I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

Excellent. Well, if I'm unable to change the units between kmph and mph it's staying with them. Manager told me he'd ring me today. Guess we will see.

The Guinea pigs at least get free food and board & do not have to buy the equipment in the first place..

So,

Waaaay back in March (Here) when I suggested to Skoda UK that the solution to my 'complaint' was to replace the head unit with a later E revision was the solution, they're finally doing it. Ahhhh well, mine's long gone.... currently driving an 06 Passat... and this:

Skoda have not done themselves any favours here..... but they have initiated my mid-life crisis....lol...

Hello NOEONPLANET40.

Any news about your replacement head unit. Did it fix any problems?

I haven't heard back from them. Other than when I rang last week and was told that the head unit fixed the problems HOWEVER, it raised another error (they didn't specify what it was) and were waiting to hear back from Skoda UK. That was a week ago. nothing since.

Now I'm curious to know if this PN is the same HW as 5E3035816x and it is a pure SW upgrade or whether there is a BOM revision, etc.

Today would be the first anniversary of owning my Octavia (had I kept it) and it's disappointing to see that these problems are still extant. Given that I took it in the day after and was told by the garage that there would be an OTA update imminently, this is a bit ridiculous. (and I know others had their car a while before I got mine)

Hi again, Although it is not quite 12 months since I bought mine which I kept for 6 months pitiful belief of the reassurances we received I am pleased I took the full refund + some and am now in a Ford Kuga ST+  which delivers in all ways having very similar electronic attributes as the First Edition but with the difference that they all work fine.  Only downside is the Kuga is not as frugal as the Octy but then it is 190bhp.

Good luck everyone and I trust that eventually Skoda UK will deliver on their word although the responses listed on here do tend to be somewhat repetitive, contemptible and insulting to the intelligence of their customers.

9 months to the day since I had got mine, almost four months since I rejected it and it is still sitting at the back of the dealership untouched.

This is why I urge people over and again not to buy one, irrespective of the few 'positive' stories posted on here (which usually include the phrase "...but I can live with it", relating to a perceived minor issue).

I know what you mean. I went for the Tiguan with the same 1.5 TFSI engine and most of the electronics from previous generation VW / Skoda and everything works brilliantly. The only downside is the fuel economy :)

Agreed - but I've surprisingly found the Kuga to be a far better and more responsive tow car than the Octavia so in a way they did me a favour.

It is a open topic about software problems with there cars.i understand everyone has a opinion.yet what gets me people who have rejected there cars keep coming back onto this site.to still complain abouut the rejected cars months after WHY.i would of thought with them having other makes of cars they would be on there web sites.not on a skoda web sites.just my. I own a Superb now and frequent the Superb forum.

I got a lot of help and useful info on the Octavia forum when I had mine. I don't find it problematic to look in on here and chip in to help people on the Octy forum, if you look you'll find plenty by me just this week trying to help people.

Part of that may involve urging people not to buy one, having experienced the worst car I have ever owned in the Octavia MK4.

To repay my debt and help people is why I am here I guess.

I've been following this topic right from the start (back on page 1!!) This was my 5th Skoda and the worst car I've ever owned. The faults were one thing but the response of Skoda UK and my garage were something else. With this forum, I was able to get in touch with similar experiences to combat the inevitable "Oh? That's the first time we've heard of that. You must just be unlucky". I was able explore my options and get a resolution. I've also had a few DMs asking me about the specifics which I've responded to.  Like Gax says, I want to be able to respond to others if I can help.

Besides, I still want to see a resolution to this. I know there's people on here who are still driving round in hire cars months later. I'm rooting for them to get a resolution and for the Octy to be the car it should be

Sorry if I offended anyone it was just my opinion if i rejected  a car and went for a different make.i don't think I would be visiting this site much .i accept what you are all saying ie trying to help people.i should of thought that before putting my thoughts on this site.

I’m one of those that @fox2319 refers to - driving a loan car for four and a half months whilst mine is at the dealer.

I much appreciate the support from this forum, indeed it was from here I got the ‘nudge’ I needed to escalate the issues to Honest John and Śkoda UK.  Whilst I can understand some of the negative comments others can be a bit irritating. Having said that, we all make comment based on our experiences, both current and past; and some of those experiences are much worse than others!

For my part, I massively frustrated by the time it is taking to get a fix (and a few false dawns) but on the whole my expectations have been well managed by Škoda UK and my dealer. All helped by driving a Mk4 Octavia loan car which works absolutely fine.

Thanks for your comments and to answer your thoughts I was one of the first to put pressure on Skoda UK by involving Honest John and Pietro Panarisi, Head Of Press and PR at Skoda UK.  Until this everyone was suffering total denial by Skoda UK when at long last they did acknowledge they had an issue especially with the inability to change KPH/MPH a legal requirement.  Sad to say that despite several months of excuses little progress appears to have been made.

I have remained a watcher on this site because I have a genuine interest in the vehicle and definitely would not have change had I been provided the service from Skoda I had every reason to expect with my purchase.

I wish you well

Speaking for myself, I wasn't offended. It's a fair question. When I finally dropped the keys off at the dealer, I left the forum for a while. It was just so stressful for me to have a car that was a random fault generator every time I got in (personal fave was the one where Siri activated every time I turned the wheel to the right. Not on every journey but it was starting to happen more often).

Since coming back, I've limited myself to the topics where I posted before unless a new relevant topic comes up. I'm certainly not one of those who posts doom & gloom warnings on every topic from someone who's considering a new Octavia (well, not any more at any rate :) )

The other thing to remember, and my experience over 19 years ove being on here is that Briskoda is about more than just Skoda's...   Its a real 'community', albeit a virtual, worldwide, one.

That's why so many people stick around even though they no longer own a Skoda...

I'm like @snealand I still drive a courtesy car. I took delivery of mine on a Thursday evening and kicked off the non compliance the last weekend of Feb. I only drove mine for 10days or do. I was given an Octavia First Ed but was switched to a seat Ateca once I had to drive to France for family matters.

I have little update/communication from Skoda UK nor the dealership; however, they have been really good sorting the courtesy cars and getting me one with French insurance/etc.

As long as I get my car by early December, I'm happy to wait... But then, I would need a  European covered car with winter tyres as I had bought winter Skoda wheels for my ski trips.

I'm not offended, it's fine.

I wish I still had the Octavia. It was ideal for me, I wouldn't have had sleepless nights and months of stress and I was certainly paying less for it as well.

I wish mine had been sorted out and I genuinely and sincerely hope everyone does get sorted eventually. I can only be honest though, and based on not one forumer has returned to say their car is 100% cured, and my 9 month old car is sat rotting away in a locked compound, if anyone asks if we think it is worth the risk buying a MK4 I'd rather give my experience and opinion to save someone else going through what I did. I also think forums telling people not to buy a car can only add pressure on Skoda to sort out the dodgy cars they have already sold.

Edit for a p.s...

If I didn't still have a Skoda I definitely wouldn't be hanging around here!!

While my problems were not as serious as many of yours, including the dreaded KMH/MPH issues, I am glad to say that they were eventually cured. See my thread "Aussie RS owner with software problems". They turned out eventually, it seems, to be hardware problems since they were cured by replacing the infotainment control unit. That it took 3 months is regrettable but now I am happy with my Octavia and I look forward to driving it more when we get out of the lockdown that we have endured for over two months now.

Good stuff matey. 😀
