Well it is bloody ridiculous. On a positive note the Mercedes B team in Pink were clearly sandbagging at the tests so Ferrari might struggle to qualify top 6 in Oz.

Anyone who follows F1 knew Ferrari were up to something which either bent the rules slightly or were totally outside of the rules. After the summer break Ferrari scored 6 pole positions in a row and won three of those races. At Austin Texas the FIA issued a clarification on the rules regarding fuel flow to the engine and Ferrari had no poles for the last three races and one third position finish. I recall that when the hybrid engines first came out Red Bull tried to increase the fuel flow rate to the engine in the opening race of 2014.

Quote

Ricciardo (Red Bull) was excluded from the race result for a breach of Article 5.1.4 of the Formula One Technical Regulations, which govern the maximum allowable rate at which fuel may flow into the engine. The team were also referred to the stewards for using an unauthorised method of measuring the fuel flow. However, the team immediately announced their intention to appeal the Stewards' decision claiming that the sensors provided by the FIA to measure the fuel flow are unreliable.[10] The appeal was heard by the FIA on 14 April, but it was rejected and the disqualification was upheld.

 Sounds familiar?

There have been several occasions in the hybrid era where cars have been excluded from race meetings for even momentarily exceeding the fuel flow limit (Renault most recently I think) but one team appears to have deliberately done it, gained a huge performance advantage from it, and not been punished at all.

For me this is at least the equivalent of "Spygate" where McLaren were chucked out of the constructors championship and fined $100 million.

Just hoping the Pink Panthers stuff Ferrari in Melbourne.

Perez was seen to back out of hot laps repeatedly in sector 3 over the last few weeks.

I cant wait to see how quick that car really is.

Will any GPs happen in the near future?

MotoGP have just scrapped the season opener due to covid-19.

There was a rumour last week that the F1 season might not start until Zandzoort at the beginning of May.

Binotto says a poor start to the season will prompt an early switch of resources to 2021.  Can't believe a team principal being quoted like that even before the first race. Ferrari confidence and leadership looking underwhelming already.

With Williams migrating to Mercedes power I hope they regain some of their past glory.

Um... they've had Mercs in the back the whole time F1 has been hybrid (since 2014).

I stand corrected. I was confused by an article mentioning Renault power and I thought they were using the Renault power unit

Begs the question then why are they still there unless cheap drivers are all they can afford. Magnusson £1.4 million and Grosjean on £1.8 million salary.

That neither bring sponsorship is of note - Both are proven and can be quick. Haas would rather pay these two than take  renta drivers with cash. The car was shocking in racetrim though. Gene Haas is looking for results early in the season or he's not continuing for 2021.

Many drivers don't get paid at all. Kubica for instance, bought his Williams drives and has now bought a DTM drive.

Currently watching season 2 of "Drive to Survive" on Netflix and 2 favourite quotes so far from Haas Boss Gunther Steiner when he said he wanted to sack both his drivers (2019 season highlights) and Mercedes Boss Toto Wolf described F1 as going to war and needing to crush the opposition. No space for Losers in F1 clearly. Can't wait until Melbourne on Sunday.

And yet, who are the Ferrari C team drivers again this year? ;)
