Dashcam Switched Power

When you say it threw a wobbly, I assume that it switched from displaying the speed to a live feed display of the road? This what happens with with my Nextbase 622GW and apparently it is caused by the dip in supply voltage when the Starter kicks in. The good thing however is the camera continues to record and is not affected by the change in display. This will happen regardless of the fuse you are connected to.

Thanks Graham, but it rebooted, or at least tried to and it got stuck in a cycle of constantly looping the start up sound with the Nextbase logo stuck on the screen. Had to pull it off the click&go mount.

Hi all, popped the panel closest to the door and it came away easy enough. You can get to the fusebox through the side here and there's two points into the frame you could use to ground. Just thought

In that case then, it is an indication that the small internal Lithium Ion battery is failing, I had that happen before on my 512 dash cam, sourcing a new battery and fitting it will cure that issue.
If you don't feel that is something that you could do, then Nextbase do offer that service for you.

Hi ,

I came here to post something I encountered recently with my Skoda Karoq, it happened during snowfall when car was parked and I tried to clean the rear wind screen by activating the rear wipers, it failed to move and I also realised the Dashcam isn't getting any power. It seems like the rear wiper fuse had gone bad, because it is the same fuse where I connect the Dashcam wire as well.

Also, the rear wiper when it was in working state had issues like, intermittently stopping (not reaching full wipe) and starting when rear wiper is activated.

Anyways, I will check the fuse and update.

Thanks

You were lucky if you only blew a fuse. Mercedes Sprinter vans snap the wiper arms.

Hi everyone,

Can anybody suggest an alternative to fuse 47 (rear wiper) for tapping the Nextbase Dashcam, I earlier used it but had issues with rear wiper not functioning properly stopping before a full wipe. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I am also attaching 2 pictures of my installation for LHD Karoq. Initially I've started undoing the glovebox only to realise that the fusebox is fitted there only for RHD Karoqs. Spent a good minute trying to locate the fusebox behind the glovebox, only to realise it can't be there for my car 😬

Wiring is not as seamless as I would want and is stressing the gasket a bit just when it starts going under it, but I think it would be fine. Not yet confident pulling the side panel especially when an airbag warning is written on it 😅

In March 2026 I bought an August 2024 Koraq SEL to which a Nextbase 322GW front & rear dashcam had been fitted when it was supplied new. The dealer hadn't connecting to a 12V switched supply but it is powered via it's USB socket. It's not connected into the USB socket by the rearview mirror nor into the 2 x USB sockets in front of the gear selector. So I assume it's been connected direct into a USB connection some where.

Why do this & does it have any problems other than slower battery charging? It seems to work OK.

The only other potential USB ports that I know of are on the back of the center console for the back passengers. If not connected there, they must have wired it directly from somewhere.

My Karoq doesn't have the USB on the back of the central console. I think they are an optional extra cost item.

All dashcams that I have had and seen are powered via a USB lead that plugs into the dashcam itself. Is the USB that you're seeing? I have had mine hardwired into the car's electrical system so that it automatically switches on when the ignition is powered up, but the cable running to the dashcam is always a USB and, depending on the make and age of the dashcam, will be micro, mini or USB-C. The other end of the power cable terminates into a power adaptor that converts the 12V to 5V for the dashcam, and the wires are normally connected into the car's fuse box.

My Nextbase has a seperate socket on the windscreen mount that accepts a special Nextbase plug/lead directly connected to the car's 12V supply. The dealer didn't use when installng. The camera would then pick up the power through it's connection to the mount.

Oh, now I understand, but that wouldn't make any difference to how it works. I have a Nextbase 622GW which also has a socket on the mount to which the power lead plugs into and the dashcam then has a multipad magnetic connection to the mount and picks power up via this connection, enabling the dashcam to be taken of the mount. But the camera can also be fed directly via its USB connection, it just makes in slightly harder to remove the camera and plug into your PC.
