Brake wobble - curious situation
Just to close the loop on this. I changed front discs and pads and gave everything a really good clean and lube up and it’s been over 200 miles on the new brakes and everything is silky smooth.

Another Misfire Topic
Haven’t done an awful lot with it, but getting ready to sell it and don’t want to offload it to some poor bugger and get my windows put through! Had it’s timing checked, two full tanks of premium fuel through which seemed to tone it down a bit, but it’s come back again even with premium fuel. Full set of spark plugs, new coil packs, full service and new PCV breather. Going back into the garage in a few weeks for a vacuum check. Sorry for delayed reply, 12 hour night shifts.

OTA of System Update not working - TPI?
Sorry to dig this up again after such a long time but I'm desperately trying to navigate the absolute mess that is this infotainment system. I haven't managed to get either Skoda Connect or OTA updates working in my car, about to give it another try. I'm also from Sweden and I even contacted my local Skoda workshop for help updating the firmware because I decided it wasn't worth the risk of trying it myself, to which their response was "we don't do that". My car is a 2020 so I'm guessing it's very possible that it also needs a OCU update but it's not anything that I've been made aware of. Can I even verify what version of it I have through the software? Skoda seems toi have redesigned their website since this thread started so I can't clearly see whether my car is even eligible for OTA updates and the manual is frankly useless as it only links to their website. I really like the car but I'm very disappointed in the support from Skoda.

Which Octavia Scout would you choose?
To be honest, I don't know. I think I'll end up chasing the ex NHS car just because it is newer. I like the 60 plate one but it's older than the car I'm selling. And it's much closer to home.

SOH battery certificate
Some advice please, I’m due to collect a very low mileage 6 month old Enyak from a main dealer this week, should I be asking for sight of a SOH for the battery?

Oil consumption ?
9 weeks and 11500 miles in, just had to put 1ltr of (expensive!) oil in to bring the level back up (1.5 hybrid) mostly motorway miles and always allowed to warm up from new, anyone else needed to top up ? Not had to do it on any of the other new cars i’ve had over the last few years.

How do I save the settings?
All new cars are the same now, some are easier to turn off, but all will reset every time the car is turned on again.

the truth about electric cars
Sounds like the Renault battery fire suppression, fire fighting is being adopted for other marques of EVs and will be used in Li NMC, LFP and presunably Sodium batteries as they start to become more common. Each iteration of battery chemistry is less prone to thermal runaway as well as being cheaper. Still think inboard fire system might be better to nip in bud. https://www.renault.co.uk/safety/firefighter-technologies.html

Thinking about an Elroq, but...
An Air-source heat pump in an EV is around 2 to 3 times more efficient than a standard A/C unit, resulting in lower battery drain.

I’d imagine the original cards were back in. I meant why those two cars specifically?

the truth about electric cars
It seems that lithium-ion batteries could all have been designed in such a way that aggravates possible thermal runaway situations. According to a new scientific research document that Barrie Crampton has knowledge of, which shows that encasing them in sealed compartments is the worst thing that can happen to them. It is not open flames or glowing red-hot metal that cause adjacent cells to enter a runaway, but super-hot gases; it also shows that liquid immersion also increases the temperature and intensity of the resultant fire by a factor of 21 times. The report suggests that if heat, etc. is allowed to escape to the open air, then thermal runaways could be reduced. I do wish that he would provide links to this study, not just him but other YouTubers as well. If this report is correct, then it is a step in the right direction.

Reverse Camera Fitting Guide for mk4?
Is there an installation guide for retrofitting a reverse camera to an Octavia mk4? I have bought one from Aliexpress (https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004766200629.html) but I'm afraid to break things.

Hello from the Netherlands
Last month I bought my second Octavia. I had a black mk3 hatch 1.0 TSI manual, my new one is a mk4 hatch, it's a 1.5 TSI (150 HP), DSG, from the last day of 2023, in Lava Blue. So far I'm loving it!

Skoda UK Customer Support are useless!
I put an order in for a new Honda Civic e:HEV this morning, will arrive at the dealer first week of September. If anyone is looking for a mk4 Superb 2.0TDi L&K 4x4 with only 4600miles on the clock in Pebble Silver then keep an eye on the Vertu used car pages next month. It has a bit of kerb rash on one of the alloys but the dealer said they will repair that before it’s sold, other than that it’s in very good condition. It has the HUD option and a space saver spare wheel.

VRS Mk1 crankcase ventilation system
I know this is going off-topic, but it's all related, right? An update on my progess with deletes/ OCC install/oil leak. We got a new sump fitted, no drama there except one rusted bolt which nearly wrecked the whole mission. Changing a sump cos of a bad bolt nearly scuppered by another bad bolt; old cars, eh? Seems liuke my oil leak has slowed a lot; thats what started me on this merry go round of 'improvements'. It's a lot less spotty on my cardboard drip-tray, that's for sure. So started my deletes/catchcan operation- slow progress, already hit some snags. can't get the allen bolts which hold the air pump cradle to the engine; I'm still on the first one! Just won't budge, and access is hopeless. I'm considering just leaving it in place, having removing the air pipes and put a resistor on the connector. Half thinking of angle grinding it off but that's asking for trouble, there's gotta be fuel lines close by.. Hoping for better progress tomorrow. At least I'll be upright rather than stuggling in a gravel road

Replace 7 pin trailer connector with 13 pin (Fabia I combi 6Y5)
Connector replaced and tests done. Wiring for tail-, turn-, brake lights and ground was straight forward. The switch in the connector and the extra wire was used to disable the rear fog lights on the car when a trailer is connected. I could not identify that the wire was used for anything else and the car have no rear parking sensor. Somewhat confusing and took some time to figure out, was that the original wiring in the car do only include wiring to the left rear fog light. But the trailer connector wiring which plugs in between the original wiring at each rear light did connect both rear fog lights. Thanks again Alasdair

Check your sills! Paint advice
My red one was doing this, perhaps not quite as badly but in winter I try to pressure wash in the arches fairly often. I sanded it back with a dremel, applied copious amounts of rust converter, primer, then rattle canned it with alleged Flamenco Red (which most of the car still is). Was a place in Co. Tyrone (I think) that sold me the paints and they're a bloody good match.

Thinking about an Elroq, but...
How is the cooling more efficient? Given that standard AC is a heat pump. The difference for heating is real. The heat pump option adds heating, by giving the system the ability to pump heat in both directions. EDIT: to add, or previous EV had a heatpump (ie bidirectional heat pump) and we chose not to bother on our Elroq. We do have air source heatpumps at home (ie bi directional AC units that can heat as well as cool), so understand the technology.

strange icon
The only time I get that symbol on the dash is when I engage sport mode. The two green ‘arcs’ move towards the rear of the car image as I accelerate so I’ve always assumed it’s some kind of half-baked G meter (or whatever they’re called). Either way I find it completely pointless.

Broken Key
Just in case anyone is interested. I took my key to my local Timpsoms, they wanted £220. Went to a local locksmiths, who put me in touch with a local auto tech place, where they cut a new key, provided a new case with my “inners” inside it, for £50. So quite happy with that.

I’ll be heading north, and should be on the A34, just shy of the M40. Hoping for a convenient lay-by… … either that or right on the junction 🙄
