  • I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday.

But of course first question I should ask is "Can I update from 1806 to 1941 directly? 😬"

As I said before you'll temporarily lose the manuals, but they'll come back with other OTA downloads, you should expect between 4-6 of them.

Let us know how you get on.

For those who haven’t read the whole thread. You must be on SW version 1788 or later already

The full instructions are on page 26 supplied by @TheWanderer

Read them first! Don’t just have a go to see if will work as you could brick your system

But if you fulfill these criteria it is a 20 minute easy job that will make your car safe and a joy, at last

Thanks for all the precious help.

1941 downloaded, unzipped and placed on ssd drive

Just plugged it and checked that the update function in the maintenance mode saw it on the drive, which is the case.

Just need to put a battery charger and  press update

But I'll do it after the ski vacation.
It's surely not the time to brick the car with the holiday starting next Friday

But damn, being a geek, it's hard not to do it right away 😆

Just remember your SSD drive must ONLY have the update files on it. Absolutely NOTHING ELSE.

Yes, I read that.
thanks 😉

Hello to everyone, I am a new member here. I am sorry to hear that so many of you had/have problems with your car.

I am planning to buy a brand new car shortly, I am deciding between Seat Leon Sports tourer and Škoda Octavia. From my research Škoda seems like a very interesting car but I came across this thread and became afraid to have problems with infotainment system. I am not going to buy the Columbus system with navigation because I will use Google maps with Android Auto.

My question is if the infotainment system without the navigation also has all the problems mentioned in this thread or are they problem free? I really do not want to buy a new car and have problems, moreover because I have the feeling that the service shop in our vicinity is not the best and cannot be trusted 100 %.

If it's a brand new car then there should be absolutely no issues whatsoever as the factory should have installed the latest software and componentry.

If it was built within the last year or so, then there shouldn't be an issues as it will more than likely have had the updates applied or downloaded to it.

The issues start to creep in from the early models of the Mk4, these may need a replacement component or two & a firmware update as well to resolve any outstanding issues.

That's probably OK because the first modules are already up to date so the updater will skip them.

Hi

I posted here back in November. I was out in France and my infotainment started playing up the day after we arrived, it had worked perfectly all the way down France. Once we got back to the uk it behaved itself. I’m now back in France and exactly the same thing has happened on the day after we arrived at exactly the same spot on the same road. The coincidence of this makes me think this is something to do with location. The screen will not stop on now but boots up then after a minute it goes off, then reboots and keeps cycling like this until it eventually goes off altogether.
this has got to be something to do with location……and software.
any suggestions?

Possible consideration.....

Does the SOS system "crash" at around the same time.  I think a lot of the SOS modules issues were when it swapped between 5G / 4G / 3G signal and this would cause it to crash - this would then cause other issues with the Infotainment software such as, on occasions,  your SatNav position to drift wether you were using the built in SatNav or Carplay.  Got this issue resolved by the dealer updating SOS module firmare and updating software to 1941.

After the screen has crashed then started again four times the SOS system crashes and remains in the crashed state until next day then the whole cycle starts again. Is there any way to disable the SOS system temporarily?

Pretty sure that is not possibe.

Something you might try as a "work around - If the SOS system is in a crashed state, to press the SOS button, in the roof, for up-to 1 - 2 minutes as that seems to reboot it as well as the Infotainment system.  You literally have to keep the button pressed for what seems like an inordinate time but for me that cleared the SOS module crash and also the associated Infotianment issues.  Keep an eye that the system doesn't try to call the SOS call centre, if it does you can usually cancel the call before it connects.

Many thanks for that suggestion. Although it seemed to reset the alarm the infotainment system continued to crash. I finally got it up and running by taking a drive out of the mountains where it all started. Currently it’s running fine but I’ll be heading back to where it all started in a few days so let’s see what happens.

Can someone please confirm that the 1941 update is not an OTA update please, stealer insists its OTA and car needs to be connected to home Wi-Fi (assuming your in range) or hotspot from mobile phone. Also said engine needs to be kept running during update - how long would a 9gb OTA update take ??

When I asked them why can't they do it, the response was - their wifi is secure and won't allow cars to connect ???

It depends. 1941 is being distributed as OTA in batches. Only a few cars have received it OTA so far. The dealership can also update it manually if there's a problem listed in the documents further back in this thread.

BS, unless you're in Australia where the eSIM doesn't work (from what I've heard).

I had this lie from one dealer. When I told them many other dealers had provided the update manually, they magically managed to find "a usb" stick with it on. By then I had taken it to another dealer who just did it without any fuss during a routine service. Try to find a better dealer.

Jorgeminator Thank you - 🙂 🙂 🙂 - I agree, you can tell when someone working in car sales, and dealer servicing is talking BS - their lips move.

The salesperson was adamant that in 7 months at Skoda, and it looks previously at Seat, had never come across problems with the infotainment system, saying "you only hear about bad experiences on the Internet, not good ones"
