’t. The 230 was phased out around 2018, but build dates and dealer stock means some do exist with later registrations. You want to get the 245. The extra power is irrelevant, along with the rear brakes - but you want it for the LSD and DQ381. Nothing wrong with the 250, but the 7-speed ratios are just that bit more friendly. The LSD, frankly, makes the car what it is. You’ll find that the prices are pretty much the same - whether it’s a 230, 245, 245 Challenge or whatever. The base build spec of both cars was the same - that’s how my 2020 car has ACC, the digi dash and £600 worth of black paint on the spoiler, but manual folding mirrors and no heated seats. If you want to do some research on the 230 versus the 245, you can compare the GTI to the GTI PP. It’s the same thing. There are lots and lots of posts about this - just use the search function.3 points

GPS Spoof problems
2 pointsI would have thought if the error was because of GPS spoofing, you'd have the same error whether you're using the phone GPS or the car. I know when sailing in the North West of Scotland near a NATO exercise I got the same position on my chart plotter, my phone And my tablet - positioned 500 yards away in the middle of an island2 points

Towball Height
2 pointsLooking at the fitting instructions for the brink towbar as an example. The cross member can be fitted to the side beams in two optional place depending upon Octavia and superb models, the superb mounting bolts are lower, could that possibly be the error. https://www.pfjones.co.uk/Thule_Brink/4054470.pdf If you get underneath and have a look it may be possible to see for yourself?2 points

Thoughts on buying a 2007 2.0 PD TDI (auto) Octavia estate?
I've got the 1.9pdi with 189k miles. I've owned it for 16 years and yes, now getting a bit smelly. I can't really see the 2.0 being much better in this respect. These engines are apparently bulletproof and that mileage shouldn't scare you. I'm tempted to advise you to keep it, even if you have to renew the clutch. My car also has the dsg box and apart from often being jerky, has been totally reliable until last week when it gave some problems. I have a separate thread on this, but I'm hoping it's abs sensor related. Remember a gearbox problem on the dsg effectively writes off the car where, on a manual, a second hand box is relatively cheap. Another thing, a dsg box has a clutch, I think it's quite expensive to replace.2 points

Looking to buy a vRS TSI - how can I tell the difference between the 227BHP and 242BHP?
The link you’ve sent is an early 245 Challenge. It’s all a bit bullsh** as the “edition” cars have black tips and… nothing else. All 245s were supposed to come with black tips, apparently, but some/most didn’t. My car, meanwhile, has the black pack which, for a mere £600, comprised of a black spoiler and… nothing else. The grille, mirrors, etc were already black as standard - they couldn’t even give me black badges. The Challenge cars are supposed to come with all the boxes ticked as standard, but couldn’t manage a pan roof, digi dash or any other big ticket items. IMO, the Challenge should have been the standard level of trim, virtually. I’m still amazed VW sold a 2020 EA888 car with an LSD, but with manual mirrors and no heated seats. The only 5E/5G/5F/8V cars that attract any more money than other examples are, really, the GTI CS S. Some of the nicer specced ABT Leon Cupra Rs, GTI E40s and TCRs also hold their value slightly better than standard models, but not by that much. Something like a top-end S3 Vorsprung is worth a fair bit, but it’s still depreciated horrendously considering the MSRP. The only Skodas that are even in the same book might be the vRS245 and Superb 280 4x4, simply because they’re a bit niche and not that common. Even then though, I doubt you’ll see any real price difference between a vRS230, 245, 245 Challenge or whatever else. Super special GTIs aside, the MQB enthusiast market isn’t really substantial enough to keep prices high for anything special. Not in the same way as the hot Civic, Megane, Yaris or any other serious enthusiast cars, anyway.2 points

DieselMonte's 2012 Monte Carlo Project.
Lots of work done last few days Pics out of order a bit but: Engine bay cleaned down, new coolant bottle on, darkside braided clutch line on. New caliper sanded, primed and painted Came out very well for once. Whiteline rear anti roll bar off, keeping it for the SDi. H&R bar is non adjustable, but powder coating seems fantastic on it vs the whiteline, have to say the clamps for the bushes were a bit of a nightmare to install. Bits of rust treated and painted up. Standard dual mass 4pc kit gone one, new slave cylinder, bolted up lovely Foreshadowing Swapped out the shifter for the one out of the SDi originally, as it was in better shape than the one in my car, in spite of being 11 years older than the car, and having more miles. no matter what I did to it, I could never get it to feel as tight as I wanted it to. Shifters are different but bolt up the same, otherwise fit and work the same, figure I can get a new bush for the SDi shifter and be golden. Had solid shifter bracket bushes and was able to work my solid cable end bushes on the 6 speed. It works, and it feels fantastic. New bleeder for the clutch also, it's bled up perfect, and feels brilliant so far. Brakes all bled fine etc Starter connector is different, easy to swap them considering I had both cars to hand. Currently stuck waiting for hardpipes, standard boost pipe no longer fits because the 6 speed is that much bigger, no way of working it and I did try. Also found a pinhole in my downpipe Least it's not split fully at the welds. Seeing if I can just get a replacement top piece vs welding it, again. Changed the gear oil on the box too. And pulled the vrsdi asunder for its subframe. Painting the subframe from the monte became a mess, it will not stick, and paint stripper just turned it into a sticky gooey mess, horrible. Plus is it'll be back on its caster increase bushes, and I get my wishbone ducts back. Not far from being done But still a bit left to do. Couple other trick things, least I have time to sort some of them given it's gonna be down for a while longer. Forget if I ever did a modlist, but I'll do one up after this. Power will be whatever the injectors are capable of, but cross that bridge when it comes to it.2 points

Volume keeps turning up??
1 point@omeromeryigit Hi Omer, I have exactly the same issue. I took the car to the dealer and they told me the screen needs to be replaced. Unfortunately my car is a 2023 model and the warranty has already expired, so I don’t think they’ll cover it. I’d like to try cleaning the touch bar with IPA myself before spending money on a new screen, but I’ve never taken one of these apart before. I tried sending you a PM, but the forum won’t let me because I don’t have enough posts yet. Is there any way I could contact you? Either through PM or any other channel you prefer.1 point

Fold in exterior wing mirrors overide?
It is the third time my wing mirrior smashed by a car in 9 months. I moved in and live in country lanes and narrow roads. They drive too fast and do not pay attention. I want to know if it can be overridden by VCDS to allow unrestricted closing of the mirror at any speed? The current limit is 20mph above to prevent the mirror wing from closing. This is frustrating as my old Honda Jazz mk1 can close at any speed!1 point

Citigo starts but dies
1 pointThanks both. I'll try your idea Alasdair but I'm fairly sure the ignition will have been on for lengthy periods while I was checking other things. Won't hurt to try though. It's the reprogramming cost that is the problem, Skoda wanted to change the dash panel but will not guarantee the result but will charge 1400.00. If that doesn't work I'm back to square one and 1400 quid down on a vehicle worth 2 or 3k. How would you resync the key with the car? I should say the remote locking etc works perfectly. Warrior, the main dealers were very nice people but had the car for 11 weeks and could not get anywhere. Oddly they suggested the immobiliser but then wanted to change the dash panel.1 point

Citigo starts but dies
1 pointIf SAFE is displayed then I reckon imobiliser is stuck on. Had same problem with old SEAT as I used a bad key fob which I assume transponder chip had given up. Couldn't get imobilser to go off afterwards even with good key. Seat garage said they may have to reprogramme ECU/imobilser at quite a cost as codes etc would have to come from SEATEurope and maybe a new ECU. I ended up getting another car and left old Seat in my carpark. Eventually battery went flat and when I charged it up to try it again it worked for some unnown reason. Maybe disconnect battery for a longer time (overnight or more) and see if it helps. Also check any fuses related to security etc. You could also try and resync key fob with car. Also try key in ignition and turn till dash lights are on but dont crank and leave for 15-20 mins. This can sometimes resync key with imobilser. Alasdair1 point

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
Hello all 👋 I’m new to Skoda but I’ve had many many cars over the years. My dad however has had many Skodas (and other VAG cars) in recent years and loves them. I am an engineer and have a huge interest and a small collection of classic Japanese cars and modified cars in general, but recently my commute has increased and I needed a cheap and (hopefully) reliable car that does good mpg. While searching Facebook Marketplace 2 1/2 weeks ago I found a 2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate with a recently lapsed MOT, 173k and full of mud/dog/horse, up for £500! I went and had a look and found a few jobs needed for the MOT but nothing obviously awful and it looked pretty tidy under the mud, so I chucked him an offer of £350 and he took it!! 😁👌 In the last few weeks I have been cleaning it up and prepping it for its MOT, and I may have been adding a few mods, because why not 😉 so hopefully in the next week or so it will be on the road. 🤞 So the plan is to keep this pretty cheap while making it my own and keeping my fuel costs down. I can’t leave anything alone so I will make excuses to have a play with it 😁 So here is my cars story from the beginning……….. Pics from the advert:1 point

New Skoda Superb Mk4 goes offline after underground parking loss of signal
I am a former Skoda owner these days, but my Seat Leon PHEV (which I think has similar systems to the latest Superbs) had a "grey globe" after I parked it in a car park for several hours where there was no signal. I don't park there regularly but after I'd left it took a long time (nearly a day?) for the white globe to come back. See my post on this thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/534961-car-not-connecting-to-internet/#comment-5986203 The rest of the thread may be useful to you too if you've not seen it yet. My theory was that if it can't "phone home" due to poor signal, the car stops trying to use the mobile signal after a while, to preserve the 12V battery, perhaps more so with the PHEVs. If it can't find a signal, it feels like the car gives up for a while - maybe until the next day, maybe for 24 hours? I wonder if there's an option in the infotainment to turn off remote connectivity when you park if you know there's going to be no signal, to stop it trying to connect and failing? You'd lose remote access to the car (but you may not have that anyway) but it may be happier to connect when you come back?1 point

Alpine i902d-OC3 - Octavia 3 upgrade
I would still sell it. It was completely plug and play. No coding needed at all. Camera is plug and play too. I’ve got a full harness extension to move the connector from the glovebox to behind the screen. Along with an extension GPS cable and DAB aerial. The only things needed doing were a bit of tape around the DAB connection (there is a small converter on the end which I found could work its way loose when manoeuvring the screen into place), and the factory USB plug needs to be unclipped from its housing, and a cable tie and foam used to hold an included extension in the correct place (once it’s in you would never know it’s been done). It has been on Reddit yeah.1 point

Lot of work going on Engine and all out Front off Shed load of parts to go on 6 speed has been taken from the vrsdi Spare 5 speed box from another monte gone in, bolts straight in etc, provided you swap EVERYTHING, works just fine. New shafts and all going in this. Finally the Cr170 turbo ive been sitting on for years being put to use Took some bits down to powerwash, intercooler came up insanely well, bit of polish and itll be golden. Subframe being stripped and repainted, again. Be touching up some bits of rust etc, very slight but its all apart so its being done. Turbo off. Box off. Currently at 188k miles. Clutch has had its day anyhow, never slipped never gave me any trouble, original clutch all along. Springs rattling around in it so was due in anycase. New rad and condensor. Rad was weeping slightly and not had working ac in years, used compressor going on also.1 point

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
So after we seemed to have overcome the previous drama, I booked the car in for its MOT for the following week. This gave me a bit of time to do a bit more interior cleaning and fitting some new parts like a new (unbroken) gear knob and gator and some delightful (temporary) mats that my mate gave me 🤣. It still needs more work to be up to my standards but it’s much better and will do for now. Then it was MOT day………. AGAIN!! 😬 But this time it made it there without any issue at all! 👍 And later that day…….. WE HAVE A PASS! 💪😁1 point

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
After spending 2 weeks prepping my little Fabia for its MOT it was finally booked in. However, after 99% of its journey to the test station being perfectly smooth and nice, the last 1% ended up in a cloud of smoke and an engine runaway (that thankfully stopped when I cut the ignition!!), right outside the test station! I was gutted after all the work I had done and was worried that it was as serious as it looked, and it looked to me like turbo oil seal failure! 😢 So I bailed on the MOT and the garage took a look at the issue instead! When I went to collect the car from the garage later that day, they said it’s definitely the turbo failed as there was lots of oil in the intake, BUT they did mention that the oil level was also slightly high (they said 1cm). By chance I got chatting to a guy outside who turns out to be a VAG specialist and told him about my runaway issue. He said it’s likely to be turbo seals BUT it could be the oil over full being sucked up through a breather into the intake. So I got the car towed back to my mates unit to investigate further! Well on further inspection it turns out the oil level was way higher than I or the garage noticed it seems. The oil was so thin it barely showed on the dip stick over the max level, but looking more closely you could just see a sheen on the stick! Well after realising the oil level was high, I dumped all the oil out to see how much by. To my surprise there was about 8.5 litres in there!! That’s about double!! 😮. It also smelt of diesel and was thin like water so likely cause would be long term failed Regens by driving lots of short journeys. Yes it could be a failed injector but it still drives really smoothly so is looking less likely. I had all the turbo pipes off and drained the small amount of oil in the intercooler as best as I could. I did find that the oil starts in the system from the crank case breather, which is BEFORE the turbo, so it was now looking less likely the turbo seals were at fault 🤞. So it now has the correct amount of new oil and a new filter. It now runs so much smoother and quieter with no smoke at all. So after a lot of drama and worry that my budget car was about to fail me or cost me, with no more than a good service we seem back on track!! Phew!! 😁👌1 point

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
Well I’m a little behind on some updates so here we go again! 😁 On further inspection, I found the car had a broken suspension spring! Well I could have just replaced the spring, but where is the fun in that! I don’t need much of an excuse to mod and upgrade! 🤣 I looked on FB Marketplace and found someone selling a full set of Prosport coilovers with mondeo drop links at a reasonable price, so I bought them 👍 On delivery, I stripped and cleaned the coilovers which were almost like new, and I sprayed the threads with motorcycle chain wax to prevent the adjusters from corrosion and seizing. Next up was to fit the kit to the vehicle. I’m really happy with the results. I can’t go super low as I have a steep driveway to contend with but it has certainly made a difference!! 💪1 point

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
Borbet’s suit it 😎👍 I was doing the same as you two years ago but for different reasons. I needed more space in the back than I had in the GTI, for my mobility scooter. At first I was going to trade the GTI in for something larger, but couldn't bring myself to give it up (I've had it since new). For the money it'd cost me to trade, I started looking for a second car with the room I needed, and I ended up with a V70, which I still remain chuffed to bits with. I paid over the odds, but a mate in Norfolk, who's very shrewd when it comes to cars, said he would have happily paid more than I did, which I took as a great compliment. Apart from routine servicing, all I've done is put a new battery on it and repaired a broken plastic screw, which cost me the grand sum of n'owt 👍 Gaz1 point

The next thing I did was to activate my DRLs with the switch next to the fuse box plus adding the fuse! The standard bulbs weren’t great and one had blown, so I changed them for some white LEDs. I also added some yellow LEDs for fog lights. I’ll probably upgrade more bulbs as I go! 👍1 point

Its first mod time 😁 I needed some tyres, so I used that as an excuse to buy some alloys with tyres 😉 Keeping to my budget theme, I hunted on FB marketplace and found some slightly rare VW/Borbet 17” Boavistas, which was an option wheel on the Polo 6R Highline. They were a bargain price (and I paid less than the advert states 😁) as they were a bit kerbed but I’ll give them a referb later 👍. Conveniently they are exactly the same size and offset as the 17s found on the Fabia Monte Carlo’s so fitment is not an issue 😎1 point
