Infotainment System Restarting endlessly

Featured Replies

Bolero and Columbus are now the same thing, with sat-nav blocked in Bolero by software.

So yes, this software is for both Bolero and Columbus. Not for Swing though as far as i know, as it has own software train.

  • I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday.

And 1941 is still not available for Škoda dealers? Because I've got my cars 2 days ago and it's on 1900 version.

Should be available, but you might need to give them TPI number to find it.

Mine was on 1900, it then did several downloads and that's when the problems started, had multiple issues which seem to have got worse, varooom kindly sent me the link, from which I downloaded 1941 and after thinking hard about it, I installed it and everything has been performing beautifully ever since.

Same here,

Got the car in the beginning of May with 18xx something software, had the 1900 version OTA pushed automatically within a couple of days after. Cannot say for sure if the restarts are connected to other services I downloaded those first days. I was "mildly" affected by restarts of the infotainment, ranging from none to 4-5 reboots a day, all apparently related to the AA or Carplay connectivity. Didnt notice any other trigger.

Now I just installed the 1941 version (ty @varooom), following the plentiful info also provided by others (like sequence of operations, media support type, etc)

Update went smooth, some 18 minutes altogether, plus the 4-5 minutes I waited at the end, afraid to press the "resume" button, that actually ends the process.

It is too ealy to tell, I will get back in a week or so with more info on the post installment behavior.

Cheers to all the contributors from this great community!

@varooomHi would it be possible to have the link for the update?

TIA

I want the link too. 😀

Thanks @varooom, I'm now in 1941 !

🥳

Thanks @varooom

Since upgrading from 1889 to 1941, I can't shake the feeling that the DSG behavior has changed, I just don't know how that would be rational since common sense tells me there should be nothing connecting the gearbox to the infotainment software. I usually blame barely noticeable differences on placebo, but this is more than that.

On 1889, at the beginning of the drive with a cold engine/gearbox, the gearbox would many times judder in 1st before shifting to 2nd, like dropping/easing the clutch rapidly at a pace of 5 Hz or something. The judder was most pronounced at half-throttle accelerations from traffic lights etc. Once warmed up there were no issues.

With 1941 however, I haven't noticed it juddering like that yet, and the shifts going from 2nd->3rd and 3rd->4th feel a bit smoother in general.

Has anyone else noticed anything similar? I can't find a logical explanation...

I guess it's a placebo. I don't think it overwrites gearbox soft in any way. My car is after stage 1 (ECU/TCU) and my settings haven't got overwritten for sure (for example custom shift points). I think those settings are stored in different controllers and the update itself touches only MIB. Ofc I may be wrong.

There's a chance, albeit it very slim that the dealer does not have it... it is not released to all Countries at the same time, but usually not that far behind.

Yes you can install at your own risk.

It is the SAME firmware that the dealer would apply anyway, it is untouched.

So if you still want I can send you a link, and you can decided to install or not.

Can you send also download link to me. Many thanks.

I have car now for 1month and its anoying how this restarts are going on. Also last week i came to the car which was locked and infoirment was on and playing :(

I successfully installed 1941 this evening (rather than trying to convince the dealer to do it next month). I'll be driving this weekend and hopefully it will be restart free.

Thank you @varooom , I feel happy that it will resolve one of my 2 remaining problems (displaying KPH is my one remaining issue) but also sad that I won't need to frequent the forums as much!

For those who are yet to install, a few errors came up during my install, SOS and park distance control, but the update applied successfully. Just be patient with it.

This happened to me yesterday and then this morning three resets. I’ve never had issues like this until today.

just so happened i was on my way to the dealer for a different repair. I told them about the reset and they said they’ll update me next week to a “very new update”

usually they dismiss me about updates and say it’s not due any. I’m on 1889.

You are going to be the dealer's guinea pig is why they seem keen :D

It should go perfectly well, though they will make it a 3hr meal no doubt

That reminds me to cancel my booking,

@varooom, I would appreciate if you can send me the download link as well.

i’m two seconds away from becoming Hulk over the MiB restarts.

I can confirm,

- that SW 1941 is available at swedish dealers

- as several already have pointed out, that dealers won't apply software updates during a normal service unless the customer provides them with a list of experienced issues which they then can try to match to available TPIs.* Just asking the dealer "Are there any software updates available to my car" will most likely result in the dealer telling you "No" eventhough there are software updates available.**

- that dealers will ask you for evidence as proof of the claimed issues and, when you have evidence, will question whether the evidence you're providing is actually from your car. Though explaining the obvious to them usually helps, i.e. that several issues occur during driving, randomly (i.e. can't be reproduced at will) and lasts for a short while so to try to use your phone to record the issue is close to impossible and even illegal while driving in some countries.***

*I don't blame the dealers for this. I've heard from several dealers that the morons at Skoda Sweden are against the proactive roll out of new software. Their reason being that it can cause new issues. I won't go into the level of stupidity, immaturity and lack of responsibility behind such a statement.

**Neither do I blame the dealers for this. They search for available updates for your specific car in the system they've been provided with by Skoda and that system tells the dealer that there are no updates eventhough there are updates available. My guess is that the reason for this is probably that Skoda never had or have long ago lost control over what cars may be affected by what bugs so they are likely not capable of matching software updates to a specific car.

***Neither do I blame the dealers for this. Obviously the morons at Skoda Sweden are behind this. If your car is still under warranty then the dealers have to ask Skoda Sweden for payment for their work associated with installing the software. The dealers are then being questioned by the cowards at Skoda Sweden (the people making decisions at Skoda Sweden hide behind their first-line support instructed to always refer the customer to the dealers) which in turn results in the dealers posing the same questions to the customers. Thus the dealers are getting badwill as they are forced to ask stupid and accusing questions.

The issues regarding the software are, in my opinion, as bad as or even worse than "dieselgate". In a previous post someone mentioned suing the car companies. I haven't heard anything about any legal action being taken against any of the car companies due to the release of poor (and frankly dangerous) software. Anyone heard anything?

After my warranty expires I will be furious if I will be forced to pay for any software updates related to fixing bugs in the system (or "security updates" to features that don't belong in a car to start with).

Reading this feels like Skoda is stuck in year 2000. The legacy automakers like Skoda are so far behind the new ones like Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian. Skoda’s infotainment system in comparison to theirs feels like it’s from stoneage.
