Update to Version 1969

Featured Replies

Thanks  @Gerrycanand @Novascape. Yes, it’s booked in for a look on 25th. The 1941 update was OTA and working fine until the tyre pressure reset. Might have been coincidence but it was immediately after, as soon as I started the car. I can’t even run a reset now as the screen appears to be dead.

Have you tried removing any fuses? Nearly 2 weeks to see a dealer is a long time to be without your infotainment screen. I know in the past some people have had success with removing fuses for a few minutes and then replacing them. I can't remember which fuses people were removing, but I'm sure a search of the forum would point you in the right direction.

I did disconnect the battery for a bit, but it didn’t make any difference. Presumed that was an easy way of doing it vs getting to the fuse.

Reading the recent post I just don't understand why some people aren't getting updated. What is the problem? Surely the update system should be better than this?

I’m not convinced the early Mk IV Octavia infotainment has the ability to apply such a large update to itself. It may not have enough local storage to download the 10gb compressed files and then extract them internally and apply them. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve not seen anyone on here with an early car reporting that their infotainment has upgraded OTA from 1941 to 1969.

I’ve deliberately left my system at 1941 to see if it will update OTA, and so far there has been nothing apart from a couple of minor app updates.

If the early units DO have the ability to perform that size of update OTA, it may be Skoda that are not releasing it. Given the number of software issues with the early cars over the past 3 years, Skoda may be concerned about creating more. Given many early cars are now coming out of warranty, perhaps there is a concern of “what happens” if an infotainment unit bricks itself performing a large OTA update. I think it would give rise to an interesting discussion at a dealer as to who pays to rectify it.

I actually haven’t heard of anyone getting the 1969 update OTA whether it’s an older or newer Octavia.  I assume Skoda only push the update to a certain number of vehicles at a time so it literally could take many months before it is even made available to a specific vehicle.  Not sure what the protocol is if the vehicle / user refuse the update when it is made available for download.

Well it hasn't appeared on my system yet. I have it on a usb stick should I want to go ahead with the update.

Not in a hurry to have it, my system is working well with the odd little glitch but they don't happen often so not worried about it.

But as I'm thinking about changing the car in the next year or so due to costs, I'm not fussed.

I haven't had a notification about it yet either. Surely there aren't that many Octavia's out there waiting for it? They should be able to do them all in a month, tops?

I’ve not seen any reason for updating yet. There are no additional features? Is that right? I’ve not had a single issue since updating to 1941.

It's an update. It will have improvements that may not be that obvious but it's still an update.

I have updated to 1969 but I fully understand holding off if 1941 is working perfectly well for you.  There are no discernible differences and, for me,!it’s equally fast and responsive as 1941.  Whilst  there will be “under the bonnet” changes if 1941 is stable and you have no issues the adage of “if it ain’t broken….” is  certainly relevant.  It’s not like it’s an iOS or Android update that brings new functionality.

I'm around the same versions as yourself at the moment, is it worth pressing the dealer for an update, I haven't had the car long enough to have seen any issues yet.

So this morning I surprisingly got a message telling me there's an update available, it was OAA2 so only about 190Mb, and that had rolled out a long time ago anyway. I had read somewhere that the above hardware/software combination couldn't receive OTA so when I saw the update roll in I was thinking I may even be able to cancel the dealer appointment (who quite possibly wouldn't update anyway).

When I went back to the car later I got the message saying the update was competed, but all the software versions remain as they were in the screenshot above from a few weeks ago.

Should the update have moved things on even a little, or is it prep for another bigger update?

I've had a few updates this year that have been delivered OTA. They are mostly updates to apps, and fairly insignificant. In the description text I have noticed recently on these updates they do now explicitly state that the version number of the infotainment will not change. So for these smaller updates, it's expected. As for it being prep for the bigger update, I somehow doubt it - even though it would be good if it was.

Cheers, yeah, I was looking for a glimmer of hope, particularly since it's an older update and even in the update overview it said the update was available for download until 31st of December, 2023 which had me wondering will the bigger updates eventually roll out to what I currently have.

Hello, my car is in version 1803 I would like to upgrade it to 1941 first. Is it risky to do it yourself? I don't have a battery charger, can I leave the engine running?
Do you have the files for the update?
Thank you so much ;-)

Based on what I've read on forum. Version 1803 will probably require other software updates that will need to be done by dealer before you can go to 1941.

That's correct. If you have a very low software revision number like 1803 then you'll need to visit a dealer first, so they can do it and possibly replace a component, before they can upgrade the system firmware to higher revisions and then upto 1941 & subsequently 1969 or newer if a newer revision exists.

So apparently I need a new MIB control module, which they can’t get for a month 😞

I've just noticed mine is on 1940 rather than 1941. Is there much difference between those?

I believe 1940 is the factory version of 1941. But nothing major if whats been said on here is correct.

Hello,

I have version 1940. Do you know what changes are in 1960 ? Is it worth the update ? I could not find anything clear..

Never heard of 1960 other than the year.

If anyone else has any information on 1960 it would be greatly appreciated.

Probably means 1969

I'd be interested in what that has to offer too over 1941.

Sorry, my mistake. I was asking for difference between 1940 and 1969, but i typed by mistake 1960.

Does anybody know the differences/changelog/version history ?

Thank you.
