Infotainment System Restarting endlessly

Featured Replies

The one thing that I think is causing it, is the Bluetooth connection as I didn't activate it today and the system didn't reboot at all. I'm going to disable Android Auto next time and just see if I can use Bluetooth for phone use only and see what happens.

  • I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday.

What software version are you on? Did you have a recent infotainment OTA?

Am on 1900 and there was an OTA update the other day for me

Since people were showing their software versions, I checked mine and it is VW as well, surprisingly.

This. On Monday I had the system reboot three times during a 10 minute drive. Since then, I've kept Bluetooth disabled on my phone when going close to and being in the car. No reboots since.

EDIT: I had wireless Android Auto disabled while the reboots happened, so the problem is likely separate from AA.

So if yours is like it, mine like it, how many others are like it?

Folks if you read this, can you try it?

Make sure that your phone's WiFi & Bluetooth is switched OFF before you get into the car and then start your car as normal and see if it reboots at anytime.

If you have an Android phone you can get it to change the PBAP settings 1.2 & AVRCP to 1.6 in developer mode.

Settings - Software Information - Build Number (tap it approximately 8-10 times) it will release Developer Mode, scroll down through it and you'll find something like Screenshot_20230616_230124_Settings.thumb.jpg.24eb341b83aae11754a04652719abcbf.jpg

BPAP is in one of the other menus.

Ive just done it and I will endeavour to test it tomorrow if possible.

I put my iPhone in flight mode one time. Infotainment system rebooted and the phone told me to turn on Wi-Fi to enable CarPlay - so even in flight mode the phone worked out I was in the car…

Flight mode usually does not disable Bluetooth nor WiFi, that's why... It's basically just a toggle for the cellular radio.

My hasn’t restarted this morning after disabling Bluetooth and WiFi. I am on iPhone.

obviously not a long term solution but good to see that the issue may be getting narrowed down a little.

Car is at the dealers next week so I will see what they have to say about the issue.

I guess my reboots fall into the category of "random reboots".
So far haven't happened more then 3 times in a day, and if I recall, most if not all, at the beginning of the journey shortly after the map/navigation services loaded and/or the phone connected wirelessly.

BTW - this bug exposes a great potential feature for the VC depiction - higher dial transparency

There are also some new VC firmware released.

Forgot to turn off Bluetooth before getting into the car today, so the phone connected briefly to the car before I turned it off. Had two reboots in quick succession before it settled down. No reboots on my way back when Bluetooth was off.

Mine was reboot free with the phone wifi-OFF, but it's testing over an entire weekend, for about 10 different drives - so statistical error ~30%...

Game Over!!! ☹️
This morning I had Wifi & BT Off on my phone while approaching the car. Started the engine an had an immediate reboot (accompanied by the message: "Maneuvering braking unavailable") 🙄
I moved the car for several meters while infotainment was rebooting (I was still in the underground parking), and it rebooted again several seconds after the first one.
Therefore my first test is over...

I embarked on a new adventure: testing with "not share my position" in User Settings, as @Roman_K suggested.
So far I had 3 fresh engine starts today with this "undercover" user setting, while keeping the phone Wifi & BT ON, and there was no reboot. But as the previous test showed already, I won't trust a test with poor statistical significance.

My WiFi off test failed also a few days ago.

Enough is enough, the car and branding are being ruined by this issue, which they will not admit to no matter how much proof you give them.

I have put a deposit down on a new car and this is going. Awesome car when working. Terrible car when glitchy.

It's probably the sane and pragmatic approach...

One of the main reasons for people buying brand-new cars is not that they love to spend a lot of money, but to have a hassle-free car at least for as long as the warranty extends.
If the Skoda response to all those issues would be to take the faulty car and try to fix all the problems, while providing a courtesy car, some of the affected customers might accept the situation. (surely they don't have so many courtesy cars). But it's not the case...
So yeah, going for another car seems reasonable as long as you do your homework properly and make sure you won't find other problems with a different producer.

Nobody feeling brave enough to test the new Skoda 1941 firmware?

Depending on how easy it is to install.

I only have a MIB2, but the process is fairly straight forward on MIB3

This might give you a basic idea

I know how to access the maintenance system, its just getting the formatting of the memory stick etc right so the upgrade goes without a hitch and doesn't brick the system altogether.

@TheWanderer, Some notes quickly saved at some point:

File name is:
MOI3_EU_VW_R9410L(1941)_3G0919360TG - with VW software train
MOI3_EU_SK_R9410L MU1941.7z - with SK software train

Download and extract .7z then put onto memory stick but make sure files within are the first thing on memory stick. They must not be in the folder name

Make sure memory stick is FAT32 formatted and at least 16GB big.

Plug into car with infotainment on and car battery plugged into charger.

Then hold square home button on infotainment then click top option. Then click start software update on the red and black screen and select usb port 1 or 2 whichever usb is in then click start at bottom and leave it to run through the upgrade progress.

Do not turn off car or unplug from battery charger until complete.

Process will took ~20 minutes

Good luck if you decide to go with the update!
Please let us know the final results.

Cheers

So you must have a charger attached, but if the car is on then there's no need, unless they mean just ignition on.

But if it needs a charger im stuffed as I don't have one.

Unless your battery is trash, I suspect it will be fine.

Make sure to have given the car a good run before, and to turn off everything before you start (fans/heated seats/lights etc) and you would be fine.

FAT32 USB Stick, and you just need two folders from the pack "META & DATA"

Engine ON with Start-Stop OFF will be enough.
I've done this on my previous car without any problems.
It's true - the stress can be quite high through the process and during the several restarts of the system...

It's usually what I recommend to MIB2 upgrades, leave the engine on.

Good to know MIB3 can be done in the same way, even if frowned upon by VAG.

i even update with just entertainment system on, ignition off.
