TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?

Featured Replies

My reply was similar. It also included the same bad grammar 😀:

Thank you for your email.

This information was never handle with us Directly, it used our Traffic services but each customer did not have an account with us directly, it always went through the vehicle manufacture.

Unfortunately, you will need to speak with them directly as each customer this affects doesn't have an account with us.

Kind Regards

I’m just letting any VW owners that may be lurking here know that I successfully reactivated the TMC on my mib 2 high using 32782 in the 5F module using OBD11 pro.

  • if YOU had contracted the third party, then yes, BUT it was Audi who contracted a third party to provide the service to YOU. Therefore it IS to do with them.

  • I think the vehicle age thing is a red herring. The dealer is spoke to checked his (newer) Golf which had the same problem.  He had checked their “hub” for any information and nothing was forthcoming

They recommended I go back to Skoda UK to explain the issue and hopefully they will escalate it with the supplier. I have emailed them and now awaiting a response...

Shouldn't your Skoda dealer get back to Skoda UK! Especially as they can demonstrate the issue on multiple cars?

Yes I agree - they seemed fairly keen to just effectively say, "it's not our problem". To be honest, since the dealers can't really resolve this I'm not too bothered about them not choosing to act as a middleman on this issue. I'll post a further update once I hear back from Skoda UK.

Reply from Skoda UK essentially making out like they don't believe me and will need to contact the dealer to verify what I've said. They say I may need to take the car in for diagnostic 🤦🏻

Running out of patience now. It's always someone else's problem isn't it?

I have had the following response from Skoda customer services:

I'm sorry to learn the TMC traffic services have stopped working.
Due to the nature of your enquiry, I would advise you to contact  Škoda Support Team as they are best placed to assist with connect enquiries.
You can contact them on the following details:
Telephone: 00800 80 247 247
Email address: *****@*****.tld
that is    support   @ skoda-auto  .  com       take out the blanks

Probably worth everybody contacting them.

I have also emailed BBC Watchdog about it, it has worked in the past with a non car issue.

A warning about International Freephone 00800 numbers. They should be free but some operators charge as its an international call!! Make sure you check with your provider if you are going to phone them.

Well I made a general enquiry to Skoda UK earlier in response to above. Wait to see what they have to say.

More likely will get same response to contact Support team.

Skoda Support for Digital Services have contacted me and asked for a photo of the Traffic screen with the TMC fault and the VIN number.

This was after I emailed the Skoda Support Team email address I posted earlier.

It might emphasise the problem if others contacted them, I have given them links to these threads.

I’ve contacted them as well via email but also via Facebook. But, if one more person tells me to take the car in for a diagnostic I’m not going to be responsible for my response to them.

Aaaand Skoda UK are telling me they can’t/won’t do anything unless I take the car in for a diagnostic. My reply involved sex and travel!

Meh hopefully a map update or an update via the portal will resolve this issue. TMC is a nice backup for when mobile data signal is not good enough

My Karoq has been serviced today by my local dealership and I mentioned the TMC problem. I didn't request any action, just if they had any information as to what was the cause.

My vehicle is covered by an extended warranty so they updated the Sat Nav software and said that they hoped this would resolve it. I had already said that it didn't appear to be an issue with an individual car, so not surprisingly TMC is still not working. I will call them to advise the problem hasn't been resolved. It appears that someone else had been in during the course of the day to raise the TMC problem so clearly dealers are being advised by numerous people. I was told at the dealership that they thought there could be a problem linking with satellites but given that TMC is part of a radio broadcast, I think there isn't any science behind this.

No further forward but clearly there is no meaningful dialogue between dealerships and Skoda regarding resolution. Those posting advising that there seems to be no point in going to a dealership appear to be spot on.

And there's more.....

I've raised this issue with Ofcom.

They are the government's regulatory body for information services such as FM transmission in the UK and should be able to advise and investigate on who has responsibility for RDS TMC provision including Live Traffic.

Fingers crossed !!!

Good shout

Update......

I have had continuing dialogue with Trafficmaster/teletracnavman.

They advise that although they used to have the contract for RDS TMC FM in the UK, this is no longer the case.

Their primary service is to provide satellite vehicle tracking data for corporate users.

It would appear that INRIX (ITIS) are the current provider of RDS TMC FM Live Data on the UK.

I have email INRIX.

Response awaited.

That's interesting, but I'm getting the impression the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.  When I spoke with Trafficmaster they specifically told me that they had turned it off.  That said, maybe then did but if the Skoda system is still configured to use them then it'll require a re-config to change to picking up the signal from INRIX.

“The acquisition takes us one step closer to our goal of reducing the world’s traffic congestion by providing better information globally,” said Bryan Mistele, president and CEO of INRIX. “As one company fueled by a talented staff and an unrivaled set of patented breakthrough technologies, we offer customers the best quality real-time, predictive and historical traffic information and services worldwide.”

This statement seems at odds with what has happened.

To be fair I think this happened in 2011

I spotted this thread on Google and although I drive a 2009 Audi A6 I decided to join in as the TMC function on my car is also not working as it should. I get the TMC icon on the Nav map but sometimes there is a line through it even though I get good reception on Classic FM. When I press the Info button I used to get a list of traffic reports but they are no longer there. Maps and software are up to date and I have tried everything to get the reports back. The Dynamic re routing function is not working as proved recently when it failed to re direct me due to a bad accident on the M6. As Skoda are part of the VW group this seems to be a common problem.

In that case that is why I thought it was INRIX ITIS all along and was surprised when Trafficmaster was mentioned.

Hopefully the VW group rollout config patch for the sd cards as this does almost smack of VW group playing an obsolescence card and not supporting TMC and instead plug their net subscription services.

as long as we, the users, don't get stung with a bill for their short-sightedness

Busy morning for me !!!

I can now confirm that INRIX are the current provider for RDS TM in the UK.

Their engineers have check the system and advise of no issues there end.

I'll continue to pursue the matter.

Here are a couple of screenshots of excerpts from my email replies form INRIX......

I think we all know the likelihood of that happening !
